147 Weekend Update....and Industry News

147 Weekend Update....and Industry News

Episode Summary

Episode 147 of A Cigar Hustler's Podcast is a "Weekend Update and Industry News" show with hosts Mike Stepankevich and Mike (Mike & Mike Productions) riffing before digging into the week's cigar trade headlines. The first half is pure shop talk and family comedy — a lesson in homophones from Mike's seven-year-old, Xbox controller pairing chaos, Buccaneers and Cowboys football misery, Halloween candy raiding, mask fatigue and COVID reality checks, and a post-election temperature read on the country. They also recap a busy week at the shop: an Hourglass Brewing beer collaboration release, an upcoming Jodek stout bottling, and the release party for their own War Bear cigar.

The industry news block covers four stories. Les Fines Lames, the French maker known for cigar knives, expands into ashtrays with the Monad (single-cigar, $68) and Dyad (two-cigar) models, made in Paris with a wabi-sabi aesthetic and felt-lined bottoms in five colors. Viaje's Thanksgiving trio returns: Farmer Bill Hatchet (a Nicaraguan puro with a criollo wrapper, ~$11.40/cigar in 10-count boxes) plus Stuffed Turkey White Meat and Dark Meat in a 5 x 58 robusto gordo at roughly $10 a stick, with history traced back to the 2011 White Label Project and shipping around November 16. JR Cigars announces Nightshade from Drew Estate — named for the Solanaceae plant family — with a Connecticut River Valley habano wrapper, Indonesian binder, and Dominican/Nicaraguan filler in corona, robusto, toro extra and torpedo, also distributed via Santa Clara.

The headline story is the hosts' own release: the 2020 Pochteca Wojtek War Bear Toro. The 6 x 52 features a barber pole wrapper of Ecuadorian habano and San Andrés maduro over an Indonesian binder and Nicaraguan filler, made at Nicasunyu (NACSA) in Estelí, limited to 500 boxes of 21. They explain the Polish heritage behind the names — Pochteca's nod to the WWII Warsaw Uprising and Wojtek, the Syrian brown bear enlisted in the Polish army who hauled ammunition crates in 1944 — plus the decision to ship retailers first and hold online sales for a week to protect the "Hustler Nation." They also issue a gentle correction to Cigar Coop on the video press release credit (Mike & Mike Productions, not Pochteca), and name Listener of the Week: David Burke of Cigar Jukebox.

*Extrape, La Florina* All right, this is episode 147. The wire in the red one. Yes, of the Cigar Hustler Podcast. Dope.

It's the number one show on Podbean. Some of the other places we've fallen down. Have we? Yeah, we don't really concentrate on anything else other than Podbean.

Well, hey, you know, who gives a shit? We're like number 25 on Player FM. Oh, I don't even know what Player FM is. Have you ever heard anybody say, you know, I listen on Player FM?

Apparently, no one does, so, no. So, I'm not really that worried about it. Oh, I'm not worried about it at all. Oh, I forgot to check Spotify.

Oh, iHeart, I couldn't think of iHeart. iTunes is very cryptic. Yeah, they're hard to figure out where you rank on them there. Yeah.

Very difficult to deal with. It's so hard. Anyway, this is episode 147. 147.

147. Hey, so I got a question for you. Certainly. Oh, you're smiling.

This one's gonna be bad. Do you know what a homophone is? A homophone? A homophone.

Homophone. A homophone. No. You have no idea what a homophone is?

Not slightest. Okay. Why? That's interesting.

Why? 'Cause I also had no idea what the fuck a homophone was. So why is it odd that I don't know? 'Cause I just wanted to know that I wasn't the only dumb person.

Oh, okay. I mean, it sounds like it would be like a phone for homosexual people. No, it's not. It's not a homosexual phone.

Well, that's why I said I didn't know, because I figured that was wrong. That would have been so wrong. It would have been awesome if you said that, though. Oh, no, no.

What is a homo phone? So, let me paint a little bit of a picture here for you. Is it a new AT&T? m.

Oh, in the morning. Because kids don't give a fuck. And Jack's my eight-year-old, almost eight-year-old, seven-year-old, eight-year-old, seven, nine, 10, 15, 55, my seven-year-old, he's really seven, he comes in and he wants to do Heads Up with me, you know what Heads Up is, that's like the Ellen DeGeneres game, you have to guess the thing on the phone, you're right, so I'm fucking holding this thing, I got like one eye open, and he does it on his iPad, I'm like okay dude, I always say yeah, yeah sure, you know, whatever, yeah I'll do it. Let's go.

Come on. Almost to a point where I think that that has become a problem. Because if I'm like, nah. He's like, what?

What? Serious? Why not, dude? What do you mean?

You don't want to throw the football for another hour. But it's been eight hours. All right. One more.

One more. One more. One more. One more.

One more. So it's my turn. I'm holding the iPad. And he says, okay, it's a homophone.

So he knows what it is. And I go, what? Wait, wait, wait, no, I've never actually played this game, so the word pops up on the thing, they describe it to you, and you have to guess what it is. Guess what it is, yeah.

" Wow. " The sun's a homophone? The sun is a homophone. I have no idea.

I still lost. So a homophone is a word that sounds the same, two words that sound the same, But are spelt differently and have different meanings. Oh, S-U-N and S-O-N. Yeah.

Wow. Son of a bitch. Progressive school, huh? We gotta go back to second grade, bro.

Shit. That's how bad it is. Wow, I mean, what a fucking homophone. It's impressive that he knew, I mean.

Yeah, I mean, he just threw it out there. " I'm like, "It is? Really? That's interesting.

" Did you stop the game right there and go, "Hold on. " Well, I asked him what it was, and then I Googled it to confirm. I don't even know why I bothered. You Googled it.

What, you don't believe me there? " Oh. So, you know, like, um... So there's two Xboxes, 'cause, you know, two kids, and they're all set up.

Like, we've had that conversation. Wait till you get the third one. Teddy will need her own. Nah, she'll need like a cell phone, a fucking Snapchat.

She'll be Snapchatting. I have no idea. I have no idea. I don't know.

Wait, wait, Lara Croft. She'll play that one. Tomb Raider. I can't imagine she's going to be girly.

Who knows? Yeah, I can't imagine. Yeah. No.

" Did you see my Facebook post of her beating the shit out of the- Yes, the bing, bing, bing, yeah. And then she switched hands to get the other- Get the other work out the other? Yeah, gotta get this going, too. " Name my supplements, not the giant supplements.

So, there's two Xboxes, and Jack's friend was over, so... I'm gonna ask my wife what a homophone is when she gets home. Oh, I've been looking forward to this all day. I was like, I can't wait to talk to Palmer.

You're asking what a homophone is? And then I was like, oh my god, what if he knows? I'm older than you, there's no way I know. I'm really fucking stupid.

So, but I'm glad you didn't know. Yeah, sure, I'm glad I exceeded your expectations. Welcome to the club. Welcome to the club.

You know, it's a homophone, like, huh? I'm going to use it all the time now. You know, it's a homophone. What's another homophone?

There's a, there's a whole bunch of, there's a whole bunch of homophones. No. Oh. Boom, rev, just pulled it.

I thought boom was the next one. Like, how am I getting booms in it? So. Wait, isn't there more than one?

Wait, I'm trying to, what? If you're using a sound boom, is that still B-O-O-M? But that, the long stick with the microphone? Yeah, it's about the same.

Still smoking. Not a homophone. Not a homophone. So if you guys would like to call in with your homophones.

Please tell us the homophones. The number is 382. So, my son's friend's over, right? And they're all playing Madden.

So I need three remotes on one Xbox. Isn't it four? No, there's three kids. So you can put them all on the same team or whatever the hell.

Oh, okay. You can do up to four, which is pretty cool. On the same team? On the same team?

Yeah. I mean, which really just turns into-- On one screen? That's gotta be confusing. Well, they're all--yeah, it's not that confusing, because usually what happens is Jackson, they pick Baltimore, he's Lamar Jackson, and nobody else gets to see the ball, he just runs.

Oh. Lamar Jackson's like a cheat code. I would lose my guy on the screen. Yeah.

It's a little complicated. I mean, there's 12 guys on the team, and all of a sudden there's three of them--wait, I got a ball, I got a ball. No, no, I got the ball. Oh.

Look, if it's a Friday night, past eight o'clock, I'm trying to get myself 20 minutes, okay? No, I mean, hell, let 'em play, tell 'em all they're the same guy, only hook one of them up. " I'm like, "No, it's not. " That was when I hit that moment.

He's like, son of a bitch. I better stop fighting here. Okay, let me go back and review. Yep, fuck, it's the wrong guy.

I'm like, you're right. It's the right. I was just testing him. No.

I told him, I said, yeah, son of a bitch. He goes, yeah, homophone, dad. That's when he looked at me and said, homophone. Actually, but that happened the day after.

Oh. It didn't work out. Maybe he was going to sleep. He watched, he was supposed to go to bed.

They're supposed to go to bed at 7:30. Was it a sleepover? No, no. It was just, you know.

Just Friday night? Yeah, one of his friends from football was over. Oh, 'cause you all have people over on Friday nights. Oh, yeah, it's a big thing.

I invited you out on Saturday, pal, you blew me off. You called at 9 o'clock. You usually aren't out there 'til 11. No, Saturdays.

I figured I was ahead of the curve. Hey, I don't go out often. Yes. Okay, I don't go out often.

So, when these things kind of happen, they develop quickly, and they're not set in stone. Like, it just goes. Did you do the chant for me, though, when you went? Did you go back in and go, Jimmy?

He likes when we do that. No, I didn't, because he didn't have my fucking Sincoro, and I was very upset about that. Oh, he always has my screwball. " I just have to say the usual, though.

Yeah. I like the usual, Jimmy. I'll take the ush. I don't know where I was going with that now.

I had you out. You were going out. You're going out Saturday night. " Or no, not I'm going, I'm at.

Yeah. No, if I could have been out, I would have been here. It's like 10 minutes away. They had a roller here, apparently.

We did. So, before that, I went to Hourglass. Yes. And then we did, like, the beer release there for the Jodek, which should be happening soon here.

The 20th, I believe. Yeah. Which is really exciting. So, finally, finally, finally, the rock, no, we'll get the stout bottles.

I can't wait. It comes bottled. We don't have to, like, take it out of the tap and fill the bottle, right? Yeah, no.

No, it's got, no, it's done. It's a done deal. It's sealed up, ready to go. They go, Skip's been up my ass about sending them some, I'm like, I don't have them yet, so that's gonna happen, which is pretty exciting.

We need shirts. Yeah, okay, I wanna get more of these. Oh, that's easy. I tried to order them the other day, it's not that easy.

Did you get from the same place again? I tried, yeah. And they wouldn't make them? No, I tried to hit just the reorder button.

Oh. And the reorder button just gives you blanks. Because it's probably been so long. It's probably been so long.

It hasn't, though. It hasn't even been a year. Yeah, but how long do they keep the reorder? I can tell you what somebody bought from our website in 2010.

Yeah, but can they go on now and just hit reorder? No. Okay, fair enough. Good point.

But anyways, but it says that I could just reorder. Oh. And then I can't. So just type it in again.

How did you send the P thing? I uploaded this file. You had to upload the file? Yeah.

So then I got to find the file. It's just super complicated. Oh. But the beer is coming.

I'm very excited about the beer. Yes. Yes, the beer. We started to release the War Bear.

We started shipping them out. Last past Friday, we had a release party here at the shop. It went really well. It did go very well.

We sold a lot of them. We've been shipping them out to all our retailers. It started last Thursday. And the fact of the matter is that they're not going to be online for us until the retailers receive them, right?

Until the Hustler Nation gets them. To the Hustler Nation, which is all of our retailers and supporters of the brand. Because that's the right thing to do. Yes, it is.

Take care of the people. Well, you tell people that they seem to understand, so. Yeah, well, of course. Yeah.

" Nobody does that. No, because if you have a local shop that you're going to, like, I don't want to fuck, I don't want that guy walking in. " No, not yet. I live in Chicago, can I get it?

No. Connie at Blue Havana will have it. Is that what he's going to have in Chicago? Yeah.

Okay, so the gentleman that asked, I'm sorry, I don't have your name right here in front of me, but Connie at Blue Havana. Yep, he'll have them soon. He, he, Connie's a he. Connie's a he.

Connie's a he. You always screw that up. Do I really? Yeah.

You sure? I don't think I do. I don't think that's on the list of mistakes I've made. I can't wait to introduce you to him, cuz he could definitely kick your ass.

Okay. I'm bringing my friend Art Finch with me. Can he kick Art Finch's ass? I don't think so.

I mean, maybe. Art Finch is big. Art Finch's a big guy. He's scary looking, though.

I love that guy. He's very nice. He's such an amazing dude. He's a teddy bear, but he looks like he'd rip your head off, though.

This is how souped to the homeless and stuff. So, I've been robbing the, I've been pillaging the big full candies that we had from Halloween. Oh, from the children? Yes, they're nicely, Brittany nicely stacked them in the refrigerator and I have been slowly devouring them throughout the week.

" That sounds horrible. Jimmy Fallon, that was his name. That's a terrible thing to do to somebody. Well, they made a thing of it, wouldn't you?

Why would you crush your kid's dreams? Hopes and dreams. I don't know, I don't know. So the Bucs game was a mess.

Oh, that was what I was going to. So Jack's supposed to go, the kids go to bed at 7:30, but like usually the TV's on, you know, he likes to watch football. He usually falls asleep right when the game starts. Well, the Tampa Bay game last night was fucking atrocious.

Oh, was it? I saw clips of it today on the TV. Oh, my God. It looked like Mr.

Brady was not very happy. No, no. Brady was off. I mean, their defense was a mess.

I mean, it was just so bad. And they couldn't get out of it. The meltdown from my son. Oh, really?

It was so bad. I have never had that kind of experience. It was from football. Wow.

Yeah. Yeah. I think I've created a monster. I can say, just look what you got to get forward to.

All I can say is, thank God he's not a Cowboys fan. Wait. Ooh. Yeah.

I mean, they almost had, they almost knocked off Pittsburgh. Oh, because I saw Uncle Skip was making a post about it. Yeah. We them boys.

Yeah. I thought they were doing well. Then all of a sudden. They had the fucking arena football kid from the Orlando Apollos and he did all right.

He was doing, I'm like, holy shit. Kicker or something? No, he's the quarterback. Oh, the quarterback.

Yeah. Oh, from, wait, the Cowboys have the arena league? - Player? - Yeah.

- Oh, can he throw that far? - He was doing great. - Was he? - He was doing great.

- For him. - And then, man, they lost. I really wanted them to knock off Pittsburgh, but it didn't happen. It didn't happen.

Sad. Sad day. But we, I mean, we had a good week. We had a busy week.

We, you know, there was a lot going on. We did the Hourglass and then, you know. - Oh, the thing here at the shop, yeah. I thought we were still talking about.

- Yeah, the thing at the shop and, you know, I had my kid at a meltdown and, you know. - This Friday, we're doing the Cookie Monster. - Oh. We have a promotional video released tomorrow from Mike and Mike Productions.

We might go see our friend Mike at Hourglass. When? So we can build another production of the beer release. Oh.

What do you think of that? When are we doing that? I don't know. We should walk in with the lights and the equipment.

I think that our video was really well received. Was it? Yeah. Good.

I'm glad. You did a great job. I just did some of the shooting. All the editing was you with the fancy.

Yeah, that's true. But you know what? I don't remember exactly what they were, but as I was doing it, you had mentioned a couple of things as I was putting it together. The only thing you didn't do is that original shot of the truck was a little whitewashed.

I couldn't get it any darker. It was just so bright. I figured, yeah, because it was so bright outside. In a white truck, the sun just beat up.

But you talked about clipping specific things out, and I was like, "Oh, that makes sense. " Oh, yeah. I mean, once you got past the truck, it was great. You did good.

You did good. Yeah. Oh, congratulations. Congratulations Mike.

Congratulations. Oh, we just touched hands. COVID. COVID.

Oh, no. Oh. Watch this. Just, we'll briefly touch on politics now that that's kind of over.

I think it's over. Who knows? Is it over? Yeah, I hope so.

Is he not still suing people? Who cares? Or yelling, I didn't lose? All I can tell you is that my guy didn't win.

And I'm really upset about it. But next, hopefully in four more years, I'll know who Kanye's vice president is and I'll vote for him again. Yeezy 2024. He's in 1994, goddammit.

Poor guy, does he know his guy didn't win? Doesn't he have a lot of mental issues? He got like, I don't know man, it could just be… Stress? It could just be bullshit.

From the Kardashian family, stress and violence or something? I mean, he pissed on like a Grammy or something. Oh, I didn't even know that. Oh yeah, on Twitter, he's like… Literally?

He's like, I won't stop. Yeah. That's my president. Oh, please don't.

Don't let him run. Oh my god, no. Oh, shit. That we're talking about a nationwide mask mandate today is one of the first thing he's gonna do.

Well, you know, I don't think that it that unfolds the way that anybody thinks it's gonna happen, probably not, I don't know. Because there's this whole thing like states, governors and stuff. Well, he was having a meeting with the governors to put his nationwide mask mandate. I don't know, I wear a mask everywhere I go, but here still, so I don't care.

You know, like, I gotta be honest, as time wears on, I feel like I wear it less. Are you? I mean, I'll wear it at Home Depot, I'll wear it when I go shopping. Well, that's what I mean.

When I go out shopping, I wear it. But, like, if I'm at the gym, I'll wear it in, and I'll have it. They don't enforce it? No, but, like...

Does it just hang from your ear? Yeah, it'll hang from my ear a lot. Stretch it across your forehead, make it a sweatband? No, I saw somebody do that today.

That was interesting, yeah. " So it looks like a bandana push on all the air? I will tell you that if, like, older people are close to me, I'll put it on. Oh, look at you.

Because they usually work out with their masks on. " And I'm like, alright, well if you feel like that, I definitely feel like that. Right. " Like they're ashamed of it or something.

" Oh, thank you. And what the fuck is that about? Just, if you want to wear it, wear it, if you don't, you know, whatever. If I was older, I think I'd wear it more.

If you're in that- That bracket. Yeah. Or if you had health conditions. Yeah.

There was a guy that came in Friday night who said he had been in the hospital for a couple of days. He had it. I mean, at this point, you probably know somebody that has had it. Oh, I'm sure.

Right? Oh, yeah, yeah. I know a handful of people who have had it. Well, my son, the fireman, he got it.

He had it? Was he in college or something? No, he's a fireman. Oh.

He gets tested every three weeks. Well, I mean, he's a first responder. Right, that's what I mean, every three weeks. So he got it, he got tested, didn't have it negative.

Next time you had it, or next time he went to get his test, he was positive for the antibody, so he had it and didn't know it. Sounds like the system's broken. So then, yeah, so then he has to, well, he's already done it now, but he had to get two negative tests, which, you know, just took a couple of days. Well, he already had the one.

Well, right. I guess you're right. I didn't even think about that, but he had to have two after that, I guess. So they sent him home for a week.

He, you know, first test, negative, and then wait two weeks, second test, negative, back to work. No shit. Yeah. I think that they should have just domed the colleges when this originally hit.

Just locked everybody in there? Just, yeah. I don't know if I spoke of that before, but like, "Hey, here's what we're gonna do. We're just gonna let you guys do whatever the fuck you want.

" Most of them did anyway. What? Most of them did anyway. Right, but that's what I'm saying.

You see the stupid ass videos where they're spitting in each other's mouths, or they're all drinking from the same- Ooh, spitting in each other's mouths. Yeah. That sounds exciting. Or they're all drinking from the same beer bottle or something.

I mean, you know. We're gonna get the COVID. We're just gonna get it and get it over with, so here you go. But so like, you know, if we if there was actually a plan where they were just here, you can't leave campus, you know, it's just going to somebody somebody would have just hit them with the reality of, look, it's going to explode in the entire university and you need to Uber Eats or whatever the fuck you want.

And that's it. You're not going anywhere. I mean, it would be like a three. It would be like a three week overlay.

And like the NBA thing they did where they locked all the players up in the bubble. Yeah. But it's a reverse bubble. This one has the infection.

Oh, right. Well, yeah, yeah, yeah, you're right, just send one in. Right. Just send one in, you don't have to send one in, you know that 12 or 500 people already fucking have it, so, yeah, so, I mean, I don't know, the mask, mask fatigue is definitely, is really a thing, is really a thing, I mean, I'll wear it still, like I said, when I go to those other stores and stuff, but, the gym and shit, like, half the people don't give a fuck, if you're around me and you give a fuck, I'll put it on, but.

You know, I was out at Home Depot and Target this weekend, they're not, I mean, Target used to be adamant, You walked in, you didn't have it, they sent you back out. No, not so much. There's just, you know, I will tell you this, I had to stop at Target and Home Depot and I didn't have one, they had masks there. Yeah, most places are doing that.

I'm like, hey, I'm sorry, I don't have a mask. Oh, here you go. Right, they give you the paper one. Yeah, well, yeah, no, it was like, you know, the nice little operating ones like that.

Right. I'm like, oh, I'm never going to bring one again. I'm going to just stockpile these and resell them. Get your masks here.

Get your masks. One dollar. Slightly used. Slightly used.

So yeah. Anything else? We're coming up on break here. Might as well just chitchat here for another minute or two.

That just covers a brief review of the week. Dude, it was a good week. If I could say anything about this whole year, it's been hard, right? It's been really tough.

Right. And the countless decisions that you got to make, and as a small business owner, and just like the whole impact of everything, you know, between, you know, Floyd and, you know, the COVID, and then President Trump losing his shit with his Twitters, tweets? What hurt? No, George Floyd.

Oh, George Floyd. Yeah. You know, like, yeah, I can't breathe. Yeah, right.

The BLM, like all of the hurricanes sitting out there. I was thinking you meant hurricane. You know, no, I mean, no, that's kind of hitting us. But like, oh, you know, even that's It's too like you're, you know, well, how do you react to the, I mean, fucking poor Louisiana has been, they got all of them.

Oh, yeah. Well, ETA or ETA, whatever the one is called now that's out there, it was headed for them and then it turned back to, no, no, I want to go to Florida. Yeah, but it's a small, you know. It's a little one, but it was going around the Caribbean like a drunken sailor.

It hit every island you could hit. Right. I get this one. I need to stop at Cuba, I need to stop over here.

But it, I mean, it has been, like, this has been a really hard year as far as, you know, making decisions on a daily life. Like to a point where it's been mentally exhausting, right? But like last week really kind of felt like the fog was kind of starting to lift a little bit. Yeah.

You know, like, I don't know what it is. It just seemed like we're getting past it. We're getting past it as a country. What do you think, got anything to do with the election?

Probably, you know, I just think that, you know. I was waiting for them to go, you know, the day after the election, go, oh, pandemic's over. No, I mean, I don't think that, I don't think it's, it's to that level. It just seems like there's a little more, hey man, I might, you might disagree with me, I might disagree with you, but let's, we're just gonna fucking move along.

As long as I know, there were no riots or anything based on who won and who didn't win, which was a big surprise for everybody. Well, it's still, but it is still technically lingering, but, you know. Yeah, but I think now the, uh, the momentum is, uh, is, is not there. God, I hope so, man, because I don't want to see anybody, some innocent people die for no fucking reason.

Oh, that would be stupid. Yeah. So, yeah. So, yeah.

It was a good week. All right. Well, we could break a little early, come back and do the news. Yeah.

Okay. We can do that. All right. Because we're at 24 minutes.

I feel good about that. All right, guys. We'll be right back. Hey, it's Mike, too.

I do want to briefly mention that the Heckle and Jekyll Show this past week was their first show without a guest. Oh, yeah? I only watched the beginning again, and then I just didn't watch anyway. Still my favorite part.

I saw a part. There was one thing that, there was one. They mentioned us several times in the beginning. Was that the same one where Jack goes, oh, shit, I just lost Zoom?

Yeah. Oh, man, that was amazing. That was the same one. Right.

I jumped off of it right as you were coming in. Ah. Okay. They did reference, hey, Mike S.

says the best part of the show is the beginning. I feel like I saw it afterwards, though. I don't know if I caught it live. Oh.

Ooh, Frenchy just asked me to. It's much better live. Very popular. The whole War Bear thing.

Oh, you said a birthday. John D. Oliver just said a birthday. Yeah, he did.

He's older now. Yeah, I don't know. Which is nice. He's at least 15.

Maybe 16. Big boy for 15. You know. Alright, should we get in with the news, Michael?

Yes. Tell me about the news. Hey, I'm going on Coop again. Are you?

Yeah. When is that? I don't know. I'll tell you.

Okay. Because I have some of Coop's news here, too. Okay, La Fins Lamaze launches Monad and Dyad Ashtrays. I figured there was a lot of words in this story.

I'm going to get it wrong. Les Fins Lamaze, the French company known for its cigar knives, has expanded to another cigar accessory segment, Ashtrays. They're pre-recording it. The company has-- It's gonna be on November 28th, it's pre-recording.

The company has begun selling a new line of asherays under the name Monad, M-O-N-A-D, Monad, Monad, Monad, Monad. Nads? And D-Y-A-D, Dyad, D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D. When you only have one nad, you need Monads.

That's right, or you need a dyad. Or you need a dyad. Both asherays are made in Paris. Ooh.

I thought that'd be a place to use my-- My pari? My accent, but-- Monami. No, no. No quotes.

No quotes. The company's aesthetic of Wabi Sabi, they're making them Wabi Sabi, Michael, which centers around finding beauty and imperfections. The company says the mortar material means that it will show signs of use, which would further this belief, though cleaning with a scrubber will stock it back to its original state. Both ashtrays are offered in five colors: athrocyte, blue, green, gray, and red.

What is athrocyte? I don't know. Blue, green, gray, and red. Sounds magical.

Maybe it's a green, I guess? Monad is the company's single cigar ashtray measuring six inches by six inches by one half. It's like a light chicken gravy. It is priced at $68.

Dyad is the same size though, slightly different shape with space for two cigars on opposite sides. I really feel like you're blowing those names. It is priced at what? It was D-Y-A-D.

D-Y-A-D. D-Y-A-D. D-Y-A-D. D-Y-A-D.

D-Y-A-D. Monad. Monad. Both ashtrays have felt line bottoms to protect the surface where they are used.

Look, I mean, you know, we did just kind of hammer that guy's names for no reason, but the fact of the matter is... Well, they're lovely looking ashtrays. I mean, 80% of the people that try and talk about our product, they never get the names. They can get none of the names right.

I mean, hell, the video Chet and I did, he messed up on the- Yeah, those post-on, he said the Wojtek is like the Wojtek. I was like, what the fuck? Right, I let that go because it was funny. Like, we'll just keep that there.

Just keep that in. Even with the media release, like I've read all the articles that people sent me and stuff, they all had misspellings. Oh, did they really? Well, not all of them.

I mean, Coop doesn't make really any mistakes. Oh, he did. Did he? There's one which we will discuss.

Just one. Charlie doesn't make any mistakes. I mean, he, Charlie from Hapfel, he's like, oh, there's a Cruck shirt in there, there's a foundation shirt, and I'm like, yeah, we love, you know, these are our guys, of course, we're, you know, we're gonna support them, because it ain't just all about our regime. I have a message from Abe, my friend Abe, just a moment.

Oh, your friend Abe, smoking. Yes. Sorry. I feel like you're like the Manchurian candidate.

Maybe he's slowly... Stealing me away? grooming you into murdering me or something. Oh, uh, Viaje Farmer Bill Hatchet and, wait, Viaje Farmer Bill Hatchet?

Is that, is that all one person? Farmer Bill Hatchet? Yep, yep, yep, yep. And Stuffed Turkeys returning this month.

Viaje's core trio, thanks, there's three, what is it, there's three there? You have the white meat and the dark meat and the stuffed turkey, and then you have the Farmer Bill Hatchet. Farmer Bill Hatchet, Stuffed Turkey White, ah, meat, and Stuffed Turkey Dark Meat. Well, if you have questions, I have answers.

I don't even have to read the article. They're set to be back in store shelves in the days before the holiday. Are we getting those? We might get the Farmer Bill Hatchet.

The two stuffed turkey cigars have the most history of the three cigars, dating back to a single release in 2011 as part of the company's white label project. The line added the dark meat version in 2012 and thus making the original, the white meat version, with both leaving the program in 2014 to get their own packaging. Ooh! The company is yet to confirm...

They got a little turkey on it. Yeah, a little turkey. And the Farmer Bill had you... Do eat the turkey.

The company is yet to confirm specifics on the cigars, but according to retailers listings, the 2020 version will once again be offered It's written in a 5x58 Robusto Gordo Vitola and priced at $250 for a box of $25 and $10 per cigar before taxes as it blends both versions using a Nicaraguan binder and filler with white meat using a Nicaraguan Criollo, what's that one tobacco that I apparently don't like that's in the hot pocket, is that the one that's in the Black Friday, is that it? " You know what I mean? It doesn't work that way. Yeah, it doesn't work that way.

Hmm. Well, whichever one he uses, I have to pull that week's there. And, like, I don't remember which one it is now because I'm tired, but I could tell you that one of them just means native. Like, it breaks down to native of the area.

Oh, interesting. Native what? It's just, it's the native. The native one.

Okay. Does that mean it's got a little feather in you? No, I don't think it's that kind of native. Is it on the island wearing a coconut bra native?

I don't think it's that kind of native either. I don't either, huh? Yeah. So weird.

I think it's from the area of... Ah, gotcha. Yeah. 40 per cigar before taxes.

What is it, like a 10-cat box? As the story goes, Farmer Bill Hatchet is named for the person who helps out. This comes out. The stuffed turkey to your Thanksgiving table.

Hmm. Wow. I just didn't cut there. According to a comment left on Instagram post, the company said the cigars will begin shipping to retailers November 16th.

Yeah. There's a zombie one, too, sometimes. As for the company's other Thanksgiving-themed cigars, such as Zombie Farmer Bill Hatchet, Farmhand Andre, and Zombie Farmhand Andre, the company said they will not be shipping this month, but did expand beyond this so whether or not they will be appearing in the near future. It could happen.

New cigars via its social media accounts. And then usually next month they'll do the candy cane and they've done the tree one before. The tree one was pretty good. Was it?

It was pretty popular, yeah. Bring back the tree, Andre. You know, we did them here. We could have a promotion at Chet and I could dress up like a turkey and a Farmer Bill hatchet gun.

I mean, you could just do that. You could just do it. It's a nice game. It's silly.

We're going to get the Farmer Bill. I feel good about that one. All right, here it is. Here's what we've been waiting for, Michael.

Oh, tell me. The release of the Votek Postaña Warbearer. Oh, my goodness. Postaña Cigars, 2020 installment.

This is from Cigar Coop. The other stories were from Half Wheel. Make sure we get that out there. 2020 installment of its Postaña Votek.

Votek. Votek? Votek. I think those are both spelled right, series.

The Postaña Toro is now heading to retailers. Yes. The Pustania is a limited... I'm just skipping the word.

He said it. Okay. The Pustania Warbear is a limited edition cigar, first launched 2019 in Perfecto Saks. Yeah.

Cigar pays homage to the Polish heritage of owners Mike and Greg Stepankiewicz. It does. Son of a bitch. The name Pustania means...

You would think that with the red and the white flag with the P, like that... Means that they love everyone, it says. Oh, it does it. It's uprising and pays homage to the resistance movement in the World War II Poland against German occupation of the country.

Huh. As for the name Wojtek, it means War Bear refers to a Syrian brown bear that was actually enlisted in the Polish army. It's like a regular name for people. It's like Eric.

Really? Yeah. Interesting. This is Bob.

So is there somebody out there named... This is Bob the Bear. Bob the Bear. Yeah.

So he's best known for moving crates of ammunition to Polish soldiers during the war in 1944. You know, from the photo, he's not as big as you would think he was. No, he was a brown bear, a Syrian brown bear. Yeah, but most people picture him As a grizzly bear.

As a grizzly bear. Well, of course, you know, we beefed him up for the box. I told you how that played out, right? " Hey, boo-boo!

" And make this a bigger bear. And what's even awesomer is that, you know, Matul has like a whole... He got a whole degree in shit for images and stuff. Yes, that's where he did our Mike and Mike production logo.

He did, he did. Excellent job, very, very good. I mean, I gotta get, you gotta give the guy credit, like, hey, I'm like, and you call him on a whim, like, I'm like, hey, I'm thinking about this, and he's like, okay, send me some images. You know, a lot of those guys like that, 'cause there's a guy that I use for my work stuff and everything, yeah, I just email him, call him phone, look, I'm thinking about doing this and this, he goes, okay, and he sent you five or six different options.

Yeah, what do you think of this? What do you think of this? I was gonna go, oh, okay, hold on, and then five minutes later, is that, oh, that's perfect, thank you. Yeah, I was thinking that, I was thinking that was fast, so I'll take it.

All right. The blend is highlighted by a barber pole wrapper consisting of an Ecuadorian habano and San Andreas Maduro leaf. It is. The remainder of the blend consists of an Indonesian binder and Nicaraguan fillers.

Oh. The Toro size measures a six by 52 and is available in 21 count boxes with a total production of 500 boxes. 500. Production comes out of Nicasuinyu in Esteli, Nicaragua.

Yes. According to you, who also co-owns the Cigar House, a retail site, oh, I didn't know it was a quote, I could so do your voice there, now we are releasing them to store today, but we will not sell them online until next Friday, it is important to us that we protect the retailers that support us, Hustler Nation, and give them the opportunity to put them up first, Stefan Kavich also made a formal announcement via video. So the rapper is Ecuadorian Habano, San Andres. Via video.

I mean, you know, you've got to step it up. The whole press release. Everybody should be doing it in video now. At least then you can look back and say, you know what?

Who set the precedence for this? It was us. There you go. You're welcome.

Well, we don't need to get into those. But here's the one correction, Mr. Coop. I'm very excited.

The one correction for Cigar Coop. He credited the video to Poshik Cigars. It actually was from Mike and Mike Productions. It was.

So that is the only, only... I don't know, but like, it might have been from the email of Mike at Poshik Cigars or something like that. Could have been. That's why he thought that.

It might have been, yes. Mike and Mike Productions is a whole different animal. Whole separate company. I mean, we got a fancy camera now, we got these mics.

We have two cameras, four microphones, we have these lights. All kinds of shit. We are just hemorrhaging cash. We have a table.

Oh no, don't forget the gong. Yeah, we have a gong. A gong that we don't use much anymore. Hemorrhaging cash on a monthly basis.

I can assure you, it is a net negative operation, but we do some really cool shit, and that's, oh you want to go get it, go get it, oh there it is, you're gonna have to watch the youtube video for that one guys, you guys are, you know, having fun with that, it's good stuff, we got a half of a screenplay that we're working on, They've been working on for two years. Well, that's the way those always work. It takes time to develop. You know, I do a script for everything Chet and I shoot.

I know. We do a script, so. I should be saving those. Yeah, but they, you know, well, I can talk to you about some of that.

About the script? To tweak it, yeah. What do you need is tweak the script. It works for us.

We're just two guys that are, you know. He's our one actor we have on payroll. He's on payroll? No, he doesn't get paid.

Not under Michael Michael Bernard? He doesn't pay at all. There's no money. We can buy our own costumes and things like that.

Yeah. Well, hey. All right, JR Cigars. Bring your own attire.

Right. Bring your own costumes in case you need to change. JR Cigars formally announced a new offering it's carrying from Drew Estate. Do you know what it's called, Michael?

Who's doing it? JR Cigars? I don't know. Nightshade.

Oh, what a cool name, huh? Get out of town. Yeah. Wow.

Nightshade. That's what people wanted to do. Oh. I guess they should have moved a little faster.

Too late. That's what Sean wanted to do. He wanted a lighter cigar called Nightshade. Didn't make sense to me.

Apparently, somebody else thought of it first. The cigar takes its name from the plant family, commonly known as a Nightshade. It's the Solanacea, which includes a tobacco plant. Nightshade features a Connecticut River Valley Habano wrapper over an Indonesian binder and a combination of Dominican and Nicaraguan tobacco.

Cigars are available in four sizes, a Corona, a Robusto, a Toro Extra, and a Torpedo. Huh. Each size is available in 20-count boxes, a Robusto and Toro Extra size, also available in a 5-pack and 10-pack option. Yeah.

And a press release, not a video. Not a video press release, just a standard... You know, I got some backlash from that, too. " Oh, we're going to play it at the end of this episode.

" because I don't want to send you some boring-ass fucking typed-up shit. " That's not the way he sounds at all. How does he sound? It's not...

It's... I don't know. Not that regal sounding. Yeah.

It's kind of like a New York... The blend unites majestic tobacco is from Nicaragua and Dominican Republic and Indonesian, which we then painstakingly wrap around... Oh, wrap under, sorry. A Habano Seed wrapper leaf-grown in the Connecticut River Valley.

Sounds like Nick Malillo. It does. It does. The result is a dark, earthy espresso meeting the blackest of peppers in some Some kind of age goodness dance.

That sounds like him. No joke, Drew added. The nightshade is dope. The nightshade's dope.

It's dope. The cigar will also be distributed via Santa Clara Cigars. Oh. So you can get it.

You can get it. It's also from Coop. You can tell because Coop's format is a little different than everybody else. See, it's Connecticut.

We already done this. Vitolas, we did that too. That's all I got. That's it?

That's it? It's a slow news week, apparently, for everybody. Everybody's just digesting the whole election. We are playing your video at the end, though.

The press release will be here. That's an extra two minutes. Oh, again, it puts us at 40 minutes. Oh, 42.

42. Pedro's going to be upset. He'll get over it. Poor Pedro was sick.

I hope he's better now. Oh, no. He showed up last night. Well, not this past Friday.

He was not here. That's right. But he came in early, earlier in the week. Oh.

Made a purchase. We had a roller here Saturday night, I hear that went really well. Yeah, but you weren't here. No, no, I wasn't here, but I did check tabs.

You weren't allowed. I did keep tabs on what was going on here, though. Even though out, you stay home. No, I stayed home that day.

We were putting up Christmas decorations. That's nice. Oh, yeah, a lot of work. Apparently, you gotta get some new Christmas decorations.

Do you? We found out some of our pre-lit trees don't light no more. Oh, it's no longer pre-lit. No longer pre-lit.

Now it's just a tree. Well, it's a very large tree that has one, two, three, four sections, the bottom lit, the third up lit, the second, and the top, no light no more. So what do you do with that? Now it's just...

Yeah, you just go by two strings of light and... It's not gonna look right. No, it looks fine. You can't even tell.

Really? Yep. I'm a trans-professional. Where'd you get the tree from?

Uh, well, we had the tree probably for four years now. We got it from, uh... So is that the shelf life of a fig tree? Apparently.

Well, the tree's still fine, just the lights. Why don't the light work? Well, I think they're cheap Chinese lights. We're lucky they don't wear it for four years.

It's like an escalator. Escalators never break, they just turn the stairs. Right. Oh, there you go.

Yeah, your Christmas tree just turned into a tree. A pre-lit tree doesn't turn, yeah, it's still, it's just a tree. It's just a tree. You can leave it up all year long.

Oh, what's that Christmas tree? Oh, it's not a Christmas tree anymore, it's just a tree. Just, well, it's huge, though. Well, you know, why she puts up so many, it's just me and her.

I mean, there's three trees. Because it makes her happy, goddammit. I did, and the house looks lovely, so I mean. Like I never understood that, like, well, you know, why do people get upset when, oh, here we go, people put up Christmas, like, who the fuck cares, like, I won't let my wife do that, like, what, what?

Your wife put up Christmas decorations like first of October or something. No, no, as soon as October 31st was over, once Halloween was November 1, boom. Well, Adrian's leaving this weekend to go to Missouri to see her child, so she didn't want to have to come back and rush around right before Thanksgiving, so. That makes sense.

Yeah. What's wrong with Christmas? You know, you do whatever makes you happy is what it is. That's what it boils down to.

Exactly. Don't let anybody tell you otherwise. No, not otherwise. You've been a lot of fun this podcast.

Thank you, so have you. That was sarcastic. Oh. Mine was too.

No witty banter, nothing from you. I thought the first half hour went swimmingly. It just zipped right by with no time at all. So no listener of the week for you?

No, you know what? No. No Listener of the Week. Nobody did anything special.

Really? I think I have a Listener of the Week. Oh, excellent. Who is Listener of the Week?

I'm going to give you a Listener of the Week. Listener of the Week is... Let me tell you one second. I need a bigger gong.

The Listener of the Week is Mr. David Burke of Cigar Jukebox. Oh, from Australia. Yeah.

Yes. Thank you, Mr. Burke. Who also works with Coop.

Oh, does he? Oh, because Coop does a music show with him. Yeah. Oh, is that what you're doing?

I believe I am. You're doing a music show with Coop? I think so. Oh.

I don't really know. Like, I don't read the whole email. It's like, hey, you want to come? I'm like, yes!

Absolutely! I'll be on. What are we talking about? What if they just want you to lift things?

Hey, can you pick that up for us? Put that back there. I just need you to move something heavy. Yeah.

When I say I need you on for the show, I just need you to do it. Oh, I know what we talk about. Have you seen that? Everybody's jumping shipping and going to parlor.

Yeah. What's that about? I don't know. Every time I see it, I just go, MeWe 2019, you'll be back.

You know, what's kind of crazy is like... Did something happen in Facebook? I think it's more like, I think it's like, um, the people that believe, um... Big brother's watching and...

Yeah, like, there's, like, we're gonna jump to this one and this will fix it, which is kind of funny. But then what happens is, like, other people join there thinking, oh, this is my chance. I'm going to build an audience on this, and I'm going to be the first one, and it's going to be amazing. I'm the first one here, and everybody's going to come to me.

And then, if it doesn't work, you come crawling back. That's what everybody did with MeWe. What else was there? There was Periscope for a minute.

Oh, well, that wasn't as much, because that was a video thing. Oh, well, that was terrible if those videos are still around, because your brother and I used to get drunk with Matt Hunt and just Periscope each other trying to talk. That sounds very, very strange. You guys all just get together and start Periscoping.

We'd all just start drinking. We'd pull all our pants down and start periscoping. Hunt would sing, I would slur, and your brother would just video the two of us, and just giggle, so most of the video was shaking. That was the beginning for you.

It was. That was the beginning of your production company. That was it. I'm Mike at Mike Production.

What do you got there? Brotherly Kindness. Oh. Every day.

Every day. Every day. So yeah. But anyway, somebody went and started a, what do they call it?

They don't call it Florida Cigar Club. They call it Florida Cigar Land or something. No, no, when they made the MeWe jump back in 2019. Oh, okay.

They asked my permission. I go, you know what? I really don't have time to start another one. I'm very busy.

I can't. If you'd like to. Super busy. If you'd like to start it, please feel free with my blessing.

Here's the logo, whatever you want to do. Florida Cigar Land. So something. So they made me an admin on it.

So I get these emails every once in a while. Seven people asked to join your MeWe group. And I just delete. It appears that people are jumping, yeah it's still there because I got some over the weekend so I was going to say it appears the MeWe thing might be resurging with Parler.

Oh. I had to look up Parler, I didn't even know what it was. Yeah, I looked it up, I didn't download or anything. I didn't, I read the description.

It's got like two and a half stars. Yeah, I read the description. Yeah, I don't know. I saw that our friend Spencer Drake jumped.

Of course he did. Which is good for you, Spence. There was some joke, something about Scoop's Parlor. He might actually have a parlor in his house or something.

Oh! Oh, and that was the picture of the- That was the picture with the camera set up in there? I saw Aaron said something. Yeah, Aaron made a joke.

So you guys all want to be here now. You laughed about the parlor. You laughed about the parlor. And now you all want to be on the parlor.

Everybody's going to Scoop's Parlor. Yeah. Do you have to sing when you're on the- I don't know. I mean, I'll do whatever he asks.

Whatever, that's fine. Is it just an audio show, or is it a video show? I don't know. Oh.

I told you I didn't read the email. Why don't you read the email? Hey, can you come on the job? Yes.

Uh-huh. They said, hey, can ya? And you said, yes. I just like being a part of it.

Come on, drop your pants. It's just funny. Not a problem at all. Like, I enjoy, I love Coop, you know what I mean?

He's a very nice man. So whenever, and whenever he says, hey, you want to come on, I'm like, pfft, absolutely. I'll go, what are we talking about? No problem.

What are we talking about? Well, I want to get into your little problem you had with, uh, laying up the street. Not a problem, I'll be right on. Hey, whatever you want to talk about.

What are we talking about? You should bring that up. I'm going to troll you, I think, when you're on that. You troll me on everything anyways?

No, I usually very support it when you're on somebody else's show. Oh, but this time you're not gonna be? This time I'm not gonna be. This time I'm gonna troll.

I'm gonna troll. So, okay. Oh, look at that, we ate up almost all the time, now we're just eight minutes short. It feels like it's Pedro adequate.

You think so? I mean, we have reached the Pedro time. Maybe not, but it's better. This is all they're going to get, though.

Did you know we're black next week? Because we disappeared in the background. The only clothes that I have are black. You're a very depressive man.

You have a gray crock shirt. I have like 75 black v-neck shirts. I don't like to think about it. I had the crock shirt on in your press release.

I know, that's what I said. Charlie got mad about that. Oh, that's what he got mad about. It's a crock shirt and Greg was wearing his green I need attention foundation shirt.

I didn't even get that. " I need more attention, because he normally wears green all the time. Pay attention to me. So.

In his videos. Snapping the pit on the counter. Faster! What's going on over here?

You hit the table. I hit the mouse. Did you fix it? Yeah, it's recording.

Hopefully you erase the whole thing. That'd be amazing. It's just an hour of us with no sound. Oh, good.

Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. No, no, it's connected, so we at least have the sound on the camera, too. Oh, that's... Whew.

Whew. So, what are we doing on your Patreon today, Michael? Ooh, I don't know. What are we talking about?

I don't know. I mean, the last two are so good. Yeah. Oh, if you go to look at our ratings now, because we had such a spike two weeks ago.

Yeah. It looks very depressing. Oh, yeah. It starts to come back down.

Well, on the screen, they had to make room for the shh. There's this big phoom. The big phoom, yeah. So now it's like zoomed out.

So even at our normal 200 or 300 or whatever, it looks very little on the blip. Because it's a blip, like a heartbeat. Right. So it goes bloop.

Right. That was where we had the heart attack. And now we're moving along. We have like one of those a season.

Yeah? Yeah. First season was when I was on Abe's show. We had a big bloop that week.

Yeah. But the bloop that week was 100. No, it wasn't like the last one. It wasn't like 1,000.

Right. Now 100. We're depressed. We'll probably get 100.

Nah. Nah. Like this one's only gonna be 25. No.

Like two. But- It's fun. On the upside though, or not an upside, but we now have a highest rated show ever that does not have Uncle Skip in it. We have set the precedence.

So I think now it's time for him to come on the show again. Let's do it. I mean, he's still in town. Is he in town?

Oh, you mean in country? Yeah. That's what I mean. Yeah, in country.

Not in town. Well, yeah, he can't go back. He might die, that'd be terrible. Yeah.

How did they fare with the hurricane? I saw all the pre-stuff, who are you texting? I don't know, I can't tell you. Oh.

It's none of your damn business. Oh. But is it all their business? It's a customer.

Them, the listeners? It's a customer. Listener of the week? It's a customer.
