ACHP Episode 454 We Aren't Mad But We Are Aware!

Transcript

Welcome to Cigar Hustler Podcast, Episode 454, I'm Mike Palmer, your host, and back with me today is Phil, how you like me now, McGuffey? say hi phil hello roar like a bear phil roar like a bear yeah give us a roar give us a good roar and then with me as always is mikey i have a roma jacket and you don't step on gavich yes here i am in my unbelievable weasel team i like the red one better you keep saying that it doesn't match with the white on the sleeve it doesn't make sense i thought the red one Does that look better? No, it doesn't. I can have my own opinion.

No, you can't. Yes, I can. No, you can't. I pay you to not have an opinion.

No, no. That's not what you pay me for. Your opinion's my opinion. If we're adding, you get to buy my opinion, I'm going to have to have a raise.

You have to sell more in order to get the raise. But you can't add more responsibilities and make the money value go down by adding more things. Okay, so there's a threshold where I now possess your opinion? Yeah, we're not there.

But it exists. Certainly. All right. I'm reasonable.

All right. I'm reasonable. Just to make sure. On today's show, trees up north are exploding.

AOL goes offline and nobody notices. The same can of tuna has been recalled twice now. Oh, boy. Then in cigars, we have a new cigar.

Taxes are going to be going up on cigars. And JM celebrates their 35th anniversary. Then we end the show with a mini, what's the score? Oh, yes.

But first, how do we get some of that CHPOD swag with no beanie? Like and subscribe wherever you're watching or listening to our podcast. com for our latest swag. Shout out to our boy Francis.

Hello Francis. Yes. Our most recent purchase. Oh, what'd he get?

He got the smoke and subscribe. Oh, nice. And the War Bear shirt. Oh.

Yeah, he capitalized on the buy one, get one, 40% off. Right, makes sense. And, you know, if you do $100 or more, you spend $100 or more, you're going to get free shipping as well. Now, okay, I have a question about the free shipping thing.

You get one question. Okay, the free shipping is on $100, but if you buy two, you get 40% off the second one. So really, to get $100, you might have to buy three or maybe possibly four items. Oh, you definitely have to buy three, yeah, or maybe four.

So it's not the value of the one and two because you got the discount? No, it's the bottom total. Gotcha. Just checking, just want to clarify.

I like that you get, like, you have a hard time with all of this. No, no, I'm just clarifying it so people know. Well, Palmer's just trying to figure out how much money we're losing. Right, that's really what I'm going for.

Tons, tons. Since you're trying to buy my opinion, I was trying to help you out, but we're not there again. Okay, well, and we're recording this one a little earlier today, but we still already have a few comments on our recent posts from yesterday. Okay.

And, uh, wow, it's actually, it's already up to seven. Uh, let's see here from the real smoke podcast. I'm over here screaming while I'm driving. How the F do you not remember Paul?

LOL boots, not being there has you all out of whack. And that was true. That was true. That's what it was.

We didn't know. No boots. So we felt the need to dumb it down. Yes.

Yeah. " Wait, no, we just own it and move forward. Right, we leave everything up. It is what it is.

It's so hard to edit a video show. Yeah, we're not doing that. We're not doing that. We don't have that kind of time.

Exactly. We got cigars to sell and more cigars to sell. Corey Davis, our boy Corey Davis, Bobby McCartney wasn't in the band, but he was Paul's hookup for Florida Crab Legs, or so the legend goes. That was my mistake.

Thank you for clearing that up. And our dear friend Paul, Datta Cash, wrote John, George, Ringo, and Bobby? Yes. So apparently, the Bobby Beatle was the biggest track on yesterday's show.

We should have him on the show. We should. We should have Bobby on the show. Yeah, well, imagine if you got Paul McCartney and you had him, like, wear a wig or something.

Like, no, I'm Bobby. We would try. He just pops in for five minutes. I heard you're looking for Balby.

Yeah, yeah, I'm Balby. I'm Balby, hello. So, yeah. Did you give this?

Is that the CH Pod swag? You have your five? Our five? No, I'm done right now.

That's it for right now. You don't give five people that have bought Corona Gorda? No, I filled them all out so far. Oh, yeah.

All right. Yeah, I think we're all up to speed on that. All right, good deal. All right, now the news.

Oh, no news. com. Email is now working again. Email's working, yeah.

We had a nice crash. We had a crash yesterday. Nothing worked. I love the level of issues that we have to deal with as a company, and we just hack through them.

Like, okay. I know. Does everybody have all these kind of problems? I mean...

No, you know what it is? Nobody does things at the level that we do. Like, we're doing so many things. Oh, one time, so what's going on.

Like, if there's a retail online problem for an online retailer, that becomes their issue, right? Right. But, we're also, we're that, we're also wholesaler, right? Right.

We're also podcast. Right. So, you know, we're also merch store. Yes.

So, when something goes wrong on one of these fronts, or all of these fronts simultaneously, we get to deal with all of them, right? Right. I mean, we had Wi-Fi issues and email issues yesterday. Yeah.

Yeah. Unrelated to each other. Yeah. You know what, getting back to the other show yesterday, too, you know what's kind of funny, what I've realized about my BFF, Michael Rosales?

Yes. Is like, he gets very brazen when he's around Skip. Like, Skip was getting confident, and he's talking some smack at the end of the show. Right.

" Like, "Well, you know, this is what I do," or whatever the case may be. Whenever he's around Skip, like, that comes out of him. More gangster. Yeah, yeah.

Well, two's a gang. That's exactly what it is. Yeah. Yeah.

And he hides behind the grand poobahs. Right, exactly. You tell him. That's right.

Yeah. Yeah. You get him. You let him know.

I deliver. I'm like, wait, well, hold on. Calm down. We're friends here.

We're friends. If anything, you should be countering back against Skip. Like, no, no, you'd be nice to him. Right.

Exactly. 100%. Next time he calls me and wants some information on shop, I go, I don't know. Oh, yeah.

No, that's not nice. Ask Skip. Oh, that's not nice. That's not nice.

Oh. How about send two more jackets? That sounds great to me. No, only the one.

No, I don't want one. I don't want one. I wouldn't take it now if they send it. Only the one.

Oh, you can give it to me. Give it to Boots. Double extra large. You're in a stance, huh, Palmer?

You always... Listen, I love Michael, right? So, and... Which one?

Rosales. There's lots of Michaels around here right now. All of them. All of them.

All of them. And, I don't know. Like, it's, I wanted to make sure that that stayed in the, on the podcast, even though like Skip kind of didn't know that we were on the, because like, we're not afraid to get ribbed as well. You know what I mean?

Sure. Like, if you're going to dish it out, you have to be comfortable with taking it. Right, you have to take it back eventually. Yeah.

So, okay. All right, now the news? Yeah. All right.

Oh, wait, one more. I'm just kidding. I was just kidding. Trees are exploding in northern Michigan, and it's because of extreme cold.

Well, residents across northern Michigan are reporting something that sounds almost unbelievable. Oh! Trees are exploding! Oh!

Not bursting into flames, not collapsing in storms, but cracking apart with loud gunshot-like booms in the middle of the night. And no, it's not a myth. During this week's brutal cold snap, the temperatures plunged well below zero. Moisture and sap inside the tree trunks are freezing rapidly.

When the liquid freezes, it expands inside a tree. That expansion creates intense internal pressure. The wood fibers can't stretch fast enough, so they split violently. A sudden explosive crack that echoes through neighborhoods and forests.

People have described it as sounding like a rifle shot, a firework, or even transformers blowing. In many cases, residents step outside expecting to find damage from a crash, only to see a tree split wide open. This phenomenon is called frost cracking. It happens most often in hardwood trees like oak, maple, elm, and fruit trees.

Rapid temperature drops are the key trigger, especially after daytime thawing, followed by a deep overnight freeze. While some trees survive the damage, weakens their structure, cracks, allow insects, fungi, and moisture inside, making the tree more vulnerable to disease, rot, and future breakage. Okay, so, would this ever happen in Florida? No, I don't think it gets cold enough here.

How cold does it have to be? Below freezing. And that's where they pop. Yes, I mean, this is substantially below freezing, not like 31 degrees, like in the 20s.

So this probably happens every season for John McTavish in the frozen 200. In Canada, I would imagine. Yeah, north of the wall. Or maybe their trees have thinned out to the point now where the trees that explode are all gone.

No, they're so cold. They definitely put individual heaters on every tree in Canada. They heat their trees? They heat every single tree?

Yeah, they love their trees. Sounds expensive. They have a lot of trees. They love them.

They hug them. Sounds like a lot of taxing. Yeah. A lot of costs to the people to keep the trees warm.

Hey, that's why, you know, taxes are crazy over there in Canada, you know. Okay. A $12 cigar is now $30. Yeah.

Because we got to eat the trees in the wintertime. Right. Prices are higher in winter. But you can't smoke the cigars outside.

Don't you do it while you're warming those trees. Okay. Why is that? Why can't you smoke while you're warming the tree?

I don't think you can smoke in public over there or something, right? So if you were, if you were in like a region where this would happen and it would pop. When I lived in Michigan, I didn't hear one, but I had seen some that had popped. Exploded.

Yeah. Okay. So like, if you heard it, would it freak you out? Would you?

It sounds like it sounds like a gunshot or a firework or something. Wait, where were you? When I lived in Michigan, I used to cross country ski. So out on the golf course, when it got cold enough, you would see trees that it popped during the night.

Was it like Detroit, Michigan? I lived north of Detroit. Okay, I was going to say, if it was a tree, are you sure it was a tree? No.

Yeah, it might have really been gunshots down there. Back in his swimming days. Right, it is. Oh yeah, we used to high dive.

No, I didn't swim in Michigan, it's when I lived in Florida. Oh. Or 500 meter high dive. Yeah, you were skating in Michigan, you weren't.

No, cross-country skiing. Cross-country skiing? Yeah. You're a cross-country skier?

I cross-country skiing. So you made it to like Illinois and stuff? I didn't literally go across a country. I would go out on the golf course after it snowed.

So it was like golf course skiing? We can call it that if you like. Cross golf course game. Cross golf course game.

Certainly. What's the scariest sound that you hear in Florida late at night? I know one for sure. If you're near the water, it could be an alligator.

Okay. But what's that? They make sort of that barky, grunt, derral noise. It's like a grunt.

I mean, if you're in Florida, you know what it is. But if you're not, you're like, oh, what is that? And you try to get closer, and then you're dead. Your mic looked good when you started, and now it's already covering your face.

Yeah, it's like inching up. Is it going up now? I think you're going down. You go down as you talk.

Yeah. Yeah. There he is. What about you?

" Oh, I've heard screaming. I mean... Screaming? Yeah.

Screaming. Listen, that's your own screaming. No. " Yeah.

Where is he? Oh, God. I'll tell you one that has scared the shit out of me more than once. When they launch the spacecrafts, the rockets, in the middle of the night, yeah, because like for whatever reason, I'm a pretty light sleeper, I don't know if it's just overall paranoia that someone's coming for me and my family or something, but you know, you hear this boom and it like shakes your windows and I'm instantly on patrol outside of the house, like I think somebody's up on the road.

Really? You go out and start looking around and everything, huh? Oh, yeah, I go nuts, yeah. Do they launch in the middle of the night?

Oh, yeah, dude. Do they? Yeah, it depends upon when it's perfect timing for them to launch. Well, I've heard of night launches, but not like a midnight night launch.

Oh, it's like three or four in the morning, dude. Yeah, they don't want you to know when they're taking over the world. Well, they usually announce that it's happening. Especially when it's...

The ones they want you to know. Especially in the winter. Like, the wintertime here, it's louder. You're like, boom.

I'm like, well, the sound freezes, and then it explodes. The sound freezes. Just like the tree. Oh, just like that?

Just like the tree. I just thought that, you know... That's what Bobby told me. I always thought that when, from like a, from a scientific standpoint, like if it was hotter out, the sound would actually carry up.

I think it's, I think it's reversed, yeah. When it's cooler out, 'cause it carries down. I don't know, but somebody tell us. Yeah, I believe that that's true.

Somebody's gonna comment and let us know, please. I'm with a cigar surgeon. I think I'm smart sometimes. I think he's going to be drawing pictures of heated trees or taking pictures of heated trees.

Oh, maybe he'll talk about the trees on the, he's going to be on a show, I see, on KMA, or? Oh yeah, he's doing KMA again this weekend. Really? Yeah.

I can't, I hope he comes down here so we can get him on this show. That'd be nice. We got to get him to Florida. Is he allowed out of Canada?

I thought he could only leave for the PCA, that's the only time they allow him to leave. I don't know. I don't know the details. They only allow him.

National treasure. Well, he's got to have a visa or something. I FaceTimed him once, and we had a conversation, and he was in like his work office. Yeah.

He looks very successful, so it's a very, it's a lovely building. Oh, yeah, I mean, look at his glasses. But he works for the oil company. Yeah, something like that, yeah.

Yeah, he's got a great cigar lounge on his show. He does. It's a lovely cigar lounge. Yes, it's lovely.

It's lovely. Okay. All right, so moving on from the trees. All right, this morning, actually yesterday morning, millions of internet users woke up to a digital traffic jam, not on the road, but in their inboxes, Both Yahoo and AOL services experience a widespread outage, leaving users unable to access email, homepages, and other online features.

Did you say Yahoo? Yeah, which ones were they? Yahoo. Oh, that's not what you said.

Yahoo. Did I say Yahoo? Yeah. I'm from South.

Are you from Fargo? No, he's, you know, that's the cross-country skiing. Cross-country skiing, you pick up dialects, it happens. Yeah, I get it.

It happens. That's where I met Bobby. That's where you met Bobby on the golf course. Yeah.

Reports of the disruption began rolling in mid-morning as login errors, loading failures, and blank inbox screens. Frustrated users trying to check messages or conduct business. Outage tracking sites showed a sharp spike in complaints, confirming the issue wasn't isolated. Social media quickly filled with screenshots of error messages, posts asking, "Is Yahoo down?

" Proving that even decades-old internet giants can still bring the digital world to a halt, if only briefly. Yahoo's support team acknowledged the outage and confirmed engineers were actively investigating. Service gradually returned after internal traffic management systems were adjusted and the companies reported to no signs of hacking, data breaches, or customer data exposure. While the outage didn't last long, it served as a reminder that many users, including business organizations and long-time customers, still rely heavily on these legacy platforms for daily communications.

And in the end, considering the average age of AOL and Yahoo users, it's somewhere around 75, there's a strong chance most people didn't even notice the outage because they were still trying to remember their passwords. Well, or remember that, you know... They had Yahoo. I didn't realize that many people still used it.

Do you go on Yahoo at all, as you like to say? Sometimes when I'm looking for news stories, I will, but it's not, they don't have good information anymore. It's very antiquated. Yeah, you know, I have jumped on this on the Yahoo, as you like to call it, from time to time, and yeah, I don't think, I don't find, like, the news articles really...

No, not very trendy at all. No. What about you? You go on the...

No. They're like, Wright Brothers, fly the plane for the first time! Wright Brothers! I think, like, my original email that I have is Yahoo, but I don't even go to the site, like, I just have a link to my phone.

Yeah, what was your Yahoo email, was it like? Oh, it's my first and last name at Yahoo, I'm the only one. com. Yeah, like you would be the only one, so it could be your first and last name.

I couldn't do my first and last name on an email. It wouldn't be enough room. Surprisingly though, my wife does have an email something like that. How do people ever email her?

I don't know, she just did it. There's no way to get that name right on your first try. You know, I kind of, I enjoy that, I find that as like a badge of honor. And it's like, well, guess what?

You're going to figure out how to spell my last name. Right. You might have all these emails sitting out there of important information you're supposed to have had that they couldn't send to you. Yeah, well.

I don't know. It keeps coming back. It says no email. Yeah, figure it out.

Figure out. Figure it out. Drop the vowels and figure it out. Right, exactly.

15 letters, no vowels. All right. So the internet kind of sort of crashed for all the old people. For the old folkies.

Yeah. My dad had an AOL email till the day he died. Right. Never had a different one.

He still has one. Well, technically, I guess. No, I think we had to close it because they were- We talked about that recently. He was getting charged for dial-ups.

Yeah, he shut that down. Mom still has one, though. Yeah. Oh, she yesterday put somebody's phone number on Facebook.

Oh, did she? She listed a phone number. Does anybody know who this is? That's awesome.

Called her three times, so she had to take it down. You can't put people's- I don't have Facebook. Well, 10 minutes ago, you had Facebook because you put it up. I had people texting me and telling me she did it, it's still there.

You can't put someone's phone number on this? Who cares? The person whose phone number it is, I would imagine, if people start calling it. No one's gonna call it.

Somebody already did. Somebody called the number. Yes. She's looking for her old cleaning lady whose number I gave her, but this is a cleaning lady who's not her old cleaning lady who lives in Tampa, is what the phone number is.

So she must have Googled, like, Lucy the cleaning lady, and then she got this lady's number in Tampa. Lucy? So how did anybody... What a name to come up with.

But who would call that... I don't look at it like... Because some old lady puts it up, so everybody's trying to help her and figure out what the number belongs to. " Okay, like, the first thing, I'm not, that's not my go-to, is I'm not calling the number.

Well, not you, but other old ladies. It's not like she has, you know, a wide variety of Facebook friends in different industries. Yeah, which is kind of even to my point as to, who cares if she puts it up? You know what I mean?

The person whose number it is, I would imagine. Yeah. Well. I mean, how would you like to be getting random phone calls all day long because somebody put your number on Facebook?

Um, I don't answer them. They're all blocked for numbers I don't have. Well, yeah, but I mean. It used to happen all the time.

You never like, somebody you hated, like, put their phone number inside the bathroom stall? Well, that's what I mean. It's like that. For a good time call.

- Did you read the email that you sent me? - Yeah. - Oh, God. - 19 minutes.

- Yep. - Obviously. - Would you like to send it to the Brittany Steponkiewicz email, or? - Yes, ma'am.

I'm working, I'll send it right now. Love you, bye. - Did you spell her email wrong, too? - Yeah, whatever the problem was, I got her email address wrong.

She's the love of a good woman. Just, you know, occasionally emasculating. You sent it to the wrong email, you small dick person. This is my life.

My mother was right. I shouldn't have married you. Send it to the right email, for God's sakes. Here we go.

Well, we got, I got football today, and I'm trying to get the wrist plays done. And when I say I'm trying to get the wrist plays done for all the kids, my wife's trying to get the wrist plays done. Oh. And the other coach that I- I understand how she feels.

And the other coach that I coach with, even though the playbook is the same, he changed, he wanted to change all the colors and move everything around. And I want things to be kind of uniform. So I had to redo all of that and then just keep it in the other colors because my other team, I, you know, they know, like I have them like assigned by colors, like blue, green, stuff like that. The other coaches at Preston?

Uh, no, Preston coaches the kindergarten girls team with me, which we just finished and we won the championship. Oh, nice. Is it law? It's, uh, yeah, it's, uh, it's Camacho Law Ream.

Oh, wow. Yeah, he coaches the three, four Patriots teams with me. Perfect. Yeah.

So, before we move on for this, wouldn't it be cool if, like, I don't know, this just came in my head? Is that why you're out of masks? You want to back on? I mean, that's fine.

We just have to pause. Okay. No, no, just so when I start reading the next story, he'll get up and do it. Yeah.

Okay. So, when you said that, you know, your dad passed away and you had to shut down his account, It made something click in my head. What if there was a company that bought up all these emails at, like, no cost, basically, and then sold them? Like, you know, like storage units?

Yeah, and then sold the email and, like, you go through it and see if there's anything you can claim or anything. Oh, because there's going to be spam emails and stuff in the email file, in the email account. Right. Could be something of value, like, you just won a thousand dollars, you know.

And you get it because now that email is yours. That sounds ridiculous. Wait, wait, it's not that far-fetched, but generally speaking, though, there's not going to be anything in there worth any money, really. Yeah, I don't get any emails that are like, oh my God.

Yeah, but that's why you sell it for like, I don't know, 20 bucks. 20 bucks. Yeah, but if you sell 100,000 of them, 20 bucks, everybody's going to go, hey, it's just $20. Show me the idiot that'll buy 100,000 of them.

You know what, now that this is going to be on the internet, there's going to be a company that's going to pop up, I promise. There might be one, who knows? Well, when you find that guy, let him know I got a bridge too that's available, okay? Oh, from John Jurgeland, the bridge guy, he's in charge of bridges now.

Yeah, I just felt myself slide in the chair to the microphone. Yeah, it's lower again. So you're getting to that age, so what's going to start happening is your pants slide down and... No, I wear a belt, make sure it's cinched up, so...

Well, usually at your age, you're supposed to buy suspenders. I've had suspenders before, back in the 80s when they were wearing them with a suit. Oh, what we need to do is get them a seatbelt, so strap them in there. Yeah, not a baby seat from a restaurant.

I miss Sarah. Got to tie it around his waist so it doesn't slide down. Maybe you can hook something to the ceiling. No, that would be just too weird.

Well, like the bounce thing that you put the kid in and I'll just sort of hang in it while I do the show? That's just too much. No, that's too much. I'm just going to go right under your arms.

People that can't afford the other thing use the bounce thing. That's kind of weird. All right, okay. All right, is this all edited out or is this stuff we keep in and out?

No, we should keep all of this. We're rolling. It's all the part about your wife we keep into? Of course.

All right, good. So much easier for me. All right, canned tuna that was initially recalled last year due to potentially fatal botulism risk has unexpectedly resurfaced on store shelves in nine states prompting a fresh warning from federal regulators. The tuna, Genova Yellowfin Tuna products in olive oil and extra virgin olive oil with sea salt was part of a voluntary recall issued in February 2025 after the manufacturer Tri Union Seafoods found defects in the cans.

Easy open pull tab lids that defect could compromise the seal, allowing air to contaminate inside the can and raising the risk of contamination with botulism. The rare but serious bacterium that causes botulism, a form of food poisoning, that can be life-threatening despite being placed under quarantine, the FDA says a third-party distributor inadvertently shipped these recall products back into retail distribution late last week. Affected states include California, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin, and Maryland, Virginia, and multiple grocery chains such as Safeway, Albertsons, Vons, and Pavilions in California. Consumers are being urged to not consume these products even if the cans look or smell normal.

The FDA and TriUnion advise that anyone who has these tuna cans should discard them or return them to the place to purchase for a refund or contact the company for a retrieval kit and replacement coupons. Symptoms of botulism can include weakness, dizziness, blurred vision, trouble swallowing or breathing, and can appear hours to days after exposure. Anyone who feels ill after eating the tuna is advised to seek immediate medical attention. So, at the end of last year, these cans were recalled because of the possible case of botulism.

Okay. Then, this week, they mailed them back out again. What are they doing? Why weren't they destroyed?

Why are they holding on to those? Oh, oops. Or is somebody looking at it going, send these back out. We paid for this shit.

Yeah. We gotta get rid of this. They gotta make the money back. Maybe they won't notice this time.

Yeah, send them to Aldi's. Send them to Aldi's. Don't you shop at Aldi's? Not as much as we used to because the selection, the reason they're so cheap is because they don't have a big selection.

So, yeah, we've gotten tired of some of their stuff. But, yeah, I mean, I will. Like, if I have to do dinner for myself, I'll run in there and pop something, you know, pick something up to take home. I pass one on the way home.

Right. Yeah, how were they? Why did they have them? And why didn't they have big stickers on them?

Like Do Not Sell, or Recalled, or I don't know man, that's wild. There's only one person I know that likes tuna. Oh yeah, who's that? Paul Walker.

He's dead. Well, yeah, but he did. Oh, I like tuna. It's a Fast and the Furious mark.

You don't like tuna? The tuna's good here. The tuna's good here. Nobody likes the tuna here.

You're bleeping, bleeping. You're bleeping, bleeping, bleeping, bleeping, bleeping. 95. But this leads into other stories that I didn't pull, but like chocolate's been recalled in the last week.

Chicken's been recalled in the last week. Cheese is being recalled again. I think that you find this very fascinating. I do, just how often it happens.

As like an older guy, I think this is what this is. Is that what it is? Yeah. You're not concerned about your food being, you could be eating something that could be poisoning you?

You'll never know. I'm not really that. Well, until you die, botulism could kill you. So what is botulism?

I just read it. It's a bacteria that grows because their easy open cans can become, get a little air hole in it, and then the air, when they get hot, the... So it's not really anything other than like a packaging... It's a packaging problem, yes.

It's not like it's bad tuna, but there was a packaging problem that allows air into the cans. I mean, you can't really... how do you stop that? You just don't make the cans that way.

You don't make the cans that way. You put the little pull tab back a millimeter. Yeah. You can't do that.

Everybody knows how to open up a regular tuna can. It still opens the same way, but that little pull tab is... The poll tab is too far forward. You will confuse Americans.

All right, I'm ready to move on from this. Okay. All right. Thank you for keeping us up to date on the recalls.

You're welcome. Hopefully, you're saving lives. Do you eat tuna? I like tuna, yes.

Yeah, me too. I'm more of a chicken salad guy. I like more tuna steaks than canned tuna, but we've always got a can or two in the house for some reason. Yeah.

Especially the one at Dom's shop in California. Yes. There's probably a can or two of canned chicken still upstairs in the kitchen here. Yeah.

When you used to eat a can a day. That's like a hundred years ago. It's still canned. That stuff always looked pink.

You better hope there's not a little hole in it. I've evolved to grilling. It's chicken. I grill.

Oh. Yes, yes. Yeah, chicken salad. I love chicken salad.

I don't eat tuna salad. I like chicken salad. I'm in this chicken salad phase now. I always have some in the house.

All right. Moving on. We're now talking about chicken salad. We could talk about you with the different colored wrist things for football, but we can't talk But we can't talk about chicken?

It was about 30 seconds, and I got emasculated, so yes, it's worth talking about. If you would like to have your wife call in and emasculate you, then you can talk about as much tuna as you want. What, already? It already happened this morning.

Right, exactly, but it didn't happen on the podcast. I'm not stupid. Right. Oh, so you call me stupid.

Oh, God. Oh, really? Do what you want, I don't know. Interesting.

You have a video, Mikey? You know, I had egg salad for the first time the other week. What's that? Did you?

I like egg salad too, but not as much as chicken salad. Walmart's got it really good when they put grapes in. That sounds gross. Nope, it's good.

Do you have a video, Michael? I don't have a video, but I do have a picture for you guys that I found extremely interesting. Oh, a picture. a.

Joshua Habersky of PCA. And our dear friend, Joshua Habersky, was in town yesterday. You sent a picture of the yellow truck? Yes.

Yeah, because, you know, I'm going to plug old times. No, no, no, I'm sure. Yeah. Wow.

Oh, yeah, this is a familiar truck. Yeah, you know the truck, that's old times? Old times truck, so he was at old times. That's in Castleberry?

Yeah. 20-ish minutes away from Cigar Hustler. It's about 20 minutes away from here? Yep.

Like, why didn't he come here? We would have put... He has my phone number. " Yeah.

I don't know. He would have co-hosted the podcast. Oh, that would have been fine. Was that the only place he went was there?

He did a podcast, too. Did a podcast? Yeah. He did a podcast.

Well, not the podcast, but he did a podcast. You think he's scared? Of course. A lot of people are scared.

I don't know. He handled himself quite well when we called him. Yeah, he did. Well, maybe we pissed him off.

He didn't want to be on the show. I mean, he could have come in and not done the show. Right, just to say hi. Because if he didn't give us a day's notice, we would have either not been ready or already done it.

Right. Wow. Wow, Joshua, what's up, bud? Yeah, what's up with that?

Was it your clothes? Was it the way you were dressed? You're afraid we'd make fun of your clothes again? Yeah.

Did we make fun of his clothes? We did, yeah, when he dressed as a homeless man who went to an event. Oh, yes, I remember this guy. It was a while ago.

Yeah. Yeah. Wow. Yeah.

Well, maybe you should start dressing properly. Maybe we'll make you wear the mask, like Phil. Oh, that would be great. Where the bear knows.

And then he will be on the camera all the time. Oh, wow. How about that? That's hurtful.

So yeah, that's all I got for you. I thought that was interesting. It is. Why would he come to town and not see us?

Yeah, he should have stopped by. I mean, they're kind of close to the airport. Depends on where else he was going. " Yeah, you know what, we don't give people a hard time if they're in the air and they don't say stop in to us, we don't do that often, because it's like hey, we understand people are busy or whatever, but like, New Year, new us though, but no, no, I'm not, I'm just kind of sticking to that, but on this scenario, it would have been awesome if you'd have stopped in.

Sure. Especially with like chicken salad sandwiches. And if we'd have got him on the podcast, it would have been even better. That would have been great.

Yeah. Could have had his way with our show. Yeah, we could have been, You know, like we had Terrence do the baby giraffe story, we could have had him doing a story about lawn gnomes or something. We could have had, instead of cutting the top of his head off, we would have the camera weigh up.

We would have just had his head on, yeah, just his forehead, yeah. Hi, I'm Joshua Haberski. Hi, I'm Joshua Haberski. Oh, is he super, super short?

He's short, yeah. It would have been hilarious. " Not even thinking, I was just all hyped up from the day. Just excited to see him.

I was just excited to see him, and he was a lot shorter than I thought he was. You didn't try to pick him up? No, but I am this year. Oh, look at you.

But he takes it all well, you know what I mean? He doesn't like... Well, he's probably been dealing with it for years. I mean, just even like with Willie, Willie got offended at first, right?

But we weren't, I'm like, dude, we weren't even talking, we weren't even speaking ill, right? Like, we, you know, we give, we legitimately give Josh a hard, a hard time on the show and he just took it in stride. So he would have like been perfect here. Right.

Yeah. And everybody would have been talking about it. First of all, anybody should come do this show, and if you think we're just going to completely blast you, we're not doing that. No.

I have to look, see your show. We are professionals here. Unless your name's Phil, then we're going to just blast you all. Phil McGuffin.

Phil McGuffin. Right? Right? My little bear?

My little bear. Blasting anybody around here. What's his name, Wolf something? Wolf of K Street.

Wolf of K Street. What are you calling him? No, I'm going to see where he went. He went to old times.

He also went to Cigars on the Ave. Yep, he did go to Cigars on the Ave. Wow. And then he went to...

Uh-oh. Don't look, you're going to be hurt. No, he didn't go there. Oh.

No, he didn't go there. He went to some private lounge. Oh, that's Bob's. That looks like it's in somebody's garage.

That's Bob's. For a podcast. It was for a podcast. Oh, the Cigar Guys?

But no, if you click on it, because he tagged them. Oh, really? So, yeah, if you click on it, it goes to their page, their private lounge in Ocoee. That's even kind of closer.

Yeah, he like went around us. Yeah. Wow. It's like he avoided us.

He did. And he did Stogie Hub is the name of the show, or, wait, that's... Well, he called me and I told him I wasn't here. Now he's got to fly back.

Now you've got to fly. Burn and learn. Burn and learn. Now you got a flyback just for us.

It's all right, just charge it to the game, use the PCA card, we'll be fine. Right. After Dark Cigars? What is that?

I don't know. Well, that's the lounge. Private Members Lounge to have great conversation, smoke premium cigars with no drama and no agenda in Ocoee. Oh, well, we definitely have the drama.

After Dark Cigars? Yes. Anything I've ever heard that has the name After Dark in front of it? Yeah.

Hmm. Bow chicka bow wow. Yeah, yeah. Come on, dude.

That ain't right. 268 followers. That's right. Hey, well, don't shoot down a guy.

I'm not shooting down his thing. I'm just saying, if you want exposure, where do you go? Cigar Hustlers podcast. The number one cigar podcast?

For industry. That would be Cigar Guys. That would be Cigar Guys. Could have done that, too.

I mean, that's near here. Yeah. I like Alex Reese's rants on the Cigar Guys. He's like, we're the best.

I'm like, oh, okay. Well, yeah, there was something. He got pretty intense there for a minute. There was something last night about how now their views are skyrocketing because they've been listed as the number one.

Oh, that's good. Sure. Good for them. They work hard.

Yeah, every time. Do it. Do it. Okay.

All right. All right, on the cigar news. Joshua Bershke comes to Orlando and does not see Cigar Hustler podcast. It's the biggest story in the world right now.

All right, now back to you. Alright, to celebrate its 35th Anniversary, Prometheus will add three Diedema Vitolas. What's a Diedema Vitola? A Diedema Line?

Uh, yeah, those are, they're like skinny and they're kind of round on the top. Yeah. P. Special Reserve Line, later this year, the new cigars are the God of Fire.

P. I'm gonna be very careful there. Yeah, almost one too many letters. Almost one too many K's.

Special Reserve Diedema 54, God of Fire. God of Fire, KKP, Special Reserve, Diadema 56, and God of Fire, KKP, Special Reserve, Diadema 58. The company has not announced pricing or dimensions of the cigars. Yeah, I mean, to be honest, I wouldn't even acknowledge this guy.

This guy was super mean to me like three or four years ago. Oh, really? Yeah, I was excited we were gonna carry the product and then like he just, he blew me up and uh... Prometheus, isn't that, uh, Kent, uh, that's Espinosa's guy, right?

No. Oh, I'm completely off. No, it's the God of Fire, dude. Uh, we were in the, we were in Vegas, we were in the, uh, the, the Fuente shop in Caesar's Palace before it closed.

Oh, yeah, yeah. For the birthday. And, like, he, he jumped at me, and I'm like, I'm, I'm sorry, I don't, and then, like, after he walked away, like, this happened in front of two guys. And I looked at them and I was like, was I out of line somewhere in that?

He jumped to you because he was excited to see you or he jumped to you because you said something? I was making conversation, I was asking him questions about his Opus stuff and I was like, so how did it all work? How did that all happen? Because he's obviously not Fuente, but he's Opus X and then he instantly kind of attacked at me and I'm like, I was so caught off guard, I'm like, what?

- How dare you? - How dare you ask me about my line? okay, so like, after he walked away, I looked at the guys that got the front row of the show, and I was like, was I out of line there? Did I do something?

And they're like, no, I don't know what the hell that was about. - Maybe he's friends with Joshua Berski, and that's why he didn't come by. - Maybe that's the case, yeah, it's very possible. - You're in Orlando, do not go by the Cigar Hustlers.

So hey, there's this new cigar coming out, and they have no information. I just fast forwarded the story. Fuck them, we're done. Perfect.

This year, lawmakers in Olympia... Well, hey, I guess we are a little biased, aren't we? Just a little fat. Yeah, fuck that guy.

Palmer holds a grudge. Yeah. You stick with your boys, and that's, you know... I also hold a grudge.

Right, but you're holding a grudge because of... Well, yeah, he didn't do anything to me because he did something to you. Exactly. Certainly.

This year, lawmakers in Olympia will consider at least a handful of bills that could drastically change how cigars While cigars and other tobaccos and nicotine products are taxed in the state for cigar retailers and smokers, the most meaningful one would be the passing of SB 6129, which would revise how the state taxes nearly all tobacco and vaping products to a new rate of 90% of the taxable sales price. Where is this? Olympia. It doesn't say the state.

Olympia, is that Washington? I think it is Washington, which would likely be applied to the wholesale price. Currently, cigars are subject to a tax of 95% of the wholesale price, but with a cap of no more than 65 cents. 15 before sales tax.

78 before sales tax. So it's double tax? No, no, they're replacing one and not taking this without and giving it no cap. No, you said before sales tax.

Right, well it was 95% up to 65 cents, now it's 90% no cap. That's insane, man. The more expensive the cigar, the more effect the change would have. 65 before sales tax.

80 if the bill passes. There's an additional 10% tax for any flavored products and 90% of the taxable sales price or 100% of the flavored cigar. Wow. Like, where's the logic?

I don't understand this. Who comes up with these ideas? And then who supports these ideas? It makes absolutely no sense to me.

The non-smoker people. Yeah, but you know what, I don't understand how you don't just look at any type of ridiculous taxation, for whatever it is, and be like, no, that's a terrible idea. No, I'm not okay. We the people are not okay with this.

This is not 90%. Well, you know, we the people are lazy. They're like, I don't smoke. It doesn't affect me.

Vote. Yeah, it's designed to keep you dumb. Right. You know?

Washington's tax rate for cigars is the highest in the nation. The title currently held by Utah's 86% wholesale tax. C. have no tobacco taxes and should rule the world.

Welcome. Don't come here. Don't come here. Don't come here and mess up our state.

No, you can just order all your cigars through the mail. Right. Texas is just a penny. Is it really?

Oh, it's one penny. Just one penny? Yeah. I mean, you know what, one penny can make a difference.

No, I also think that that's a waste of time. I mean, it is a waste of time, but it does make a difference. I don't think that that should happen either. You don't think so?

No. You live in Seminole County, right? Yeah. Don't you guys have a penny tax for your roads?

Penny saved? Yeah, well, that's like different. That's through sales tax. That's kind of blanketing.

And guess what? It's like a reasonable six and a half percent. Well, oh, well. For everything.

And the reality is that we get a lot of tourism in this state. So, we're taxing the people that are coming to visit, right? More so than you are the people that are here. I'm a fan of that.

Yeah, yeah. I'm a fan. So. All right, moving on.

Okay. To all the taxes. Terrible taxes. This year marks the 25th anniversary of JM Tobacco and in celebration of that milestone, the company is releasing JM's Anniversario 25.

Cigar News. 25 years? 25 years of JM's Tobacco. Wow.

A pair of limited edition cigars, the lines build on the company's core line, but this time uses long filler tobacco rather than Cuban sandwich style filler found in most of the regular production lines. Oh, I didn't know that. A Cuban sandwich or mixed filler uses a whole leaf wrapper and a binder, but with a mixture of long and short filler tobaccos inside. While there are two blends, each is offered in a 6 by 34, a 6 3/4 by 50 Churchill Vitola that appears throughout the company's portfolio, which is described as the company's most popular and iconic size.

The JM Anniversario 25 Connecticut uses an Ecuadorian Connecticut Seed Wrapper, a Connecticut Broadleaf Binder, and Dominican Tobacco's for the filler. the filler. Meanwhile, the JM's Anniversario 25 Maduro uses a Mexican San Andreas Maduro wrapper with a Connecticut Broadleaf Binder and Dominican filler. Tabula Calera Turi is making both cigars.

Both are priced at JM 25 Anniversary Cigar. This could be anywhere. Long filler, not a Cuban sandwich. Yeah, okay.

What do you got? Well, for the last 24 years, I've never heard of these guys. I've heard of JM Tobacco. I've heard of JM Tobacco.

Yellow and Black Bands. Yeah, this This one's red and black, I believe. Yeah, let's go $25. I'm going to say $8.

$8. Wow. It's $8. Yeah, it's a Cuban sandwich cigar that's not Cuban sandwich.

You said it wasn't a Cuban, yeah. Yeah, but they're not going to go, the Cuban one is $4 and now this one, our customers that pay $4 are not paying $25. The deceitfulness. Production is limited to a thousand boxes of each cigar.

A thousand boxes, is it? Yes. Yes. That's a substantial number.

Yeah. That's not like a low number. How many is in the box? I mean, it's not like this is Fuente or something or, you know, like a big, you know, legacy brand.

This is JM. I don't know who these guys are. So, you know, a thousand boxes of an LE, that's a decent number for a brand that's not gigantic like some of these other guys. They sound like a bundled cigar.

It's a budget-friendly cigar. Right. Oh, budget-friendly. There's a term for it.

I like that I nailed it. Right on. Right on. And you're willing to pay 3X.

I don't know who these guys are. They sound like their marketing was good. Sounds like a good cigar to him. He's ready to go.

Is your camera still on? Uh, it is. Okay. For the first time, the company is presenting the cigars in aluminum tubes.

Oh, fancy. $8 for it. $8 you get aluminum tube. Aluminum, too.

See, now you would be confused. Now you would have guessed higher. You would have guessed higher. Additionally, each box includes a personal note from founder John Maroukin.

Super confused at this point. That's pretty nice. Reflecting on the brand's journey, its loyal customers, and the values that have defined JM for 25 years. JM has always been about consistency, honesty, and putting the smoke curve first, said Anto Maroukin of JM Brands.

Anto? A-N-T-O, A-N-T-O, A-N-T-O, JM's Anniversario 25, a celebration of the past 25 years, but also a statement about where we're going. Honoring tradition will continue to evolve. JM Anniversario 25 will debut at the 2026 TPE trade show.

Oh, they don't even go to, they don't even go to PCA. No, they probably are, but they're releasing, TPE's probably first. Yeah. Oh, it is March 31st, April 2nd.

Right. The cigars are scheduled to ship to stores immediately following TPE. I'm not going to show them at PCA. That's really close to PCA.

Isn't PCA like middle April or something? Yeah, it's like two weeks later or something. Yeah, it's that far off. " That's crazy.

I don't think so. I can do it for eight bucks. Oh, we're in. I think that, you know, like you want to make something special.

I mean, 25 years in any industry is impressive. Right. And they're like, hey, let's do something, let's level this up, let's make this a little bit more important. And we'll put it in tubes.

Yeah, not only that, but they're also, I mean, the letters that are in each box, I mean, that's something, man. Yeah, that guy had to write a thousand letters. Right. Well, a thousand cigars, or it was a thousand boxes.

A thousand boxes. Yeah, he had to write a thousand letters. That's a lot of work for an old man. Dude, my hand hurts just thinking about it.

My hands hurt all the time. He didn't write that. He didn't what? They didn't Xerox that, he signed each one.

Okay. Yeah. Yeah. This is his flagship cigar now.

What does he sign each cigar to? No, no. Just a letter. Don't go crazy.

It's not like he's Matt Hunt with his cigars where he signed each band. With the FQ. With the proper. All right.

That cigar still tracks after all these years. People still buy that cigar. Yep. The proper.

All right. It's time for the industry's favorite game. What's the score? It's a lot harder with three cameras.

By the way, I nailed it yesterday against Greg. Of course you did against Greg. Greg did okay. Greg did okay.

Yeah, he did well. He had a better strategy than you do. What was the score? 85 or 86?

And what was the cigar? It was the Java Red. And what was his method, since you said he had a better method than me? - I don't want to tell you.

- Okay. - Because you might use it. - Yeah. - All right, the Cigar of the Day, April 22nd, 2014, reviewed by Brian Burtt.

- Oh, our Deltona friend that never comes away and visits. - Yeah, that'd be nice. - Yeah. - 1502 Cigars is a Niki.

- It's a Niki Ragwan, the review, it's a 1502 Ruby Lancero. - Oh. - Would you like to go first, or would you like me to go first? - You go first.

Man, this is going to be tough. Hmm. I'm going to say 88. Ooh, good score.

Hmm. 87. Ooh, he's playing the game. He's already in.

It's a 1502 Ruby Lancero is from Nicaragua. The factory is Plasencia Cigars. Yeah. Wrapper, Ecuador, binder, Nicaraguan, filler, Nicaraguan, size, 7 by 40 Lancero, 750, and they Mike Smoked three cigars is a regular production cigar, gentlemen.

88? Yeah, it can't change, 87. Nothing really changes there. The fact that it's Plasencia, though, and it's 11 years ago, that could possibly lower it.

That would lower the score. For me, yeah. Plasencia today is not the same, in my opinion. Guys, it was Plasencia 11 years ago.

I understand. You know, if it was a 2025 Plasencia, it's totally different. It's totally different. I wouldn't have looked at it that way, but I wasn't paying attention to the thing.

All right. First clue. The wrapper is beautifully constructed. Beautiful.

No, no, there's more. There's more. Smooth, slightly oily, virtually seamless with an excellent cold draw that delivers rich, earthy chocolate and oak notes right from the start. Eighty-eight.

I feel like we're going to come across some burn problems at some point here, because it's a Lancero. Uh oh, Lancero problems. I'm going to stick 87, but I'm going to tell you what, this guy, that was probably the best description of a cigar yet. Wow.

Wow. If he only came by, you could tell him that in person. Don't you poo poo my Charlie. Why, Charlie?

I'm just saying, that was honest and very close. Alright, never respect a man with a bear mask. Continue. Bare nose.

The flavor profile shows impressive balance, blending creamy cedar spice, pepper, and involving sweetness, finishing smoothly without harshness and remains enjoyable all the way down to the fingers. Okay, so we like the cigar. It's pretty good. And he's good.

How low do you think Charlie goes? A third? He leaves a third? No, I think he goes as far as he possibly can.

Oh, that's right. They put the picture up. I think he goes to the end of the Chinese food that he's eating or whatever he's eating at the time. Until he runs out of Chinese food.

The teriyaki? Yeah. Oh, hurtful. That was not me, Charlie, just so you know.

We love you, Charlie. I still want my hug. Yeah, we love you. You're not going to give him a choice, Palmer.

Number two. You're just going to hug him. I am. I'm hugging him.

I was listening to part of the show last night. Yeah, I'm hugging Charlie. That's happening. That's happening.

It's so happening. I'm going to stick at 88. I mean, we spoke last year, so this year we're hugging. Oh, things are just really progressing, huh?

Just moving our relationship. What comes after the hugging? You're like Dr. Evil.

We kiss. You're like Dr. Evil. Give me a hug.

Give me a hug. Come here. Come to daddy. Come here.

Come here. Come here. Come to papa. Come to papa.

I will chase him for a short amount of time, too. Come on, Charlie. Come on. Hug.

Hug. You think he'll run? Does he look like a runner? I don't think he's going to give in right away.

No? Unless he hears this and he does it just to fuck with me. But, yeah, I could see him just like, no, no, but I'm just going to chase him for a little bit. Hopefully nothing happens in this whole thing.

Pick your score. You weren't like this last night, Charlie. Pick your score, Bear. 87.

Did you pick a score? 88. Oh, you're still at 88. Yeah, we're at the same number.

All right, third clue. The profile briefly loses focus with a touch of bitterness in the first third. And the appealing vanilla note in the final third fades too quickly before the cigar is finished. Next year, picture.

I just said that. And then kiss. So hug, and then picture, and then. I think next year, picture, and then the following year, a picture of you guys holding the picture together.

Oh, that'd be nice. Yeah. Oh. Yeah, this was us in 2027.

And to make that a regular thing every year. 2028. Yeah. Oh, you're not progressing after that.

You're just going to hold a picture. Yeah, that seems like a nice way to go. Yeah, I think the kiss is over the top, it's too much. You think so?

Well, it was going to be on the cheek, I wasn't going to blah, blah, blah. It wasn't going to be a blah, blah, blah? No, it wasn't going to be a blah, blah, blah. I think, I mean, I want to go lower here.

Oh. Because it dispersed a little? Yeah, I think I'm going to slide to 87. Oh.

I honestly don't remember what it was, no. Well, Bruce just looked it up, so. No, he texted me what it was, I just kind of... I texted you what it was, I don't even might see it.

Yeah, you want me to text it back to you? Yeah, text it back to me. Okay. Hey, Siri, text Mike Palmer, 86.

86. Send it! I don't even know how to do that. You just talk to your phone.

Yeah. I say, "Hey Siri," and it does nothing. I'm going to go to 86. You might not have yours turned on.

Okay. Or maybe she just doesn't know what your voice sounds like because you never talked to her. Hey, you never talk to her? Oh, wow, that's weird.

You and her fighting? Or is it just another woman's gonna be telling you what to do? I only talked to one woman, but... You can change it to a man's voice.

Yeah? Yeah. Yeah. That's better.

Like a British man. Oh, I love it. Mine was an Indian guy for a while. It was kind of funny.

Oh, you like the Indian man? Hello. Hello. Well, what can I do for you?

I'm always happy to see more Lanceros in the market, especially ones that are regular production. The 1502 Ruby line is an enjoyable blend and the Lancero size These are easily my favorite. The only drawback to the cigar is a slight bitterness towards the end of the first third, but that fades quickly enough. The Ruby Lance Arrow has solid, consistent construction and an enjoyable profile that kept me interested.

There's a great addition to the Ruby line, and I can easily suggest finding these when they hit stores at the end of the month. Didn't sound like he liked it till now. No, and by the way, that was the final thought he didn't tell us. Yeah, I know he didn't.

That was the final thought. Oh, well, you guys can't keep track of the fourth thing. No, we talked about this the other day. Yeah, we did.

You guys don't listen to me, though. You didn't say the final thought this time. Yeah. I think I'm going to stick 87.

Yeah, you like that number? Yeah. Well, since Palmer texted me, 86. I think I won.

Now what, you said 87, he said 86? Yeah. 89. Yes!

Oh, should have went the other way. It was a nine. Yes. Not a six.

Oh, I'm sorry, did I hit the wrong button? My apologies. Sorry, I'm so sorry. Got 'em.

Unbelievable. Okay. My stomach's growling. Anything else to add?

On Friday, February 5th, I'll be at Leaf and Bean in St. m. for a Postaña event. Come up and say hi.

Hello. What's the date? February 6th. Or 5th.

Whatever that Friday is. I think it's the 5th. Okay. You did say the fifth.
