ACHP Cigar News & Reviews | CHPOD 610

Episode Summary
Episode 610 of A Cigar Hustler's Podcast opens with hosts Mike Beady, Mike Stepankevich and engineer Phil McGuffey working through listener comments — including a listener who wants them to "stick to cigars," plus ongoing jokes about Phil's shaky U.S. geography and the charity mask auction going live (with the Buy It Now button disappearing the moment a bid is placed). The crew smokes SBC26, which is now shipping and hitting retailers.
The non-cigar segment covers Tiger Woods' five-year license suspension after pleading no contest to reckless driving and refusing a lawful test — with the original DUI charge dropped because toxicologists couldn't prove impairment, reportedly due to a built-up tolerance to prescribed pain medication. The guys debate whether the punishment fits the crime (and whether a multimillionaire should just hire a driver), detour into John Daly, cover a Lake County mother-daughter domestic violence case, and dig into the USS Abraham Lincoln arriving in Thailand covered in rust after a 286-day deployment — a conversation about leadership, morale and the Navy's endless war with corrosion.
The cigar news block is the meat of the episode: Drew Estate's Early Access announcements, including the DE30 Box-Pressed Feral Pig Sampler ($49, with box-pressed Feral Flying Pigs from Herrera Estelí Brazilian Maduro, Undercrown Maduro and Liga Privada No. 9) and the DE30 Supreme Sampler ($39, featuring Liga Privada No. 9, Herrera Estelí Habano and Nica Rustica Adobe in 6x54 figurados). Both are limited, arrive at retailers in late September, and won't be sold in California because the new vitolas aren't registered on the state's Unflavored Tobacco List — which sparks a lengthy rant about how the UTL actually works. Also covered: the event-only Liga Privada Único Serie Tres Serpientes ($160 for a coffin of three twisted cigars), the DE30 consumer rewards app and its points structure, and Sinistro's Halloween-themed Last Cowboy Ghoul with candela "drip" accents.
The show turns somber to mark the passing of Lars Tetens, a pioneer of "conditioned" (he refused to say infused or flavored) handmade cigars dating back to the early 1980s, whose brand was later acquired by Alec Bradley founder Alan Rubin. The episode closes with a Terence Riley Neptune Cigars video bit about JFR value cigars, and a round of "What's the Score?" on halfwheel's Patrick Lagreid review of the Aladino 250th — a $15, 6x52 Honduran with peanut, toasted bread and graham cracker retrohale notes that both hosts guessed high on before the 87 was revealed.

How do you think we got where we are? Because we always talk about it. You got to be careful sometimes what you say to Palmer because he may take it wrong. I know, I see that.
Yeah. He got the green light. As soon as you said that, the green light was in his head. " On today's show, Tiger Woods needs a new driver.
Of course he does. Yeah, he does. To play on words there. Yeah.
E. Has A New Program, A New Cigar, And We Say Goodbye To A Legend. And then we have a Thursday, What's The Score? But first, Mikey, What Are The People Saying In The Lounge?
-Oh, I can't wait. -I'm not saying that. -Oh, my God. -I don't know.
I think there was an issue with it, too. -What did I do? -Yeah, it jumped to 555 for some reason. -Oh.
-So, I don't know what that's about. -Claudé, can you fix the episode number? -Claudé. -Well, on episode 284 on Spotify, somebody commented, Somebody commented, it said, "Who asked for your guys' opinions on politics?
" Episode 284? Yeah, the guy's just listening. " Is it John McTavish? No, I didn't recognize your name.
Just stick to cigars. Like, somebody went all the way deep into that? Well, they must be watching from the beginning or picked an old episode or something. It must have been something where we talked politics as a trending topic for the day.
Oh. " Maybe it's the other guy from Canada. And I just really think, what's our opinion on politics? I don't know, 284, that's a long time ago.
My stance has been pretty much the same. Right, but he doesn't want to hear it, we should just talk about cigars. Nobody tunes in to hear our opinions. Thank you for listening.
That's what I said. 400 more, you're all caught up. " Damn, no one told me that idea. We should be able to add pictures to our comments.
Also, I'm working on my Christmas gifts list. Geography for Dummies for Phil. Yes, I'm getting a gift. He's just happy somebody's sending him something.
Can we fix it where they can add photos? I'm sure I can do that. I mean, when he's fixing the numbers, he can add that. " Oh, I misunderstood the comment.
That makes more sense. " See, the people want one. At Guns, Gear and Smokes says, "Nelson from Zykar was an amazing dude. Always liked seeing that guy in the shop.
" Yeah, careful. We're running out of... " There you go. Way to summarize it.
That's perfect. SciCar is not the same. It's true. " They must have used a different set of textbooks.
Love you, Phil, but damn, brother, T-Money, you were right. Aww. They're ganging up my old Phil. Guys, this is just a character, okay?
@MarkPalmer says... No, that's the funny part, it's not just a character. Yeah, I'm just, I'm just playing. Right, but you're not.
Sorry, please continue. @MarkPalmer says, LOL, of course you believe our press, right? I don't believe any of them, including the Cigar Guys, Cigar Media, not the Cigar Guys. Yeah, those Cigar Guys, specifically the Cigar Guys.
I actually like the Cigar Guys. Yeah, we like those guys. I actually like everybody, but not everybody likes me. I like you, Mike.
Thanks. Me too. Or Phil does. I got that going for me, right.
Congratulations. At Lance Frazier 4748 says: Good time, lots of laughs, when's the mask going up for bid? Yes. The mask will be up for bid today.
Oh, yes. Just so you know. And listen, I'm removing the sniper. Okay, so you can either hit the buy it now button, but as soon as the bid happens, the buy it now button goes away.
Huh? There's a Buy It Now button on the auction. Right. You said you're taking that away.
As soon as somebody places a bid on it, the Buy It Now button disappears. Gotcha. As soon as the first bid for the mask goes up. Correct.
So if you want to buy it now, you've got to hit it before anybody makes a bid. Correct. Okay, I understand. I'm following that.
I don't care if it sells for less than the Buy It Now button. Right. But I don't like, I felt like, you know, it's got to be fair. Oh, yeah.
First to the race makes the pace. It actually makes sense. Does it? Yeah.
OK. It actually makes sense. Palmer, you know what? Weirdly, but I don't know how, but it seems to make sense.
I'm with you, Phil. Thanks. S. soil.
" We don't count that one. Why? S. back then.
Really? It was the colonies. Really? They called it the Colonies.
Really? Yes. I'm going with that. 1776?
Yeah. And this is 1812, last time I checked? Was it the War of 1812? Was that what the War of 1812 was?
I always wondered, is that when they burned the White House? So wait a second. That was when the Hessians fought the whatevers and wiped each other out. " And you just kind of stepped into that?
Well, that's the way I do it. Okay. I'm so glad the lights changed here. Don't worry, it'll change back.
It's a long show. Let me see. I'm doing a story on DePaul today. Oh, nice.
DePaul, Minnesota. Yeah. Where the floods are. The bible belt.
It's horrible. Right, the bible belt. Yeah. If you, first of all, like, and subscribe, we're reviewing-- Is that it?
What? Is that it? That's it? Yeah.
Oh, I had nine this morning. Yeah. I just ran a bunch of them off. Okay.
What did I miss? No, I think there's some on shorts. We don't do the shorts on the shorts. Yeah.

Ruggers and Jim. Mickey's mom. So yeah, check that out. Your mom looks so nice in that.
We could use this fork. We have to give Greg money. We have to cut him in, I guess. com, Us Cigar Housers podcast.
Oh, it's going to be good next week. Yeah, where we say the best things. It probably is going to be really good. Really good next week.
I mean, this one was pretty good, man. Yes, but next week's gonna be better. Yeah. It always gets better.
Especially as things build over the weekend. Oh my god. I just wanna get past this. There is no past this, Mike.
Apparently not. There's not. Apparently not. So, yeah.
Well, you could get past it if you're smoking this delicious cigar. Ooh. Ooh. Oh.
Oh, look what we're all smoking. Oh. Bam. Oh, bam!
SBC26 is shipping, is hitting retailers. Yes! Very excited about that. They got them at Cigarbox Las Vegas yesterday.
Oh, did they? We had a 30-minute conversation on this cigar. He really liked it. It's a great cigar.
It's a great cigar. James Spence Poke, you owe me a Coke? Oh, what? What?
I don't want to give you a Coke. I don't want to give you a Coke. It's over there in the fridge. There's a Mexican one.
I think I covered everything. Well about everything. Oh, Palmer, you stop it. He said we're gonna talk about it.
No, that's not what he said. Oh, it's not what you said. No, that's why I said you gotta be careful what you tell this guy. Yeah, you gotta be careful what you sell over here because...
No, we can't talk about anything until it's confirmed. Oh. We're gonna talk about it eventually. And then we should talk about it on the Patreon.
We'll see. We'll see. We should bring Greg down. Oh.
I feel so bad for him right now, man. - Sucks. - Alright. - Let's go.
- Alright, Tiger's latest problem. He had his license has been every five years. - Yeah, he pled guilty. - He pled no contest to reduce charges of reckless driving and refusing a lawful test.
- Oh, okay. - And then he has to pay $1,500 in fines, which was probably in his pocket. It's not really a substantial fine for him. - Slapped it down like trick daddy.
- I mean, five years is a long time. Yeah, but it's not like you can't afford a driver. You know, five years, we're going to be like 30 episodes past David Garofalo in two minutes. Oh, that's right.
The original DUI charge was dropped because prosecutors couldn't prove impairment. And he still got penalized for five years? Yes. Two toxicologists concluded there wasn't enough evidence, partly because Woods had developed a tolerance to legally prescribed pain medication.
Oh, wow. Following numerous surgeries. Oh, so he's a drug addict. Alleged.
Alleged. I'm sorry. Jeez. Come on, we're in enough trouble.
Alleged. The case began with a March rollover crash near his Jupiter Island Home Woods SUV, clipped another vehicle, and rolled onto its side. Deputies found hydrocodone pills in his pocket, but his breathalyzer showed no alcohol, and nobody was injured. I found my back pain.
My back hurt. The judge gave Tiger a very direct warning. There are no hardship exceptions allowing him to drive during the suspension. If Woods gets behind the wheel for any reason, the judge said he could immediately go to jail.
Drive a car, do not pass a goal, go right to jail. Okay. For five years. They're training this guy like Charlie Sheen.
Does that include, do you think, golf carts? Ooh. It's not, no, you don't have to have a license to drive one of those. I wouldn't risk it.
They don't drive golf carts. I don't want to go to jail. Can you imagine? " Okay, three guys run out of the crowd, handcuff him and take him off.
I love how Palmer doesn't watch sports. It's like Smokey the Bandit. Yeah. No, I don't watch sports.
They don't, they don't allow golf carts in those. Well, maybe he's driving it like in the background. He's not driving it from hole to hole. You know, you know, there's another, there's another golfer like this.
They can't drive? Yeah. Well, there was a point. A point where he couldn't drive?
Yeah. I'm confused. John Daly. Oh, I like him.
He's the guy that looks like me with the loud pants. Right, everybody likes John Daly. He couldn't drive? Yeah, that dude is a raging alcoholic.
Oh, even I know that and I don't watch golf. So he got a DUI? Yeah, well, yeah. He opens a beer before he hits the first ball at a tournament.
Yeah, hey, hold this. He drives under the influence? Well, he's drunk by the end of the day, what else is he gonna do? Alright, I'll see you guys at home.
See you guys later. Have somebody drive him home? I mean, if you're a millionaire, I don't understand why you don't have a driver. Well, everybody doesn't dream to have a driver like you.
Some people like that because that is like their last savior to being a normal person. Not having a driver? Being able to drive yourself. You know what?
Sounds ridiculous. Now Palmer's reflecting. Why? I can drive, I can drive.
Well, yeah, but it's getting to that time. Yeah, asshole. The kids are gonna take my car? Yeah.
Oh, I like my new car. Gone. Was this accountability or celebrity justice? Do you think maybe they said there was no proof because he's Tiger Woods?
No, I think that there was no proof. So saying that he has a high tolerance for painkills, you think is legit? Probably. Taking so many, I don't even feel them anymore.
Yeah, probably. I think that that's fair. Is that fair? Well, you said they didn't have a toxicology though, 'cause he didn't- They didn't have a breathalyzer.
Right, and the toxicology report didn't show him. It was inconclusive. Right. Right, so how do they say that?
That it's inconclusive? No, that he had a high pain tolerance. Oh, they're saying that's probably why there wasn't any found- They're saying the reason behind it, yeah. Yeah.
Like, he's got a pocket full of hydrochordone, but we couldn't find it in the system because now when he takes it, it's like Tic Tacs. Yeah. I don't know, it's America, but I don't think I'm allowed to have an opinion. I don't think I'm allowed to have an opinion anymore, so I'm not allowed to say how I feel about anything, even though that's the country we're in.
Right. We're not in that country. Apparently not. Apparently I'm not.
Maybe it's like the 13 colonies. Yeah. Would it be funny if they, if whatever happened that comes out and it was something he said over there? You know the guy in the mask?
Yeah, in the mask. You'd believe what he said? Well, that would be funny. You can blame it on me, I already told them.
Well, just tell that he's been removed. I'm not that guy. I know, I know. I'm not that guy that would ever, ever pass the buck.
I get it. Not happening. We're a team. The draw on this is so nice.
It is a great draw. It is. What a great cigar. Just enough resistance to where you're not gonna suck it down your throat.
Yeah. It was, you know, it was the additional freezer blast is what really-- Is that what it was? Yeah, that's what it was. New technique we're using.
US freezing. US freezing. US freezing. Very expensive.
Top dollar. So, what do I think? I think that five years of no driving with inconclusive data seems like a bit of a stretch. Even with his history of problems with driving and drinking?
I'm going to say two things here. Yeah? Number one is I think it's a bit of a stretch. I don't think that, I think that the punishment does not match the crime, and then I'm also gonna say, he should have a fuckin' driver, he should have had a driver, this entire time, like, this is ridiculous.
But he likes Buicks. I don't care. So he likes the driver? I don't care, get the Enclave or something, just sit in the back, you know?
That's odd, because the other day, the butt sniffer, you wanted him executed. I did, but then we- A reoccurring butt sniffer. But then we talked about speeding, and I said, take away the license. Right, so he's got driving problems, they've taken away his license.
Well, he doesn't have speeding tickets. No, he has drinking tickets. No, he didn't even get one of those. Not this time, but he still crashed his car.
But that's what I'm saying. Well, first of all, guys, the other court cases was never about DUIs. It was about the stuff with his wife. Didn't he roll over another car?
He crashed into a sign. Into the HOA sign. See what I'm saying? There's not enough there, in my opinion.
Well, they could have taken it forever. I mean, you're not wrong. They could have. He looks terrible.
Do you see the photos of him? He's probably stressed out of his mind. He's losing his hair and everything. Yeah, he's got to go back to golfing.
He should just shave it. I don't think he can go back. And it's like in splotches. It's not even like in the middle or anything.
Yeah, at that point, I think he's just got to let it go. You know what I mean? He can still play golf, doesn't he, because his back hurts so bad? I thought he did play golf.
Yeah, he plays sometimes, but not in all the tournaments, because he does have injuries. Oh. Is it from golf, or from car accidents? I don't know exactly, but it is a back injury, you're correct about that.
Right. Which I would imagine is a golf thing, because of how you swing? Yeah, a twist. Yeah.
Chubby checker. What's that noise? Dog upstairs. Sounds like a dog.
They have a dog at the smoke place. Okay, so yeah, I mean, like, eh? Like, if you're looking at what you're saying to me, it sounds like the punishment's a little excessive, because it couldn't really prove anything, he just crashed his car, no one got hurt, other than him, right? Well, he hit another car, but nobody was hurt.
Okay. And, like, realistically, he should probably have a driver anyways. He should probably have a driver. Yeah.
And then if he wants his own peace and quiet, that's what you give him the money for. Like, I don't want to talk to you. Oh yeah, he didn't have to talk to the director. You can get a car with the window that goes up.
Yeah, exactly. I'm just gonna sit in the back and drink and take my pills. Don't talk to me. Yeah, if that's what he wants to do.
Well, now he can. Right, without any issues. " This would have been a great idea. Right.
Cold Plunge is good for pain too, just for the record. In case you're watching, Cold Plunge. Super cold. I hear he's a big fan of the show.
Is he? We used to be. I didn't realize how big of a reach we had. Oh, certainly, yes.
Apparently a lot bigger than we thought. Apparently, yeah. Yeah, we're like household names. In some households.
Yeah, I guess so. But they're not saying good things. Oh, but they heard of us. That's what counts!
Yeah. Okay. You know, you're the worst pirate I've ever heard of, so you have heard of me. I know, I know, I know.
You guys are the worst podcast I've ever seen. Here we are. Oh, so you have seen this show? Here we are.
And here we are. We're definitely not the worst. That's what you ask at this point. Not by a long shot.
Yeah, we're definitely the best. We're the best. Not by a long shot. The most known.
Think of the PCA when we walk around, they're going to applaud this year, next year? No. Do you know, it's like six months away, it's early March next year. Is it?
It's like the first week of March. That's exciting. Yeah, it's like we were just there. And I'm already dreading it now, thank you so much.
I hate, I hate going to Vegas. Oh, I like it much better than New Orleans, and I hate it. Oh, New Orleans is so much more convenient. Well, yes, okay, because we can drive.
I'll take the convenience. We can drive to Vegas. I don't want to drive to Vegas. I'm flying to Vegas.
I hate it. And then when I get back, I'm a train wreck for like 48 hours. Well, we don't want you to drive though. No?
No. If you need a driver, I'll drive. Remember, you shouldn't be driving. Like this Tiger Woods thing, you should reflect on this.
I would love to not drive. I hate driving. I'll drive for you. Perfect.
He can't call. Hey. Oh, yeah, that's right. You be quiet over there, Paul.
Oh, you're talking about PCA? Yeah, you're-- Paul drives. Yeah, you're like the vampire that's-- I've rescinded my invitation. Wow.
You gotta fly out through the door. I'm getting banned by the guys that are banned. That's right. That's right.
How bad is that? Yeah. I don't know if that happens. That would be funny.
Yeah. Oh, why would they do that? I don't know. Why would they do anything?
That's a huge mistake. Yeah. Alright, she said, she said, a family argument turned dangerously violent in Lake County the other day. Ugh.
m. Tuesday after a fight between a 27-year-old woman and her mother reportedly escalated from household objects to broken glass. So, the police showed up, the mother said, or the daughter said that the mother threw a lamp at her, and see, what were the two things here? " She threw the lamp in the jar at me, I only threw the fan, and then she stabbed me with part of the glass jar that broke out.
" She fell down and rolled in the glass, that's how she got caught. Oh, she fell. She fell down, after I hit her with the lamp. So the mom got arrested and the daughter did it?
Her mother alleged Stafford started the attack and later stabbed her with a shard of the broken glass. The mother suffered the most serious injuries, so they arrested the daughter. Oh, but the mom admitted to everything and the daughter didn't admit to anything. So whoever had the most, the, whosoever's the most injured is the victim?
Well, the mother, the daughter says the mother started it. The mother says the daughter started it. Yeah. The mother says the daughter stabbed her.
The daughter says the mother fell down and rolled in the glass and that's how she cut herself. Right. So we're just, we're going with least damaged as the victor and we're going to, they're going to, they win the police ride. She was transported, the mother was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center for Treatment.
Ooh, it's local. Yeah, it was, yeah, it's at Lake County. Lake County. Oh.
Physical evidence helped deputies identify Stafford as a primary aggressor, which is a daughter. Stafford reportedly had only a small cut on her pinky and a piece of glass in her hair. She was arrested after being released from the Southlake Hospital. Stafford now faces a felony domestic violence charge, and she was charged with aggravated battery, given a $5,000 bond in order to have no contact with her mother.
You two cannot play together anymore. You know, getting back to that comment that guy said, we never just cover cigars, ever. Right. He's obviously probably a random listener or something.
Like, who wants to talk about just cigars? That's boring. Right. The show would be 30 minutes long.
Yeah. Well, I think we used to only talk about cigars in the beginning. Maybe. Then we started covering our day, started talking about that.
But there's only so many times you cut the grass. - And only so many times you can coach football. - So many things I can coach. - Right, and I don't cut grass anymore, so now what do I talk about?
- So now we can't even talk about that. - Right. - Yeah, I mean, we've got other things to talk about. - Right, exactly.
- Oh boy. Okay, so yeah, all right, whatever people, okay, domestic violence. - It was a fun Lake County story, she said, she said. - That's nice.
- All right, the USS Abraham Lincoln has made it to thailand yeah i talked about yeah we talked about yesterday but now it is there yeah and they're finding out that it's covered in rust yeah they haven't been keeping it clean it was at war i understand that well they yeah during um but i didn't think they're on deployment they keep it clean i didn't think aircraft carriers would rust apparently they do it looks terrible it looks like an old boat now okay i mean like it was a it was a sea Yeah, but they can still keep it clean. Oh, maybe they didn't want to. They lower them over the side, and they sand off the rust, and then they repaint it with five coats of paint. Correct.
He doesn't know. He was never on a boat. No, I didn't. Okay.
I don't know, man. Like... I don't know. We're asking a lot here, I think.
I mean, they were out there for a long time. That's hard. Two hundred and something days. You know?
Why can't they keep it clean? I don't know, so the boat's a little messed up. I guess they were a lot messed up. I'm just taking, you know what, I'm just taking the L on it, I guess.
Like, alright, let's get back to the docks, let's go, everybody go blow their wad in Thailand and go clean up the boat. Well, they've got to go back to America to clean the boat. There's no facilities in this small island in Thailand. Okay, so they didn't have the ability to clean the boat?
No, no, they have it on the boat. But it takes 30 days now for them to clean the boat because they've let it go so long. If they would have kept up with it as it just, you know, started rusting, it would have been a lot easier if it takes so long. Gotcha.
Yeah, now I'll go in the shipyard. Even the superstructure above the water line is rusted. So do we need to fire the captain then? I don't think they fire him.
Maybe like a walk the plank, draw a quarter, I don't know what they do. Walk the plank, what's draw a quarter? That's where they cut the arms and legs off. Oh, that's right, we just talked about that.
There's none of that on these ships. There's no walk the plank? No. Come on, there's walk the plank.
S. S. Abraham Lincoln looked rough after a historic deployment. The photo showed extensive rust and faded paint on the nearly 1,100 foot carrier arrived in Thailand after 286 days deployed.
Okay. 264 consecutive days at sea. That's a lot. That's a long time.
I don't know, like... It looked bad. We have a reputation. Okay, you know what, I hear you on that.
I totally agree. Right. Like, if it's something that can be done, it needs to be done. And like, like, I get that it was a long period of time, but now the more and more I think about it, it's like, you know, that's a top-down thing.
Like, that's poor leadership. Well, I didn't say whose fault it was, but yeah, it's not like it's the Ensign's problem because he didn't drop over the side with a sander. So like, so the top dog was probably pissed that they were there, and like, that trickles down. They just let it go.
Yeah, that just trickles down. How'd you know that rank bomber? How'd I know what? How'd you know Ensign?
I watch movies. What is Ensign? No, he said how did I know Ensign? Yeah, what is Ensign?
That's the low-level guy, it's like they're private. It's a butter bar. What's a butter bar? It's a 01, Ensign.
Okay, like you're not even helping me at this point, you're just throwing more things. Yeah, like they have like a little gold bar, a little one bar. And what is that, why is it on me while you're talking? Sorry, my fingers, you know, conversations we've had earlier, my fingers are a little crampy.
They're crampy because of the conversations? Yeah, just a little crampy. Yeah, just a little crampy. He was excited.
Yeah. Ensign's like the- No, I wasn't excited. Got it. The guy that swabs the deck.
Okay. Deck swab. No, he definitely doesn't. Okay, let's just move on from this.
He doesn't swab the deck? No, he doesn't swab the deck. Who cleans the deck? That'd be like the E1.
The E1? Yeah. Like the Ewok? The Siemens.
Like a little furry guy? Oh, Siemens, first class, Siemens, second class, like that. There's no first class or second class, but- Not the Ensign? Yeah.
Look, I was never in the Navy. I'm making this up as I go along. You're doing a great job. Thank you.
I knew the five coats of paint. Nobody gives me credit for that? There's a semen recruit, there's a semen apprentice, and there's a semen. That's a lot of semen.
Yeah. A lot of semen in the Navy. Yep. That's why he liked it so much.
In the Navy. Two coats of protective primer, and they finish it with two coats of Navy gray paint. So you think somebody's going to get in trouble for not taking care of the boat? Of course.
Of course they will. Especially when there's pictures online. Yeah. Oh, yeah.
Okay. That's on me. Thank you. Now it's on.
Now it is. Only the highest priority areas can be addressed when they're in Thailand. With the bow and forward hull expected to receive attention first. That's where they get the most water.
And the most abrasive, whatever it's called. Okay. Salt. Well, it is salt, yes.
At least it's not a glacier. The bigger story may be the military overstretched. The rush became a visible symbol of a deployment that reportedly included supply concerns, declining morale, and mental health issues among roughly 5,000 sailors and marines. You know what was interesting though, like I saw some clips from like people that, some soldiers that went off the boat.
Yeah. And you could tell that the way that they were trying to, like the way that they clipped it, I'm like oh you're trying to make it look bad. " And they're just kinda running, they were running off like it was sinking? " Like, that was the end of the conversation.
No, they didn't let them finish the thought. " Yeah, we were eating sea rations, or, you know, we ran out of crackers. " Were they jumping off the top of the boat, or were they jumping off the, like, where they store the airplane? I don't know.
Well, we said that they were jumping. People were very, very nasty on that. Apparently only one guy jumped off. It still says in this article, too.
Did he fall? No, he jumped. He did? Yeah.
I mean, it's kind of the same thing. Fall jump? Yeah. Well, jump is something you do on your own fall.
It could be an accident. Were they playing basketball and went to go football or something? I don't know. Do they have basketball on these boats?
Um, they, they do, they have like activities. I don't know if they have basketball. Like bingo? Oh, like on a cruise ship?
They have like bingo? No, it's definitely not like a cruise ship. Is there napkin folding? There's no dollar line or anything like that.
Is there an Aledo deck? Is it like an amphitheater? They're doing the merengue? Saturday they have a comedian come in?
They probably have a comedian. How would he get there? Is he stuck on a boat, too? Sometimes they fly people onto those.
I don't think they can fly to a war zone, though. I don't know, 50 Cent went to a war zone. That guy has a G. Well, it's 50 Cent.
Like one of the most dangerous places ever. I don't think Tom Sakura is going to fly into a war zone in the Middle East. You don't know that. Maybe now he's divorced.
Now he's divorced? I don't know. You guys said that about him. The process of...
Yeah. Yeah, so what does he have to live for now? I don't know. If we could just not...
He still has children. If we could just not, you know... Allegedly. No, he really has children.
No, oh, I didn't know that. Oh, I said he had children. You said allegedly. Like, no, he has kids.
Oh. Okay. Yes? On the bright side, the plane section was expertly maintained and in battle-ready condition at all times.
Really? Yeah. Oh, yeah, it's below the deck, so there's no salt water really. Well, there's rust up on the top part, too.
The top deck. The superstructure. Right. Hmm.
The pictures look like a boat like we found. Oh, we got this from Russia. Hey, look, we found this floating out at sea. Let's take it.
All right. Wow, it's amazing. You can launch a plane from here like anything. Check this out.
Is this from the Cold War? Right, exactly. Paint over that Russian symbol on the side, it'll be fine. I'm not even gonna ask you what the Russian symbol is, let's just move past this.
It's the red star. It's a hammer and sickle. A hammer and sickle, red star, it's all that stuff, maybe it's a Japanese Zero paint on the side. Wow.
Oh, maybe this is where, uh, what's his name's from? Maybe it's the one from, uh, Wrinkle in Time. What's the superhero? What's the Russian superhero?
Oh, I don't know, I have no idea. With the metal arm? Oh, he's not Russian. From Captain America's brother?
Winter Soldier? Yeah. He lives in Wakanda. Does he?
I just saw the movie over the weekend. Yeah. They go and pick him up. " Just hanging out here.
Look at his new arm they gave you. This is great. I feel like his name's like Bubsy or something. Bugsy.
Bubsy? Well, what's his name? I don't know. God.
Oh, now it's driving me crazy. Yeah. Yeah, you're close. You're so close.
Yeah, yeah. Blackie? It's Black, okay, erase that. It's Bucky, it's Bucky.
Bucky, Bucky. And I got there just in time. Bucky. Yeah, 'cause he was going down a bad rabbit hole.
Well, he always wears Black. He does. He does. I don't think that that would gel well, though, with Marvel, just for the record.
Disney? Blacky? No. Yeah.
I don't know. I was looking at B-words. Okay. Oh, my God.
Oh, my God. Okay. All right, let's go. All right, we're moving into cigars already.
Are we at 30 minutes? Yeah, of course. So yeah, time flies, we have good conversations here, it's fun, we make everybody laugh, we have a good time. Where we're crying inside, everybody's having a great time.
And meanwhile, we're crumbling over here. You know, they say the pressure's a privilege, I should be a fucking diamond by now, just for the record. Drew State Announces a Box Press Feral Flying Pig and Supreme Sampler. Sounds great.
Launching Customer Rewards Program 2. Oh. We have a big Drew State event. Yeah, that's nice.
Didn't they already have rewards? I thought they did, too. Yeah, I don't know what happened with that. They had an app.
It was going for a while, and then it just kind of . So, I'm guessing they've re-brr-brr-ed back in place. They're brr-brr-brr-brr. Right.
But during its Early Access show on Tuesday evening, which apparently we didn't watch, Drew Estate announced the upcoming release of a pair of new samplers and the launch of a new rewards program for consumers. Yes, we don't know what happened to the old one. The first sampler is a DE-30 box-pressed feral pig sampler, which contains three cigars and a box-pressed spin on the company 5 3/8 by 60 feral flying pig Vitola. Inside each pack are: Herrera, Esteli, Brazilian Maduro, Feral Flying Pig, Undercrown Maduro, Feral Flying Pig, Liga Privada, H99, Feral Pig Box, Flying Pig Box, they're all box pressed.
Pricing is set at: $45. Philip? Drew State, yeah, I'm gonna say $35. Ooh, you went the wrong way, $49.
Pretty good guess. Alright. It's like I understand things in this industry and I have opinions. Yeah, we're gonna miss you from it, so.
Yeah. Next is the D30 Supreme. Let's take my cubicle somewhere. You know, talk, what's that called?
Water jug talk or whatever. Oh, water cooler talk? Water cooler talk. Well, hey.
I heard the liquor industry's great. Is it? Yeah. Yeah, everybody from liquor comes here, so maybe we go there.
I wanna go join the Davinoff guy. Welcome to the Liquor Hustlers podcast. Who left? First of all, if I had a liquor store, I'd call it Liquor Box, just for the record.
Oh, that's a new podcast, Liquor Box, where we're all liquors. Just for the record. Instead of hustlers, we're liquors. So anyway, this new sampler is a 6x54 Figurado Vitola of three lines.
The Provada H99, the SLE Habano, and the Nica Rustica Adobe Supreme, which is a 6x54 Figurado Vitola. You got to edit that out. Yeah, you got to edit it out. About Drew Estate?
35 minutes. Yeah, just clip that for me. Oh. All right.
Pricing is set at? I don't know, dude. What do you want from me? Just pick a number.
Pick a number. $55. - Well, you went the right way, but you went too far. $39 per pack.
- Yeah, yeah, yeah, I just realized it was Nicarus because it should have been less. - Both samplers are expected to arrive at retailers in late September, and while production numbers have not been announced, both are limited productions, there are currently no plans to sell any of the six cigars on their own. Only the samplers. - Mmm.
- Additionally, the cigars won't be available in California because they're not being registered on the state's unflavored tobacco list, UTL. Really? It's a different Vitola, so even though the Nicarustica, let's say, is listed, they have to list it by Vitola. Yay.
But you said on the UTL? Yes. I thought it was just a flavored thing. No, that's...
No, you have to list it as the artist says it's not flavored. Dude, you've got to keep up with the rules. Sorry. The rules are we're controlling infused flavored cigars.
Right. And the way that we do that is by controlling all of the other cigars. So you have to report all of these things that are not flavor-infused in order to sell them so that the ones that are flavor-infused... Can be sold.
No, cannot be sold. You have to be on the list to be able to be sold. So, yeah. Instead of saying whoever's on the list can't be sold.
Correct. Because that wouldn't make as much money. Right. That's correct.
Because you know how easy it would be to just have that, like… Just a list of infused stuff. Here's the infused ones. Here, you can't sell any of these. Not merely a big moneymaker, you know?
A lot more that aren't. I mean, you know? Yeah. So, there's that.
Yeah. I'm with the government, I'm here to help. These are not on the list because they're not gonna pay to have this… Because it's a sampler. Right, it's a sampler.
Oh. So, like, why would we waste our time and money on that? This is six more cigars I'd have to list. Yeah.
But Deadwood is fine to be sold in California. Right, because it's not flavored. Because it's not flavored. Right.
So that means that you have to register it. Right, so it has to be registered. Correct. Oh, my God.
I'm with the government. I'm here to help. Right, exactly. Solid.
Additionally, the company will soon have a new event-only cigar The Liga Privada Unico Series Tres Serpentines. - Three serpents. - Tres? - Tres.
- Yeah, wow. - Three. - First, Liga Privada Cubalera. It uses an H99 Connecticut Corojo wrapper and the Liga Privada H99 binder and filler.
Three cigars that get twisted and tied together, measure six and a half by 43. They will be available at the Drew Estate in-store events beginning this month through December. We will have those here, as I understand it. - Yeah.
- Oh. - Or while supplies last. So, I'm eh, eh, maybe not, but... And you can buy a set of those for...
Over here. How much is the triple twisty dude? H99? - $65.
- $50. - $160, you went the wrong way for it. - Oh, my Lord. - There's three of them, Michael, come on.
A 160? There's three of them. They're twisted together and they're very long. Yeah.
There's three of them. I apologize for underestimating that. Pay attention. You seem to be a little off today.
I'm slightly off today. Sorry for my- I got whacked in the head one too many times today. Oh, a box of three. You get three of them.
So you get nine cigars. Yeah. Okay. Well, they put that after the price.
It's not my fault. Oh, so I was right. I was at 65 bucks. That's pretty close.
For one of them? Yeah. Almost $200. That's 60 a pull.
I guess. All right. But this was for the box of three. Oh.
A box of six. Of nine. You don't even know. Yeah.
Hold on. There's three cigars wrapped in together. Yes. Okay.
There's, you know, 50 states. Okay. And then you get three of those, so you get nine cigars. Okay.
Three coffins. Yeah. Three coffins. $160.
Yeah. All right. In addition to the new cigars, Drew Estate is launching its DE30. What's all the DE30 stuff?
Rewards program. Why are they picking 30? Is it a 30-year anniversary, or...? I mean, I would assume that that would make sense.
Yeah. Which will allow consumers to earn points for various activities and redeem them for a number of items, including some of the company's subculture studio. Rewards is a free program to participate in and will be based on app on your phone. So, it's back to a new app.
We've done that again. Yes. DE30 is about showing love back to the people who, oh, well, okay. Show love to us, said Jonathan Drew.
I won't do the voice, I won't do the voice. Okay. Jonathan Drew, San, that's right, okay, co-founder of Drew Estate in a press release, and trust me, we spared no detail in Subculture Studios to deliver on our brand promise for every one of you for the ones who choose the path less traveled. Customers will earn points for completing their profile, selecting their preferred retailer, purchasing Drew Estate products, and interacting with the company.
For instance, purchasing either of the two new samples will earn customers 250 points. - Wow. - Customers will receive five points for every dollar spent on qualifying Drew Estate cigar purchases by scanning or uploading receipts. Checking in at Drew Estate in-store event will earn a hundred points.
- Okay. - Making a purchase at Drew Estate store events will earn you 250 more points everywhere, no matter what you do. - So many points. - So many points.
- Interacting with the company on social media will earn more, a hundred points. - Oh, more points. - Consumers will also earn 250 points for each Drew Estate brand they purchase. The company will also have other activities, and there's tons of ways to earn it.
There's a lot of moving parts on this. A lot of points. A lot of points. Like, this is gonna be complicated.
Is this for a car, or...? You can get clothing, a backpack, an ashtray, hand-painted artwork from Subculture Studios, and other limited pieces created for the campaign, which the company will ship to consumers upon redemption. I wonder if they charge for shipping, or if they just ship it to you. They probably just ship it.
Maybe they use your points for shipping. No, they probably just ship it. " Oh, the program is currently slated to last for six months. It's a six month period.
Six month period, then it's done. Seems like a lot of work for six months. Well, they've tested it before. " I don't know, that's, you know, that's gonna be, I don't know how you get all that data within the six month period.
- Yeah, it ends May 29, 2027. - And there's a lot of things there, you know what I mean? Like, all of those different ways to get those points. - Right.
- Like, that's complicated. - Well, yeah. - Like, how does the system register all of these things? - I'm sure that they-- - You scan the receipt.
- They have tons of money. I'm sure that they'll figure it out. - They have a guy. - There's always a guy.
- I mean, I could be the guy. - Maybe they're using quad, you know? - Maybe they're using quad A. - For a substantial amount of money, I could be the guy.
- You're tainted now, nobody wants you. - Yeah, I'm dirty. You dirty. I have an opinion.
Right, nobody likes that. No, everybody likes, just I need to stop. Yeah. You're gonna get me in trouble.
I told you, you green-lined him. You gotta be careful. You're gonna get me in more trouble. I said nobody likes for you to have an opinion.
How is that bad? I don't know. Do you get a text message? I get all kinds of text messages.
Stop it, Palmer. What are you talking about? Stop talking. Is it Greg?
I get all kinds of text messages. I get all kinds of things. Greg's going to FaceTime me so I can watch you talk. I'm surprised he's not down here in the studio.
Palmer edited that! Greg's listening to his '80s Tears for Fears music in the car, having to cry right now. Driving around slow. Just one headline.
That's the '90s. Oh, sorry. He just got his, he popped the Alanis Morissette into his tape deck. Oh, his radio works in his car?
Oh, that car, I don't know. I've only been in that car once. Isn't it ironic? Don't you think?
All right, Sinestro's the last cowboy. You know, my mother was right. She should have just stopped at the one. He would have been way better off.
Boots and I wouldn't be having so much fun. Me and Phil. Sorry, Phil. Yeah, just Greg on the show with us?
Please, we never talk about anything. Right. Sinestro's the last cowboy ghoul. Greg is great on the show.
Yeah, but he asked us to fix a lot of things. He's very prima donna. Yeah. Is my light right?
I don't think my light's right. I don't think it's right. And he doesn't want to move it. We have to get up and move it.
Yeah, then he asks us questions like, why does the camera look like this? We don't know. We don't do the cameras. Why do I look fat on screen?
I don't know what to tell you. Stop eating. Yeah, wear a bigger shirt, Greg. Sorry.
Oh, so now we're just going to attack our own? No, I'm not attacking you. I'm just... You leave him alone.
Yeah, I like Greg. You leave him alone. I like Greg. He doesn't travel with me unless you poop in the hotel room.
You leave him alone. Yeah, but you have to walk out when he's in his undies. He's gonna be walking out. Nah.
We're past that now. Oh, nah, there's no underwear. No undies? No, no, he does travel with underwear to sleep in.
But he does sleep naked at home, apparently. Just wait till that happens. Like, do you have clothes on? " He goes, "Rogue?
" In the sex dungeon. Yeah, it's dark. No one's gonna see it. I love that we talk about all these things.
I think this was mentioned even on the previous show. And the only, like, the number one comment to talk about was the fact that Boots Phil has no idea where anything is in the United States. " That makes complete sense. Yeah, that's fine.
Let's talk about the Bible Belt. All right, so Nestro's got this cigar. Ghoul. Cowboy ghoul.
Last cowboy. It's a cowboy with a ghoul. It's got candela drips going down the side of the cigar. Oh, that's cool.
Kind of neat looking, yeah. Yeah. It's a Halloween tie-in. James is very nice.
Yeah. I love everybody. I love... I mean, there's one guy I don't like.
Let's be honest. But other than that, I love everybody. Right. So...
But... Yeah. Whatever. Maybe 5,000 of them, 10,000 cigars in total.
Okay. All right, now the sad news. Oh, yeah? Yeah.
Lars Teton passed away yesterday. Oh, no! Yes. Earlier today, which was yesterday, Lars Tietan, who is considered to be one of the pioneers of handmade cigars with an added flavor, passed away.
Multiple sources have confirmed Tietan's passing to Half Wheel while an official cause of death has not yet been disclosed. Oh, dude. He wasn't that old. No, huh?
People say that he has been battling heart issues and that he passed away peacefully. " However, as the boom cooled, he moved on to other ventures and his cigars became even harder to find. In 2019, Teton's returned to the premium cigar industry after Alan Rubin, the founder of Alec Bradley, acquired Teton's brand and became their exclusive distributor. Teaton would make an appearance at the 2019 IPCPR Convention and Trade Show as part of the Alec Bradley Booth, but would not return in subsequent years.
When Alec and Bradley was acquired by Scandinavian Tobacco in February 2023, the Teaton brands were not part of the deal, rather World 180, the company that Rubin and Teens created, was dissolved. In addition to his work as premium cigar industry, Teaton was a musician and artist and produced a line of leather goods, fragrances, CBD, and cooking spices. Hey, just for the record... He didn't die?
No, no. Oh. " Wow. " Oh, is that a thing?
That's a joke, dude. We have a video that we didn't stop for, so we can do it right now. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. I did.
I sent that video. Sorry. No, that's okay. My head's in the cloud a little bit.
Right, right. But yeah, man, that sucks for Lars, you know. Yeah, that's sad. He used to comment on my Facebook stuff.
Did he? Yeah. Oh, that's cool. I'm not, so I'm not familiar.
I heard what Palmer said, but it said, the first thing he said is something about with a little more taste with the cigar or something. Well, yeah, he did, well, they were infused. Okay, so he was... He was an infused guy.
Yeah, but he called them conditioned. Yeah. He refused to call them infused or flavored. Was he like a pioneer of...
And I believe, I believe, don't quote me, whatever, I believe that he worked with John. Like, John started with him. Oh, okay. Oh, to make the acid cigars.
Yeah, or at least he got the idea with him or something like that. Yeah, this reads that he was one of the pioneers of infused cider cigars. He was. He was.
He was. That's pretty sad, that's like a part of history. Yeah, he wore a cowboy hat and had a bandana around his neck all the time, he was, you knew when he was there. Yeah.
Yeah. Hmm. Hmm. Hmm.
Video? Yes, now we have a video. Okay. Oh.
Alright. Okay. Now this video, I wanted to play another video, but I decided we're going to hold off on that video for now. I can hit go?
Uh, yeah, it just, you know, like, play like, play it briefly. Cigars, let's go inside, check out their selection, and grab one that you're going to love. So right here, I'm holding... Oh my, right there!
Is that where we stopped? Yeah, that's good, that's good. Oh my lord, look how tall he has! All right, so Terence, Terence Riley is at Neptune Cigars, and he's picking out, he's talking about value cigars, JFR cigars, great cigar, great cigar.
Terence, I love you Terence. Great cigars. Terence, you're an amazing person. Yes.
Yes, love your cigars. You know, if you could just, you know, say something, don't be mean, I'm sensitive right now. So, but anyways, I'm gonna say something mean about you. So, so, he's in there, dude, and look at the size of him, and compare it.
Now, when I stand up in there, they come to about here on me, so I can see over them, but to him, they came to his chest. Yeah, he looks like, he looks like, so I did a post on his, on there, like a, like, I was looking for Alice in Wonderland, where she was like stuck in the house, but I just found a cartoon instead. It's like Gulliver's Travels. Yeah, exactly, he's just like this giant person.
Yeah, because, I mean, it opens, he's bending over, picking one up, then he stands up, and he's just towering over. " "What are you, about 6'10"? "You 7'5"? What is this?
" So yeah, I got a kick out of that video. Yeah, that was funny. I thought that was great. That's not what he intended it to be, I'm sure.
No, no, I'm sure. How'd he get that money? He had money in his hand outside. Yeah, that's so weird.
Wow, like our industry and have money. - Yeah, he's got platinum cards and stuff. - What, did you see a picture of his wife today? He has to have money.
- Oh, man. - She's a very attractive young lady. - Terrence is a handsome man. - Yeah, he's just very tall, I understand.
I'm not saying he's not, but-- - He's got a lot of positive going for him. - Sure. - He's tall, he's handsome. - You know, why do people say I have to have money because I have an attractive wife?
But if I say it about him, it's-- - Oh, this is a little-- - It's a double standard thing, 'cause I'm short. - Yeah. - And you're old. - Right, oh, okay, he's tall and handsome.
- Yeah. And has money, so of course. Oh, I mean, you don't know that he has money or not. Well, he showed it outside.
That was like a $10 bill or something. I don't see 10s. This was a little deeper for Palmer. That's why he-- That's what it was.
Big money. Yeah, it went a little deeper. I'm sorry. Been a rough week.
Listen, you're a very handsome xenomorph, okay? Thank you very much. Yeah, right. Have you started working on that yet?
No, I haven't. Oh, okay. I haven't. I had football coaching yesterday and then basketball coaching yesterday.
And then more basketball coaching yesterday, and then I got to deal with working on populating the membership program on top of fixing the media platform for the wholesale on top of David Hasselhoffman had an issue with the CH Pod site, so no, didn't get a chance to do that one. Gotcha. You're going to have to show me how to enter the stuff. Well, I'm trying to expedite that for you.
Okay. Yeah, that would be nice if I could just enter a file. Well, I'm trying to do that now, yeah. Gotcha.
I guess MailChimp would give us a weird extension file thing, I think. Yeah. So, no, I'm doing... All right, I won't touch it then.
Yeah, everything's being done a la carte. Okay. I got it. All right.
All right, are we moving on? I think so. All right, now it's time for the industry's favorite game. Oh, we have this still.
Yeah, that's right. What's the score? I might want to change the brand. oh no no no no no it's fine can you predict a cigar score from a halfway review before it's revealed we'll give you clues you make the guess as the review unfolds the answer gets closer or does it not yet the closest guess wins no today's cigar september 2nd you didn't get the dun dun dun though no he said not yet yeah you stomped him oh dun dun dun usually you say let's Let's play "What's the Score"?
Oh, let's play "What's the Score"? Dun, dun, dun! Thank you. September 2nd, 2026, Patrick LaGreed is the reviewer.
Oh, we like him. JRE Tobacco Company, limited edition reviews the Aladino 250th. 250th? Yes.
Like America 250th? Patrick LaGreed? Yes, exactly. It's their America cigar.
America. It's a great country. Home of the free. Well, free people.
It's not fair. It is fair. No, but you can say things that I can't. It is fair.
It is very fair. All right. We talked about this. All right.
Go. Come on. We need a score. Stop talking about it.
What do you score? 90. Panda. 89.
89. Can I am from the Panda? No, no, you can't call me Panda. That's somebody's name.
Pink Panda? Panda, Panda, Panda. Cigar Reviews, Yaldino, 250th. It is from Honduras.
The factory is Fabrica de Puros, Aladino, Atlas Loma, Hammerstrand. Hammerstrand. Wrapper, undisclosed. Binder, undisclosed.
Filler, undisclosed. Length, 6x52. It's round, $15. And they reviewed three cigars.
Ninety. Eighty-nine. The Aladino 250th delivers an enjoyable evolving profile with peanuts, toasted bread, creamy sweetness, and a standout campfire and graham cracker combination on the retrohale, or a s'more. Ninety.
Eighty-nine. Clue number two: construction is impressive throughout most of the smoke. With a clean burn line, strong smoke production, dependable draws, and an ash that holds together exceptionally well. Ninety-one.
Ninety. He is following me. Third clue: consistency between samples could be better. Uh-oh.
The first cigar was noticeably lighter and softer than the others. Huh. Huh. Go figure.
While the final third required a couple of relights to stay burning. 89. 88. Final thought.
The Aladino 250th is a very good, consistently enjoyable cigar, even if it never delivers one truly defining moment. It's well-developed Honduran character, medium to medium full flavor, and balanced uses use of earth and pepper to make it easy to recommend the profile establishes itself early and remains steady without becoming monotonous there are plenty of reasons to like the cigar though fewer reasons to absolutely love it but it's still one i would gladly smoke again 89 85. oh hold on You guys tied. Oh, it's 87.
87. Oh. Wow. I don't think it's happened before.
A lot of odd things going on today. I guess I'll just turn that off. All right. Anything else to add?
