ACHP Episode 507 The Draft, Diddy Has Rights and Energy Drinks For Everyone

Episode Summary
Mike Palmer hosts Episode 507 with Phil McGuffey and returning fill-in co-host Greg Szczepankiewicz (Mikey's stand-in), opening with listener comments from YouTube — including corrections on Yellowstone's "Teeter" (Jennifer Landon) and a fact-check on Phil's Navy/Air Force aircraft mix-up. The crew then digs into news that automatic military draft registration takes effect in December, with 46 states already auto-registering 18-year-olds, which categories of immigrants and green card holders must register, and how the draft order actually works (20-year-olds first) — plus the reminder that the last U.S. draft ended in 1973 during Vietnam, not WWII.
The news block continues with Sean "Diddy" Combs' lawyers appealing his conviction on First Amendment grounds, arguing the "freak offs" were protected speech and that the punishment doesn't fit the crime. From there, the guys cover a Texas wrongful death lawsuit filed by the family of a 17-year-old cheerleader who died of an enlarged heart, blaming caffeine from the Alani Nu energy drink — with a breakdown of caffeine content across Red Bull, Monster, Bang, C4, Celsius and coffee against the 400mg daily safe limit and ~1,200mg toxic threshold, plus debate over parental responsibility and the real story behind the McDonald's hot coffee lawsuit.
Cigar news leads with Tinderbox International relaunching its franchise program after roughly a decade dormant. Greg shares that he and Mike once nearly bought a Tinderbox-affiliated shop and explains why they passed on paying a monthly percentage as already-seasoned tobacconists — while acknowledging the franchise model's value for newcomers who need the tools and brand relationships. Then Lure Cigars announces the Wahoo as its PCA 2026 trade-show exclusive: a Mexican San Andrés wrapper over Nicaraguan binder and Estelí/Jalapa filler, rolled at La Tabacalera in Estelí, in two box-pressed torpedoes (the Ono, limited to 1,700, and the Kingfish, limited to 2,500) in 10-count craft paper bundles at $15. El Septimo also expands its Queen of Sheba line with the Conquest Edition Series 2, a 6x54 toro at $30.
The show closes with a Presidential Edition of "What's the Score," where Phil and Greg guess the Halfwheel review score of the 8x49 Gurkha Trump Presidente double corona ($15, released January 2017). Clues cover cedar, chocolate, peanuts, citrus peel, creaminess and pepper, a strong slightly-open draw, and persistent dryness plus second-third burn issues — the final score lands at 89. Wrapping up: an April 24th event upstairs with Bentley, Besa and Hooten Young including a dunk tank, a remembrance for late friend John White, and plans for daily show recordings from PCA in New Orleans.

Cigar Hustler Podcast Episode 507 I'm Mike Palmer, your host, and on today's show we have Phil. I'm learning how to say more Cheetos in Spanish, McGuffey. Chitoess. And my co-host today, back by popular demand, the one mom likes the best, Greg Szczepankevic.
A superstar! This is turning into a regular thing. Don't worry, you don't get paid. Oh.
Yeah, trust me, we've been doing it for years. Years. Years no getting paid. But every time we need new equipment, your brother somehow comes up with money.
We're not sure how this is working. I really need to take a look at the other books. Oh. Okay, never mind, we don't have any new equipment, we said that wrong.
We said that right. Probably has him at his house. Read the books? Yeah.
Brittany put down that we bought paper. $2,000 sheets. $2,000 worth of paper. On today's show, we have the draft.
There might be a draft. A draft? They're changing the draft. Like for the NFL?
The Selective Service draft. No, for the Iranian Annihilation. I thought that war was over. No.
No, it's not over. Just because we rescued somebody? That's not the way it ends. You can't just buy it for two weeks.
Yeah, it's because everybody, we went over this yesterday, if you would watch this show. I don't. No, Trump just had to pause it so he could go to the bathroom. Stock market is surging because of it.
He had to go play golf. Right. I need two weeks off, play golf, this is very stressful. Now, both sides are making up their list now to see what both sides want.
And then in two weeks, they get together and start bombing each other again. Nice. Alright, and what's that? Energy drinks are bad for us?
Of course. And then Cigar News, a Cigar Hustlers franchise, maybe, Cigar Hustlers, yeah, franchise, may be available soon. - Ooh. - Who the fuck is approving this?
Then we have some new cigars just in time for PCA, and then the show wraps up with a What's the Score Presidential Edition. We're doing themed ones now, if you guys haven't noticed. - Yes. - But before we get started, Phil, how do I get to hear the audience comments on what we do wrong, and how do I get some of the CH Pod swag?
Well, what you have to do is... Man, where's his text message? Great. Where's my glasses?
Like and subscribe wherever you're viewing or listening to this podcast. Shout out to Rich Spieth. Spieth? I don't know.
It beats me. One of them. I don't know what you're talking about. Thanks for your order.
com where you buy one and get the second 40% off, plus free shipping on all orders over $100. A couple comments from our YouTube page. Let me do this like Mikey. Let me find the YouTube page.
Let me find it. Okay, here it is. Oh, David Hoffman, 4727. For the wig snatcher story, you said apartment, but you must have meant trailer, right?
Oh, you're reading the comments. Oh, excellent. Good job. Yeah.
Oh, did he send them to you? Yeah. Oh, wow. Yeah, but I acted like I was finding them.
Right, right, right. Gotcha. I was pulling them up. I thought I was doing that part.
Oh, do you want to do it? No, no. Oh, Phil, go on with yourself though, Phil. Alright, Mike T-Sharp 4, I'll pull with you, King.
Thank you for saying that, Mike T-Sharp 4, I know I'm the King. CW6383, her name was Teeter. Teeter. Teeter.
Teeter, yeah. From Yellowstone from yesterday. Ah, yeah, the broad on top of the barn. Yeah.
We couldn't think of her name. Yeah, we thought it was Squeaky or something else. She don't speak English. Yeah.
Right, she speaks Texan. She speaks Toiterers. Toiter. Oh, no, it's Teeter.
Teeter. I thought there was a W in there. Yeah. Jennifer Landon, daughter of Michael Landon.
Okay, Palmer doesn't know who that is. Yeah, yeah, he's Michael Landon. I know who Michael Landon is. I'm probably the only one who knows.
Oh, yeah. That's why I was looking at you. I had the camera on you. Oh, sorry.
There's a comment that must have come in after he sent you that. Oh. Well, there's no one more. Okay.
No, there's two more. CW6383, Truce, Mr. H. Palmer.
And asisting Mr. Spankiewicz, Vision, U2, Mr. Boots, Slash, Bill. That's not how you say that name.
I know. Spankiewicz? Yes, it is. That's how my phone says it.
It's not how you say that name. Greg Spankiewicz is calling. Not how you say that name. It's like that scene in Iron Man where they say his name wrong.
And the black guy goes, "Oh no, that's it. " Right. So I guess he's waving the white flag there, Palmer. That's fine.
I agree. We're done. Right. For two weeks, just like...
Two weeks. We'll reconjourn. We'll see what happens then. We were doing hair insults back and forth.
Right. The biggest thing is, he don't have any... Oh, he said truce. Truce, truce.
Sorry. I was just informing Greg on what was going on. I wasn't actually... There wasn't an insult.
We've been over this. You're a military man. You keep it nice, high, and tight. I understand.
Right, right. We appreciate your service, sir. Yes, thank you for your service. Epicurian Smokes.
I'll get our favorite one. What did we do wrong now, fellas? Right. At 9:39, the discussion of technical failures while podcasting really makes me feel like I'm part of the show.
It's the girlfriend experience of podcasts. That's what we offer here. Yeah. That is awesome.
You can, you know what? You can have the Phil and Palmer experience that's $150. No, it's $500. $500.
Sorry, I misspoke. I just spoke, $500. Any time you want. Any time you want.
Any time you want. Hang out for the day. Get insulted and called names. Yep, you just have to get your own flight.
Your own rental car. Yeah, flights are not included. Flights and lodging is your own expense. And your own rental car.
And your own rental car. Wow. And Greg makes you buy your own food here, so. Yep.
If you want to hear your comments on this show, just simply comment below and we may read it aloud on the next episode. Okay, we have one more, one more late entry from BenRoland6241, Phil with the cutting edge Navy takes, definitely can't land an F-15 Air Force on the aircraft carrier, that's Navy Flies F-18s. Yes, sorry. Man, we're getting criticized lately.
Well, that's how you know people are listening. Yeah, fact checkers. He's our military expert. Oh, wow.
Light on the expert. Light on the X. Apparently, everything you say is wrong. How long did you serve again?
Four years. Isn't that the minimum? Well, probably. Yes, it is.
I know it used to be two, but I think four. Oh! Double. Yeah.
All right, on with the news. Here we go. Oh, you forget to start the timer, by the way. It's all right, we're at six minutes.
We don't need the timer, trust me. I mean, I would start the timer now. You don't need the timer. Go ahead, the remote's right there.
Yeah, you're supposed to be Mikey. Yeah, I need to know where we're at. You're supposed to be Mikey, Greg. How do I start it?
Exactly like Mikey does. You hit stopwatch, and then start. No, just throw it on the ground, like Mikey does. Come on, stopwatch, button says stopwatch, up at the top, there's a bunch of orange buttons, one of them says stopwatch.
Oh my god. Oh my lord. Clock? Nope, stopwatch.
Hit stopwatch. There's no button that says stopwatch. Is there a timer? There's a stopwatch.
All right. Did you hit stopwatch? No. Which one?
I don't know. I don't have my glasses on. I just kept pushing buttons until it worked. That's what Mikey does.
And now you throw it on the floor and the batteries pop out. And then after the show, you leave it and let me find the batteries. Well, no. We can't find the batteries and we have to take them from the remotes here.
No, he's right here. We don't take them from the remotes. I'm worried. All right.
Automatic military draft registration takes effect in December. Uh-oh. There's 46 states that already have an automatic military draft. When you get your license when you're 18, you automatically get put into the draft.
What's the cutoff age? It should be 42 now. 42 now. Safe.
You're 43? 44. 44? Oh, well that means the younger brother would have to go.
No, because he's 42. He's 42. Oh, that's the cutoff. Yeah, that's the cutoff.
Oh, in a few months. But that's just if you want to join. The draft actually stops at 25. Oh, okay.
So, young eligible men will automatically be registered for the military draft pool starting in December. So the four states that aren't included now are automatically registered also. They snuck it into an annual defense bill that the Congress signed last year without telling anybody. Ooh.
Sneaky, sneaky. Men ages 18 to 26 must already register for selective service in case a draft is required. The last time a draft was done was? World War II?
No, I need a date, not an event. All right, Greg, you're done. 1942. Okay, military man?
I don't know the exact date. I'm going to go with 41. Let me tell you this. He's wrong.
41. Well, have you guys heard of the Vietnam War? Oh, that's right. That happened afterwards.
Yeah, that was 73. Yes, that did happen afterwards. I'm sure you guys don't remember. Damn it.
Greg was closer. During the Vietnam War. I won. Sparklers.
Hit the sparklers. Sparklers. Sparklers. We determined they don't work.
That's all the noise they make. They don't go off. Yeah. So automatic registration is already in place in 46 states, like I said, the Selective Service System 2024 report, but now they like to be called the SSS, which seems kind of odd.
Very odd. Yes. The SSS proposed a rule, which is SS before. Now they're extra?
There's one extra, yes. Well, Greg, you know this trick. Proposed a rule to the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs. I didn't even know he had one of those.
Uh, so let's see, oh, the mandatory registration applies to, there's certain groups of people. What are you doing? Don't play with your, uh, thing there. Green card holders have to register for the draft.
Who? Green card holders, people with green cards. Oh, okay. Really?
Refugees. Okay. That's the wet foot, dry foot people, Phil. Yes.
Asylum seekers. So, illegals. No, no, people who are requesting, uh, like, political asylum. They have to register for the draft.
I didn't know that. That seems weird. So many songs about this, why do they always send the poor? Why wouldn't somebody like they were coming from Mexico just be like, "I want to apply for asylum"?
Well, because everybody doesn't get it. You have to prove that you need it. I would think Mexicans would be able to prove. No, because if they get sent back to their country, they're not automatically killed.
But they're usually running from the cartel or zone, aren't they? Well, we have cartel here too, that's not really a reason. Wow. And undocumented men, which seems like a weird category.
How do you find them? They're undocumented. Right. How do you know?
Well, he does know. I mean, I know there's a thing where if you sign up for the military, you stay for so long, you get citizenship. Oh, that's a good deal. Yeah, yeah.
That is true. Thank you for backing that up. I was hoping you would. I'm a military expert.
Right. All right. Then those on a non-immigrant visas are exempt. So what is a non-immigrant visa?
That's a work visa. Opposed to an immigrant visa? Well, they're only going to be here temporarily. They're not trying to get permits.
Oh, non-immigrant. So if you're an immigrant, immigrant means you want to move here? Correct. Ah, gotcha.
I'd like to be a part of you. Huh. I would like to join and get a slice of the pie. We'll pay you my money and be poorer.
Yeah, can't you buy your way in now, too? You can, yeah. There's an old card that Trump did. There's also ways to buy a business.
As long as it's X amount of dollars and you employ four people, you buy a business, you're automatically a citizen. Wow. So many opportunities here. Many.
We like the rich people and the people that want to fight. And we send the poor to go fight. Well, they don't have the money. Well, we give them money.
Yes, but they can't buy their way to citizenship. They have to earn it. It's like Hunger Games, this is fucked. It's like Hunger Games, right.
All right, in states that haven't enacted automatic registration, men must register within 30 days of their 18th birthday according to the SS website. Of their what birthday? 18th birthday. Oh, okay.
So you have 30 days within 30 days. To register with the SS? Yes, to register with the SS. Apparently, that's right.
Well, the SSS. They accept late registration up till your 26th birthday? So you really don't have 30 days, you have 10 years. Yeah.
This is stupid. All right, now here's how you get drafted. Go ahead, tell us. People whose 20th birthday fall in the year of the draft, so like this year if they do the draft and you're 20 years old, this year you go first.
They start with the 20 year olds. 20 year olds go first. All right. So then after that becomes 21, 22, 23.
And the youngers. 24, 25, and then we go to the Youngwoods if we have to go that far. Mm-hmm. Then we go to 19.
And then those who are more than six months past their 18th birthday are last. Are last. Last. So, if we have lost one, two, three, four, five, six age groups, then we go after the children.
How many people per age group? I don't know. Your brother usually looks that up. I thought it was a pertinent question.
I'm trying to figure out why we're doing a draft. We are not doing one. They have just changed some of the rules associated with. We're currently in a war type thing.
People are curious. They want to know what's going on. Oh. Okay.
I mean, we haven't had to do one since 1973. Not the '40s like you guys thought. Right. Vietnam.
Totally forgot about that war. And we also had Korea. Oh, that's right. Well, we're about to have everyone.
You guys are really up on your history, aren't you? I didn't paint that. First of all, to be fair, I was not in the military. He was.
Well, yeah, he should know before you, obviously. He should definitely know. But you are the smarter of the two, unfortunately. Wow.
Sorry. People who are selected would be allowed to make a request for exemption or deferment. All men remaining would then go through physical, mental, and moral evaluation. Okay, Mr.
Military Expert, what are the moral evaluation questions they ask? I have no idea. Do you like killing people? I don't know.
Given this particular situation, would you shoot this man in the face? I guess it would have to be something, if you love America, are you gonna kill your friendly, are you gonna do friendly fire? You know, I don't know. Friendly fire?
It'd be more like a psychological test, I think. Well, there's a physical, mental, which would be psychological, and then moral evaluation. Yeah, so maybe they check your Facebook. Mr.
Rowland, our medical, our military expert can't answer this. Can you tell us what the moral evaluation is, please, for the military? We'll wait till he answers. Okay, we'll be here for a bit.
Would you guys join? Would I join now? I'm kind of old. I have hard times walking.
If it came down to-- If they let you join. If they attacked and I had to fight, I would fight. I don't like being told what to do by anybody. That's what my wife says.
She always goes, "You couldn't do military. " You would tell them you had a better way to do it. I would, too. Yeah, yeah, exactly.
You would break down the cost and go, "This is way too much money. " We're all going home. How about this? Because this is the only way I would rejoin.
You got to give me a signing bonus. What is this, the NBA now? No, they give signing bonuses, by the way. I think you just failed the moral evaluation part.
Maybe. You got to give me the signing bonus of at least 150k. That's it? Yeah.
All right. Well, that's a big signing bonus for the military. Well, yeah, it sounds like it. Yeah.
I don't think they would pay you. If they've listened to the show at all, and they've seen your military background. " With the feathers, you gotta wear the feather one. For 150K, I'm in.
Who are you joking? You do it for free now. Not willingly. Not willingly.
Oh, we're holding a gun to your head. Yeah. Alright. You guys can't see Greg's other hand.
I don't want you to know what that means. I don't know what that means. You said you were holding a gun to my head. Oh, gotcha.
Alright, we got a story for you over there, Mr. Phil. We're moving on. Apparently, the draft is over.
Whoa, whoa, whoa. Was this approved by Mikey? No, he hasn't seen any of this. Please, don't let it be some type of controversial question.
Oh, that'd be great. Diddy's lawyers have appealed. Oh, ho, ho, ho! I didn't do it!
They're appealing his conviction claiming freak-offs were protected by the First Amendment. First Amendment. Oh, wow. I mean, he got a case.
That the punishment does not fit the crime. Ooh. And that he's being persecuted by the American government and the American people. I mean, look, what he did was wrong, but they did not prosecute him for anything that had to do with the younger people.
Apparently, his charges just involve prostitution. right but was it real prostitution is there well certainly he's in jail no well i don't think there was any evidence yet that's why the still in jail he was found guilty i didn't get to see i didn't get to see the court case oh well i didn't watch it either i thought you watched the behind the scenes movie thing no well only so many episodes came up i didn't continue yet i need to watch the rest but um if oj didn't do it did he didn't do it well yeah but they have video of diddy Why is he doing stuff? They had the glove. Yeah, but the glove didn't fit.
Oh, it fit. If it doesn't fit, you can't commit or whatever it was. You must have quit. It's just for some reason he got some crazy carpal tunnel all of a sudden and his fingers went crazy.
Right. Don't fit my hands no more. Right. Right.
Sir, there are initials sewed to the inside. Yeah. J.? Could be anybody.
Why is it number whatever his number was in football? Yeah. J.? Yeah.
Only guy that knows less about sports than I do. Right. J. is.
Right. The drink? Is that the guy from the car rental commercial? No, Naked Gun 33 1/3.
Yeah, the actor. Oh, there you go. He was an actor. Yeah.
, but that's not, yeah, that's not the right one. He's known as being an actor. So, anyway, they are appealing and we will follow the story to see if his freak offs were protected by the First Amendment. That's freedom of speech, right?
First Amendment? Well, if you drug them first, that's not freedom of speech. Well, there has to be, there has to be proof. Well, what we're considered, what is considered a freak-off?
I mean, it's in parenthesis, it must be an official legal term. Whole lot of baby oil. I could, yeah, I could only imagine. Whole lot of baby oil.
I could only imagine what's gonna be said in this courtroom at this point. And 50's probably gonna be in the jury. He's not gonna be in the jury. That would be great.
They're not letting Diddy go either, he's at the Fort Bragg prison. Oh, that's a bad one. He's in jail? Yeah.
Yeah, he's in the big house, he's in the federal. Thing. Yeah, Fort Bragg's not nice. Yeah, Fort Bragg is serious not.
Okay. Alright, now this story actually was pulled for your brother, so appear angry. Oh, I'm upset. Family says popular energy drink played a role in a cheerleer's fatal heart condition.
Yeah, that makes sense. The family of a 17-year-old Texas cheerleader has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against a distributor of a popular energy drink saying the teenager died And, from an enlarged heart, caused by ingesting large amounts of caffeine. Define large. Yeah, they don't say exactly how much she was drinking, just that she drank a lot.
Well, if it's a kid, like, I've seen, like, okay, I mean, for instance, my son, when he was playing the Call of Duty stuff, and it was all, you know, directed towards video games. Right. He was drinking, like, two to three a day, and I told him, I was like, you can't do that. I mean, but they're, you know, kids don't know the regulation.
" That's one of the complaints about the family. The can was not, they did not say that she couldn't drink it on the can. It says not to consume more than two of these a day. Does it?
Yeah. I don't know. This particular brand I'm not familiar with either. Larissa Nicole Rodriguez, a college-bound high school student in Velasco, Texas, died in October.
Her family's attorney said at a news conference Wednesday that the Hildago County Medical Examiner determined her cause of death was an enlarged heart due to stress and large amounts of caffeine. Wow. The name of the drink is Alani Nu? Oh, yeah, I've seen that.
That's at Target, right? I think I've seen it at Target. Yeah, yeah. They had a direct correlation to the energy drink killing her.
Well, I mean, they can't prove it, but they're saying... You just said something damn near close to it. Right. Well, stress, the cans didn't cause the stress.
And what's to say, let's say it says two cans like Phil says over there. Mm-hmm. So maybe two cans is okay for me, but it's not okay for you. Okay.
So how can they, I mean, you can sue for anything, obviously, but how can they expect to get how much money they're looking? I mean, that has to be wrong, though, like, because they're basing it off of caffeine. Right. So an energy drink has what, 300 milligrams of caffeine in it?
It depends on the drink, I would imagine. It varies some. Let's, for example purposes, let's just say it says 300. How many milligrams of caffeine in a cup of coffee?
Are you looking, Greg? I'm looking at something else. Are you texting your wife like Mikey does? No, I'm looking at something else that's pertinent in the conversation.
Phil, look it up real quick. No, I love you. No, no, I love you. I would like the chicken tonight, please.
That was yesterday's phone call. To who? To your brother. Your sister-in-law likes to call during the show.
Oh, that's nice. Yes. It's uncanny. No matter what time we do it, she calls during the show.
And he's a good husband, so he picks up. Right. But if we get phone calls... You're in trouble.
We're not paying attention to the show. Yeah. We're knuckleheads or... Right.
Excuse me. We're doing a show. Okay. Daily safe limit of caffeine, 400 milligrams a day.
Toxic effects would start around 1,200 milligrams of caffeine. So at 1,200, you go bye-bye. So they're saying she drank often, that's all they're saying. So, okay, so a Red Bull has 80 milligrams, a Monster has 160 milligrams, a Bang or C4 has 300 milligrams.
So if you have two Bangs, you're exceeding the daily limit at that point. Yeah. So what's your coffee? Just regular old coffee.
- 95. One cup, eight ounces. - So that would be less. I just did the math.
- So look up this thing and see how much, the Alani Nu, and see how much caffeine's in that. Let's go with that. - Is that one word? - A-L-A-N-I space N-U.
So two words. - 200 milligrams in a 12 ounce can. - That's a big one. - Yeah.
Two of those is the daily limit. Okay, but why is it not her parents' fault for making her not letting her make it? I don't necessarily disagree with that. Child neglect?
I don't know. It said they had inadequate warnings about the serious cardiac risk that this product brings. The suit was also filed Wednesday in Hidalgo County District Court, including the allegations, and seeks more than $1 million in damages. Whoa.
The family did not respond to a request for comment. Man, that's... it's unfortunate. It is unfortunate.
It's a terrible thing. She was a very pretty girl. I saw a picture of her when I was looking at the story. But I mean, the parents have to assume some responsibility here.
I would agree. Maybe that was the initial investigation was they based it off of caffeine and stress, but they're obviously, I think when there's some type of court case, don't they dive deeper into that? Don't they do like another autopsy? Well, they've obviously looked for other things, and all they've found is caffeine as a foreign substance, but caffeine didn't cause the stress.
Maybe it's hard being a cheerleader. You've got to drink six of them to get to the point of toxic levels. Right, so let's say she drank four to six a day. That's a lot.
Oh, is that your wife? Thank God it wasn't me. It is, but I won't take it. No, no, you should for lifelike purposes here.
Yeah, yeah, for lifelike purposes. Go ahead and talk and go, I'm doing the podcast. I'm doing the podcast. No, it's actually Spam.
Oh. How did I answer that call? You want anything? No, no, I love you.
No, no, I love you. It'd be weird. I gotta tell you, I heard you singing to her today on the phone. I was.
We sing to each other all the time. What do you sing? Nonsense. Some I Love You song you were singing.
And sort of dancing. Like Barney? Like Barney? No, no.
A little more obscene. Oh, like a Spanish love song. So you speak Spanish. No.
Sing it. Just as the dirty words. I just figured out what the graphic's gonna be for the show. Mia Moore.
Greg's singing Mia Moore. That's gonna be the title of the episode. Mia Moore! So anyway, so our parents don't notice they're buying a case a day?
I agree, there's some responsibility there too. Six to twelve things, so every two days, Mom and Dad, I need more Alani Nu. Man, they gotta feel horrible. Because they probably, you know what?
I think I've seen that before at like Sam's. I've seen it. I only see it at Target. And I've never tried one.
It's like a red can with like teal writing. All the flavors are decorated different. Yeah. Yeah, I think I've seen that.
And first of all, I don't even know how Sam's is allowed to sell a case of it to the regular public. I mean, that's just asking for trouble. You're not supposed to drink a case a day. It's like, what, do we need a sticker on everything?
Do not shove an ass? I think they sell it by the case at Target. I mean, my wife drinks too much Celsius, she can buy a 12-pack of that at Publix. You know what, they're probably gonna win this thing, too, because, I mean, if the lady that sued McDonald's for, it didn't say, "hot on the coffee cup," won?
That's not why she won. What was it? Well, if you actually read into it, there was extensive shortcomings in their procedures. That machine was broken for a long time.
It got way, way past the regular levels of heat. - Oh, really? - They never repaired it. She requested to have compensation for her medical bills, which was like 30-some-odd thousand dollars.
Refused, refused, refused, and that's when she brought the million-dollar lawsuit, because they wouldn't pay the medical bills, and they were found-- - Burn vagina. - Yeah, it was. And if you ever saw the photos, first of all, it was an elderly lady, she put it in between her legs, the lid popped up. Those burns were serious.
Serious. - She's still alive? - Yeah. - No, she died of the burns.
- Oh, actually, she might be dead, I don't know. She was old. Burned vagina. Oh, man.
Someone was going to say it, I don't remember. Yeah, because you said the other word. Right, because you said the V word. Right, I got excited.
All the other blood went out of my head. All right, you got a video for us, Greg? Yeah, there's a video my brother sent me. You're just supposed to say it's from you.
Yes, I got a video. Yeah, I got a video. Nobody knows anything about movie magic. Where's the sparks?
I want the sparks. We're not getting the sparks. They don't work, Greg. They don't work.
I didn't feel like setting them up. Yeah, apparently I have a video of some men losing their mind at a ring doorbell. He said he sent you a script of what to say. Oh, no, there was nothing sent, just the video.
This is going to be great. He didn't send anything else? Nope. He said, I watched it, if you want me to talk.
You want to know what he did send me? He did send me everything that Phil said. So I have that. You want me to repeat that?
No, he sent you the wrong one. Yeah, look, OK. He said, I watched the video. He goes, what'd you watch it for?
So I could talk about it. He goes, no, I sent Greg what to say. Like and Subscribe wherever you're viewing or listen to this podcast. Shout out to Rich Spieth, thanks for your order.
I mean, I got all that. Oh, that's OK. Oh, he's making Greg check on us. He sent the wrong stuff.
All right, Phil, have you watched it over there? Sure. No, really, have you? I didn't get no video.
Oh, you didn't? He sent it in M&M Productions. No, he didn't. Yeah, he did.
This is amazing. At 12:30, where you were cutting grass. Oh. I was going to ask you to go by and cut mine, but I'm afraid you really don't have to pay you.
Do I have to listen to it? So we don't have any background on this video, we're just going to like... Well, we're going to watch it and then we'll talk about it, once he watches it, because you and I have already seen it. Who's that, McLovin?
He says who he is, apparently he's a big man. It's his neighborhood. Right, yeah, constantly. What is that, a bee?
But there's no... Here we go, okay, watch it real quick. Can you open the door, please? Or what?
I watched the timer. You have a ring, but I'm going to put my finger on the people. What do you mean? You can't see.
Let me know when you're done. Figured I checked on something? It's like a minute long. I don't know what you want, Matt.
I'm watching it. Get out of my house. Open this f***ing door. Where's your daughter, man?
Where's your daughter, man? What are you talking about? Where's your daughter? Just dead air on podcast.
No, when I edit, this will be where they see the video. If you don't even know, so they get to watch it. Open this door, I'm breaking all that down. You understand me?
leave my house you don't see we're acting like we're watching can you leave my house please you open the door please you have nothing to do with my house can you leave my house oh my name is right off of it i don't know who you are you don't belong this That's for sure. This is my neighborhood. I feel like this is Keanu when he finally loses it. Yeah, I live there.
He's just done. So it's a video of a guy going crazy on somebody's ring doorbell and I'm guessing he thinks there's something going on with the guy's daughter or something? He's looking for a daughter. He's looking for this guy's daughter thinking something's going on and it's his neighborhood.
He's dressed in a black trench coat like he's the police guy for the area or something. Or the SS. Or the SS. says maybe once another guy the guy won't let him in so he tries to kick the door he eventually I don't know why I didn't call the police you know it's a full minute 30 seconds I'm calling the cops slaps the whole Bruce Lee on that thing I like when he kicked the door like I thought he got stung by me so it I thought he's testing the door and he's like, knock this corner, knock that corner.
Yeah, like there's different levels of volume. Yeah, he's looking for a loose spot or a hollow part of the door. But whatever door that guy is, it's a hell of a door. Right.
So we don't know what happened after that because there's no second half to the video. Well, another neighborhood watch guy, another problem. It's my neighborhood. Right.
Alright, moving into cigar news, Tenderbox International is relaunching their franchise program. Oh boy. There was a time when Tenderbox was one of the most well-known names in cigar retailing, thanks to a franchise program that brought the name from coast to coast. After being dormant for roughly a decade, the company is relaunching its franchise program, opening the doors for passionate entrepreneurs to align with a brand that has defined cigar culture The company said in a press release, Tenderbox was founded more than a century ago and has been owned by the Blumenthal family for the past 50 years.
Are you familiar with the Blumenthal family, Greg? I'm familiar with the business model. Mike and I almost bought one. Oh!
Here it is. Now under the leadership of Rob Blumenthal, screw the rest of this in. Why didn't you buy? It just didn't make sense to us.
At the time, we were already seasoned tobacconists. We understand how to run a business. Why would we give them a piece of the take on a monthly basis? So it wasn't even at the beginning, like you and Mike would go, you know, we should sell cigars, you know, there's this thing we can get into.
No, there was another retailer that was looking to sell, we took a couple of meetings with him, and he said that, you know, and we were, the price was agreeable, but he said that if you take it on, because I'm an honorable man, and good for him, you would have to honor the contract that I have with Tinderbox, and realistically, why would we? Why would we give them a percentage of what we already know how to do? Makes sense. Greg, you're supposed to say, are you serious?
Sorry. They have 21 locations across the country. That's probably way down from their original numbers. They were all over the place.
Does, is Tinder, well, I've been to a Tinder box. We do business with three or four of them still now. I've been to, they're not very big. Are they kind of like a lowball Louie type deal?
They can be. Free, are they, I've never been to one. They're not freestanding. Usually they're in strip malls.
Yeah, I went to the one in Charlotte. It was in the mall. Yep, that's correct. Have you been in the ones that we do business with?
I don't think that I have. It's a good model for somebody that needs tools. You know what I mean? If they don't have the tools in their toolbox to get certain things set up, it also is very, very easy to bridge those relationships with brands that you may not have the ability to do business with because you're dealing with a much bigger name.
So, franchise-wise, they give you the complete map on how to do it all. " Yeah, no, they do help. They buy a McDonald's or a God's chicken place. I remember when I worked for Papa John's, we were the training franchise store, whatever you want to call it, but we trained all the new franchise owners.
Oh, they would come there and you show them how to make a pizza. Yeah, yeah, basically, like Mary, we would teach them how to do inventory, we, you know, everything about our cash drops. One, two, three, here's when it gets complicated, we're up to six. Hey, what was crazy about Papa John's, you're like, just buying in the first year, you're gonna make a million.
First year. And then after that, it grows. It was crazy. I was like, so you literally, I think it was like, I think you had to invest like 200k.
Can we make pizzas? I feel like your numbers have got to be off. No, you would invest 200k and then there was like a payback program or something. And you would net a milli inside a year?
Yeah. So 5x your money for a $200,000 investment in one year. Yeah, but then there's certain rules like you can't open up in a certain radius of one or whatever. So sometimes it was hard in a, you know, like in Central Florida it's really hard to open one because there's one in every city, right?
So where are you going to open it? Lake Ellen? Well, if there's not one there, apparently they need pizza. Yeah, make $800,000.
Yeah, it's crazy, man. Can we evict some of these people and put a pizza plate in? No. There's a lot of money in pizza.
There's a lot of money in pizza. Anyways. So are we on like a list of approved vendors for Tinderbox because we do business with two or three of them? I honestly don't know how that works as far as that aspect of it.
That'd be nice. Somebody buys into one, we get a phone call. Obviously, the ones that we do business with, the retailer themselves is purchasing the product, Tinderbox as a whole. Right, yeah, they don't, I think they just keep the name.
I don't think they are affiliated at this time. Isn't that where Lightweight Heavy's at? Or maybe came from or something? I remember Tinderbox.
He might have been at one, but not now. Now he's at Capital Cigars, I believe. Oh, okay. Capital Cigars, Government Cigars, something in that area.
All right, Lure Cigars, how many minutes we had there? Uh, 36. Just add six to whatever the clock says. It's not tough.
Well, I didn't know we were at six. Yeah, but he said when we discovered that the clock wasn't running, it had already been running for six minutes. Thank God Greg's here. He pays attention.
Not like your brother doesn't pay attention to the show. Well, at this point, he might be taking a nap during the show. Usually, yeah, he's close. I think he did doze yesterday, I think so.
I don't think so. All right, Luwer Cigars announces the Wahoo as its PCA 2026 exclusive. Ooh, I like Luwer now. LuCross Luwer Cigars will release a new blend at the 2026 PCA convention and trade show next week, but retailers will need to attend the show to order it.
The Wahoo is made up of a Mexican San Andreas wrapper covering a Nicaraguan binder from Esteli and fillered tobaccos from Esteli and Jalapa in Nicaragua. Like the rest of the company's portfolio, those cigars are being made at the La Tabla Calera factory in Esteli, Nicaragua. Lure uses a fishing theme for its brand, the Wahoo's latest line to be named after a fish. Yep.
I see this brand all over social media. It's all over the place. Very popular brand. Yep.
Did you not smoke one of the fish sticks when we had them? Um, we gave you one. I might have. It was that little cigar?
I might have. It is good. Yeah, your brother likes some of them, but not all of them, so maybe we talk to Lou at the show, I don't know. Yeah.
I'm gonna get a Wahoo, Lou's my friend, I'll get a Wahoo. Can you get more fish sticks? You can buy 'em. Talking to me?
Okay, I'll give you 20 bucks, can you buy me one? I'll buy you one for $20. Buy me two, 20 bucks. Let's just go back to the one.
Just talk to Lou for me, okay? There'll be two box-pressed torpedo vitolas of the Wahoo at launch, both packaged in 10-count craft paper bundles, The Wahoo Ono and the Wahoo Kingfish, the Ono will be limited to 1,700 cigars while the Kingfish will be limited to 2,500 cigars. Now they are both the same price because they are basically the same size. Those are really limited.
That's a pretty small run. He's not a huge company. Yeah, he's not a big, yeah. Alright, so guess the price.
Both cigars are the same price. 5x52. Good, Greg. No, you go.
Alright, uh, fourteen bucks. Fifteen dollars. Sixteen dollars. Greggy wins.
Hit the sparklers. Sparklers. Sparklers. Come on, Keanu.
The Onu will be limited to 1,700 cigars while the kingfish way around this. Onu is a Hawaiian name for Wahoo, which is also something referred to as Pacific Kingfish. Yeah, it's a good fish. Lou says, "I'm a fan of San Andreas and was excited to work with this leaf again for this limited run," said Lou Cross.
Blue Cross, founder of Lewis Cigars, at a press release. The point to the torpedo tip reminded me of offshore fishing with my dad, specifically the long, tapered body of the sport fish, the Wahoo. Bundles of the Wahoo will be shown off during the 2026 PCA convention, a trade show taking place April 18th to April 8th, this is April 18th to the 10th in New Orleans, I feel we've been doing a lot of typos lately. 18th to the 10th, it's back to the future.
Yes, a lot of typos, because I just cut and paste these stories, I don't rewrite them. Oh. Nice. Yes.
Well, as long as we give credit to Half Wheel, it's okay, and they don't mind. Of course. Well, it's good exposure for them. Not like Cigar Coop.
You're not allowed to use his stories unless you have permission. That's silly. That's exposure for him if you give him credit. Say it again, Greg.
He's silly. Say it right under the camera. That's silly. All right.
They are scheduled to be shipped to retailers in mid-May. Lures distributed by Valakari Cigars. All right. Our friend Prince Abubabu at El Septimo is adding the Queen Shiba Conquest Edition.
Oh, this is going to be great. Oh, the Abububi. Abubabu. El Septimo has announced that it will be expanding the Queen of Shiba brand with a new blend.
He follows me on social media. He likes to comment on my Instagram stuff. Nice. Yeah, nice man.
Abubabu. Formerly, the cigar is called Queen Shiba Conquest Edition Series 2. Offered in a 6x54 Toro X Tribatola that uses an undisclosed wrapper over an Ecuadorian Habano binder and fillers from the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Honduras, and Nicaragua. All of them.
Everywhere you gotta move. The blend is described as having notes of white pepper, dark cocoa, black coffee, toasted oak, and exotic African spices. Exotic African Spices. It's in parentheses, so that's real.
What is an exotic African spice, and how would I know if I'm tasting it? I don't know. When you're in the coroner's office, they might find it. El Septimo's website lists the price of the cigar at...
How much is a Queen Shiba, gentlemen? Since Greg's the winner, he gets to go first. No, you go first. He is opting to let you go first.
Okay, El Septimo, 30 bucks. This is the million dollar lighter situation, right? Yes, yeah, Prince Abu Babu loves all his products in there. You said 20?
30. You said 30? Very frugal buys. I'm gonna go 35.
He got it on 30, right on the note. Wow, well done. Sparklers. Sparklers.
The success of Queen Shiba showed us that the market truly wants quality, identity, and experiences, said Prince Abu Babu. Is he really a prince? I don't know, he just called me. He says he is.
It's Zeya Yunin, but we like Abu Babu. If he's got a monkey, an elephant, and he's a sultan, he's definitely a prince. Oh, I want a monkey. CEO Elsa Timo, in a press release, with the Conquest Edition, we have delivered a cigar that not only meets that expectation, but raises this in a product built to perform.
Elsa Timo says a cigar will be shown off at the 2026 PCA Convention Trade Show, let's see what date he has on this story. Back to the Future. Which takes place 18th to the 20th. They got it right on this one.
There we go. In New Orleans, a ship date has not been announced. The original Queen of Sheba is a 6x60 Gordo that uses Costa Rica, the Dominica Republic Tobacco. Hmm.
All right, now it's time for the industry's favorite game. What's the score? I did it. We're at 41.
I did it. I did it. I didn't have to be told twice. I did it.
I did it. Alright, today's cigar. Cigar review, oh, I didn't, I didn't get the, who reviewed it. Oh boy.
Oh, too bad, you don't get to know. It's a little different today. It's burning information. Undisclosed.
Cigar review is the Gurkha Trump Presidente Cigar. Oh, this is probably the guy from Deltona. I'm pretty sure it was Patrick. Oh, okay, Patrick.
Patrick Lagrid. Oh, it's good. He's gonna give it a nice number. Somebody, somebody give it a number.
Go ahead and go first there, Phil. Jinx Pinch Poke, you owe me a Coke. Let's go 75. 75?
Yeah, your turn. 75. We've had as low as 47. The numerical system.
And as high as 95. I'm going to go 80. Alright, country of origin is Nicaragua. Nobody wants to admit they made this, so there's no factory.
Tickle Factory. Wow. Beg your pardon? That's a hell of a statement there.
You okay? I'm good. Well, that's just what half wheels up. Wrappers from Ecuador, Binders Nicaraguan, Filler Nicaraguan.
It is 8 inches by 49. It's a double Corona for $15. It came out in January 2017, and they smoked 3 cigars. 75.
I'm gonna stick with 80. Clue number 1. The cigar offers a dynamic and evolving flavor profile from start to finish. I'm sorry.
Opening with cedar and chocolate before transitioning into notes of peanuts, citrus peel, creaminess, and pepper. Each third brings noticeable shifts, keeping the experience engaging and layered rather than one-dimensional. Mmm, dynamic. I'll go up one, 76.
Just one. I'm going to stay at 80. I'm only going up one. Clue number two: the construction is highlighted by a consistently strong draw.
Slightly open, but right in that sweet spot for most smokers. Combined with its full body and medium-plus to medium-full flavor, the cigar delivers a rich, satisfying smoking experience and holds up well over its long burn time. This really sounds like Charlie, so maybe... That totally sounds like Charlie.
You kidding me? We're gonna build, we're gonna build, we're gonna build, and then just rip the carpet right up from underneath you. God, if it's Charlie, he's probably going to get a nine, dude. Why?
Only if you like, maybe he's not a fan. Well, maybe he likes the nines. Maybe he's a biting guy. Who knows?
Maybe. Yeah, I got a stick at 76. I'm going up. I'm going to get 85.
Oh, see, he knows Charlie. Are you cheating? Are you looking up over there? You better not be looking it up.
No, this is the shop. They've got printer issues. Well, they can wait. Yeah.
Five more minutes. Who else is upstairs? I'm the only person that would contact me for printer issues right now. Oh, okay, that's about that.
Alright, third clue: the most consistent drawback is the dryness in the flavor profile, which shows up in every third and slightly distracts from the overall enjoyment. In addition, some samples experience burn inconsistencies, particularly in the second third, which required attention and impacted the overall performance. I like how Greg was surprised on the Gurkha. - That there's construction problems and performance issues?
- Yeah, it's dry, burn issues. - Oh, go figure, that never happens. - They were speaking so highly about it at first, though, I mean, it was like, come on. - Well, I'll explain to you the same thing I'll explain to them.
The way I do this is two positives and one negative. - Yeah. - Oh. - They might be out of order, they might not be, well, I was gonna say, might not be true, but no, they're true.
- So you're sandbagging over there, you're cherry picking. - No, they know that, I will know. - But I don't know that, I'm not a regular on this show. - You should listen to the show.
- You're a regular. - Watch the clip, something for God's sakes, we do it here. I'm not participating, I don't want to listen. You could be right here watching the show all the time if you want to tell.
Are you going to watch the show with your wife later? No. She's out of town. Once she gets back?
No. Are you going to watch the show? No. He can't handle not having any… It's not good.
I understand. Not good. Chafing. A lot of chafing.
A lot of chafing. Here you go to the doctor. The doctor. Oh, wow.
The massage doctor? The special doctor, yeah. 76. Doctor, doctor.
Yes, please. Come in. Lay on the table. Okay, doctor, honey.
I'm gonna go back down to 80. You're at 76 over there, Feathers? Yeah. And you're down to 80.
All right. Final thought. This is the last thing. After this, we give the final thing.
And this will be a negative or a positive? This is their final thought. It's taken directly from the review. Word for word.
All right. So, okay. I'm extremely confident in saying that no cigar we've ever reviewed has led to more readers making up their minds about the cigar before reading the review than this one. There's the politics of Trump and the politics of Gurkha.
Some would feel naturally inclined to like one band or perhaps both bands, for others it is the complete opposite. Whoever your thoughts are on the bands and the things that are associated with it is a decent enough cigar though. I suspect for most that probably won't matter. Now they had two different bands on this cigar, there was one pro-Trump, one against Trump.
Interesting. Same cigar, two different bands. Well, they're not gonna, you know, get the market share. Right.
Alright, final score, gentlemen. Bootsy. 77. Sticking with 80.
He went the right way, it's 89. Wow, what a score. What? Not Charlie.
I'm going to say not Charlie. No, maybe it is Patrick. Who knows. But they're super nice.
The cigar wasn't bad. Apparently not. You smoked it? No, I didn't smoke it.
But I mean, from the things he said, it wasn't terrible. It just had a little bit of a construction issue and was a little dry. If anybody can find these, please send us three. We would love to smoke and review it on the Patreon.
I've got guys in Florida Cigar Club that post this and then I have to take it down because we don't do politics and everybody gets bent out of shape. Maybe we can find it. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. It's awesome.
It is. Some people just can't handle even seeing his face. Right. All right, on the 24th of April, we've got a big event upstairs with Bentley, Besa, and Hooten Young.
I'm going to be in a dunk tank. John Carney's going to be in the dunk tank. Greg's going to make hamburgers. I am?
I don't know. I'm just adding. Greg's going to be in the dunk tank. I'm not going in the dunk tank.
He's not going in the dunk tank. Come on, Greg. It's for the kids. Can't get his boots wet.
Yeah, it's for the kids. Greg doesn't get in the dunk tank. For the charity. We're going to have Hooten and Young in the dunk tank.
Yeah, and the base of boys. And the base of boys. It's going to be a giant dunk tank. We're all getting in it.
So it's at 6pm, it's a Friday night, come in and maybe you can try to get me wet. If not, I'm going to yell at you and call you names. And we would have just had a remembrance for our dear friend John White who passed last Easter. Thank you everybody that came out.
Thank you. Greg, are you going to be anywhere? Have you got any appearances in personal marriage? We've got PCA coming up, that's going to be chaos right around the corner.
We will have constant shows all week long. We're not going to miss a day. You're going to do recording while we're at PCA? Not during, it'll be at night or before or after, but like we're doing some in the car on the way there.
Oh, Lord. Okay. We're five days a week now, brother. We got a show, no stop.
We can't let Phil sit here. How are you going to put all these tripods in the truck? We have smaller cameras that your brother has spent probably your money on. I gotta go look at the books again.
Yeah. These are things he's already had for the sports. Ah. We're adapting them, but I don't know who paid for this.
Are we all just gonna get a pair of his glasses and wear the glasses? Wouldn't that be nice? And look at each other? No, he's just gonna be looking at me and you.
First person perspective for everything? Yeah. Right. That would be great.
Hey, I just saw some guy's credit card on the screen, look at that. That'd be, there'd be a lot of editing though. Palmer would be pissed off when he comes back. No, no, he says he's going to do all the editing for all that stuff.
Oh. That's not happening. Yeah, we'll see how that works out. All right, guys.
Thank you very much for episode 507. And thank you, Greg, for filling in for Mike. Thank you, Greg, for filling in once again. You're a regular fill-in now.
It was your pleasure. You're like, I can't think of her name. Who used to do the Johnny Carson show when he and Johnny couldn't make it? Karen.
Cher? Karen. Why'd you think Cher? Are you thinking of Cher?
No, I thought you said Cher. It's like Karen, doesn't sound like Sharon. The lady comedian with the white hair. Betty White?
Carol Burnett? Carol Burnett has red hair. Not anymore. Not anymore.
Well, she dead. Is she dead? I don't know. I don't know which Q-tip you're talking about.
All right. It's not a big deal. All right, guys. Thanks.
We gotta go. Bye.
