ACHP 408 Movie Swifties, Treasure and NFL Week 5

Episode Summary
Episode 408 of A Cigar Hustler's Podcast opens with the crew's usual off-topic riffing — Taylor Swift's "The Official Release Party of a Showgirl" topping the box office with $33 million domestically, a Florida salvage team pulling roughly $1 million in gold and silver coins from the 1715 Spanish fleet off the Treasure Coast (with the state of Florida claiming 20% of recovered artifacts), and an intentionally chaotic, AI-generated NFL Week 5 recap that the hosts spend most of the segment fact-checking and laughing at. They also dig into the Mark Sanchez altercation story, the Bad Bunny halftime show controversy, and Mac Jones vs. Drake Maye system talk.

Oh, it's a surprise. I'm going to leave it open. Not the hoodie. Not the hoodie.
We don't have hoodies in stock yet. You ain't getting the hoodie. Maybe the best-selling Alcatraz shirt. Go ahead and buy the hoodie.
I had to re-up on the Alcatraz. We had to re-up on the Alcatraz. Nice. Big shocker on that one.
Okay, let's get into this. All right, on to the news. Taylor Swift breaks box office with a surprise theatrical album event. Oh.
Taylor Swift just pulled off the kind of movie stunt most artists only dream of. Over the weekend, her film, the official release party of a showgirl, shot to number one in the box office, earning $33 million domestically in just three days. Wow. I didn't even know she was releasing a movie.
Me neither. I didn't until I walked into Target the other day. Well, I knew about the album. Wait, well, how did you know, because you're a target, that that was...
There was like a big thing in the middle of the walkway? That was just her albums, wasn't it? I saw that yesterday, too. No, it had like everything.
" What was the movie? Is it a concert? Let's continue. Okay.
Oh. What makes it wild? She announced it just two weeks ago. The film isn't a traditional concert movie.
It's a mix of music videos, behind-the-scenes content, and lyric visuals tied to her new album, The life of a showgirl. Wow. It's just music videos. Wow.
And then she crushed for an extra $33 million. Globally, it added $13 million more, bringing the total opening to $46 million for the album. That's incredible. You want to know who made $75 million for just playing a flag football game in Saudi Arabia?
Who? Tom Brady. One game. Okay.
So, Taylor, how do you like them apples? She didn't do anything extra. Or fly to Saudi Arabia. I guess you got a point.
Critics and industry watchers are calling it a bold experiment using theater space, not for blockbuster film story, but for a live event album experience on the big screen. It was live? It says, but as a live event album experience, so I guess, well that can't be, they only show one time. No, she's done those before and then they have like these videos that come out afterwards with them.
Oh, maybe she did like a live thing where she's talking to them and go, here are my music videos, I like this one the best. I went to this girl's birthday party, one of Tia's friends. Wait, wait, wait, should the story stop there? Go ahead.
No. Okay, go ahead. And she had on like a Taylor Swift concert from like four years back. Oh.
And I was like, what, is this on Netflix or something? She goes, no, no, no, I have the DVD. I bought the DVD. I'm like, the what?
The DVD. The digital video disc is things they used to play. No, I know, but I'm like, you bought the DVD of the concert? Right.
Well, you can't just, like, stream it on YouTube or anything? She's like, no, she's like, you have to get the DVD. I'm like, wow. And they have to have the special code.
That's amazing. In comparison, Dwayne The Rock Johnson's drama, The Smashing Machine, debuted this same weekend. What do you think he got? Thirty-three million dollars.
Fifty-five. Six million. Six? Yeah.
It was a lot lower than Ms. Swiftier. Well, I mean, but that, to be fair, that's like a very arts oriented kind of a movie. Oh, this is the smashing thing?
Yeah, it was designed to be like the life story of the UFC guy, so it's not like it was a blockbuster movie. Correct. Not like it was some type of Marvel superhero? Yeah, it wasn't Black Adam or something, Captain America.
Black Adam is not Marvel. Correct. It's DC, but he was a superhero in that. Yes.
Yeah. Right. So. All right.
Treasure in Treasure Coast. Divers find one million dollars in gold coins from century old Spanish shipwreck in Florida. I saw this. Damn it.
He gets around, doesn't he? Every time you're in a news story. Oh, I saw this. I heard about this.
He's got, he doesn't have a lot going on in his life, is what it is. Oh, yeah. No, this is, this was intriguing. This was intriguing.
A team of divers from a shipwrecked salvage company found treasure at Treasure Coast off Florida in the US. They estimate the Spanish gold and silver coins to be worth one million dollars. We're doing this all wrong. We're in the wrong place.
We're in the right place. We're in Florida. No, no, but this is down by the Brass Pipers. That's the Treasure Coast.
Yeah, like I used to live in Sebastian Inlet and people used to dive all the time over there. Yeah, it's like Melbourne to Fort Pierce. It all comes from a Spanish fleet carrying gold, silver, and jewels from the New World to Spain that sailed and sunk due to a hurricane on July 31st, 1715, spilling the treasure into the sea, according to the 1715 Fleet Society. It's an organization that's just trying to find this fleet's gold.
Well, they found it. They found some. Millions of dollars in gold coins from the 1715 fleet have been found by salvagers and treasure hunters in a coastal area stretching from Melbourne to Fort Pierce over the years. dates and mint marks are even visible on some of the recent discoveries the salvage company said a benefit for historians and collectors hoping to glean more from the lost treasure any treasure or historic artifacts that are found belong to florida what under the state's law requires that roughly 20 of the recovered archaeological materials be retained by the state for research collections or It's a public display.
Yeah, they actually have a museum in Melbourne. Okay. All right. So, wait a second.
Florida just pulls 20 points? No. They pulled 20 percent. They made a loss.
They just break it? Governor's got to fund all his programs somehow. That's wild. They don't cut you a check for that or for your efforts?
I don't... Well, you get the other 80. You get the other 80 percent. Yeah.
Governments... But I don't know how that works. They, like, you know, they lay it all out on a table. " Somebody comes over and says, "Hey, oh hey, you know, I'm going to need a little bit of a taste.
" Well, there's only, I think there's only a certain place you can sell this stuff when you find it in Florida. There's like only a certain auction. Yeah, where, I mean, who buys it? There's got to be a black market.
There's got to be... Does the Spanish people want a bank? Well, I'm sure, but I think when... Spaniards?
When you declare that you found it in Florida, I think there's only a certain auction for it, and it's through the government, it's like a government auction. And then that's how they get their money, because once it sells, then they take 20% of the proceeds. They just take 20. No, no, they take 20% of the treasure.
They don't want the money. They want the treasure for research and public display. Yeah. Oh, I guess it is a table thing, then.
Right. Oh, we got 100 coins? We get 20. Let me see what you got there, huh?
Let me see. Hey, I'm here to get a little piece of that. I wanted to check out that gold you found. Hey, you don't.
I need to get a little bit of that over here for me. But his last name is DeSantis. Oh, you know. Well, he sends a guy.
He doesn't go. He's got a guy? He doesn't, you know. No, don't give it to me.
I don't touch that. Give it to Vinny over here. Right. Whoa, whoa, whoa.
Whoa, man. I don't touch. Whoa, hey. Nothing touches me.
I would never take anything from you. All right. Vinny, go get my gold. However, my consigliere would like to speak to you.
That's right. My guy would like to have a chat. Wow. All right, it's week five of the NFL, gentlemen.
I know you're all terribly excited. All the trending news is sports-related for the next, what, eight months now or whatever else? I love it. There's no news.
Unless somebody got killed or somebody burned up, it's all football news. Well, it will be basketball soon, too. Well, unrelated, a retired quarterback did stab the shit out of somebody. Well, you probably didn't get this story yet.
I thought I read he got stabbed. No, no. Oh, that's right. No, he did.
That's right. Yeah, he got stabbed. That's right. I saw that story.
He attacked the guy. Still sport-related. That's what I'm saying. Yeah.
That's what made it funny for me. Oh. Right. All right.
Week five, the NFL delivered drama from coast to coast, shaking up the landscape and reminding everyone why every Sunday matters. The headline story, San Francisco's unbeaten streak is over. The NFC powerhouse went on the road and was handed its first loss of the season in a tightly contested battle that came down to the final minutes. A perfect season, not this year.
Who was that? Who'd you serve? Um, uh-oh. San Francisco.
Ah. The Niners. Okay. Their streak is over.
They got beat. Got it. Okay. All right.
Who did they lose to? I don't know. Okay. Over in the NFC East, Dallas made a loud statement their defense was relentless, forcing turnovers and setting the tone early, while the offense capitalized to turn the game into a blowout that left little doubt about their momentum.
They beat the Jets. They beat the Jets. They still won. My high school football team could beat the Jets right now.
Wait, what week are we talking about? This is week five. This is week five. That's current.
Last week was week four, so I assume this week was week five. Yeah. Dallas beat the Jets. This is one of those bi-weeks where they don't count it, and now this is week seven?
It was the Jets? Yeah. You guys were talking about last week that they were playing Dallas this week. Dallas beat the Jets.
Oh, I thought we were still on the Niners. No. No, no. We switched stories.
You got to keep up. You're merging it so much, like... That hat's probably tight on your head is what it is. I just, I'm listening, I'm like, where is he going?
Like, he just merged that whole thing in. It does look a little small. It was two different stories. There's even a space on here.
Want me to yell space or a new story? Yeah, next! Next! On Sunday night, Kansas City survived a nail-biter.
A furious comeback from the opponent forced the game down to a pressure-packed final field goal, which split the uprights and sealed a primetime thriller. Did you say Kansas City? Yes. Don't they play tonight?
Yeah, they haven't played yet. This says they played yesterday. No. That's what I'm talking about.
The Patriots. It said Kansas City. Jeez Louise. Look at me.
You gotta check your facts. This is where I was saying, I was like, what is he talking about? Now I gotta do the news for sports, and I've gotta check and make sure the news for sports is right. Nah.
Where are you going? Is that ChatGPT? Yeah, give me the week five rundown, don't mention any players' names. I.
Oh, wow. Players' names. First time I said no names, it even took the teams out. I'm like, I have no idea what you're talking about.
You know what? I'm not even going to mention. You know what? That's fine.
I'll keep the names out of it and then I'm going to mix up the team names for you. That's fantastic. Did Buffalo do well with the defense? That's the next time.
That was the primetime game. Yeah, it was last night. All right. Buffalo struggles continuing as their defense was gashed early, putting them in a hole they couldn't climb out of.
It's another tough loss for a team that began the season with lofty expectations. That's inaccurate. This has to be week four. No, that was their first loss.
Buffalo lost to New England. They were 4-0. last night. Now they're 4-1.
Buffalo hasn't been struggling with their defense. They've been kicking ass and taking names. Did Detroit play Baltimore? Did Detroit play Baltimore?
No, Baltimore played somebody else, but... Baltimore lost. They lost. Does it say they lost at least?
Maybe that part's right. I don't know. Their defense stepped up, locking down the opponent on the road and keeping them... So for inaccurate football news...
They played the Texans. Hi, I'm Palmer. Why don't you guys just talk about the football? The Texans mowed over the Ravens.
Yeah. Why don't you guys just talk about the football and I can take a break. No. No.
Now I... This is great, actually. Yeah, I think this is actually better for me. Is it better?
Yeah. And then there's New England. Where things went from bad to worse. Oh, really?
Another blowout loss, more offensive struggles, and mounting pressure as the season starts to slip away. As Josh Allen lost. Yes. All right.
As we close the book in week five, inaccuracies. First of all, New England's three and two. Yeah, no, no, he was saying that New England lost. They didn't lose.
I know, that's what I said, as Josh Allen lost. Yeah. New England looked great. Drake May was a stud.
Yeah. Do you know who Drake May is? What? Hi, do you know who Drake May is?
No, I don't know who Drake May is. He's the quarterback for the New England Patriots. Congratulations, Drake. Nice job.
Yeah, because when you're talking about the 49ers in the very beginning, they played the Rams and they won. Right. That's why I was like, what is he talking about? That was Thursday night.
Yeah, it was a great game because... It was a good game. Did they play again over the weekend by chance? No.
No, because Mac Jones played hurt, you know, pretty much the whole second half. Yeah, they were rubbing his arm and doing all that crazy stuff. Well, his knee. Oh, his arm, knee.
He came off the field with borderline vomiting. Well, what I loved at one point, yeah, after he was like vomiting almost. Yeah. He sat down on the bench, he ate like three bananas.
Really? if you watch like right after that after the bananas he was eating skittles and starburst and the girl was reporting she's like yeah she's like mac jones just ate um uh some type of protein uh stuff on the sideline i'm like what sugar he was up in sugar yeah he was eating fucking sugar and potassium yeah i saw a thing that said uh this morning i said stefan diggs hates the bills He's playing a lot of fun. He's playing a lot of fun. He's playing a lot of fun.
He's playing a lot of fun. He's playing a lot of fun. He's playing a lot of fun. He's playing a lot of fun.
He's playing a lot of fun. He's playing a lot of fun. He's playing a lot of fun. He's playing a lot of fun.
He's playing a lot of fun. He's playing a lot of fun. He's playing a lot of fun. He's playing a lot of fun.
He's playing a lot of fun. He's playing a lot of fun. He's playing a lot of fun. He's playing a lot of fun.
He's playing a lot of fun. He's playing a lot of fun. He's playing a lot of fun. The second half must have been fucking phenomenal.
It was. Yeah. It was incredible. I couldn't watch.
I ended up going to bed after the first half. Man, you missed out. Yeah. I woke up and I saw the score.
I was like, holy shit. I was like, it must have been good. Yeah, they looked good. Rabel looks like a great coach.
I can't believe... He is a good coach. Tennessee's a train wreck. Dumpster fire.
Oh, yeah. Cam Ward's not worth it. I don't like Cam Ward. He ignored my kid the entire preseason game.
I mean, I think Cam Ward's a good quarterback. I just don't think he's in a good system. Yeah. At all.
I mean, you know, let's look at Mac Jones. Right? Let's look at Mac Jones. Mac Jones was in New England and it just wasn't the right system for him.
You think so? Yeah, I mean, now he's at the Niners, which, you know, Shanahan over there has got a great, you know, system. And he can just plug and play anybody he wants. I don't think that's true.
You don't think so? I don't think that's true. I mean, remember last year when every running back got hurt on the 49ers? Yeah.
And they just kept putting in guys, like, and they were getting 50, 60 yards a game easily? Yeah, but they didn't win games. Well, I mean, yeah, I mean, I guess they weren't. C-Mac is a big factor there.
Oh, of course. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
So, I mean, you know, I think Kyle Shanahan's a good coach. But I think it's a better system for him over there. Maybe. Than New England was.
Okay. And I think Drake May is definitely the guy for New England. Yeah. For sure.
What do you think? What? Excuse me? Do you think Mac Jones is in a better system now, or?
No. He needs to go back to the other system. He needs to go back to the other system? Like, what system?
What are we smoking today into Patreon, Michael? Kind of binary system? What system? Yes, the binary system.
You know, Palmer, you should definitely get into sports today, because your game's on, and your wife's gonna be watching. Yeah, you gotta watch. Wait. They played already.
Yeah. Yeah, apparently. They played, and they suck. I got news for you, if Kansas City wins in a field goal and it splits the uprights right at the end, then we know that it's completely rigged.
Oh, it's set up. You reported it a day before it happened. I reported it a day early. Right.
Yeah. Are you guys done? Can I close this out? Yeah, what are we smoking with the Patreon?
Guys, we closed the book on week five inaccuracies. The NFC race is wide open after, did San Francisco lose? San Francisco? No, they won.
Oh, okay. Wide open after San Francisco won. Dallas and Detroit look sharper each week. Kansas City apparently is playing tonight, and Buffalo faces real questions.
Buffalo doesn't face real questions. They're four and one. I have no idea. With the season heated up, week six promises even more fireworks and more inaccuracies.
Fantastic. So, if you want to get your fake news about football from us, go right ahead and watch Cigars Podcast. We're known for our sports. We're known for our sports.
Did you show what we were smoking? I have not yet. I'm going to weigh it real quick before I take it out of the wrapper. Is the Mark Sanchez news thing a separate one?
8 grams. No, he didn't even pull that. No, I didn't pull that. You want to talk about Mark Sanchez trying to attack a truck driver?
I'm a little puzzled. I don't know if any other information has come out about this whole situation. So wait, did he attack somebody? Because I saw two stories.
There's one that didn't mention him by name, but showed his picture, and that one said that he stabbed somebody, and then I saw another one that said him by name that he stabbed somebody. Yes. I mean, somebody stabbed him. So supposedly, this is what happened.
He left the back of a restaurant, slurring his words, appearing to be inebriated, and he got in this guy's truck, and this guy was like emptying grease or something. And when he got in this truck, he got into the argument. The guy was like, get the hell out of my truck or whatever. And then they had an altercation.
Mark Sanchez started beating the crap out of this guy. So the guy stabbed him. And I saw images of the guy. The guy is jacked up.
Oh, really? So he like climbed in the front seat of somebody's pickup truck. Yeah, and this guy's like in his late 60s. Oh, the picture, he didn't look that old in the picture.
Oh, Sanchez? Yeah. He's not in his late 60s. No, no, he's talking about the other guy.
Oh, the guy that beat him up is. The grease guy. Oh, all right. Yeah.
I mean, the picture, they showed him in like a nice camel hair jacket and a scarf around his neck like he was just going in or out of the stadium. Well, he was supposed to the next night. He got, well, yeah, but I guess he got drunk at dinner and then came out and allegedly... What he is now is probably unemployed.
Oh, he's definitely unemployed. Right. Well, I haven't heard anything. I would assume that that's going to be the case.
Yeah, they're just... We saw two reports that the Bunny is not going to be doing the halftime show anymore. Bad Bunny. Bad Bunny, is that false too?
No, that can't be true. No, yeah, people were talking about it. I mean, I asked ChatGBT, but we have proven that it could be inaccurate. What's wrong with Bad Bunny doing the halftime?
There's been a lot of uproar of Bad Bunny doing it. He made comments about the guy that got shot a couple weeks ago, is what the story I read said. Well, he made some off-color comments about the guy, and now the network is pulled away from him. There was no factual on that, and then another one was that he made a comment how Americans need to learn more Spanish here, so that way, when they watch the Super Bowl, they'll understand.
I didn't see that in conjunction with they're not doing it anymore. But again, I think that was like a comment, like he was talking about a whole segment, and I think they just pulled that out and tried to demonize it. What's wrong with, you know, Americans learning more Spanish? I'm sure Spanish, we're American, we speak American.
Oh yeah, do you speak Comanche, or do you speak Seminole? I mean, first of all, my- They're getting their own day, it's next week. Oh Lord. Oh my goodness.
My daughter goes to public school, and kindergarten and first grade, they learn Spanish. Right. They don't learn it that well though. No, they weren't basic, they weren't numbers.
Agua. Yeah, they learn certain things. Hola. Can I go to the bathroom?
Can I go all the way? Right. Right. Backpack, backpack, backpack, backpack, backpack.
Do you know how to say can I go to the bathroom in Spanish? Man, I used to. Yeah? Because I used to have to ask all the time.
So now you're going to poop your pants? That's what a baño is. No, it's not just El Baño. That's bathroom.
I understand, but they'll figure it out. Can I go? Well, like they want, you know, like I just, I just want to know where it is, I don't, I don't need to. Like in China, I used to know how to say bathroom in Chinese, and that pretty much got me to a bathroom.
Oh, please God, tell us what it is. Got me to a place where there's a hole in the ground. Yeah, sometimes. Uh, for the Patreon we're doing, I can't even, this is gonna suck.
Use the other arm, Michael. Ouchie. We're gonna have this. It's too bright.
My arm. You hurt his arm. Um, move it a little bit, like, yep, right there. You know, twist the rotator cuff that hurts really well.
What is this called? It's the Blantons, Dipped, Blue Mountain Dipped Blantons, the Robusto. Alright, why are we doing this again? You mentioned last week you wanted to, I have no idea.
I said that? Yep. " I'm so retarded. Uh, because that Fugazi had a little bit of sweetness on the end.
Oh. We will make sure that we take that. " Right. But we took you literally.
We went and got it. Thanks so much. You're the best. All right.
PCA and Glenloop addressed the Texas law on Instagram, apparently. Oh. I saw the large Instagram thing. I didn't pay attention to it because I couldn't see it.
I didn't have my glasses. But I saw the Instagram live. Okay. You didn't have your glasses?
No. Sometimes I'm driving. Oh. Is that all you have?
Because I mean... Yeah, that's all I know. I mean, I know it happened, but I don't have any ideas. So, to my understanding, and I could be way off on this, but I think that I interpreted it right, what Glenn Loup said was wild.
I have no clue what you guys are talking about, just by the way. So, he made the comment that he spoke to somebody in Texas and, you know, oh, they understand, you know, that we kind of got wrapped up into the vape situation and that was what they were focusing on. And that, not to worry, they're not going to enforce it against cigars. Oh, this is the law that they made.
Okay. Yeah. Oh, with the no cartoons, no food. Right.
Yeah. All right. And Glenn Lupe is the lawyer guy. Yeah.
We met, we had, yeah, we had, is that, did we have pizza with him in New Orleans at night? Did we have pizza with him? We all went for pizza that one night with Skip and all them. Yeah.
Was that him that was there? No, no. That was a different lawyer. There was some, we had a pizza.
We had pizza night. No, that's the other guy. Yeah, that was the other guy. Okay.
I can't think of his name. I can see his face. I can't think of his name. He has the same birthday as me, though.
I can tell you that much. Oh. Yeah. He knew who I was.
Yeah. And, yeah. Damn, I can't remember his name. I can't either.
But. But if I heard it, I would know. But to say, hey, you know what? This law is going to continue to exist, but don't worry.
They won't enforce it. That's like saying, you know what? New rule, highway, 10 miles per hour. That's the speed limit.
Right. We're not going to go after the blue cars. Like, what? Right, yeah, you're taking that somebody's guaranteeing they're not going to go after you.
Yeah, how does that protect our cigar industry? That doesn't protect us at all. Murder's okay today. They said it was all right.
That's what they said? No, I mean, it's the same thing. It's a little more extreme, but... So, Glenn Lu...
I'm not drawing the connection there, but go ahead, please carry on. The law says you can't kill people. Right. But it's okay.
If you have on a blue hoodie, you can kill who you want. They're not going to enforce it to blue hoodies. ah same thing okay so glenn loop has now relayed information from the state saying that they will not the state will not enforce yeah the way that cigars but here's how i kind of interpreted it and it to me it looked like he went to go in to have a discussion with somebody and that guy just kind of poo-pooed him away yeah don't worry about it bro we're not gonna do anything you know like cigars and by the way you got one on you you know uh that's not protecting It's disappointing, in my opinion, the cigar rights of America. Yeah, if they come after us for our cheeseburger thing, we're gonna go.
Glenn said it was okay. No, no, I talked to Glenn. Glenn said we're good. He said you weren't gonna enforce it.
Who's Glenn? Right, exactly. I don't know a Glenn. Mr.
Loop with the bow tie, you know? Ah, fuck that guy. Okay, yeah, no. We're enforcing it.
He's in contempt. " Yeah, here's the fine. That's it. Right.
There's nothing changing in that rule. Did Glenn say who he spoke to? Probably. Oh.
But... It doesn't matter anyways. Yeah. I don't know what Matthew Tobacco's been saying, but I don't know.
Some of it sounds kind of accurate at this point. Yeah, I don't know who he is. If he's been expressing his discontent about the CAA and the PCA not doing things specifically. In the CRA.
Well, CRA is a CAA, no? No, no, it's two different things. Okay, whatever. There's another one too.
I don't remember the other one. When do they get together, they become Megatron, right? At some point. Yeah.
Like the Thundercats. They make the big cat. Thunder. It's insanity, man.
Thundercat, yo! Look, say what you want about the NRA, whether you're pro-gun or not pro-gun or whatever. Man, they're efficient. Yeah, clear and concise.
Can they help us? Well, here's the rule. The rule is there will be no rules. I don't, you know, like, I don't know what to tell you.
Right. They go after everything. That's true. Well, we got guys in charge that are saying, eh, don't worry about it.
What? Are you out of your mind? How much did we pay him to go have this meeting? Well, the problem with that whole situation, too, though, is if that is going to be the new standard of how business is done, then all laws are going to go against cigars.
Guaranteed. Because that's where you give them the first step. Right. I mean, look, Rocky Patel argued this before when S-Chip kind of came into play and the fact that we gave in and let them tax a particular amount, you know, 20 years ago.
Sure. He's like, no, it should be zero. Like, the minute that you let them do something, it's a problem. Right.
And he was right. He was 100% correct. Oh, that Rocky Patel. Look, I got to give the guy credit where credit's due.
I think that he did... I said he was good. I was giving him the... What he said was good.
Right. Do it one more time? Thank you. That was for you, Rocky.
Big fan of the show, I hear. He's a big fan. He loves listening. Loves the show.
Loves when we impersonate him. Oh, let's hear it. No, we can't. It's gotta be only when he's releasing a cigar.
Which hasn't happened in a while. All right, well, from the headlines to the world of premium cigars, Let's light things up with what's new in the industry. Oh, I hope it's a release from Rocky Patel. There's no Rocky Patel release.
Deadwood Sweet Jane Dia de los Muertos. I wonder how about that cigar got paid for this. That's their thing. They didn't.
We ask that every year. Returns for 2025. The Deadwood Sweet Jane Dia de los Muertos is back for a second year in a row. This week, Drew Estate started shipping the 2025 edition.
It's the same cigar as last year. A 6x50 box press Toro, but now comes in a new box. Well, I was excited. You guys have this upstairs, right?
Yes. Yeah, we just got it. We got it last again, just like everything else. The labels look cool.
Labels look cool? Yeah, they're all different colors. They're all different colors. I thought they were all different cigars.
Apparently, no, they're the same cigars. It's a different color band. They're like Pokemon. You got to catch them all.
Right. The blend remains undisclosed, but it's the same. But the line is known for its aromatic tobacco, a Maduro wrapper, and sweetened cap, It's a sweetened cap that gives off an infused aroma and flavor. Okay, the secret is it's pipe tobacco.
85 per cigar and sold in boxes of 20. The boxes come in five different colors: light blue, orange, pink, purple, and yellow. Each box includes cigars with five different colored bands: light blue, orange, pink, purple, and yellow. But cigars themselves are all the same as last year.
I don't know what it did to you to make us smoke this. Drew Estate co-founder Jonathan Drew has said he hopes smokers reflect on loved ones past and present while enjoying this cigar. What does that have to do with anything? Well, that's the day.
Oh, Day of the Dead. Yeah. Alright, sorry, Jonathan. I didn't understand that you were talking in JD because you didn't do your...
No, no, there's no actual quote from him, it's just he hopes when you smoke them, you think of your dead relatives. Ah. What a nice guy. This could actually be the third time this cigar has been released.
It first appeared in 2019. The Drew Estate hasn't confirmed at all. Versions share the same blend. Hmm.
They're all the same. The company is keeping production numbers under wraps, but it is a limited release. Hmm. It's unlimited.
Unlimited. Unlimited. It's unlimited. Unlimited.
Has anybody ever done, like, a cigar where, like you were talking about, Pokemon, gotta catch 'em all? Uh. There used to be a company that had little metal pieces on it. Like, it wasn't foundation, but it started with it.
Founders. And supposedly, if you got all the pieces, you could put them together. That's a complete lie. Made like a working gear.
I'm just telling you what the line was. Yeah, somebody told you that. They lied to you. Well, I had three or four of the different ones.
Did you? Yeah. Yeah, what'd you build? I didn't get all of them, so another.
A half a sprocket. Yeah, half a sprocket. That was Justin Andrews' idea. I'm sure it was.
It wasn't completed. That's it. Yeah. Mm.
Mm. Any other questions? Anybody? So, yeah.
Day of the Dead. Got it. Day of the Dead. Multiple bands.
Think about your dead relatives while you smoke them. Same cigars last year, but they have colored bands. Perfect. There you go.
Love the colors. How much? What was the? 85.
85. 85. It's not a bad price. All right.
Trinidad and Tommy Bahama Island Collection debuts this weekend. What? Oh, God. Can't wait.
And Tommy Bahama Island Collection debuts this weekend. So Tommy Bahama's now in cigars? This is not the first time they've made a cigar. Oh.
This weekend at the Tampa Cigar Bash in 2025. You know, I didn't hear anything about it happening until I saw Paul was there. Paul and Fred. There was a Tampa Cigar Bash?
Exactly. To the Hard Rock. It's at the Hard Rock. I knew it was coming.
I didn't know it was this weekend. Wow. It used to be a big deal. Failed marketing is what it is.
It's probably still a big deal, you know. It's only one company, though, isn't it? Well, but it used to be in a huge-ass parking lot over at that little convention center. Oh, yeah?
Oh, this was, like, by the pool and stuff from what I used to. Yeah, well, this was at the casino now. Oh, I thought it was always at the casino. No, there used to be a convention center over in Tampa where they took over the parking lot and it was there.
Outside? Yeah, tented and everything. Well, it's only one company, though, right? Uh, no.
The general? No. No? No.
Oh? No. One year, didn't you work with Rosales one year or something? I don't remember.
Or was that the other? No, that was the Heritage. That was the Heritage, I guess. Yeah, I did the Heritage one.
Oh, yeah, Rosales was there one year, Robert Holt was there. I mean, I got pictures of a lot of people one year. Southern Grove. Yeah, years ago, Florida Cigar Club, we commandeered part of the parking lot.
We met, like, 50 guys came from the thing. Got it. Yeah, because I saw, well, Paul had something about black label. He was smoking a black label yesterday on his patio.
He likes black label. And then Monte Cristo, that's not general? I need a full commitment from Paul. This can't happen anymore.
Oh, but then he smokes other brands? I'll have a talk with him. Yeah, if you could reach out. He's got to take the bands off.
Something, you know, and then just say that it's a Powstanie at least. It's an unbanded. This weekend at the Samba Cigar Bash 2025, Altidus USA will debut a new collection with Tommy Bahama, The Trinidad - Tommy Bahama Island Collection. It stores on Monday, October 6th.
J. Fernandez and come in three regular sizes: a Robusto, the Harbor, a 5x52, a Toro, Breeze, 6x54, and a 6x60. Marlin, yes. All come in boxes of 20.
Altidus says that the line blends heritage and craftsmanship with a relaxed island lifestyle. Accessories made with Island Lifestyle Importers are on their way too. Expect those later this year. Why call it Marlin?
Why do they go like Baby Beluga or something? Because Marlin is one of the Tommy Bahama lovers. I get it, but it's not, that's not, that doesn't feel like 660 to me. Is that the big catch, maybe?
Yeah. I don't know. You know what I mean? Like, give me something.
Like a Goliath Grouper or something? Yeah, a Goliath Grouper, yeah. Now you're talking. The Tampa Cigar Bash takes place October, or took place October 4th at Seminole Hard Rock in Tampa.
And it was amazing. Apparently, yes. Paul had a great time. I only saw pictures from Paul and Fred.
That's the only pictures. Actually, just Paul, but there was a picture of Fred. There was a picture of Fred? Yes, on Paul's feed.
I didn't see anybody else take pictures. I don't know if it was the old-fashioned trick-or-treat thing, where you're going around and everybody gives you a cigar, or if you're just hanging out, I have no idea. Didn't even see any industry people pictures. Well, we know there was two people there.
Yeah, you know, there's nobody else in the picture with Fred, he was sitting at the table by himself. Paul and Fred. Paul and Fred went. Ryan, I saw a picture of Ryan.
Ryan. Ryan who? Oh, Ryan from Altidus? Yeah, he comes in here all the time.
How did you see that? He's not allowed to have social media. Somebody had posted a picture. And he was in there.
I think it was Paul. I think Paul was posting a whole bunch of pictures. Paul posted a picture of Ryan? But it wasn't like, like you could see like the side of him.
Oh, not intentionally a picture of Ryan. Yeah, yeah. Wow, he's really looking. There's a blurry picture of Ryan in the background behind the pole.
Ooh, I saw you. Just glancing. All right, Padrón gets new German distributor. Yeah.
Oh. Oh. Tell me it's Mirafel. Please, yeah.
Tell me it's Mirafel. I was hoping it was too. Padrón is a new distributor in Germany. The company will now be represented by...
Mirafel. Mirafel International. No. MK & Son, run by brothers Daniel and Adam Kolaski.
Oh, they're Polish. Kolaski. No, there's no ski. K-O-H-L-H-A-S-E, Kolassi?
Oh, it's not a ski, though. Kolassi. No, no ski. The switch happened.
What? Nothing. The switch happened during the Interpac 2025 at the big international trade show in Dortmund last month. The Kolassi brothers say they're proud to continue their long-standing friendship with the Padrón family, and thanks to a large new shipment, they're all ready to meet the strong demand from German cigar lovers.
Who lost the distro? Does it say in the article? No. Let's say they're waiting on samples, George went to go get them some samples, never came back.
That's right. Oh, you guys want a cigar? Want some cigars? I'll be right back.
Fuck those guys. No waiting, George. It's only been four years. We're still waiting.
Any minute now. Any minute. Any minute. They're gonna mail them here.
Oh, you want a cigar? Cool. You guys want a cigar? Sure, I'll be right back.
Oliva, Year of the Horse. No, I totally skipped this one. Cop Tobaccos. No, no, you said skip Lure, not the leave of the year of the horse.
Yeah, I said I'll leave it to. No, you didn't. Yes, I did. No, you didn't.
Let me see here. I'm going to verify this. Okay, you verify. Podcast shit.
Oh. Yeah. Cop Tobaccos. I'm sorry.
I said I'll leave it to. No, you didn't. Yes, I did. We're doing this one.
It's funny. It was Cop Tobaccos, and the new company, the guy that owns it, used to work for Cop Tobaccos. Oh. Oh.
So one of the brothers. Yes. Broke off and leveled up. You know, we start our own.
I think the Russ. You come here. There you go. He will do it.
It'll be fun. Oh. George, get me a drink. Okay.
Oliva, Year of the Horse, they've used in Inter Tobac 2025. Oliva Cigar Company is celebrating the Chinese Year of the Horse with a new limited edition cigar. Oh, really? Unveiled at the Inter Tobac 2025.
S. wrapper over Niki Ragwin binder and filler. It's priced at 35 euros, about $41 per cigar, and limited to 2,000 boxes of 10. Oh.
, and in a quirky twist, Gurkha Cigars has filed an injunction claiming rights to terms like horse, year of the horse, and even horse head, And Whore, W-H-O-R-E, saying they've registered them for news. The dispute is ongoing. Allegedly. Allegedly.
I like the last one. They registered that? That was perfect. Well, it sounds like whores.
Maybe they had a typo and then put whore. I understand why you wanted to keep it now. Hey, I put a punchline at the end of this one. Put a punchline at the end of that story?
Shut up, we're leaving it alone. We're not cutting that one out. We're not cutting that one. All right, Casa 1910 names.
That guy from last week. That guy from last week. S. Sales Director.
S. Sales Director. This comes just days after that guy announced his departure from Quesada, where he served as national sales manager for two and a half years. Casa 1910 says Hector's leadership, I can't pronounce his last name.
Say it. It's not here. Oh. That's why he said Hector.
And experience will be key, not our Hector. It's a completely different Hector. Yeah. S.
market, meanwhile, Jeremy Fondy, who held the National Sales Director role earlier this year, is moving into product development and manufacturing, focusing on innovation and production. Really? Yes. Hmm.
Yeah. I think that's a better fit for Jeremy. Where did he come from, something like that, before this? No.
No. No, but he's always, Jeremy's a friend. He's always been. Yeah, he's had his foot in the industry.
Yeah, he's always been like around and kind of in, then he joined CASA and yeah, I mean, becoming the national sales manager is very difficult, right? Wouldn't you say Palmer? It's very difficult, a lot of time consuming. It's a lot of work.
And, you know, you have to, you have to post your own anniversary because they don't pay any attention to you. Congratulations. That was a cry for help. I told Greg a week ago, he goes, been that long?
I'm like, yeah, Greg, been that long. Yeah, congrats. Um, should I Would I have gotten you a cake or something? No.
Yay! Cake. No thank you. Yeah, I think that Jeremy would probably be a better fit as far as production and innovation.
What if this means he has to make more trips over to the… To Niki-Ragua? Yeah, to Niki-Ragua. Manufacturing, focusing on innovation, production, so… Yeah, I would assume so. He should probably live there.
I don't know if he should live there. Over the factory. That's a thing. People like to do that.
No, you don't have to. I mean, they don't have to, but, you know, I would. Dude, Esteli is not the funnest place to live. It's not the funnest place.
You adapt. You overcome. " Come on, let's have another meeting. I'm just sitting here at the hotel.
I'm wasting time. Yeah, you know, Greg was there last week. Oh man, I got texts about all kinds of things. Tons of things.
He's sitting there, bored. Downtime. He's got downtime. You know, we should all wear blue hats.
Hey, what's going on with this? I'm like, what's going on with this is, leave me alone. I'm in the thick of things here. All right, TenderBox owners launch Tradecraft cigars.
Oh, their own brand. Gary and Robert Blumthal, fourth and fifth generation cigar men and owners of the TenderBox International, are launching a new cigar brand called Tradecraft Cigars. The brand, We will debut next month and we'll have three core lines: the Gladius, a bold, full-bodied blend inspired by the Roman Empire; the Azorian, a medium-bodied cigar named after a daring CIA mission in 1974; and the Vitruvian, a mild-to-medium Connecticut blend designed for modern smokers. All are made by Tabla Calera, William Ventura in the Dominican Republic, the Gladius and Azorian launch on November 7th in Harvard, Pennsylvania, while the Venturian follows early next year.
Prices are expected to be $14 to $15 per cigar. When did they say $14? No. That's not really a big gap.
They're not sure yet. $14, maybe $15, carry the one. And a fourth line is already in development with Hostess Fernandez at Tabla Cara La Isla. Okay.
Tradecraft will be distributed through the Tinderbox Haverford with industry veteran Louie Love, leading sales. Who's Louie Love and I've never heard of him. I don't know. You don't know either?
Mr. Love? Mr. Love.
He's just a love machine. Apparently. Oh, shaggy. I like that.
Yeah. Tinderbox? Three different factors. So all these Tinderboxes we do business with are all owned by the same people?
Don't we do business with? They're franchised. Oh, is that what it is? Yeah.
But how many do we do business with? It's like three, I think. Is it three? I think you're being generous.
Well, I know there's at least two, so I added one more. I think there's at least two. I think there's two. There's two.
Yeah. It's wild, man. It is. Those names are terrible.
They are terrible names. Like, who thought of those names? S. Yeah.
They peaked in like 1994 or something. Oh. Yeah, it started, they started franchising in '65, after its founding in '28. Wow.
The Gladius. The Mahal. The Viturian. The Necromonger.
You know what we should do? Listen, name it after a CIA mission I heard about. Yeah. In 1974.
I thought that was the best one, to be honest. Yeah, have you ever heard of the CIA mission? No, but it doesn't, it doesn't correlate with the other two. That's the other issue.
Good point. The first one was opened by Edward Culpin. Culpin. Scissorhands?
In California. That's what they call him. Santa Monica, California. They called him Scissorhands.
No. Any person named Edward, you always call him Fast Eddie. That's the rule. It's Fast Eddie.
Fast Eddie Scissorhands? Fast Eddie. Well, that's where Lightweight Heavy's at, right? Still?
He's in Baltimore. At TenderBox, right? No. No, no.
Oh, he's not. He's at Capital. Oh, okay. Completely different type of box.
Totally different. Different box. All together. I went to one one time in, I think it was South Carolina, into the tinderbox.
How was that? How was your experience at tinderbox? Let's ask. It was all right.
I mean, it looked kind of weird because when you walk in, it had like this little cul-de-sac. It almost looked like a cul-de-sac, if you will. Okay. And it had all these different doors.
Yeah, it had like all these different doors and there were like different lounges. Oh, that's pretty cool. That sounds neat. There's like four chairs in each.
Okay. Like a private. Were they decorated differently, each one? Like this one, there's no pants.
This one, there's no shirt. Meet us in the jungle room. No pants, no shirt. Over there, you put a funny hat on.
That's where it's at. This one has a mirror on the ceiling. And no chairs. And no chairs.
No. Never mind. There wasn't very many cigar selections, though, in there. No.
Maybe there was another door. Well, you got to assume that they're probably more legacy brand is the nice term, right? Legacy brand. That's the word.
Yeah, it was in like a really nice part of Charlotte. Yeah. Like a mall, really nice mall. All right, moving on.
I'm sure that... Speaking of really nice malls, Habano SA confirms prison laborers are rolling Cuban cigars. Oh, in nice malls. In nice malls.
In a surprising development, Habano SA, the company responsible for the sales and marketing of Cuban cigars, has confirmed reports that some Cuban cigars are being rolled by prison laborers. Ooh. Ooh. Illegal.
Watch out for files and saws in the cigars. Illegal. Confirmation comes after a report from Prison Defenders, a Madrid-based human rights group focused on Cuba. The group says it received first-hand information about cigar rolling operation inside Quinvacan Prison on the western side of the island.
Okay. According to the report, two civilians and about 40 prisoners are making cigars. Why are the two civilians? Oh, they read the books.
No, they crack the whip. Easy. Oh, sorry. 50.
I think we would have more cigars if that was done more. Well, they only have so much tobacco. Okay, well, I have several questions for both of you at this point. I have more information.
Okay, go ahead. The prisoners who ever work 14 hours a day, so... 14 hours of rolling? 14 hours a day, yeah.
Nothing but time. Five days a week, $140,000, okay, and then 14 hours a day, six days a week, and earned 3,000 pesos, considerably less. Eight bucks. Eight dollars a week.
Each prisoner expected to roll between 50 and 130 cigars per day. Well, that's about on par, right? Is that a lot? 15 and how much?
150 to 300. 50 to 130. That's a big gap. Better than the 14, $15 thing.
Wait, you said 50 to 130? That's not a lot. That's not a lot. That's not a lot?
That's about everything. Prison defenders say the operation started within the past year and is not limited to just one location. All right, go ahead. Okay.
So, are you okay with prison people rolling cigars? Let me ask you that. Yeah. Yeah?
Why not? S. prisons? Yeah, license plates and stuff.
License plates and stuff? And they get paid like half a penny or something per plate? Yeah. Maybe, yeah.
I don't know what to pay out. What else are you going to do all day? Okay. Yeah.
Yeah, what else are you going to do all day? all day. What else are you going to do all day? It's Cuban prison.
I doubt they have TV. Listen, criminal. Here's your two choices. In the hole or you roll these cigars over here.
In the bright sunlight with the windows open. You make these behiques that we're going to sell for... If you roll more than 130, you can keep one. No way.
Smaller but taller. You think they're the only country that does this? No. Roll cigars or use prison labor?
Prison labor and rolling. No, everybody uses prison labor. Let me finish my statement. Rolling cigars as prison labor.
No. I don't think they're the only ones. Nah, and imagine the other countries that make cigars, you'd do it to. I would say that you're probably right.
Sure, right. They're probably the only ones that get singled out. Why did I get arrested? Because you make really good cigars, that's why.
Come with us. Come with us. Just drop a cocaine bag on there. What's that?
I'm like... Oh, God, it's no mine. And they just go through the factories. Those look good.
Cocaine. For 30 years. That looks good. That's what it means.
Oh my. " Oh man. Jesus. Yeah.
Yeah. This is... I would assume that this is going on everywhere. Why are they so upset?
I mean, this is easy labor. I mean, they're not digging holes are making what they used to do, make little rocks out of big rocks? I mean... I don't think that they're upset.
They're sitting at a table rolling tobacco. I don't think they're upset. It's not like they said, hey, I'm going to send an email to Charlie at Half Wheel and tell them to express my discontent. Well, somebody complained to some worldwide organization that found out they're making cigars.
Leave them alone! Was there a brand in this? I'm sorry? Cuban.
Well, it's just like every worldwide organization that's bored. You know what I mean? They go after whatever. Go to where they're beating the people and not feeding them and stuff.
These people are even getting paid. I'm sure what you just said probably happens there, too. Listen, let's make no mistake about this. Hold on one second.
I'm not saying it's good pay. This is a communist country, okay? So like, none of this, like, they don't do anything okay in this country, as far as I'm concerned, as far as Cuba goes. Except roll cigars with prisoners.
I'm just like, that's okay. You know, am I supposed to be shocked and like, oh my goodness, like, we should... Right, there's probably a group of guys that do the, make the little rocks out of the big rocks. Those are the guys that can't roll cigars.
You're outraged? You're outraged. Okay. We're gonna take you a while back just so you know.
Maybe we should be outraged about communist countries. I don't know. There's always a PETA for everything, bro. A PETA for everything.
I'm gonna send an email. All caps. Can you believe what they're making me do here? You're not gonna believe what we did to the murderer.
We made him roll cigars. Mr. Red Cross, come here. Come here, Mr.
Red Cross. What about all the other oppression that's going on in that country? They are making me roll cigars! You're not gonna believe this!
You're not gonna believe it! You're not gonna fucking believe it! Even worse, they fucking may smoke it! " Yeah.
I have a cousin, he's in prison in Cuba, he makes great Bahigues. I'd love to know whose labels are going on these though. Cubans! Okay, it doesn't say "Cuban" on the label.
No, but who cares, it's a Cuban brand! Yeah, it could be any Cuban brand. It's not like one cigar is different than the other cigar. Do you think they only supply to the ports?
This week, we make money at Cristo Tuz. No, I think that... Next week, we make Bajiques. I mean, realistically...
No, it doesn't work like that. I think realistically... And prison it might. I think realistically what happens is, a company has signed a deal with the prison, and has worked it out to make cigars, whether it's Trinidad or...
They bring them that pie with the money under it, and that's how they get the contract. You think it's... Yeah. I'm sorry.
Why is that funny? I just remember we had the story about it earlier. Why is that funny? No, the Shawshank Redemption, the warden...
Oh, with the pie. Yeah, I know. Yeah, yeah. That's what I mean.
So they bring the pie in. There's no money in Cuba. Nobody's putting money in an envelope. You don't think anybody's paying this guy so they can make their cigars?
No, I think that realistically... They just get awarded? " Yeah. So then they can go back to, this week, you make Monte Cristo's.
Next week, make Bejique. Same cigar, put different bandages. I guess you're right. Yeah.
We have big order for cigar bid. Yeah, we got to make cigar bid order. We got to get these Bejique Fugazis made. Come on.
Just get to work. Oh, my God. We're going to whip you. Oh, there it is again.
What? It's a Q, it's communist. I'm not going there. When you say, when you said that, when you said that, the only The only thing I can think of is the Adam Sandler goat thing.
I don't know what that means. You don't remember the goat skit? From the CD? Yeah.
From the DVD. He whipped me, man. You heard that? From the DVD.
All right, they estimate between 400 and 500 prisoners across multiple prisons, including a bunch of prisons we've never heard of before. Currently involved in cigar production, they also claim that many of the 60,000 people across Cuba may be part of what they describe It has forced labor in various industries. That's crazy. I never would have considered that going on in Cuba.
In a communist country? That's not happening. Oh my God. This is just in.
They're forcing them to make coffee and grow tobacco? This is crazy. There's going to be a sting. Even if you're not in prison, you're being forced to do something.
A communist country is good for everybody. It makes sense. Everything gets divided. Everybody gets a piece of the pie.
Everybody gets taken care of. Some parts of the port have even raised eyebrows. For example, it claims Cohiba Cigars, the most protigious brand from Cuba, are being rolled in prison. This is a prison prison.
There you go. There you go. There you go. So it is a bijique.
It is a bijique. Well, fake bijique. No, no, these are real. Legit.
Does it have the hologram on it? Oh yeah, it's got the hologram. You think they don't get those bands? Yeah, of course.
This isn't a knockoff business. They're selling legit cigars. Oh, okay. Rojibas are made at the El Laguito factory, though it's known that other factories do produce them, like those six prisons it listed earlier.
Right. Still using prison labor for the country's flagship brand would be a significant shift. And Shift, the report also mentions Maravey. The dry draw of this Cohiba tastes like prison Cuba.
As a brand, though in reality, Maravey is a Vitola size, not an active report rent. Oh. So they made a cigar called the Vitola. Called the Vitola?
Well, the Vitola is M-A-R-E-V-A, but they put that on the band like that was the brand name. Oh. Somebody fucked up. Man, I hate that.
What do you expect? It's in prison. It may refer to local-only line made for Cuban domestic sales. When asked for comment, Tabanos went, eh, go fuck yourself.
I'm not saying anything to you. The Goals provide inmates with professional training so they can integrate into the workforce after they're released. Oh, nice. All the prisoners are making the cigars.
Somebody's rolling them out. I mean, that's a valid point. That's a solid point. They're training them to have a job when they get out.
Right, it'd be one of the 60,000 forced to make cigars outside of the prison. To make the government more money. They say participation is voluntary, and prisoners receive incentives and benefits for their work. They also claim that production at these prison facilities is symbolic and held to the same quality control standards as factories.
However, the statement disputes key parts of the prison defenders report specifically the claim that this is forced labor. Prison defenders also ledges human rights abuses, including reports of prisoners being beaten by leaving production areas with loose tobacco. The organization has submitted its findings to the United Nations and the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights. However, we feel that a communist country is not being honest, so, big shocker, right?
They left with loose tobacco, so they stole, and then they got beat. Of course they stole. And that's a problem. Yeah.
Yeah, that is a problem. Oh, well. They're in prison. Now they're smoking them in their cells.
Yeah. The sons of... All right, that's a wrap on this week. Cigar industry headlines packed with new releases, strategic moves, and a few surprises along the way.
That was all of it? Well, we could talk about the lawsuit against California, but... Oh, that was a good one. The information on Half Wheel is very long and vague.
So let's get a picture here. That was awesome, too. Yeah, okay, so the PCA, the CRA, and somebody, Rocky Patel, Rocky Patel, they're all suing California, and the main point of the lawsuit is, what is a premium cigar? What is the definition of a premium cigar?
Well, it's also something about attacking the First Amendment, and something. Yeah, they threw the First Amendment in there. Yeah, there's a couple of things. But...
Isn't that the right to free speech? So, first of all, PCA tagged me in the story, so I reposted it. Oh, of course. I'm going to support.
I'm going to support. I'm going to slander you as well, but I'm going to support. Okay. The problem for me is that, you know, I read that half-wheel article.
Even though I don't normally get news, I actually did read that one. And what was kind of funny was it looked like Rocket Patel and some of these other brands sued first. Then the CAA jumped in, and then the PCA jumped in. Right.
I don't understand the purpose of that. Of them all jumping on? Yeah, yeah. Did you ever see the movie, Conan the Destroyer?
Yes. Okay, so he had that big demon thing that he had to beat. Snapped the horn. Yeah, he ripped the horn out of it.
Right. And then it was dead, and then after it was dead, one of the thief guy with the knives went up to him and stabbed it afterwards. Yeah, and he's like, ah. I feel like that's what's happening here with PCA.
That's what PCA. They're jumping in like, "And us too! " We have done it. After they, you know, so they make the lawsuit, they file the papers, you list who the plaintiffs are.
Right. And, you know, so, but did they write their name in after? Yeah. I, too, would like to.
And pencil? " And what was also weird was, Half Wheel highlighted the fact that Crown Heads on Tatuaje were not mentioned in the CRA lawsuit, even though they're affiliated with, like, why wouldn't they include them, too? I don't understand that, except these guys, that's like, what? No, that's not how this works.
Right, were we mentioned? We're very supportive. Yeah, I didn't hear, yeah. Well, they tagged you in it, they could at least mention this in the lawsuit.
Well, the PCA mentioned me, not the CRA. Oh, different, different A. Yeah, it's a totally different A. Totally different A.
Wild, man. I don't, I don't know, dude. Is it a class action suit or just a regular? They're saying, well, first they're saying it violates the First Amendment, which I don't get.
Yeah. No, it's freedom of speech, you're taking away the, yeah. Taking away the right to make a cigar? Well, because of the fact because you can no longer say that, you know, you get hints of cocoa or, you know, anything that expresses the flavor profiles because at that point it could be deemed flavored and that's not what it is, right?
Yeah. Yeah, it's the same, it's the same as always, what is a premium cigar and they're after something else and we got lopped in. Hmm. Yeah, I mean, like, at what point do you think that we actually get the rights that we deserve?
Right. That we are separate from flavored cigars. There is more than one thing. I don't even think.
Just cigars as a whole. No. I think that flavored cigars should be protected. I think that all of these things should be protected.
Right. You know. So why are they against flavored cigars because children will want to smoke a groovy blue cigar? Yeah, of course.
There's some kind of crazy logic behind all of it. There's no, there's, there's, there's no information showing that children are running around smoking cherry cigars. There is information that they were They're all drinking NyQuil and shit like that. So that's not bad.
And apparently, if you're pregnant, you shouldn't be having Tylenol at this point. There's that flying. It causes autism. Which, by the way, if you look at those TikToks, they're crazy.
Are they? Yeah. They're wild. I'm good.
I'll skip it. I'll skip it. Yeah, so I don't get it, dude. I'm glad that they're all suing, I guess.
Is it just one big lawsuit? Why didn't we get together and sue together off the jump? Yeah, obviously there's strength in numbers. Well, that's what we were talking about last week.
How much notice did they get that this law was coming? Now all of a sudden it's about to end, so now everybody's like, whoa, whoa, whoa, wait, are you really going to do this? Wait a second. When he was walking down the steps in Texas, remember?
The lawyer guy with the bow tie or whatever? Glenn Lupe? After he left the non-enforcement enforcement meeting. He got wind of it.
" That's crazy, man. You good over there? I had to send something to Boots. He has to read next.
So there still is no movement on that law. They're still going to enforce it. Well, we're showing them now. Apparently, it's happening, but it's not a big deal, which is insane.
It should be, no, you either exempt premium cigars from this statement or drop that law completely. Are they trying to get some type of injunction or something to postpone the enforcement of it? You know, here's the crazy part to me, is at this point you're going out vaping, and to be completely honest, vaping has already kind of dropped off. Yeah.
Yeah, it's slowing down. People have moved on to the pouches, and guess what? Good luck regulating that. How are you gonna tell somebody's sucking on a pouch of nicotine?
And who cares if they are? Yeah, they never ban dip or regular cigarettes. Yeah, I don't, I just don't. Oh, and dip is so gross.
Ugh, I don't get it. Like, there's, I bet you if, and I honestly don't know this fact or not, but I'm willing to bet that if you looked at the level of consumption for vaping, and you did a, like, if you, if you looked at it over the past 10 years you would see where it spiked and then you would see how it's been dropping off because there's no way that the consumers that there's so the vaping is at the same level that it was five years ago even definitely not 10 years ago right right because they found other alternatives why because it's been stricken down and already overregulated so what happens when something's overregulated they just move to something else well you can't do the I mean, in the areas where they were doing it, you can't do it in there anymore either. Right. I mean, you can't vape everywhere anymore.
Yeah, so they suck on pouches. But good luck stopping a guy that's going to vape real quick. That's not good luck. No one's jumping on that because it dissipates.
Right. Now, if they're, you know, back in the day when you would have these custom-built units where you would... Yeah, the battery from a car. Yeah, where you would bellow out...
Right, this giant cloud. That's like bigger than a fog machine of smoke, yeah, you know. However, they've toned that down. They've brought, and now they've gotten smaller.
Yeah, so they quickly pull it out of their pocket. Easily to conceal, yeah. Yeah, they hit it and it's gone. Right.
Yeah, and you're walking around like, what's that fucking bubblegum shit? Yeah, I mean. Why am I smelling tutti-futti? A lot of times, I mean, I, you know, when I see it, I, it does, it kind of irks me.
I'm like, I hate you. And I think it's part of me being jealous. I don't think that was the word you probably said. Probably not.
But, you know, Because I guess I would like to just smoke my cigar, and I'm definitely not permitted, and you just got away with it, I hate you, you know what I mean? Right. But yeah, I don't see it as much as I used to. No, you don't.
So, okay, keep pushing your agenda of your regulations on vape. There's always going to be something. Like, why though? I mean, eventually they'll find some reason not to pouch, and then they'll move on to something, it'll be injectables or something.
Until they shut down McDonald's, they're not really doing anything. And I'm going to be mad when you do, because I love my double quarter pound with cheese. Oh, they have the $8 Big Mac. You know, there's high, high fructose corn syrup in the, in the, oh, that's in the Big Mac.
You say quarter pound with cheese, right? Yeah. In the Big Mac. I saw this thing yesterday about all these chemicals, it's in the McDonald's.
Yeah. You know, it's delicious and I don't care. Oh, I know. Yeah.
First of all, if you think there's no chemicals in any of the food, it's completely wrong. Well, I'm sorry. The other part of the red only said McDonald's. Look at the cheese.
It's not real cheese. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, give me that artificial stuff, man. The cheaper the cheese, the better.
I like the cheap cheese. Give me that 40 cent. Oh, that's good. I'm in.
That's right. Stop it. Me and the dogs love that stuff. Chemically enhanced.
Doesn't melt. Perfect. Doesn't mold. I mean.
Right. Yeah. Amazing. So good.
So good. With a nice Stoke cigar. Yeah. Just wrap the cheese.
Yeah, like a Boyan's one. Good Stoke cigar. Yes, Fred, that's called Callback. Yeah, wait, wait, wait till we talk about candles later.
Oh, God. All right, Boots, I just sent you something to your phone. If you'd read the intro, please. All right.
Ladies and gentlemen, it's that time again, the moment the industry waits for each week. Grab your pens, place your bets, and get ready to flex those brains, because it's time for the industry's favorite game. What's the score? Here's your host, the man with the answers, and maybe a few surprises, Mike Palmer.
Thank you, thank you, thank you, Boots, appreciate that wonderful unrehearsed intro. Yeah, perfect. Alright, today's first cigar, it's from October 4th, 2025, reviewed by Charlie Minato, Aganorsa Leaf Cigars, Limited Edition, Nicaragua Reviews, Supreme Leaf, Gran Toro. A great fucking cigar.
Reviewed by Charlie. By Charlie. You want to go first? You want me to go first?
I'll go first. Okay. This is a great cigar. I would think it's got to be a 91.
Okay, you understand that you're trying to guess Charlie's score. Yes, but I'm going to go with 91 first. I would score it a 92. I'm going to listen to Charlie's descriptive California facts here that you're not allowed to say anymore.
86. 86-91. Yep. All right, it's a Supreme Leaf Grand Toro.
It's from Nicaragua. 50, release date was June 30th, 2025, and they smoked three cigars, They? Charlie, they mean Half Wheel. Okay.
I'm gonna stick at 91. 87. Oh, he went up. Clue number one.
Dun, dun, dun. The first thing I notice is that the band seems a bit high on the cigar. Beyond the band placement and newness... 37.
This looks like nearly every other Supreme Leaf I can recall. The wrapper has a pretty classic color with some minor discolorations and an above average amount of veins. Does the veins really affect the score? Apparently, Charlie likes to mention the veins.
He loves the veins. He loves the veins. He loves a good vein. Sticking a 91.
Sticking a 91. 88. Oh, he's slowly going up. Slow number two.
Based on the cold draws, I had some minor concerns about the chemical taste, but fortunately, there's none of that once each cigar is lit. Instead, it's a hearty profile with earthiness and wood leading some underlying raisin sweetness, leather, Oh boy, I'm sticking to 91, I mean, I just don't understand the taste of that. Leather, nuts, raisins, I'm not sure. No, you said nuttiness.
I don't think the dry draw affects it, but I'll go back to 87. Oh. If I were not, oh, clue number three. If I were not making notes, I'm unsure that I'd be able to tell much of a difference in the profiles between the first and second thirds.
The profile is probably about 90% the same. Earthiness leads over toastiness, pepper, and occasional amounts of sweetness. Oh, he loves the pepper. He loves the pepper.
91. 87. Final thoughts. At this point, I feel like the Supreme Leaf Blend is a notch or two stronger than I'd like.
If the nicotine buzz was limited to just the final third, I'd be good, but given the slow-burning nature, I spent more than an hour More than 15 minutes, feeling the buzz. Well, it would be difficult for me to add this to my hypothetical rotation. If I were a regular Padrón 1926 smoker who wanted to find a cigar that was a bit more wallet-friendly, this would be as good as any option that I can recall. Well, nothing really replicates Padrón's unique aging process and the flavors are similar.
The one major difference, at least with the Grand Toros I smoked, is that the draws were slightly tight, whereas most padrones are slightly loose. Then again, I suppose a limited nature would make it tougher for a regular rotation. Final score, gentlemen? 89.
Oh, he dropped. He just looked it up. No, I didn't look it up. He just looked it up.
He was on his phone. I saw him. That was not on my phone. I'm going to go...
Let's see. If I go 88, then he's totally screwed. Because if it's lower than that, I win. If I go 87, and it's an 88, then we both score, and it's a tie.
Nobody likes a tie. Nobody likes a tie. But if I get an 87, and I nail it, then I crushed. I'm gonna go 87.
90. Oh! Oh, Boots wins. Bing bong.
You jumped back over the score. Nice. That's a great cigar. It's a great value.
It's a great cigar. And it is consistent. That's what he was describing. And it's got some...
He said it was the same thing through and through. He said that it had a draw issue. There's... I don't think...
Well, wasn't it like a... a pointed in? I'm sorry. What?
On this... What year was that? This last one, right? That was the new one.
It just happened. Yeah, it was like a pointed M. Okay. Right?
Those usually have a tighter draw if you don't clip it all the way. Okay. I'm just telling you what he said. No, no, I know.
What he said is it tasted the same. From start to finish, it tasted the same. Then it got strong. He didn't like the strength, and he said that the draw sucked.
Made him dizzy. So for me, if that thing said Powstanie, it's a 45. You know what I mean? Yeah, I get what you're saying.
It sounded like he really wanted Padrón, and he didn't really want to smoke this one. " All right, next cigar, from April 8th, 2018, the reviewer is Patrick Lagrid, the cigar, limited edition, Roma Craft Tobac, Craft 2018. Oh, it's a fucking '95. We've never done a Roma Craft before.
Really? Yep. Wow. You're saying they've never done a Roma Craft?
No, no, they have. They've done a lot of them. Oh, we've never done a Roma. We have never had one on the game.
Well, this is going to be horrible for us because we're going to want to rate it higher. I'm going to go 90. And there's a weird thing. It's not under Roma Craft.
Like, if it was a Baca Cigar, it's in the B's. This was a Craft. It was in the C's. They don't list them as, like, Roma Craft, Baca Cigar.
J. Fernandez, Blah Blah Blah Cigar. And this is a great cigar, too. Anything they can do to slow exposure.
Right, exactly. It's all your propaganda. We're onto you, Half Wheel. Uh, 92.
Yeah, I want to say 95, but I can't see these guys. Do it. You want to say it? Just say it.
I'm gonna go 94. All right, this is a Craft 2018, a country of origin, Nicaragua, Factory, Fabrica de Tobacco, Nicasueño, Ecuador and Connecticut, Dark Candela, and Pennsylvania, Broadleaf, Binder, Ecuador, Habano, Lajero, Filler, Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, and Pennsylvania. It's a 5x60, Vitosa Figurado. Its release date was March 2018, and they made 2,000 boxes of 10 cigars.
They reviewed 3 cigars. 92. You stayed the same? Yeah.
Yeah, I stayed, 94. A single jet torch lighter makes quick work of the green foot, with the first puff slightly Candela-esque, by the way of some grassiness and a relatively mild profile, profile, though there are also an interesting tanginess reminiscent of Worcestershire sauce that can be found in the first few puffs. That was clue number one. 92.
94. Without much warning, some thick aloe sweetness emerges and does a very good job giving the Kraft 2018 immediate depth and complexity while also soothing some of the rougher dry spots. On the first sample, I smoked the ash Kyle Herklot Kirsteis built up quite well, and carried the cigar over the midway point before crashing down unceremoniously. So apparently the ash all fell off at one time.
It was unceremoniously. There were no trumpets. It just fell off. 93.
You came down? Yeah, one. 93, what are you at? 91.
The final inch and change. See, the combustion rate slowed down quite a bit. While also bringing back some of the strength the cigar exhibited earlier, though the pepper isn't quite as outright or forthcoming, the nub finishes just a bit hot as I get the burn line down to just below the candele stripe with the assistance of a draw poker, while the draw and smoke productions are both still very good. Must have been great if he's got a poker.
92. Ninety-two. Ninety-three. Final thought.
There's little doubt in my mind that the Craft 2018 will be a hit with fans of the brand, particularly those who gravitate towards the Neanderthals' profile and aren't afraid of some legero strength. But, beyond that, it's quite a good cigar that takes the palate on a true journey, balancing hearty strength and robust earthiness, as well as some rich sweetness It's a sweetness that appears all too infrequently for my liking. The construction is also fantastic, which only heaps on the compliments I have for this cigar. If anything, strength will be the thing that will keep some cigar smokers from enjoying this, as it does pack a decent punch, though only the first sample had me truly reeling.
If you can still find these and are comfortable with the strength and the cigar promises, the rewards should certainly be plentiful. I mean, nothing but good things. The rewards should be plentiful with the unceremonious ashing. Right.
I was definitely watching Robin Hood. Ninety-two. Sighs. Deep sigh.
This is the last clue? Yeah. The final thoughts? That was the final thought.
Yeah. Oh, God. That's why it was so lengthy and wordy. Yeah.
Because if I get this, I win. Yeah. Yeah. 91.
You win the day. 91. What did you say? 92.
87. Oh! He got an 80? 87.
Get the fuck out of here. But Boots won. I did win. But that's crazy that it was in the 80s.
I know. All that good stuff about the cigar. Eh, 87. That was a good one.
That's a good cigar. That's a good cigar. That was a good one because he loved it. The descriptions did not match.
This is great, except maybe the ashing really upsets me. He even used the poker. The unceremonious ashing. I've never heard him use a poker on any of the other ones.
Right. Wow. Burned down on the Candela line. I mean, that's pretty low on that cigar.
Yeah. How did we get there, dude? How did we get 87? See, that's how I think every week with these guys.
Well, this is back in 2018, you know, so maybe they don't have their skills built up to where It's built up to where they're at. That's probably like add space, subtract something, you know. There you go, right. How much adds, zero?
Okay. How many bad things did Skip say about us this week? Negative 12. Jesus.
All right, Shop of the Week. What you got? Underground cigars in Texas. Boom.
Mr. Don Wiggins. Welcome to the Postana family, sir. Welcome back.
Welcome back, yes. To the Postana family. Yes. We have missed you.
We have. All right, listener of the week. Who is it? La Ring from Zeno Cigars.
Boom! I talked to him on and off all weekend on his drive from Milwaukee to San Diego. Oh, really? At last check, he still wasn't there yet.
I'm sure he's not. It's a long drive. That's brutal. Oh, it's rough.
He sent me a data point. Oh, did he? Yeah. We were texting back and forth.
I was asking questions. He was just keeping busy. Overall half-wheel ratings in comparison to everybody else and how we crush and how we hang with the big boys and all these other things. I'm like, that was very nice, awesome for him to do, so yeah.
That was nice. Law, you're the man, bro. Real name is Larry Bob. Larry Bob?
His last name is Bob? No, no, it's Larry hyphen Bob is his real first name. Larry hyphen Bob? Larry Bob.
Larry Bob. I like Law. Yeah, I do too. It's cooler.
Yeah. Yeah. Well, he was in the military. They wanted to give him a cool name.
Right, exactly. And this is Larry. It's Larry. He didn't know who Rosales was.
Oh. That doesn't surprise me. No? I don't know.
I just think of Skip and Mike, you know, and like, maybe I'm completely wrong, like Fuente and George Padrón and, you know, at that. Oh, that level, huh? Yeah. At least.
No, I don't. Who? Fuente? What?
Who? No. " know that i'm like i have no idea about that i don't know anything i don't know a lot about that brand oh but the brand's been around for 30 years like okay like i guess you're right people who drop brands are like no there's a lot of that this is this i mean but i guess i know who the the guy is to be fair well you know law's just he's you know he's got his head down he's in the He's doing his thing. Yeah.
He's only had to sleep in the van twice. In the trailer once. He's underpaid. I don't know what it is.
I don't know what he's making. He's got to be underpaid. He's underpaid. He's got to be.
You know? If he ever gets fired, they better let him keep the van. He probably don't want it. Hey, we're going to part ways, but the van jeers.
I'm like, sweet. At this point, it probably smells like him. Yeah. Okay.
Perfect. All right. Anybody got anything else? Joe, you got anything else?
No, that's it. I'll be on Cigar Authority in the upcoming weekend, so stay tuned for that. Great, now I gotta watch. Who's number two?
They are. You want me to give you the picture of him going two and me one, and you can show it? You go, I found this picture. I found this odd image.
Very odd. What's this mean? Came up in my memories. Came up in my memories.
