ACHP Episode 394 – “Robotaxis, Rescue Missions & $50M Weddings

Episode Summary
Episode 394 of A Cigar Hustler's Podcast opens with hosts Mike Palmer, Mike (Step Up) and tech man "Mr. Boots" promoting an upcoming ticketed barbecue dinner in the Hustler Private Lounge with Skip Martin of RoMa Craft — a night that includes a RoMa sampler, private time with Skip, a live podcast taping, 15% off RoMa products and a pre-release War Bear cigar. The Patreon after-show pairs with the CAO Amazon Basin Dagger, a cigar the crew had to wait three years to get.
The news block runs through Tesla's Austin robotaxi launch and its messy first day (wrong-lane swerving, curb hopping, panic braking at police cars), a Disney Dream cruise rescue where a father jumped from deck four after his daughter fell overboard, and the roughly $50 million Jeff Bezos–Lauren Sánchez wedding in Venice, plus Lauren wiping her Instagram afterward. "Trending Sports" covers Jake Paul's unanimous-decision win over Julio César Chávez Jr. in Anaheim and the crew's skepticism about the economics of celebrity boxing, followed by a discussion of the Liver King's arrest after threatening Joe Rogan — where the guys notice an empty Plasencia Alma Fuerte box in his video backdrop and wonder why he never talks cigars.
Cigar News is the meat of the episode: Micallef's new shop-exclusive Micallef Blue and Micallef Red box-pressed Toros (6 1/2 x 54, boxes of 10, around $9, with president Dan Thompson quoted), the limited Supreme Leaf Gran Toro from Aganorsa Leaf (6 x 54 Nicaraguan puro, 3,000 boxes, refreshed purple-and-orange packaging for the line's 5th anniversary, $15.95), AJ Fernandez's New World Decenio marking ten years of New World (Mexican, Honduran and Nicaraguan tobacco, Robusto/Toro/Gordo at $12.50–$15, made at AJ's San Lotano factory), Crowned Heads' Las Calaveras 2025 with a Mexican San Andrés wrapper and Nicaraguan binder rolled at My Father Cigars, and Rocky Patel holding prices steady on most lines despite tariffs — with only the Drew Estate-made Java line seeing an increase. They also unpack the 21-city Traveling Cigar Roadshow featuring Altadis USA, CLE, Oliva and Rocky Patel, and debate whether it makes sense for retailers or consumers. Along the way the guys argue about vitola naming conventions ("Gran Toro" vs. just calling it a 54) and the state of the cigar market in what they call a recession.
"What's the Score?" returns with two Halfwheel reviews: the new Gold Star Robusto (Dominican, William Ventura factory, Ecuadorian Habano 2000 Intermedio wrapper, $12) reviewed by Patrick Lagreid — famous here for severe eye irritation despite creamy second-third flavor — and a 2003 Smoking Stogies review by Brooks Whittington of the Arturo Fuente Hemingway Classic Sun Grown, which scored a shockingly low 65. Boots takes the Gold Star round at 86, the hosts finish tied at a point and a half, and the episode closes with listener of the week Kent Meyers and shop of the week Old Allegheny Smoke Shop.

You're a very generous man. You just gotta look out for people. I just like to look out for people. Is that so wrong?
No, you're a very nice man. Okay. Nice man. Would you like to pick a name, Michael?
Indeed, I would. Aaron Cooper. Uh-oh. Moving on.
Don't ask questions, Boots. Just move, just go with it. Just go, just relax. I'm relaxing.
Just take it. Now you're ready. Let's roll into our first story. What about Patreon?
Wait, wait, time out. Yeah, hold on. Sorry, why are we smoking on the Patreon this week? Completely don't pass everything, Palmer here.
Yeah. Golly. Why are we smoking on the Patreon? For the Patreon, we are doing, how's that?
You got it covered with nuggets. Yep, perfect. We're doing the Amazon Basin Dagger. It was hard to get.
They have to wait three years for those. We had to wait three years for these. There's a lot of Amazon Basin tobacco inside. Apparently, there's extra now because they can make another whole 'nother cigar.
There's a whole 'nother batch coming. Do you want to smoke this right now? Well... It won't last through two shows.
You got something going? Yeah, I have something going, but it won't last the whole show though, right? No. Yeah, so I'll wait.
Okay. Do you want one? I already have one for the Patreon, I'm here. I'll smoke two.
Of course you will. That's fine. I mean, I want one. Yeah, you'll get one for the Patreon.
Okay, yeah. No, no, no, he doesn't get one now. That's it. You got your shot.
Okay, so, alright, so we're past that. Are we still doing the score thing? We're not doing that. Yeah, that's what's the score.
Yeah, you mentioned watery eyes. You didn't hear that? Oh, I didn't hear you say that. Yeah, but before we go any further.
Yes. It's the final week for the 4th of July tank tops for BDP. Oh my goodness, I almost forgot. com.
You should have wore the tank top. So make sure you check that out. I'm wearing the BDP shirt, which is still available. A bing bong.
Still available. And if you buy one, you get the second one 40% off. Ooh, still. Yeah.
com. We're going to have more shirts coming. Crazy ideas, I got to tell you. Come on.
We're having a lot of fun with this, I'm not going to lie. com. Be part of the swag. We love to see people representing.
So hook us up. Let's go. All right. Story number one.
This is an update from last week. Robotics gone wild. Let's head to Austin, Texas, where Tesla has started testing something called a robo-taxi. Oh, well, we talked about that last week, that there was a robo-taxi.
The robo-taxi is from Elon Musk. Yeah, it's like a pre-thing that we did last week. That means a car that drives itself with no human driver at all. Sounds cool, right?
Well, it didn't go quite as planned. Uh-oh, already problems. When does it go quite as planned? He smashed a fucking window.
It's Elon Musk. Yeah, he smashed a bulletproof window on a live stage with the Tesla Cybertruck. Oh, did he really? Oh, he was trying to show how strong it was?
He put his fist through it. Well, he's a robot. Start with, probably. You know?
He's like Data from Star Trek. I would expect nothing less than something to go wrong. All right, these robo-taxis are Tesla Model Y cars that have special software to help them drive on their own. 20, as we mentioned last week.
And someday he wants robo-taxis all over the country. But, here's the problem. Uh-oh. S.
Police cars doing some seriously bad driving. One car swerved into the wrong lane, where cars were coming toward it. That's normal. Another stopped super fast, and the person inside got thrown forward, and all of their stuff fell on the floor.
Oh, that's like a ride at Disney. There's even a video of a Tesla Robotaxi driving over a curb, and another where the car slammed on the brakes when it saw police cars. Oh, no, police. Oh, that's maybe normal in some places.
Not for robots. How does it get a ticket? Yeah, who gets the ticket? Who pays that?
Even though the police weren't over in his lane. Oh, so they were just like on the other side of the road. A group in Austin tracked self-driving car problems, and guess what? They already had to report a safety concern on day one of the test.
" Elon Musk still says, "Everything is going according to plan. It's all fine, people. " Nothing to see here. nothing to see here and that millions of teslas will be driving themselves by 2026 that sounds amazing but after seeing those videos maybe the robot cars need to go back to driving school before hitting the streets full time are you surprised that there was chaos with this on the first day you think there would have been some type of test before they rolled it out with people are you Don't you surprise?
No. I mean, everything has problems, but then we fix them and then we make it better. Yeah. Like, this doesn't surprise me.
You can prepare all you want for any type of experience until you go live, until you're in it. Like, that's when things go wrong. That's when mistakes are made and things get corrected. Now, should they have had anybody in the cars?
I don't know. Maybe, maybe not. Well, if they're gonna go live, they gotta put people in. Listen, if you died, you only paid four bucks.
What's the problem? Well, thank goodness, nobody died. Right. Yeah, just some curb jumping.
My favorite one is the one where it slowed down for police. Slammed on the brakes. Oh, police. Wait until people figure out how to transport drugs with this thing.
Oh, that's totally going to happen. They're going to throw it in the Tesla. I don't know if it's true or not, but I saw a thing where if you're transporting illegal substances in your automobile, If you put it in a box and seal it up like you're going to the post office, the police can't technically open your mail without a court order. Because it needs a warrant, right?
Yeah, but if a dog comes in and the dog smells something, they can open anything they want. Probably because. Oh, can they? Yeah.
Well, then I guess they would just detain you and call for the dogs. Yeah. Oh, you can't open this package. Yeah, it's US mail.
You can't open it. Well, the canine smells and I get to now open and now I have to detain you. That's how that works. What if you were to address it to yourself with a different return address?
Like, I just picked this up. I don't think any drug person would ever address it to themselves. Possession is 9/10 to the law. Yeah.
I mean, I don't know what's in this box. I just got it to the post office. It doesn't matter. It's in your possession.
Oh, my God. There's three kilos of cocaine in here. How in the world did that happen? Yeah, dude.
Come on. It's not my laptop. Like what? This is mine.
Laptop where you go with porn on your laptop? Yeah. I was going dark without actually saying it. You know what I mean?
Well, I thought I missed something. Tried to keep it G-rated, you know? This is not a G-rated show. I know, but still, you know, YouTube is sensitive about some things.
Oh, I just thought of something else to talk about on the Patreon. Okay. Alright, a hero dad on a Disney cruise. Yeah?
Hero dad. Now, let's go to the ocean where a scary moment turned into a hero story. On June 29th, the Disney Dream cruise ship was sailing back to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. It had just finished a fun four-day trip to the Bahamas, but there's a little girl somehow fell off the ship.
Oh boy. Wow. From the fourth deck, which is a few stories up, but without even thinking, her dad jumped in after her. That's right.
He dove straight into the ocean to try and save her. The ship's crew didn't waste a second. Over the loudspeaker, they called for a special code, Mr. M-O-B.
It's must be the man overboard. Yeah, Mr. Man Overboard, which must mean a man. I'm guessing.
Oh, maybe it stands for man overboard and it means emergency. The crew threw life rings into the water and quickly sent out a rescue boat. Thanks to their training and the fast action, they found the dad and the girl in just a few minutes. Nice.
Everyone was safe and back on the board and back on board. Soon after, one passenger wrote on Facebook, a girl fell from deck four and her dad went in after her. The rescue team was on it. It was a Immediately.
Even though ships like the Disney Dream have clear safety rails and special cameras to detect if someone falls, it's still a mystery how the girl went overboard. Does that surprise you that the father went out instantly after their kid? Uh, no. I mean, I would do it too if it was mine.
I mean, I'd do it if it was your kid. Right. But, I mean, there are probably some that wouldn't. Okay.
And what about you? Does it surprise you that the dad just instinctively jumped in after their kid? No, but what I'm thinking in my head is how pumped the crew was, because they've probably been training for this ever since they got hired. Yeah, that's true.
Okay, so where's the line? Let me ask you that. Where is the line for you to jump overboard? Let's say it's some kid you don't know.
Would you jump overboard? Oh, that's what you mean. I thought you meant like how high I meant. I thought you meant like if it's your kid, how many stories up to where you don't jump?
jump oh i dude it's 10 stories i'm jumping it doesn't matter yeah if it's your own case yeah we either die together you know right yeah uh i don't it might be a little different if it's somebody i don't know yeah you hold the line at someone you don't know it depends on the circumstances situation i mean you know and sometimes you get caught up in the moment you don't even think you just go yeah like there's a video circulating it looked like it was down One of the keys, a truck crashed under the side of what looks like the Seven Mile Bridge, and the truck was dangling off the side, the kid fell out in the car seat into the water, and some bystander just parked his car, ran, he didn't stop, he just ran and jumped off the rail. Right. But that's a little different, you know, you're not out to sea. Seven Mile Bridge isn't, you know, eight feet maybe off the water, if that.
That's a little different. And there was boats down there that immediately picked up him and the child. Hmm. What about you, Boots?
Cruise shipment of the ocean? Um, somebody else's child that I don't even know? Yeah. Hmm.
I don't know. It probably depends what time of day it is. What type of day it is? No, what time of day.
What time of day it is? If it's nighttime, no way. Yeah. That water's dark.
Well, you're not, you're not a boat guy anyways. Even though you're in the Navy, you're not a boat guy. Yeah, yeah, yeah. He would get Navy flashbacks about being on the boat, I can't go on the boat.
Yeah, you're terrified of the boats, regardless. So daytime maybe? Yeah, daytime. You probably can jump?
Yeah. I could see me jumping. Yeah? Yeah, without hesitation.
And I could see my wife losing her mind. " Like she could... Right, it's not our kid! " You know, that's the yin and the yang of things, right?
The organization and the chaos, I guess, to some degree. But I just wanted to know that this type of article is not helping, you know, the Shepon Kikevich family getting on a cruise any time soon. Still not going home. They just published the worst ships, too, did she pull that out?
The worst ships? The dirtiest ships. Oh, really? Yeah.
I saw the Netflix of the poop documentary. Oh, if you watch that, I just saw the commercial for it. I saw a highlight of it, and I'm like, we should watch this, and then we'll never get on a poop. I'll never get out of the book.
Was it a carnival cruise? I don't remember. Yeah, it was a carnival poop cruise. Yeah, those are nasty anyway.
Really? Allegedly. Allegedly. Carnival is the party cruise.
Is the party cruise? That's the cheap one that everybody can get on, so it's usually treated a little rougher. Right. Yeah, right.
And they have the adult type games where the other cruise ships really don't. What would these adult type games be, Palmer? They do like scavenger hunts and they'll do like, you know, first one who pulls a condom out of the purse or something like that. Oh, yeah.
Or first woman who's got a size triple D bra. Switch your partner type stuff. Is this like a heat check game or? It's sort of like a bingo type thing.
Yeah. I've been on several different cruise lines. No, not swinging cruises. No.
Are you sure? Palmer, you seem to know a lot about this. I've been on many cruises. You've been on many cruises?
If you're taking children, Disney's probably the one to do it. Yeah, I mean, I wouldn't take them on a swinging cruise, that's for sure. Well, no. But Disney has to be a The best child program.
Yeah. They have a whole deck, the no casino. Well, sexual assaults are up on these cruises, and now kids are jumping off. I don't know, man.
Yeah, I don't know how the kid fell off. I mean, you would have to try. Yeah, I'm glad the dad saved her. Well, I'm glad they were both fine.
It's a real dad. Yep. This is like the Tesla thing. Like, oh man, should we stop having cruise ships now because one child fell off?
No, well, that's the one guy shits their pants, we all wear diapers type scenario, yeah. One guy shits their pants, we all wear diapers. Oh, okay, oh, let's all wrap up. Well, everybody was fine.
Thanks to the crew and the dad, everybody. He's obviously a real dad anyways, he's going on a Disney cruise, you know what I mean? Like, it's not a carnival swingers cruise like you would go on with your kids. Right, okay.
So, he pwned up the dough, he paid top dollar. Yeah, he definitely paid top dollar. How are you doing on Switching? You're bringing the heat?
Oh, yeah. Okay. All right. Just checking.
It's all on Ginger. What? All the cameras just on Ginger. Everything's staring at Ginger.
All right. A $50 million wedding and a social media surprise. All right. Now it's time for some glamour.
Let's talk about a wedding that may be the fanciest of the year. On June 27th, Lauren Sanchez, a journalist and TV host, married Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon and one of the richest people in the world. Their wedding took place on a private island in Venice, Italy, and guess what? The guest list was packed with famous names: Oprah, Usher, Bill Gates, Carly Closs, I'm not sure who that is.
Anybody? I know one name that wasn't on there. Did he? Is that what you're gonna say?
Yeah. Well, he just, he just sat back and he couldn't attack. He's gotta walk out, he's gotta go scot-free first, so like, that's gotta happen, which will be... What was great is Jeff Bezos probably got a declined card for him.
Sorry, can't make it this year. I have a lot of stuff going on. Please give my regards here as a gift of baby oil. I'll see you at my party next year.
Take this lube. Well, the Kardashians did get invited, though. They did get invited? They did get invited.
They didn't get invited. That's a release. I was so concerned. 6 million.
What the hell does he care? That's called Friday for him. Yeah. Right, yeah.
That's probably walking around money. Yeah. That's enough to buy a castle or even a small town. Yeah.
But Lauren made even more headlines when she did something very unexpected. After the wedding, she deleted every single post on her Instagram account. She went dark? She just deleted everything.
She went zero dark 30? Hmm. And then she changed her name to Lauren Sanchez Bezos. Yeah, the other person was dead.
And posted two new photos. One of them showed her in her wedding dress, a beautiful fancy lace gown by Dolce & Cabana with a long train and high neck. " That sounds lovely. Some people say she wiped her account to start fresh with her new life.
Others think it was just part of the wedding magic. Whatever the reason, one thing is clear, Lauren and Jeff's wedding was huge, fancy, and full of surprises. And now, Mrs. Bezos is making sure everyone knows, it's a brand new chapter.
It's a new dawn, it's a new day, it's a new life. Oh, music. Would you like to choose another name, Michael? Oh, indeed I would.
I'm glad you were in charge of this. Is somebody writing these down? Oh, you have them. I have them, yeah.
I was like, nobody's writing these down. Richard Beard Jr. Oh. Nice.
Yep. All right, Boots, time for trending sports. Bing bong. Who are you on?
Palmer? Yes. Why are you on me every time? I just scratched my nose, too, so that's great.
My nose is very itchy today. All right. Hello, peoples. This is a long one.
Is it? It's not that long. It's three quarters of a page. Jake Paul tells booing crowd, shut up.
You can say that word on our show. That's okay. That's fine. No, I'm glad you X'd it.
That's nice. No problem. Well, he reads it the way I put it on the paper. No problem.
No matter what I put on the paper. After beating Julio Cesar Chavez, Jake Paul told a booing crowd to shut up after defeating former middleweight champions Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. by unanimous decision on Saturday night in Anaheim, California. All the boos are words and actually speaks louder than words, so y'all can shut up.
Paul said, man, we got to get this ink issue wired out here. In the post-match, interview while making taunting gestures to the crowd, I'm hip, I'm really hip, I just beat your boy, easy work, you're five, wait till I get going even more, mother, Paul, 12-1, 7 KOs, appeared to be taking the biggest risk of his unique boxing career by facing his most accomplished opponent, 39-year-old Chavez, 54-7-2. And in front of an ardently pro Chavez crowd in Southern California, this ink is really bad. You gotta practice your reading.
It's not the reading, trust me. I mean, look at this. I read it, you can see the sides, just pay attention. Why is it messed up again?
We just got new ink. It's a brand new thing, I don't know. Feel great, yes, we need a new printer. At least it seemed like a risk until Chavez stepped into a ring at Honda Center and looked lifeless, barely throwing a punch until late in the fourth round for the cruiserate bout.
Even with his famous father shouting furiously at ringside, Chavez fought tentatively and tepidly against Paul, who patiently controlled the ring and landed just enough to win rounds. Chavez first mounted a disgruntable attack in the sixth, and he delivered several exciting shots in the ninth, finally exhibiting the skills of a long boxing career. But he couldn't seriously damage the YouTuber turned pugilist, pugilist, pugilist, pugilist, who jumped on the ropes in the celebration after absorbing several flurries in the 10th and final round. The judges scored it 99-91, 98-92, and 97-93 for Paul.
The Associated Press also favored Paul 97-93. it was a two minute story that's not long okay so jake paul obviously won he obviously paid them all the story for some reason was that he swore at the audience okay i mean i can't believe people are you is anybody watching these stuff these things anymore well uh it was trending so somebody is well i didn't did you no no i know he's gonna win every one of them yeah he's paying these guys It's designed. It's designed. Allegedly.
Allegedly. Allegedly. Sorry. I don't follow him, but they did say, I don't know if he read it or not, because I can't understand him when he talks.
But the boxer didn't even really start trying until like the second or third round. Right. Right. Like it's designed where I think if the person wins, they don't get paid.
Oh. Allegedly. Allegedly. That's a conspiracy theory behind it all.
I have zero interest in any of these You don't watch these First of all, Chavez is a great boxer This guy would Plummel Jake Paul Yeah, he took a paycheck Did the Tyson fight ever happen? Yeah, it happened And Tyson started to hit him And it looked like he got in He was like, what are you doing? Oh, yeah You gotta ease up This isn't real And then all of a sudden, you know, Tyson's kind of biting his glove or whatever. We talked about this years ago.
Yeah, I don't know, man. It's not, it's amazing that, kudos to the guy for getting the exposure and getting paid the way that he does. I mean, that's fantastic for him. I can't believe that our society still buys into it.
And then he was a complete ass to Pierce Morgan. He was on Pierce's show. Oh, the talk show guy. Yeah.
And he's like, "I'm just trying to get your viewers to watch my pay-per-view dumbass," or something, and then just hangs up on him. Oh, it was a phone call. It was like a Zoom thing, yeah. And I'm like, "Damn, dude.
" Guy's a jerk. Yeah. Hmm. Very tacky.
Yeah. Terrible. Let's ban him. Nobody watch him anymore.
It's sad that everybody does want to watch him. I don't get it. I just don't get it. I wonder how much the pay-per-view made.
I assume it was pay-per-view. You don't have the details? No, it wasn't part of the story. There was no money mentioned.
I'm sure it was a lot. I'll look it up for you. No, that's okay, let's move on. I want to know because we can take a little bit of time here.
I don't think this guy does anything for little amounts of money. Well, no, why? I mean, if you get paid, get paid. Right.
So he'll keep doing it as long as people are watching. I'm sure it was over 50 million dollars. Let's see. I asked Kroc.
It doesn't say. There are no specific figures available for the pay-per-view revenue or buy numbers for this event in the provided data or general web information. Unlike his previous fights, such as the one against Tommy Fury, which reportedly generated around 800,000 pay-per-view buys, or the Nate Diaz fight with approximately 450,000 buys, no concrete data has been released for the Paul versus Chavez Jr. event.
Jay Paul also claimed to have generated $250 million in pay-per-view revenue across his boxing career up to December 2023. So... Maybe it's down as when they're not releasing it. " Maybe it's just entertaining.
I don't know. Yeah, he's like toting that line between WWE and... Right. Yeah.
And real boxing. I don't think he's towing the line. I don't think he's there. I think he's there.
But, like, these people are kind of, like, selling their souls for this, like, you know. Right. Well, to be honest, most of these boxers that are boxing against them in these things, they don't make this type of money on their pay-per-views. Yeah, not even close.
Right. So, I mean, one pay-per-view with him is their whole boxing career. You said Chavez hasn't done anything since 23. No, I was saying Jake Paul.
That was what he reported on the pay-per-views. Oh, I thought you said Chavez's pay-per-views up till 2023. No, Jake Pauls. Oh, okay, gotcha.
So, I don't know. I mean, that means that I think that boxing in itself probably needs to be restructured completely. Yeah. Where these boxes get- Is this a sanctioned boxing match?
Yeah, he's figured this out. Oh. He's figured out the loopholes or whatever the case may be. Yeah.
It's sad, dude. It's crazy. It is. So, you know, so, yeah, I think that this needs to be fixed.
This is why boxing has gone down the tubes for so many years. Hoots is already tired. I've been tired. It's 25 minutes in.
All right, Michael, let's hear about this Liver King thing that's going on. So have you seen any of this? Yes, I have. I started to pull the story, then you texted that you were going to talk about it.
Okay, so Liver King has gone off the reservation at this point. Yes. " Who is the Liver King? You know who Liver King is?
He's this dude that was originally eating liver and calling himself a primal one. He eats all meat. And he believes that all you have to do is eat meat, but then it leaked out that he was taking like $10,000, allegedly $10,000 a month in steroids and stuff to make him as big as he was. Oh, wow.
Yeah, so he went out and made this claim that he wanted to fight Joe Rogan. Yes, he started making videos. They both live in Austin. Do they both live in Austin?
That's what the story said that I read. I thought that he drove down from somewhere else. Oh, he said they both lived in Austin. Joe Rogan would wreck this guy.
Oh, dude. Well, he mentioned that part, you know, "Hey, I want to fight you. I know you're going to kick my ass. " But, where does a liver king live?
We will grok and find out. In a cave far, far away. He does live in Austin, Texas. Oh, look at that.
Look at you. Look at that, I read. You're so smart. So, cause he was, there was a video of him driving, he goes, "We're driving to go meet, find Rogan," or something like that.
Well, supposedly in some of the videos he had AK-47s too. Oh, really? Yes. So Joe Rogan filed a complaint, he considered it a credible threat.
Yeah. So they arrested Leverking. They did. Yes.
And they gave him a... He's out on bail and he made a video about being arrested. What an idiot. Why would you admit that you have AK-47?
He's got an ankle monitor. It's in the video. It's not like he admitted. He had him in each arm.
Have you watched some of his videos? No. I've seen him on TikTok, but not lately. Yeah.
He sort of has died off. Maybe this is a way of trying to resurge his image or something. His image or something. His brand.
His brand. He still has millions of followers. Or maybe he was on Math or something, because like... I don't know.
He's like a wild, what's that one guy that has all the guns and the girls and all that stuff. Yeah, the liver queen or whatever supposedly works out to it but doesn't eat as much meat or something. I forget that one guy. I don't know.
But he sort of died off. Yeah. Well, after the whole $10,000 a month steroid thing. Right.
So how do you come back? So he's one of the most famous guys, and he's local, and then you challenge him on social media. So now everybody's talking about Liver King again. So I started watching some of his videos to see where he went crazy.
Right. I gave up after about like the six or seven video, I'm like, okay, this guy's been crazy for a while. However, I did notice in one of the videos, he's got a big humidor in the background. Oh, he's a cigar guy.
Yeah. Oh, does he post on your cigars? I didn't see Polsonia, but I did see the Placencia Alma Fuerte box. Oh.
Yeah, and it was totally empty. A distinguishable box? What? It's a very distinguishable box.
It is. There are some other boxes too, but I don't know what they were. He's obviously not clipping anymore. I don't know who's in all.
Oh, no, no. Well, I've been on you. You've been talking most of the time. Okay.
Dan Blitzerin. Like a Dan Blitzerin. He's just a wild Dan Blitzerin. I don't know who that is.
I don't know who that is either. Oh. Yeah. I'm like, oh, he's a cigar guy.
I don't think he's ever talked about smoking cigars. No, I don't recall ever seeing him smoke a cigar on any of his videos. He's too busy eating all the time. Eating his meat.
Meat, and bone marrow, and testicles, and I mean anything you could think of that's-- Testicles? He eats balls? Yes. He does eat balls.
Yes. He does eat vegetables too though now. I think I've seen him eat like a raw potato or something. Everything's raw.
It doesn't cook anything. Right. Do you think that he tried to go on Rogan's show, like, "Hey, I want to talk to you"? Oh, I'm sure.
Or hoped that this controversy would get him on Rogan's show, one or the other. Maybe he requested, and they're like, "No, fuck you. You're crazy. " And he's going to go away.
He just went straight to the death wish. Right. But I mean, look, it worked. You watched six of his videos you wouldn't have watched.
Yeah, it's true. I did watch them. I wanted to see if I could see... So other people now are looking and going, "This guy's crazy.
" See where he fell off, but I realized... Now he's famous again. I realized that I couldn't... I didn't have that kind of time.
Right. But I did see the cigars. I was like, "Ooh, a cigar! " Now this will die off and it'll challenge somebody else.
Why don't we talk about the cigars, Liver King? Yeah, if you want to come on this show. You're smoking the Alba Fuere days. Right, we'll have you on this show.
You can fight him. No, I don't want to fight. You don't want to fight Liver King? I'm a lover, not a fighter.
Very passionate. Think how famous we'd be. If I fought Liver King? Right.
I'd be the corner guy. Boots would be the guy with the bucket that you spit in. Yeah. Oh, I'd spit in boots?
His bucket. The bucket and the bucket. You know, he carries the bottle, squirts the water in your mouth, you turn and you spit it in the bucket. Come on, champ.
I've seen boxing movies. That's what they do. Yeah. Boxing movies.
Yeah, I'm the guy that yells a direction to you from the side. Yeah. And then I rub his head when it goes really well. Like in Rocky.
Just real quick, is that the only boxing movie you've seen as Rocky? Uh, yes. No, no, no, no, Wolverine and the Robot. Wolverine and the Robot?
The actor, not actually. Oh, you're talking about, yeah, the, yeah, where he, yeah, where the robots, uh, yeah, where the robot mimics him on the side. I've seen that one too. So you've seen Rock 'em Sock 'em Bots?
Yes. Got it. And there's some old movie that Ricky Schroeder was in where his father died or got beat up or something. That's an old movie.
Okay. I was just thinking that he should talk about cigars. That's all I'm saying. No, that was my point.
God, yeah, well, he should. He does all these other things. He should eat them. He does all these other things.
Why don't we talk about the cigars? Don't know. That's my point. All right, moving on.
Moving on. All right, folks, it's that time again. Welcome to Cigar News, where we break down what's new, what's hot, and what's hitting humidors around the world. From the fresh releases and the rare finds to factory updates and limited editions, if it rolls, burns, and smokes, we're gonna talk about it, so grab your cutter, spark that stick, and let's dive into the smoke-filled headlines.
Nice. This is the Cigar News. Okay. Jeez Louise.
Joe, trying different things. Relax. I liked it. All right, McAuliffe's blue and red cigars hit the shelves.
If you like cigars, then listen up. McAuliffe's... McAuliffe Cigars just dropped two new smokes, and they're looking pretty cool. Blue and red.
Gotta stop letting Chetchy be taking its own opinion. I thought they had blue and red already. Yeah. This is special soft packs.
They're called the McAuliffe Blue and the McAuliffe Red. These are box-pressed Toro cigars. It's a special cigar. New size?
Yes. Which means they're kind of squared off instead of round. They feel neat in your hand and come in shiny new boxes of 10 cigars. The difference of ten cigars.
Both are six and a half inches long and have a ring gauge of 54. That's a pretty big cigar. Hmm. Six by 54?
Six and a half by 54. That's a Toro. It says that's a pretty big cigar. Well, it says here.
I don't know. All right, get off the chat, GPT, bro. You gotta bail on us. Well, it's a combo of our regular supplier of our news stories and chat, GPT.
So it makes it more ours, less theirs. Maybe go back to the regular news supplier and just give them their credit. Give them their flowers. The blue cigar has a Mexican San Andreas wrapper with a mix of tobaccos from Ecuador, the Dominican Republic, and Nicaragua.
Inside is meant to taste rich, smooth, and balanced. Rich, smooth, and balanced? Yes. Is it?
That's what ChatTBT came up with? No, that must be from, have we? There's no way. I don't know.
It's rich, smooth, and balanced. The red cigar also uses Mexican leaf, but this one is a bit bolder. It mixes tobaccos from Mexico, Nicaragua, and even Pennsylvania. Everywhere.
So it's got some extra kick. These two cigars were made just for smoking, which means you can't find them anywhere but smoking. McAuliffe's president, Dan Thompson, said he's excited. People are loving the blend and happy to work with the team at smoking again.
Was that the guy that sent us the link to the YouTube thing with the pylon room? I think so. I think it was Dan Thompson. Yes.
Yeah. Holy moly. It's the president of the company. Look at that.
Look at that. We didn't know that. I just came out with these new cigars. Great.
Great for you, Dan. Did Dan not watch the video before he decided to tell us about it? Probably not. But he knows.
All right. Anybody want to guess the price? Okay. Of the red and blue?
The red and blue. Sure. Okay. Are they in sealed packs?
Is that what you're saying they were? Like five packs? Yeah, it's a little 10 pack. It's a 10 pack.
He said a 10 box. They come with shiny new boxes. Shiny new boxes. Am I guessing the price of individual stick or per box?
I have the individual price. You have the individual price. Yes. Okay.
Boots, you want to go first or you want me to go? I'll go. Okay, you go. It's a McAuliffe, nine bucks.
50. Nine bucks, you got it right on the head. Damn! Did you read that article?
No, but I just thought it was cheaper. He's read the articles. He will not lose at half wheels. Guess the score.
He refuses to. Well, he can only get one of them because there's one current and then one old. There's no way you can pick out the old ones. Okay.
I've never even looked at half of them ever, except for when you guys posted about Pustano. Nine bucks. Nine dollars. Just belt it.
Wow. All right. Supreme Leaf Grand Toro. Oh.
Arrives with a new look. Next up, cigar news. Get ready for a big and bold cigar called the Supreme Leaf Grand Toro. It's the newest cigar from Arganosa Leaf, and it's the thickest that they've ever made.
So this is the purple with the yellow. Yeah, this is the purple and orange. This is Ginger's favorite. Yes.
So, you said a new look, though. Yeah. Is it just the size of the cigar? Yes, it's a Gran Toro.
It's a bigger Toro. He's gonna get into it right now. The cigar is six inches long with a ring size of 56, so it's chunky. It's called the Gran Toro, and it's packed with tobacco that comes 100% from Nicaragua.
That's called a Puro, when all the leaves are from the same country. With a Chad GPT, he acts like we're idiots. It's also a limited edition, which means they're only making 3,000 boxes, and each box has 10 cigars, so if you want one, don't wait too long, here's something cool, the Gran Toro also has new packaging. Oh, really?
It still keeps the orange and purple colors that the fans love, but the box and band got a sleek update to celebrate Supreme Leaf's fifth birthday. So they've been making this cigar for five years. It's only been five, it's felt like 10 years. Yeah, forever.
Forever. The company says this cigar was made to look and taste special and it cost, anybody, anybody? $16. Supreme Leaf?
Yeah. Supreme Leaf Grand Toro. No, it's got to be more than that. That's a big cigar.
What is it? And they charge a lot on that. What's your guess? Let's go $18.
95. Hey. I was right there. Nice.
You were very, very close. $16. You must have read this clipping. I don't know how to read.
If you like the Supreme Leaf line, this one might be worth it. So light up and celebrate, because the Grand Toro is bringing the party to your human door. Bring it. Oh, dude, you need to just not do this.
J. Fernandez celebrates 10 years with a new world decenio. You are blasting through these news articles so fast. It's a three-minute read.
So fast. Now let's talk on someone who's been in the cigar game a long time, AJ Fernandez. Maybe ask a question or let us roll into it a little bit. Well, you're supposed to be asking a question when I get to read.
T. " All right, you want to talk about the Gran Toro? We're so excited for its rich and smoothness. Actually, I have a question.
I have a question about the Gran Toro. All right, good, good. What's the question? Okay.
So, tell me the size of it one more time. Six by 54. It's a Gran Toro. 6x54?
It's a chunky little Toro. So what makes it a Grand Toro is it's just a little bit longer. It's fatter. A normal Toro is a 52.
There you go. Is it? Yes. 6x52 is a standard sized Toro.
Yeah. Yeah. So it's a 6x54. So I was going to ask if you would smoke this, but of course you would because it's just a little bit bigger than a regular Toro.
It's an LE. It hasn't come out yet. Yeah, it hasn't come out yet. 3,000 boxes.
No, I'm saying, would you smoke it? Would I smoke it? Yeah, we'll probably Patreon that pig. Terrence is down in Nicaragua right now, probably getting them.
I love the fact that we went after Terrence with our jokes and our short clips, and he just didn't engage. Nothing. He knew better. I go after him almost daily.
Do you? Him and his khaki pants. Yeah. Oh, there's Palmer with his...
"The khaki pants story. " So are you excited about this size, Boots? I mean, I think the sizers are kind of silly, to be honest. Yeah?
Yeah. I actually kind of, I mean, I do like what Skip does, I mean, Sokka does it as well. I think the names... Covering his ass.
He likes what those two do. No, I think the names need to change. Because when you say a Toro or a Grand Toro, to me, a Grand Toro would be something that would be longer. I don't know.
Just in my head. That's called a Churchill. Right. Seven inches.
I'm just saying. So, they're making a six, which is a Toro size, and 54 makes it grand. Right. I don't...
Like, Sinise Fina has a grand box press Robusto. Yeah, I don't know. It's a little fat Robusto. It's bigger around.
See, in cigars, when it's bigger around, you get to call it Grand. Or just call it a 54. They did, they said it's a 6x54. Everything's gotta have a name.
That's what makes it special. Otherwise, we're all just selling cigars. Hey man, let me get the Supreme Leaf, the new 54. Okay, so we're coming out with a bigger War Bear at Christmas, and we're calling it the War Bear of Mass Destruction.
The grand perfecto. Yeah. You want us to just call it the big perfecto? Huh?
No, what's the ring gauge? What's the ring gauge, Mike? It's a six and a quarter by 56, I think? He's the national sales manager and he doesn't fucking know.
I got so close. Six and a quarter by... It must be a 60. It is a six and a...
Did I get six and a quarter right, didn't I? No. Is it a 60? Yes.
So why don't you just call it the new 60? Because you... Who wants to call it by a number? This guy's in charge.
You want to call it by the number? You want to call it by the number? This guy's in charge. You know what, Connor?
I'm surprised you didn't ask ChatGPT what the new size of the new Warbear was. I don't have it handy right here. My phone's over there. Well, Michael, the new Warbear, the beautiful size, is the new delicious, balanced...
Why are you trying to turn this around to me? You want us to call everything by the number. No, I know. I think it should be the number.
I like that he's attacking you now. Well, it's because you're trying to deflect. No, I wasn't trying to attack. " I would like the 42-inch upper cabinets, yeah.
" I bet you the Gran Toro cabinets would sell better than the 42 inches. I would like the Gran Toro cabinets. Well, we can give you the premium Gran Toro ones, or you could take the standard 42 inches. Give me the Gran Toros.
I don't know. Right, I'd like the Gran Toros. That sounds great. Or the 42, or the 54.
Either one. Yeah, it's insane. Oh, now we're shutting down. I'm not shutting down.
So are you excited about the size, or are you gonna smoke the cigar now? Of the, which one? The Supreme Leaf, 6x54. The 54?
I mean, yeah. Are you gonna smoke the 54? Why the hell is my nose so itchy today? It's basically a Toro.
So the Gran Toro? Yeah. It's a Gran Toro. So you will buy it?
I would buy it. And you would smoke it? I would smoke it. Would you smoke it in front of Ginger and be like, this is great, and not let him partake?
No, I would get him a cigar too. You'd get him one too? Yeah. All right, just checking.
He's very nice that way, huh? Yeah, very nice. He used to buy us stuff. Palmer, would you...
I don't like their cigars. You don't like Argonosa? I'm not a bit... The Supreme Leaf?
The Supreme Leaf is the best cigar out of the whole... The Supreme Leaf, I agree. Well, yes, it's a Supreme one. The Supreme Leaf is the best Aga Norse that they make.
That's why it's called Supreme. Right. I can only smoke their cigars if Terrence is here. So you need him around all the time.
If I'm going to smoke his stuff, yes, I need him around. You need Terrence present. Yes. Their tobacco is not bad.
They have some of the best tobacco in the industry. I find it to be a little bitter. I don't know why. I just don't.
Just all their tobacco in general? Yeah, I'm just not a fan. Not the personal Terrence. You're a wonderful man.
You're very tall. The Homer Simpson one did well. What was it called? The Homer Simpson.
Yeah. What was that one called? The Arsenio. Well, what about, like, the Rare Leaf was good.
I didn't like the Rare Leaf. Yeah, but it's not Supreme, it's only Rare. The Supreme was better than the Rare. And then their Connecticut's good.
The Connecticut Rare Supreme? No, no, just the regular Connecticut. I like the Connecticut that Greg had. Greg smokes?
Yes. Because that's all he smokes. Yes. I like that one.
No, there's another one. A different one. Yeah, there's the one with the blue and silver band. Yeah, yeah, that one.
Yeah. I like that one. You like that one? So you do like some things, Aganorso?
Yeah, just not the supreme rare and... I like Fabian. Well, that's Fabian's favorite Connecticut. Fabian's amazing.
Yeah, I like Fabian. Well, I like Terrence. I mean... And Uncle Paul.
He took a tapas. You like a lot more things, Aganorso, than you think. He took people, he took somebody out the other night, but he took them out for teppanyaki, where they cook the food in front of you. Hibachi?
Yeah, well... Teppanyaki? Teppanyaki is what it's called in China, sorry. Hibachi.
Hibachi's Japanese. Okay. Sorry, just what I'm used to calling it. Hibachi.
Okay, he took somebody out for hibachi, and they even wore the Daniel Miyagi headband. They tied the napkins around their heads? Must have been a big account. Yeah, I guess.
Yeah, it must have been. Oh, they wore the little Ninja Turtle headdress? No, they look more like the Miyagi-do karate ones. We're not making the hibachi list.
Yeah, not after all these comments. Oh, we're never getting taken to dinner again. " Yeah, that's about the extent of it. That's the extent of this account, buddy.
Okay, what's the next story? J. Fernandez got that anniversary cigar. J.
Fernandez. Celebrating 10 years of his famous New World brand. That's been, that's been out for two years? 10 years.
I'm surprised that that one's been out for 10 years. It's not new anymore. It's called Old World. Old World.
Yeah. AJ has created us, but we better not, let's not insult AJ. The not so new world. Why?
Not insult AJ. Well, he made a cigar for us at one point through Espinosa. It was delicious. I got news for you, Palmer.
Nobody is safe, okay? Not a single person in this industry is safe from our humor. All right. He made a special cigar called the new old world, the Cineo.
Yeah. The Cineo is Spanish for a decade. So it's about honoring 10 years of blending and rolling great cigars. Are we gonna mention another name, or do you have, do you have five names positioned in this?
Okay. Just relax. I am relaxed. This new cigar uses tobacco from Mexico, Honduras, and Nicaragua.
The wrapper is dark and oily, giving it a rich, powerful flavor. You can still get the Decenio in three different sizes: a Robusto, or as Busto like to call it, the five and a half. The Toro is a six and a half, and Gordo is six inches. What about the gauge?
It don't say. It doesn't say, it just says the length? Yep. They all come in boxes of 20 and they were made at AJ's San Latino factory in Nicaragua, which did not burn down.
Oh, the San Latino factory. Which did not burn down. Jadea? Jadea Fernandez, AJ's daughter.
Oh, is that his daughter's name? Is that how you say his daughter's name? I doubt it, but that's funny. I doubt it too.
Jadea. Said her dad wanted this cigar to be special and to remind- Is it a J? Yeah, it is a J. So let's pronounce H.
Hadelia? Hadelia. Adelia. Adelia.
Adelia. That makes more sense. Yeah. Reminds fans why the New World brand has been such a hit, so whether you've been smoking New World cigars for years, or just getting started, the decennial might be a perfect way to celebrate something tasty and new.
New World? New World? New World? I'd like to pick a name, Michael.
Like New Day? Yeah. New Day. Oh, God, oh, God.
Apparently not. Medic. Oh, God. Oh my God.
Everything's fine. Don't hit the camera with your head. Oh, geez. Hope you got all that.
Am I still in focus? Hope you got all that. Yep, you're in focus. Okay.
Whew. Oh, whew. Corey Davis. Hey.
All right. The Las Calaveras 2025 is a cigar to remember. Up next is a cigar with a deep meaning. Every year, the company Crown Heads makes a special cigar to honor people who have passed away.
That's all we were talking about with the AJ thing? Yeah, that was, I guess it's over. He quickly moves on. Yeah.
We were at $46, man. Well, then you shouldn't have picked a name, you should have said you want to talk about it. What's the price point? $15.
There's no way. He just came out with that. It's New World. The New World is usually a valued cigar.
Yeah, it's probably like $10 or $12. It's probably less than that. Think so? 50 for the Robusto, $14 for the Toro, and the Gordo is $15.
It's a decade. Wow. Wow. It's got a purple band.
It's got a purple band? Oh, that's why the price race. And this is a limited edition? Is there production numbers that are specific or no?
Not limited. It's going to be a regular production item. Just the fifth anniversary, bam. 10th anniversary.
10th anniversary, I'm sorry. Bam. Supreme is the fifth anniversary. Correct.
That's felt like 10 years. Right, exactly. And the new world's 10 years. They must have a lot of those boxes, those purple and orange boxes.
The orange boxes. What are we doing with all these purple boxes? I don't know. Just keep coming out with another one.
They're going to make another cigar. We should release Arvitolas one at a time. You want to know why it seems like it's happened so fast? Because they've released Supreme Leafs back-to-back in a single year.
They've done two different sizes. Yeah, just a new size. Yeah. Okay.
We could have released San Andreas during the whole course of 2025. Just a size every month. Robusto! Perfecto.
Then I just hold in the one back. And now a perfecto. Why are we Mexican all of a sudden? What are the dimensions on the perfecto?
What's the dimension of the perfecto? Five and a half by 50, Michael. No. Six and a half by 50.
It's five and a quarter? It's a 50. I got the 50 part right. Yeah, you got the 50 right.
You know, I got all the blends down. Now you're giving me a hard time about the size. It's a five by 50. Oh, we're so close.
Just read the next story, Palmer. Close but no cigar, buddy. You have saddened me a great deal. I got the blends down now.
" And then I had to set you ablaze. Ah, cigar with deep meaning, every year the company Crown Heads makes-- Las Calaveras. Yes, for people who have passed away. It's called the Las Calaveras, which means the skulls.
Las Colts. In Spanish, it is based on the Mexican holiday, Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead. The Day of the Dead. This year, the 2025 version is on its way to stores in July, and it's something the cigar fans look forward to every year.
Do you look forward to it every year, Michael? Yes, I do look forward to this cigar. Boots, do you look forward to it every year? Yeah.
Hello, Boots? Yes. Wow, he kind of shook his head no, he did like a deep blink. No, I don't.
Why not? Yeah, I'm not a fan of that one. Really? Yeah.
Why not? That was the one that was like pink, green, and white. It's a different color every year. Yeah, but I mean this last one it was...
Maybe. Is it the colors or the cigar? No, the cigar. I like, out of Crown Heads, I like the La Patisserie?
La Patisserie? The La Patisserie? Yeah. The La Pisserie?
The Pisserie. La Patisserie? I like the, are we including Ossinger in that? Sure.
Yeah, I like the Bosporus. Okay. Yeah, you do like the Ossinger. Yeah.
That's about it. I like the Lost Cals. Yeah. The problem is that the first one was the best one.
How long ago did that come out? Probably past 10 years at this point. Everything's five or 10 years, you're doing an increment stop. It's probably past 10 years, probably 12 years or so, I'd guess, 12 years.
The new version uses a special wrapper from Mexico called San Andreas. Hmm, everybody's using that now. Yeah. How about that?
It's because they got good crops. Which is only the second time they've used this kind of wrapper for Las Calaveras. That makes this kind of rare. Ooh.
Ooh. They're all kind of rare. Well, no, that's the other company with the rare leaf. The Supreme Leaf.
They also have rare leaf. Yeah, that one's not out yet. No. Well, they put up a...
They came out with it. It was already rare, rare. Rare, rare. No, there's something rarer now.
Now they're going to make the rare, rare, rare. Oh. Yeah. Underneath it has tobacco from Nicaragua, and the cigars are made at the famous My Father Cigar Factory Nestle, Nicaragua.
Yeah. Nice. So, what's the binder? What is the binder?
Tell me the binder. It didn't say specifically. You don't know the binder? It's not in the story.
Why not? I don't know, I don't write these. Let me see if I can find the binder. You don't know the sizes?
There's four sizes with prices. Yeah, there are four sizes, yeah. Four sizes with prices from... Well, there's actually three sizes in the sampler pack.
Well, they're coming out with four. No, they're not. Okay, read it. What do you think of the story they are?
Okay, tell me, the three sizes plus the rare... One of the sizes is a Petit Lancero, and it only comes in a special sampler pack. It's still one of the sizes, it's four sizes, and this one's in the sampler pack. Crownhead says this year's cigar is flavors of coffee, toffee, and espresso.
Toffee? Toffee, and Espresso. It's a big change from the usual earthy or peppery cigars you get with dark wrappers. If you tried Las Calaveras before, this year's version might surprise you.
You might like this one, Boots. I think you are going to like this one. Is it Biner Nicaraguan? It doesn't say.
Oh. What does it say? Because they chose not to say. Why not?
I don't know. Sometimes cigar guys do that. Well, can't you find out? I will find out.
We'll find out. Before this show's over, I'm going to find out. Contact John Huber and ask him what I say. John Huber and I aren't text buddies.
Oh, well then ask the boys. No. I go to the number one guy. Yes.
Miguel Chadel. Miguel. How's the shingles holding up? The shingles are fine.
That's good. They never really go away. Yeah, it's like chicken pox. I don't know, can you get a chicken pox flare up?
If you get chicken pox, that's how you get shingles. Well, I understand that. You get chicken pox as a child, you get shingles as an adult. So they never go away, right?
The chicken pox? Yeah. Sure they do. They turned into shingles.
Right. I'm not gonna all of a sudden get chicken pox again. It's the same thing. No, it's not.
It's not? No. Are you sure? Yeah, shingles, you get long, streaky marks on you.
Chicken pox, you get dots. Did he say? Yeah. What did he say?
" Yeah. Told you I'd find out. Took 60 seconds. It's kind of vague.
It's something. Nicaraguan Binder. It's like saying it's a 60. It's like saying it's a, I don't know what size the Grand Perfecto is of the War Bear that I'm supposed to sell.
Everybody always says, like for the binder and for the filler, they usually say just like Country of Origin. Normally it's more common for the filler, but at least the binder, you usually get some type of reference. you know because like i'm always curious to know what the type of binder is because the binder can be can do numerous things as far as the way the ash goes as far as the offsetting of the burn as far as the flavor profile so i want to know what they did what the thought process was with the wrapper and the filler right and normally i can figure that out With what binder they use. Makes sense.
At the event this past Friday night, Greg was talking about the War Bear to a couple of people. Yeah. And the War Bear story he was telling was the catastrophic failure story. Oh.
How it was made by accident. Yeah. Yeah. So somebody was asking me, and they were saying, well, Greg told us this, and I'm like, that's a different cigar.
Do you think he has, like, early onset Alzheimer's or something? I just think he doesn't know. He heard you tell that story, so he's just applying it somewhere, 'cause it's a good story. Catastrophic failure?
Yeah, how it got made, you know, by accident, it was supposed to be, and he's closed, 'cause it was supposed to be the new War Bear. It was made with the War Bear original. Right, yeah, but Greg says that the Gran Perfecto was made by accident. This is why we don't let him out.
Right. All right, Rock Mattel keeps prices steady. Of course. Except for once ago.
Yeah. Do you know which one? A Decade. He's wrong.
The really expensive one. Emerald. Oh, you're talking about the one with the lipstick, man. What's it called, the contingency or some shit?
Concierge. Cigar's getting more. Co-pilot. Roger Bredactor.
I don't know, what's it called? Let me keep up with the story. I don't know, I want to keep guessing. Emerald.
The Klingon. Mostly because of tariffs, which are extra taxes. Just let me hear this story. S.
But Rocky Patel, one of the biggest cigar brands, has some good news. In a letter to cigar shops, Rocky Patel said his company will not raise prices on most of their cigars. Even with those new taxes, that's right. Most of their lineup will stay the same price.
There's one catch, though. Yeah. So how is he able to keep the price? This isn't part of the story, but we're discussing it now as we go.
Okay. So, do you think he has enough margin built into this where he can just eat the increase? I mean, yes. Yes, I do think that that would be the case.
Yeah. But is that what he's saying? Probably not. No, so he does not have his own factory.
Is that correct? I don't know. He might have a factory. Who knows?
Well, I don't think he does because his cigars in part of the story is listed what he gets from where. So, if the factory doesn't pass it on to him, who ends up getting charged for the tariff? Is it Rocky Patel or the factory? Well, whoever pays the import fees.
So, Rocky. So, like, the reality is it can go either way. Like, if you handle the costs from the factory and, like, you get shipment in, import, you pay that fee. So, the cigar that he's raising the price on is because the factory is passing the increase on to him.
They're saying you gotta pay this. Yeah. So, what they do is they gave it to him, soup to nuts, delivered, and here it is. Right.
So, the Java line of cigars, those are the ones with the flavored infusion. Drew Estate? Yes. Aha!
That's the price agreed. That's because Java cigars are made by Drew Estate, and they decided to raise prices, So Java Cigars are your thing. 75 per stick. I haven't seen those in a while.
They still make Java's? They do. We just don't really carry. We carry the mint or the cherry.
We used to carry one or the other. We've carried them in the past. Right. I mean, you know, like realistically, it's big in catalogs.
Right. So, you know, why would we carry it as a retailer? Right. Fans of Rocky Patel's other lines, the vintage, the sun-grown, or the edge, prices are staying put.
Rocky says he wants to help retailers and customers during a tough time and keeping prices steady is one way to do that. Now, that's what we call a smooth move, Rocky. Wow, dude. Stop.
Don't do it ever again. Okay? Just kill it. It was a good test.
I'm glad that you took your shot. Hey, some things work, some things don't work. You know, I honestly applaud you taking your shot, for sure, because you got to always continue to evolve and try to make things better. This one, just for the record.
A lot easier to read, though, without the comments, without the commentary. Yeah, you know, I, look, we're, I don't care what anybody says, we're in a recession, whether you want to admit it or not, you know, you're seeing pullbacks from a lot of people, you know, they had a great run. It was almost five years of up, up, up, price, price, price, all the way around, whether it was cost of production, cost of product, cost of shipment, they parlayed it, they added on to it, you know, at some point, like, you have seen pullback, it requires more effort to sustain your sales in this year than it did COVID years, five years ago, without question. So the real ones, the real brands, the real product, the real manufacturers or what are they called?
Brand owners. The ones that are going to produce and continue to grow in this time right now, they're the ones you're going to see succeed long term. You know, it's just like anything else right now. Like five years ago, if you wanted to buy a house, you had to place your best offer and it was a battle, right?
Sure. Now, you know, it's like, oh, it's listed. Oh, it's been listed for 120 days. Yeah, I want to take 20% off that price.
Right. Let me know if you take it. Yeah. Call the recession.
Okay. All right. The Traveling Cigar Roadshow returns in 2025. Oh.
What's that? We talked about this last year, didn't we? Talking about it last year. But they're not really on the road.
No, it's not Coop. It's not Coop. We stopped talking about Coop. He didn't cover our last press release.
Oh. Ready to hit the road because the Traveling Roadshow is back for summer 2025 and it's making 21 stops across the country. The Cigar Road Trip is like a small trade show where cigar makers meet shop owners and fans, show off their latest products, and of course, light up some cigars together. Big names like Altadis USA, CLE Cigar Company, Oliva, and Rocky Patel are all part of it.
They have special events in places like Tampa, Chicago, Dallas, Las Vegas, Boston, and more. Oh yeah, I remember this. Right. But it's not necessarily the headliners.
Like Rocky isn't in there. Well, Rocky's not going to be there, but the rep, I would imagine, is going to be there. Right. Yeah.
Each event has cigars, food, drinks, and even giveaways. You might even get to meet the folks who actually make your favorite cigars. Like the rollers? Is it open?
Well, I think they mean like a Rocky Patel, you might meet Rocky Patel. Maybe. But you see how they left it open? You might.
Yeah, yeah. No, it's not guaranteed. He'll probably only be the ones close to his house. Yeah.
So the roadshow kicks off July 22nd in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Who else in that list do you want to see that's an owner, that's a guy? Oliva? I mean, from that list they gave, I don't...
I mean... Who else is in that list? Oliva? Rocky?
Lee, General. Seeley? All right, Christian? All right, Christian's cool.
Altidus? I mean, so whatever brands... Who's Altidus? I don't know who they both...
Don't they have other brands under them? Is there anybody... Monte Cristo? I don't know.
Mr. Monte? His wife Cristo? This is the guy.
This is... You know the Cuban brand that we took and we started replicating in the Dominican Republic? This is... Like, what are we doing?
I don't understand. So is this open to the public? It's probably at events. It's probably at star stores.
It's a road show. They just give the cities and it's like exactly where. I mean, can we just start announcing our events on Half Wheel? Well, I think this is, but these are like all these guys are gonna be there at the same time.
Yeah, but like who cares? But that's what I don't know if it's open to like you go and you buy stuff for your shop or Boots goes because he wants to buy. I doubt that. I think it's for consumers.
Oh, you think so? Yeah, yeah. Yeah, that's what it sounds like. Oh, so then it's just, well, that's kind of.
Maybe we should start announcing. announcing we tried that they said we don't uh we don't do events who said that charlie did then what is this that's what i'm saying it sounds like a small trade show yeah it doesn't make any sense it's not a small trade show is it uh oh yeah it's open from 10 to 6 and meant for retailers interesting but sometimes fans get in too if they know the right people so i guess you could take boots it was such a success last time that they decided to do it again apparently I'm just not understanding... Ooh, it started in 2020, five years ago. How they're going to multiple cities, that's what you said, right?
Yes. And they're having... it's a trade show. It's a mini trade show.
So they did it, but they haven't done it every year. They did it 2020 and they're doing it again this year. It's become a summer tradition, it says. Oh.
If you're a cigar lover, mark your calendar. The Traveling Cigar Roadshow might be rolling into a city near you. Okay. So it's a place for you to buy, well, or Greg.
I'm not interested in going. No, why would Greg drive to Tampa when the rep could just come here? Yeah, it makes no sense to me whatsoever. Unless they're special deals.
Yeah, we're no longer flipping. No, he's just playing a video game. No, I'm flipping. No, you're not.
He's not looking, he's just... I don't think he's flipping at all. I'm flipping. He's texting somebody.
No, it says... Texting Ginger. No, I love you more. Texting Ginger.
No, I love you more. But that's why he's texting Ginger. No, no, I love you more. Yeah.
It's from 2021. It's from 2021. So, it's been going on for four years. Yeah.
Well, this said 20, but, you know, six and a half dozen the other. Interesting. It was a long list of cities. Doesn't sound like, uh, okay.
I mean, if you were in Tampa, maybe. No. No, it's just a weird thing. What if it was in Deltona?
No. At the city center or whatever else? No. No, you still wouldn't.
Well, yeah, but to be fair, you don't go to anything. I got stuff I gotta do. Yeah, you don't go to anything, you're too busy. But would Greg go?
Why? If he heard there was a deal on something there? On what? The deal would have to be monstrous anyways.
No. Oliva? Oliva's already, they've doomed themselves. They've hooked up with Cigar Page and they sell on there.
Direct consumer at a deep discount. I'm not excited to go see Oliva. What if Roma was part of it? No.
Roma's not that dumb. There's no brand. Well, we're saying for the sake of argument, Michael, that they've agreed to be in it. Like they smoked some meth and decided to get a part of it.
I don't know why. Maybe they got a good deal or something from the Roadshow people. I don't know who's putting it together. It doesn't say.
It's a mystery. Are all these brands related in some way? I don't think so. Under some giant umbrellas?
So how do they get all these people together? I don't know. It's all Justin Andrews' plan. They're all big brands, though.
They're all legacy brands. Right. Or Mainstream, I wouldn't call them Legacy, I'd call them Mainstream. Mainstream.
Yeah, so maybe it's like a CI roadshow. It's ridiculous what it is. Oh, that's what they should do in the CI parking lots. That would be easier for them.
Yeah, they already got all the cigars there. Okay. All right, moving on. I think we are.
Yeah, let's move on from that. All right, cigar fans, it's time for the new game of Sweeping the Cigar World. So would you like to pick another winner real quick? Indeed I would.
Pick another name? Or do you have, so you're going through the list, how many names you have left? I got two. Okay.
After this one or including this one? After this one I'll have one. Okay. Perfect.
Jason Day. Dun, dun, dun. Okay. All right.
It's time for What's the Score? Here's how it works. I'm going to read you some clues from a real cigar review. Straight from our friends over at Half Wheel.
I tell you what the reviewer said, how it smelled, how it smoked, what flavors they packed up, all the good and the bad stuff. Your job is to try and guess what the final score Cigar got on a scale of 0 to 100. Okay. All right.
Now, I've been told this has become quite the home game. People are playing along at home. Yes, they're guessing, yeah. Yes, yes, people are guessing.
Right. So, will it be a high-scoring favorite or a total flavor fall? Right now, the current score is I am leading with one. 5.
Alright, play along with us at home, test your cigar instincts, and get ready to shout out, shout to your speakers, because it's time to play, what's the score? Boots, Boots, Boots, Boots, Boots. Sorry, that was funny. Alright, our first review is by Patrick.
Oh boy. Is that your second one? Yes. Alright.
Of the Amazon? Yeah. All right, cigar- Right. That's a good point.
Right. All right, the cigar reviewed. Gold Star Robusto. Oh, boy.
Country of origin, Dominican Republic. Factory, Tabula Calera, William Ventura. The wrapper is Ecuadorian Habano 2000 Intermedio. Okay.
It's important to know. All right, did this just come out? Yes, this is the new one. This is a new release.
Yes. Okay. Binders, Indonesian Sumatra. Okay.
Fillers, Dominican Republic. It's a 5 inch by 52, so they just call it a 52 boots. So it's Dominican filler, period. Correct.
5 by 52. It's a Robusto, sells for $12, a box of $20 is $240. Release date is March 2025. Okay.
Number of cigars released, regular production, number of cigars smoked for review is 3. All right. All right, first, oh, guess. Now, you went first last time?
Yeah. All right, so I'll go first this time. I'm going to say 88. All right, 88, Boots.
Just burned his hand? I'm going to go 86. 86, 88. Yep.
All right, first clue. The three cigars all start a bit differently. Kind of a Goldilocks phenomenon, where the first is mild, the third is packed with dry wood, pepper, and something that irritates my eyes, and the second strikes a good balance, but dodges the irritation. You know, I like the description of Goldilocks.
So, three different cigars. All different. Each time. All the three same cigars gave him different impressions originally.
Welcome to Dominican Republic, baby. Right. Was that the end of that, Palmer? Yes.
Yeah. I'm gonna go 87. So, you went down one. Yeah.
Boot, you're at 86. I'm gonna stay at 86. Stay at 86. Okay.
Second clue. Heading into the midpoint of the first cigar, The smoke is irritating my eyes with a fervor, reaching a point where I have to get up and rinse them out in hopes of alleviating the sensation, only to get more of it when I return to the cigar. So, he's been injured. Yes, the cigar is injured.
His watery eyes, is that part of the scale? It apparently makes a difference. You're at 87, he's still at 86. Well, you kind of hinted at watery eyes prior to on the first round.
Well, because it's unusual. No, well, you said it in the first kind of clue, so I kind of incorporated that in my 87. So, I think I'm going to stick 87. All right.
I'm going to stay at 86. He is not changing. Because he read. All right, third clue.
I have not read anything about these guys. To say I've been enjoying the creaminess of the second third would be an understatement, which is why I'm disappointed to see it leave the Gold Star Robusto as the final third gets underway And do so rather quickly. So it tastes good, not the first half, not the first- This thing has injured him. I'm bleeding out of my eyeballs.
But it's delicious. But it tastes good, if you can survive the first third, the second third is great, but then put it down because the third third is no bueno. Right, yeah. Holy moly.
Ah, damn, this is a tough one. I'm going to stick 87, I think. I don't think I have much of a choice here. All right.
You know, part of me wants to go down to like 85. I've been thinking about that, but I'm going to stay at 86 since he's stayed at 87. So you guys are sticking it to your scores. Final thoughts?
All right, final thoughts. When getting to the summary part of a cigar review, I often try to think about the one or two things I will remember most about a cigar and what would be the things I'd be hoping to get from the cigar the next time I smoke one. In the case of the Gold Star Robusto, there are two things I will remember. The first is the incredible level of eye irritation that two of the cigars gave me.
The second is how good the creaminess is in the middle section and what it does to take fairly familiar flavors and turn them into a complex profile. given these two things the question is whether i'd recommend it recommended dealing with the first of the benefits uh like the first for the benefits of the second okay whether he would deal with the irritation because you like this flavor all right and i'm not sure i would while the flavor is very good the irritation seems like an unnecessary part of the experience if that one part could get removed from the experience the gold star robusto would get a much More enthusiastic recommendation. I don't understand sometimes the way he writes these things. Can I go 85 is the question.
He really doesn't like the cigar, but he's saying... He says he likes the flavor, but the eye irritation is really pissing him off. It's really not worth it, is what he's saying. Yeah, that's ultimately saying, but he's trying to be nice.
It's so irritating, I don't know if I would smoke. It's kind of like, he's trying to let down his, you know, his date, you know, like easy. Maybe they're a sponsor of the... You know, you're really nice, but...
It's me, it's not you. It's me. It's me. This is your boy.
Patrick. David Garofalo, no. Yeah, yeah, yeah, the cigar, yeah, yeah. Oh, boy.
Man, this is tough. You picked a good one. I think I'm gonna have to stick 87, if not I'd have to jump to 85, so I think I'm gonna stick. Why?
Can you not have the same score as him if you so chose? No, that was one of the rules. Is that one of the rules? Yeah, we couldn't pick the same number.
I thought we could. What's wrong with that? Well, then there'd be a tie, and yeah, so he's right. It's just a push.
I'm okay with a push. No, no ties. First of all, I'm picking first. What difference does that make?
So if I pick 86, then he's gotta pick a different number. Except he's already at 86. No. Yeah, he's already at 86.
But that's my point. So if I want to pick the same number he has, I can. No. I don't see the problem in that.
Well, we're two out of the three. I hope everybody's screaming at the screen right now. You're right. No, no ties.
There's no ties in what's the score? There's no ties in what's the score? Okay, well, I'm going to stick 87. Boots, what are you going to?
What are you going to do? I'm going to stay at 86. It's 86. Bam.
Bullshit. I figured that. Now he's calling bullshit because he lost. He's such a bad loser.
But again, like, these scores are crazy because he completely hated this cigar. No, it had some redeeming qualities. He liked the flavor, but it burned his shit out of his eyes. I just think even like an 86 is just high.
What is considered a... Can we start rating our cigars on the Patreon like this? What is considered a good score? I mean, what are you happy at if you get an above?
Is it in the 90s? The answer is, it depends on who reviewed it. That's true, you did mention that before. Is there not like an average number that would be everybody?
No. Listen, if Charlie scores something at an 88, I'm like, damn, all right. Oh, so you're happy with an 88 from Charlie? Yeah, an 88 from Charlie is like, okay, that's pretty good.
But if Brooks scores you an 88, you're not happy. No. No, if Brooks gives you an 88, Like, ah, should have at least been, um, if I think, if it's ours, I think that Brooks needs to give it at least a 90. If Brooks gives it a 90 or above, I know he liked it.
If he gave it an 88, like, I'm just giving you the, the, the, the rating, the rating that I think that they like the cigar. Right. Um, Patrick would probably have to be, uh, an 89 or a 90, maybe 89. Why even have it on a scale from, From one to a hundred.
Because there's variables that you have to consider that will rank it, give it 10 points, 20 points, 10 points, 20 points, here, here, here, here. I'm sure if you ask them, they would probably try to say it's all even, an 86 from Charlie is the same as an 86 from Patrick. Yeah, well. But it's not.
No, it's not. Yeah, it's definitely not. It's not. Especially when you get injured through your eyes.
It's not. If I see a 90 or a 91, I want to see who did it. And if I see a Charlie 91, like that's a unicorn right there, buddy. I'm like, hell yeah.
What's even crazier is that he washed out, if you had to wash out your eyes when you started smoking a cigar, would you continue to the middle? Yeah, smoke three of them when two of them burned your eyes? I know, I think I might give up. Go, is this got a 22?
I'm putting this turd out. You have two names left or one? One. All right.
com? I did not know that. com. Holy moly.
They have these listed on their website. Brooks has been around that long. It's 2003. So they have a different website for their older one.
Yes, originally there was another gentleman whose name I saw, but I didn't pull a review because nobody knew who he was, and I didn't think that would have been fair. He's probably the unicorn. He probably rated 100. Smoking Stogies is the original Half Wheel, and this is from 2003.
2003? God, I was in high school. Yes. This is the Arturo Fuente Hemingway Classic Sun Grown.
How old was Brooks in this? Yeah, that's what I was thinking too. How old was Brooks picked today? 22 years ago?
22 years ago. Was he 12? This is the cigar that's still around though, right? That's why I picked it.
Yeah. The Hemingway, yeah. This is a standard Arturo Fuente cigar. Yeah.
All right. Country of origin, Dominican. Wait a second. Yeah, we go right now.
No, I read you this, the introductory stuff, and then you vote. No. You say this is who it is, this is who it's from, and then I guess. Yeah.
Price point, whatever. Yeah, you just give us the basics. Yeah. Well, that's what I'm giving you now is the basics.
No, before the basics. All I've given you so far is the name. Yeah, the name and who did it. I think I read this first part first.
Nope, nope, nope, nope. Well, two of us say yes and you say no. I don't know. I edit all the clips.
I think that I stare at these more than you do. All right, fine, Michael. Go ahead. Okay, 90.
A Hemingway? Yes. I'm gonna go 88. Factories, Tabla Calera, a Fuente.
How many Hemingways have you given this guy? Have you given him a Hemingway? Brooks? Yeah.
I mean, you gotta think, this is 2003. This is, like, before anything else. A lot of small things. This is when Fuente was a small guy.
This is before Boutique, right? I mean, Fuente is considered boutique probably at this point, like 90, when did they create the opus? '97, '96, something like that? This is 22 years ago though, right?
That's before boutique. There's not a lot of boutiques at this point in 2003, I can tell you that much. Okay, go ahead, I'm gonna stay at Andy. Rapper, Ecuadorian Sun Grown, Binder, Unknown Filler, Dominican Republic, it's a 7x48.
90. Jesus. Date release, 2003. I think Hemingways are double that price now.
90. 88. The cigar itself is quite rough to the touch with very little oil to speak of. The reviews were much shorter back in 2002.
Yeah, it seems like. That's it? That's all you're giving me? That's all I'm giving you.
89. Oh, he went down one! I'm 88! The second third started with a literal explosion of spice.
The Hemingway Classic calms down after about 15 puffs, but the spice stays in the background for the rest of the cigar. 90. Wow. Why are you jumping around so much?
He went down then back up. Yeah. Off of pepper? He said he liked the cigar.
He said it mellowed out in its flavor profile, but the spice continued forward. I'm saying 88. 88, I'm sorry? Yeah.
All right. Out of nowhere, the cigar gets extremely bitter. Not the, well, let's keep smoking and it will get better bitter, but more like the cigar down bitter. Like my eyes in the future are going to be injured bitter.
That was a different person got the burning eyes. Damn. Those are your three clues. Damn.
You went high off the rip. It's Brooks and it's a Fuente, but it's 22 years old. Is Brooks, is he favorable on Fuentes? No, Brooks...
It's 22 years, but it's not a 22 year old cigar back in 2003. It could have been very fresh. Yeah, maybe he's a little angry at that point in his life. Went right off the press.
And this is probably in the beginning stages of him smoking, right? 89. 88. All right, final thoughts.
Disappointment does not even begin to describe what I was feeling at the end of the cigar. I was expecting a fusion of two of my favorite cigars and instead I got a foul tasting mess. Every time I hear about a cigar that I've been wanting to try and get a bad rating, the first thing I ask about is where the cigar came from and where had it been stored. As storage conditions can be a huge factor in the quality of the final smoke.
I know exactly where these cigars had been since they were released, and I have to assume that these specific sticks have just gone way past their prime. Perhaps never to return to anything close to their former glory. For those of you playing at home, you're probably really screaming at this point, because now we're completely off of the fucking numbers. 85.
85. Oh, man. Yeah, because he completely- I completely hated the cigar. This probably ranks way lower than that.
You know what's crazy, though, is that these guys don't rank things super low, even if they're bad. Hold on, I'm gonna go lower, I wanna change my money. Can't change your score. Why not?
Because you can't. I haven't committed yet. Yes, you did, you gave your score. You know he's going.
I'll allow it, I'll allow it. All right, fine, go ahead. 75. All right, Boots.
I'm going 86. 65. com okay so i found the archives so after two weeks we're tied we are tied i gained a half a point and you He gained a full, and now we both have one and a half points. Man, this guy gave a super low score on a Fuente cigar.
But he likes Fuentes, but he didn't like this one. Well, he might like them now. But do you see how spot on he was on the first one? Just saying.
I did. He's reading all the reviews. I never read half a wheel of anything. Okay.
How do you know how they make all their money? Half wheel? Add space, buddy. Add space.
That's it, huh? Of course. When you look at their website to cheat, you should look at all the ads. To cheat.
Yeah, you should look at the ads when you cheat. They're everywhere. All right, listener of the week, Kent Meyers. Kent Meyers.
I'm not familiar with Kent. Yes, Jack Trano ran into him when he was out gallivanting, I believe, in Arkansas. Oh, yes, Jack was in Arkansas last year. Arkansas.
And he mentioned the show? Yeah, he mentioned the show. So Kent, thank you for your support buddy. Thanks.
Alright, Shop of the Week. Old Allegheny Smoke Shop. Yeah? With Steve and Sarah.
