ACHP Episode 574 The Sun Goes Off and She Took Half My Sandwich

ACHP Episode 574 The Sun Goes Off and She Took Half My Sandwich

Episode Summary

Episode 574 of A Cigar Hustler's Podcast has host Mike Palmer joined by last-minute fill-in Triple G (Phil is off "shooting" his next fake horror movie) with Mike Szczepankewicz on engineering and eating lunch. The first half is pure listener interaction: shout-outs to fans, CHPod merch talk (the "You Went the Wrong Way" One-Armed Bandit shirt, the ongoing auction for Phil's butterfly mask), and an explanation of why the crew is building its own community site at chpod.com rather than relying solely on YouTube, given how easily tobacco-adjacent content gets taken down. They also praise Creekside Cigars' operation and culture after a recent visit.

News segments include the August 2, 2027 "Great North African Eclipse" — a 6 minute 23 second totality crossing Spain, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Yemen, with Luxor as a premier viewing spot — plus riffs on the Russian Znamya sun-reflector project, Elon Musk's orbital mirror idea, and the movie Real Genius. Crime stories follow: a former pastor, David Vandermeer, charged two decades later with murdering his wife Bernadette at Angels Landing in Zion National Park (with his alleged girlfriend seated beside him at the memorial), and a 67-year-old Florida man arrested for battery after hitting a Waffle House customer with a frozen squirrel — with a box of backup frozen squirrels in his truck.

On the cigar side, the guys cover Artesano Del Tabaco's Viva La Vida Connecticut Churchill (7x54, made at AJ Fernandez Cigars with an aged Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper, shipping to PCA 2026 pre-order retailers) and United Cigars expanding its Independence line — the former Firecracker limited blend — into regular-production Robusto and Toro vitolas in 12-count metal tins from the Arnold André Dominican factory, at $10.50 and $11. They also vent about a manufacturer who once collected retailers' customer emails and is now selling never-released 2015 Subculture Studio cigars exclusively through his own new retail shop, and relay a note from Pete Johnson of Tatuaje about the FDA user-fee lawsuit.

The episode closes with "What's the Score?" using Brooks Whittington's 2013 half-wheel review of the Liga Privada Unico Series UF-13 Dark pre-release (Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper, Brazilian mata fina binder, Honduran filler, 5.5x52, 11 cigars smoked). Clues cite espresso, dark chocolate, cocoa, oak, leather, earth, nuts and pepper, flawless construction, and harshness if overpuffed — with the reviewer calling it the quintessential Liga Privada blend, better than UF-4, No. 9, T-52, Feral Flying Pig, Velvet Rat and Dirty Rat. The actual score: 95.

Welcome to Cigar Hustler Podcast, where cigars are just a starting point. Join me, Mike Palmer, as your host, and in the—oh, things have changed. Filling in today, last minute, is Triple G. We're here again.

And then over in engineering, we don't have a Phil McGuffey, we have a Mike Szczepankewicz eating his lunch. As we dive into the latest cigar industry news, sports, current events, business, and whatever crazy stories are making headlines, whether you're a seasoned cigar smoker or just looking for entertaining conversation, expect honest opinions, plenty of laughs, And a few unexpected detours along the way. What the hell was that? You opened a beer?

Now he's drinking beer. All right, like I say, a little special ode to El, Adam, Jill, our biggest fan, and Kennedy, who's probably a little too young to notice, but thank you for watching. Who are these people? I've never heard that name before.

No, no, these are children of a fan of the show, and I told them I would say hello to them in the opening. Oh, very nice. Yeah, so they're listeners. Yes, they are listening.

Well, Jill's an avid listener. The other three, not so much. It's probably for the best. Yeah, the two-year-old might be a little stretched, but she doesn't pay attention and then goes away.

All right, I had an announcement. We're not doing that because he's not here. On today's show, the sun goes away on August 2nd, 2027. What story for you, Michael?

Yay. Probably should not take your girlfriend to your wife's funeral. Generally, it's not a good idea. She may miss her, too, though.

I'll have a waffle hold the frozen squirrel. Okay. Then in cigars, a new firecracker Vitola, Artesno Del Taco releases a new one, and then we play What's the Score? Ah, very good.

But first, Mikey, tell us all about CH Pod and the Patreon show. Like and subscribe, we're reviewing and listening to the show. com for all your CH Pod swag. Our latest release is the "You Went the Wrong Way" One-Armed Bandit shirt.

People started posting that yesterday. Yeah, T-Money was posting that. T-Money. The current auction for Phil's...

That concluded last night, didn't it? Butterfly mask. No, at the end of the month. Yeah, it's 30 days.

Are you sure? Yes. All right. Why, do you think you have the winning bid?

No, like I think I actually, out of curiosity, I went on your website I went to our website, just to see the availability of product and shirts like that, and I thought that I saw the clock at zero days. Why are you checking our website? Stonker. Yeah.

There was a question that somebody asked me about a shirt that you're selling, the pressure is-- Privilege. There you go. Love you. They were curious about it.

Oh, nice. I think I should make a shirt of her on like the phone with like a FaceTime, that'd be great. That should be good. Yeah.

Yeah. Oh, you're on the show? Oh, you're recording. Let's see here.

Were you in the comments already? Our current leading winner, our current bidder, at 45 doll hairs, is one Mr. Corey. Are you good over there?

The microphone went inside my shirt. Holy moly. It started making noises. Jeez Louise.

You know, I'm trying to fix it. I was trying to be discreet. You had to pay attention. com a cigar hustlers podcast this week we reviewed crown heads what did we review macarena the oh the oz macarena and yeah some comments from the show let's see there's a lot of them today let's get into the The comments.

The comments. Newest responded and unresponded. Let's see. " Listen, the only way that you could have gotten Phil on the show is if you had pre-invited him prior to.

Now, we take this as a sympathy invite. And we won't let you bring him on at this point. Oh, but he really wants to be part of it. So, yeah, but like you said, it's like you call and go, hey, if he would call, hey, can I bring my brother with me to the party?

Is it cool if I bring so-and-so like, well, it's not cool, but you've put me in the position where I have to say, okay, put me on the spot. Now I had to, so, so if you want, Phil, we, you know, we will handle that. We can coordinate that for you. Yeah, but he's not joining this show.

It's not happening. At Michael CZ Cigar Guy, aka Chai Town, Boots, perfect timing with the Willy Wonka song, Go Left, Go Right. I didn't even hear him sing that song. I didn't either.

Hmm. Maybe I sang it with him. I don't even know. I didn't know there was a Willy Wonka song.

Yeah. There's definitely Willy Wonka songs. Oh, yeah. It was a musical, wasn't it?

Many songs in that film. Loompa, loompa dee do, I have another riddle for you. - Quiero grab dancing, big rolling golden egg, I mean there's a lot. - Yeah.

- Loompa, loompa, loompa dee do. - The voice of an angel. - Thank you. - David Hasselhoffman says, "The satellite mirror thing sounds like Dr.

" - That's right. - That's what I was saying. - That's exactly right. - Yeah.

- The daylight at nighttime for $10,000 a minute. - I just want, you're gonna be the first person to experience it. - Nice. - Yeah.

- Where are you gonna get $10,000? - I'm gonna just I just charge the card, baby. We have an app. I have plenty of corporate credit cards.

Spread it across many. Beautiful. What's this solar powered lighting? Remember last Tuesday at one o'clock in the morning when your house was on fire?

Yeah. That was me. Do you guys remember the movie? I think it was called Elementary with Val Kilmer.

Great movie. Great movie. Elementary. Give me a little more to go on.

It's like they were in college and they used laser beams. Oh, yeah. I don't think it was called Elementary, but I remember the movie. It was a great movie.

I remember the film, yeah. What was it called? I don't know. He'll look it up.

Now I have to look it up. But they exploded the popcorn. At the end, they took the laser beam to the guy's house and did the popcorn. Val Kilmer film in college.

That should be good enough. I want to get to that level. Real genius. Real genius.

Great movie. So, here's what I'm going to do. " And we can relive Real Genius. He'll get the reference, too, you don't even need to give him the title of the film.

And he'll be like, that is the craziest thing I've ever heard in my life. I'm in, he'll say. We can make this work. We can make this work.

Laser. I don't know who you are, but I feel like we can make it work. You know, that kid in that movie, I never saw him in anything else again. His co-star?

Well, yeah. Obviously not Val Kilmer, he was in many things. Right, he was in many things. How do you know he wasn't in anything else?

I think he was. I said I never saw him in anything else. Hang on, so what is it? It's Real Genius.

You look that up, I'll get to the next comment. Cast of real genius. @coreydavis says, man, I could really feel the enthusiasm on the what's the score today. Chills.

I'm good. Yeah, it's true. Listen, look, I had people comment on some of my posts where it was like, and I'm just like, damn, that was terrible. And I didn't pick up on it until after I posted.

So, yeah, we need some enthusiasm when we do this, you know? If we had a board, I'd pre-record something. We gotta ham it up for the people. Ham it up.

Total ham it up. Total ham it up. Music and everything. Music.

@markparmler570 says, "Phil Boots, Phil Burt, Al is right about the candy sellers. The people running it already get paid usually by the state or some government agency to care for those kids. " All right. Whatever.

That's where I can choose to either give money or not give money. You still get a candy bar, aren't you? Yeah, it's a transactional thing. Right.

Not like you don't, you know, you're not trying to buy the child. And I'm a pushover for the kids, man. So whatever they're doing, it's working. Are we talking about kids that like sell candy to like for fundraisers and stuff like that?

Yeah. There used to be a guy that rented in this building before we owned it that actually had a business where he would put the kids on the street He's selling the candy bars, and you know the donations would be XYZ, 'cause you always give more than what you actually pay for the candy bars, it was a job, like they got paid an hourly wage, and he collected the funds. Hey, good for that, you know, whatever, it worked, the kids got it. Did he pay the kids?

Yeah, he paid them. Okay, well Boot said the kids never make any money. Well, but this was a scam. This was a thing, yeah.

I mean, if it's for a fundraiser, of course the kids aren't gonna get paid. Right, but Boot said people that run like halfway houses or homes where they take in children, And they don't give them any money, but they have to bring money in. Yeah, like Oliver Twist, you've got to pick a pocket or two. Sort of like Oliver Twist.

You've got to pick a pocket or two. Excuse me, sir. Can I have some more? Get out there and earn, kid.

Yes, sir. I mean, when I was a kid, I used to sell coupon books. That was a hustle. I did that.

For you or for the school? I don't know. It was like, I got into like a van with a bunch of other kids and we sold. Oh, that could have turned out bad.

yeah you got in a van i got it free candy i got news for you man i could have been gone for three or four days before my parents were like oh yeah for you where's the other one isn't yeah didn't we have two not even mikey where's the other one where did the second one go listen no lie dude i it's funny as i get older i look back and reflect on my life and i'm wondering like how did i survive any of this like unscathed it just doesn't even make any sense i'm being serious It's like a tornado came to town and destroyed the entire neighborhood, and there's that one little house that was just intact, and that's my life. I just don't, I don't get it. I really don't. It's okay, you know, whatever.

This guy lived. You know, we were talking about on Creekside, my first car accident, I totaled the car, and I walked, I just went back to work. I didn't even, right? Yeah, no, that one you were okay.

The second one- The second one, I was more messed up. Yeah, so, horrible. The kid leaves work because he gets his feet wet or some shit like that. Yeah, socks.

I had wet socks. Right, so he winds up being T-boned. He calls me up. He's like, "Hey man, I was in a car accident, but I'm okay.

" Like, he's right up the street. I go get him. He goes back to work. No problem.

Fast forward, was it like two years? Maybe three? Not even. Right?

Yeah. He leaves because his socks are wet, right? " Almost in the same location, same road. Close, yeah.

Yeah, wow, both cars were destroyed. If your socks are ever wet, I'm not getting in the car with you. Don't get in the car with Mikey. I just deal with the wet socks now.

It's not worth it. Yeah, it's too dangerous. Yeah. @ihearttriplegmikeybdpfo Everybody.

Everybody, that's a big one. BDP is smooth and competent, but as the face of Powstanie, I expect nothing less. You are the face of Powstanie. Mike Palmer.

No, you are the face of Powstanie. Mike Palmer. I am. You're BDP.

That's right. You're just Triple G. I'm not even in this industry. What are you talking about?

Hey, we both have names with just letters. How come he doesn't have one with just letters? Because mine would be FU. That might stick.

You shouldn't have put that out there. FU says... I heart FU. I heart FU.

Hard F. U. " So, it was, it really was, it was a great, I know I already said this, but man, they're, dude, they are fine-tuned operation, they're doing a lot of things right, top notch retailers, huh? Yeah.

Cool. Yeah, good culture there, amazing. Amazing. We're changing the name of the shop to Creek Hustler.

Yeah, Creek. It's not a rip or anything. No. Yeah.

Creekside Hustler. Creekside Hustler. Right. It's a little different.

So it's 20%. Sounds borderline murdery. Creekside Hustler. Who did it?

The Creekside Hustler. Slide into their Discord. Like, oh, place an order now. Go check it out.

But you're not the same. No, we're not the same. We're once removed. So, yeah, no, but all joking aside, man, they really, like, it gives you hope for the industry.

Right. You know what I mean? Yeah. I was like, okay, this is pretty dope, so.

Awesome. At Florida Man, 1888, thanks Mikey for the compliment. It is always a sign of respect as to why I stand, and thanks to Palmer calling me a woman. You guessed the wrong way.

Did I call him a woman? I guess so. I don't remember that. Why would you call him a woman?

I have no idea. Is it a difference to him always standing, always standing when he shakes a hand? Correct. Yes.

Well, it doesn't go unnoticed is the bottom line. Yeah, yeah. For sure. It doesn't go unnoticed for people that are paying attention.

Right. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, that's why I try to stand up when you shake hands.

You don't shake hands sitting down. Yeah. Yeah. It's true.

At Datacash, 2004, Russia tried the sun reflector idea back in the early 90s called the Zenmaya Project. Oh. The illumination was roughly equivalent to the brightness of a full moon. Yeah, because it was Russian, bro.

We're American. Right, we have better mirrors. Yeah, we're going to be able to beam light right through a house. I'm going to tell you right now.

Plus, it's so much further away from that date. Yeah. You know, like, there's skepticism that the moon landing was faked so the United States got there before Russia? They're going to do the same thing with this mirror thing.

They're going to, like, fake the whole mirror thing so that they can beat Russia to it. Oh. Well, Russia already did it. - Well, but only to the power of the moon.

- Ours is gonna be brighter. - Yeah, we're gonna have a big-- - It's gonna be the brightest. - It's gonna be the biggest, the biggest, the brightest. - The brightest mirror.

- We're gonna have a magnifying glass like no other. It's gonna be up there, it's gonna be amazing. - Killing ants. - Yeah, it's gonna be, yeah, exactly.

- We're gonna kill ants everywhere. - No, we're just, we're gonna start popping people. - Yep. - You know what I mean?

- Yeah, it's much bigger than the ants now. - It's like a death ray. - It's a boom. - Exactly.

- What happened to him? He just exploded. He disintegrated right there, look. We got the new light out there, we're lighting the people up, when they're looking, they walk outside and poof, they just pop away.

Did he do anything? No, but he was thinking about it. No, he was our test subject, we wanted to throw that out, so we could see his name from space. Mohammed something.

Mohammed something. Right, it was something Mohammed. Oh my god, wild stuff. That's not me, that's a direct quote from our president.

That is a direct quote. That is a direct quote from our president. It was hilarious. S.

government is working on a 20%, like a fiend, you want to go through the straight, you want to be safe, I have a question, how did you know to read it with that accent, how do you know that's what that person sounds like, did it have like an opening, like, in parentheses, talk this way? No, it was just the hey yo. You just got going with it. It was beautiful.

It was very nice. Like I just saw the hey yo. And I was like, oh, I know what's going on here. Hey yo, we gots.

And then I saw the we gots. I'm like, okay. Like the way you heard it in your head is awesome the way you said it. Correct.

That's correct. It's beautiful. That's correct. Okay.

There's more here, but that's where we're going to end it for today. com. I'm going to have to go somewhere else. I love that he shits on everything I do.

Wait a minute, I'm confused. So you're not going to be on YouTube TV anymore? No, we are, but what we're doing is we're going to build our own community on a site that no one can take down. Oh, that's genius.

Makes sense, right? 100%. Right. But how?

And it's removed from anything actually selling tobacco. It's just merch. Right, yeah, so it's legit. It's completely clean.

Sure, yeah, you can do that. But don't you have more touches with YouTube? Like, don't they have, like, ways of dispersing information? Like, how do you capitalize on what it is that they do with your own thing?

What do you mean capitalize? So, like, there's exposure with YouTube, right? Sure. Like, if things go through people's feeds based off of what they're watching at the current, right?

That's correct. But if there is only the people that are watching your podcast on your platform, And if you're on your platform, how do you capture new- It's not going away on YouTube. Oh, okay. It's going to still be on all platforms.

Got it, okay. But the problem is, like, the social media has proven at this point that if they say, "Hey, you know what, we're going to do this," and either they're not going after you, the net's big enough where you get taken down and you got to go fight for it. Yeah. And they're like, "Oh, well, you know," and no, it's not like anybody's going to get in touch with you.

So, I figured we'd get ahead of that and start building a platform of our own community. Right. So, like, eventually people in other industries, let's say, like, firearms, because that's another thing that was sort of, like, frowned upon. They could approach you and be like, "Hey, I've got this show.

" Right? Just, like, everything that's not allowed. You won't see the show on CHPod. You'll just go there to make comments on the show you just watched on YouTube.

Correct. Correct. Okay. It's not an actual video platform.

You know what kind of data storage I need for that? It'd be huge. I just want a community. Sorry to disappoint you.

No, I am a little disappointed. I think we should look into the potential for figuring out how much data storage is. Alright, I'll get right on that on top of the other seven things that I'm doing as far as site development. Make it eight.

We're good with eight. Well, I mean, if you get to the point where we're covering the Patreon on CHPod, you'll have to have a video storage I will, but it still won't be as big as... No, because there'll only be one show. Yeah, and they erase, I'll have it automatically erase after every five.

Oh, that'd be nice. Yeah, wouldn't that be good? Make your life easier? Yeah.

See, life is about fixing these gaps. That's what I like to do. He's a gap fixer. Gap fixer.

Yeah. Gap fixer. We'll call him GF. There you go.

Gap fixer. GFU. GFU. So everybody going forward, please refer to him as GFU.

Okay. All right, well, let's triple G and BDP. We need to just cover all the letters. We need more people.

All right, well, let's get on with the show. I'm with the news. On August 2nd, 2027, almost a year from now, the world will witness what's going to be called the Great North African Eclipse. It's only in Africa?

No, that's where it's starting. Ah, okay. The longest total solar eclipse visible from land during the 21st century. At the point of maximum totality, the moon will completely cover the sun for an incredible 6 minutes and 23 seconds.

Yeah, you know, I feel like I'm lied to about these things because every year or every other year there is some sort of a solar or lunar thing, and they tell you this happens like once in a thousand years, then why is it happening like every year or every other year? This is normally the eclipse is only like three minutes. Oh, this one is twice as long, twice as long, twice as long, that's nearly twice as long as many total eclipses giving viewers an extended opportunity to experience daytime into turning into night to see one of the nature's most spectacular sights, the sun's outer atmosphere known as the solar corona glowing around the darkened moon. We should come out with a cigar by then called...

It's just a ploy to get us all to stare at the sun so we're a little bit more blind and we have to buy some glasses. No, you gotta wear the special glasses. I still have a pair from the last one. That's what I mean, like it happens all the time.

But this is twice as long. Oh, okay. You know what's funny? We're 20 minutes into this episode.

Yeah? And I have watched Greg shrink about half of the screen. He is. Oh, you're right.

He's sliding. He's sliding. Oh, I figured out why. Why?

Why? Oh no, this chair is no good. It's no good? Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Chair's broken? No, there's like a divot right here that, yeah, like I'm in it right now. Oh. I'm out of it.

Like when you first sit down, you're not in it and you just slowly get into it. That chair is either end or middle over here. It switches back and forth. Would you like me to put it way over there where nobody sits and rotate that back through?

Somebody with an extremely large ass has molded this chair. JW. this chair is broken that's the price not me it's not me it's a chair i can feel it yeah oh now he feels it feel it in your ass yeah oh my asshole the path of totality will stretch across spain morocco algeria tunisia libya egypt saudi arabia and yemen maybe this is when we get rid of these people that's no place i want to go to go watch an eclipse oh your wife will make you go no no No, we're not going to Yemen. You'll be going to Tunisia.

No. One of the premier viewing locations is expected to be Luxor, Egypt. Get your passport ready, Greg. I don't want to go there, either.

Where weather conditions and the eclipse path combine to create an exceptional viewing opportunity, astronomers and eclipse chasers - there's actually eclipse chasers - from around the globe are already planning trips years in advance because events like this don't come around often. Of course, Greg says it happens every- Are you about done eating over there? Almost. All right.

In fact, another total solar eclipse with this much totality over land isn't expected until... Okay, Greg, so there will be another one. Like, 28 fucking lives from now, right? In 2114.

Right, yeah. So, you got to see this one. You have to see this one. Stare at the sun now, because you're never going to get an opportunity like this to stare at the sun, even though I distinctly remember it happening all the time.

Well, eclipses, but this is exceptionally long. It's so silly. It's double. So silly.

Six minutes. I don't understand why I'm so angry about this. I don't know either. I think you need to go to Africa, take a look at the sun, and take a small bite from your meal so that your wife can finish the rest of it.

Why is it always about that? Because it's hilarious. That's why I'm about to eat. He's like, why is that always?

Why is that always a thing? Look, it's funny because now he's doing the Phil thing of like, I'm not going to engage with you. Right. That's not true.

I asked, why is this always a thing? I'm not talking. This is so silly. I'm not talking.

I'm not talking. I'm not talking. I love my wife. I love my wife.

She can eat anything she wants. She can have my whole meal. She can have my whole meal. And you're going to Egypt.

You know, she's booking the... As soon as she hears the show, she's looking online for the cheap flights. Yeah. Ooh, ooh.

I wonder if we can bring Shredder. Oh. I don't think you can travel with that animal. It's a service tortoise.

It's a service turtle. A service turtle. This is my emotional support turn. Yeah, I can make you a document, it's not a problem.

You can make documents, it's true. When we had Ruckus, he used to travel all the time. I even had a doctor sign his. Nice, a legit doctor.

A veterinarian. I like that that's not even the dog's name, but you just adopted it, because I always call him Ruckus. Well, we don't remember the dog's name, we always call the dog Ruckus. Yeah, I mean, it was Rowdy, but you guys don't remember that.

No. If I say Ruckus, you know what I'm talking about. I was gonna guess Riley. Ooh, that's a good name for a dog, though.

Yeah, Riley. All right, so Greg's packing for Egypt. No. He's bringing extra food, he's only going to eat half of what he has.

No. But by then, he might be falling into this next story. Oh, okay. A shocking murder case that has drawn national attention is revealing even more disturbing details.

Authorities say David Vandermeer, a former pastor, has now been arrested and charged with murdering his wife, Bernadette Vandermeer, David and Bernadette. Do you know them? No. Bernadette!

I just, those two names, they really go together well. David and Bernadette? Yeah. Well, apparently not for Bernadette, he killed her.

Well, they went well together about 20 years ago, and then David said he... So, she's been gone for 20 years? He allegedly had had enough. Yeah, so he thought he got away with it.

Well, yeah, after 20 years. Yeah, 20 years. Investigators allege that what was once believed to be a tragic fall from a cliff in Angels Landing in Utah's Zion, The final landing in Utah's Zion National Park was in fact an intentional act. This nincompoop said something.

That's the only way. Somebody slipped up somewhere. That's the only way. He said something to somebody.

Now new information has emerged that is raising even more questions. According to a reporting from People Magazine, a close friend of Bernadette says she was stunned when she attended the memorial service and saw the woman David was allegedly having an affair with sitting right next to him during the service. That doesn't mean he offed his wife though. He was upset.

He needed comforting. Yeah. The friend described the moment as deeply unsettling, saying it seemed incredibly inappropriate given the circumstances surrounding Bernadette's death. Are you just finding things that all make noise that he's going to do over there today?

You're not talking much, but you sure are getting on the mic a lot. Am I bothering you? Yes, you are. Good.

Here, let me bring it closer. So wait a minute. So the friend found the fact that the girlfriend was at the funeral extremely inappropriate, But not the fact that he had a girlfriend. That's not extremely inappropriate either, right?

Well, I mean... I guess... Perfectly acceptable. I mean, I guess he could have had one if you didn't bring her.

Then nobody would know. I think he's over there just playing with himself. He's not even paying attention to what you're saying. No.

At the time, however, there were no criminal charges and the case remained unsolved for years. Investigators have since reopened the case and after a linked investigation, prosecutors now believe they have enough evidence to charge Vandermeer with murder. As any criminal case, those allegations must still be proven in court, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty. Why not just divorce her?

Maybe he didn't want to give her a half. He didn't want to give him no money. He's a pastor. " He generates money.

You get more money. Well, yeah. Well, maybe in the eyes of the church, divorce is frowned upon, but you can't do that. So murder, then?

Oh, maybe he's Catholic. Yeah. No, he can't. Do you view murder as a lesser sin than...

Than infidelity? I don't know, I don't... Listen, all I know is that guy died so we could do these things, right? That's true, if you don't sin a little, Jesus died for nothing.

The other thing that doesn't make sense to me... You gotta sin a little bit to be sorry for it, you know? Hey, I messed that up, right? Right.

The other thing that doesn't make sense to me is when they always say, you know, they call him the only son of God, and then they say that we're all God's children. I'm like, which one is it? You should raise your hand. Oh, we got kicked out of CCD.

I have a question. Too many questions. I got kicked out of it. Yeah, but you're very in now with Father Bob, or whatever his name is.

Father Tom? No. Father something. It's a short name.

Father David, who killed his wife. I don't think he's a preacher. They're not allowed to have wives in Catholicism. Yeah, in his church.

There's no wives. There's no wives. But the pastor was. Yeah, they don't say what the evidence was.

He was a Christian. I'll tell you what the evidence was. " Right, he opened his mouth. Yeah, or his girlfriend, his long-time girlfriend allegedly came in, and the sandwich wasn't right, and he said, "You know what I did on the last one?

" You know? " There was another story about a pastor who was going to Mexico and using church funds to pay for hookers. All right. See, that one wasn't as fensive as the man killing it.

Well, you don't know what he was doing with the hookers. Maybe he's trying to save them. Maybe he's buying them time. According to what I read, they knew what he was doing with the hookers.

Helping those in need. It wasn't praying. Scarlet needed. Yeah, maybe he was getting the sin out of him.

Maybe he had some sin built up and he had to have it removed. He had to release the sin. We've all been saved for that, Michael, as you said. He doesn't need sin now.

Release the sin. I got to get the sin out. You know what I mean? The devil is inside me?

The Devil is Inside Me. That's Phil's new movie. Release the Devil Inside Me. Release the Devil Inside Me.

For Halloween. Just in time for Halloween. Spraying sin. Exactly.

It's very sad. Very, very, very sad. Alright, you really can't make this stuff up. A 67-year-old man is facing battery charges after what may be one of the most bizarre Waffle House incidents you've ever heard.

No way. Well, first of all, there is nothing bizarre that happens in a Waffle House. That's just standard Waffle House. You just wait and see.

OK. According to police, it all started with an argument over a booth, which they all tend to, inside the restaurant. Instead of cooling off and heading home, the man reportedly walked out to his truck, opened the back, grabbed a frozen squirrel, and then came back inside. Amazing.

This guy's just got a frozen squirrel. I thought you were going to say gun. Police say he then used the frozen squirrel to hit the other customer. I love it.

He chucked it at him. I love it. Now, if you think that's where the story ends, you'd be wrong. Oh, good.

" The squirrel finished him, I have no problems? It finished it. Meaning I'm over it, I'm done. I'm over it now.

I whacked him with the squirrel. It's okay, don't worry about it, I'm gonna go home. Naturally, officers decided to take a look inside the truck, that's when they reportedly found a box full of frozen squirrels in the back, in case he has, you know, another altercation somewhere else in the evening. Oh, God.

Apparently, this wasn't the only squirrel he had on hand. According to investigators, he had backups. Maybe in case he missed? So, wait a minute, do we know how many squirrels?

They don't give a total. This is pertinent. If you have a box of squirrels, like there could be... And they're frozen, it's not like they were in a cooler.

It should be two squirrels in the box, a little bit more acceptable, but you could also probably fit 20, maybe 30 squirrels in a box about this size. Yeah. So why were there frozen squirrels in the man's truck? Why more than one?

And at what point in life do you decide that a reasonable thing to keep in your emergency kit is a frozen squirrel? None of those answers to that question? No, these are questions that the writer of the story has presented. Yeah, no, I have questions.

This must be one of the most uniquely Florida police reports ever written. You know, I don't, you want to know what kind of caught me about this whole story? That it was frozen? No.

Why did the cops check the trunk? Why did they check the trunk? Yeah. Well, they were arresting him for battery, and I don't know if it's a standard procedure that you then search the vehicle of the man you're arresting?

I don't think they're allowed to. He had to give them permission. Uh, no. He did not.

Because there was, uh... Assault? - Yeah, because there was a crime committed. - So at that point, you can just check whatever you want?

- Yeah. - Is that how that works? - Yeah. - T-Money chime in on this for me.

- Yeah, I'm pretty confident. Pretty confident. - I don't know. My glove compartment's locked, so is the trunk in the back.

You know what I'm saying? - Yeah. - I know my rights, so you're gonna need a warrant for that. - Right, but at that point, there's no crime.

But the moment that there is a crime, things change. - Yeah, the botch was behind the front seat of the truck. - Things definitely changed. - Not locked into something.

- Yeah, it's like, so first of all, hang on a second. Mike, Guy hits another guy with frozen squirrel that he has in vehicle, what's to say that after we arrest Guy, there's not frozen children in the trunk? I mean, you gotta look. Yeah, but I'm just saying, do you have the right to?

I think that you do. You have the probable cause at that point. Yeah, the probable cause is the crime, absolutely, 100%. Probable cause works for a pullover, it doesn't mean that you get to search a vehicle.

If there's probable cause, you can search the vehicle. But do they just leave it there then? Here's the probable cause. Man with many frozen squirrels commits assault, probable cause.

Or pop in the trunk? Yeah. I think so. I'm checking for a body back there.

Or maybe somebody who's alive. You don't know. I think that if he had a head in there, that would have been a way better thing to throw at the Waffle House guy. The human head.

Frozen or thawed out? Frozen, be reasonable. Be reasonable. Come on, that makes no sense.

They're gonna smell. It's gotta be frozen. Where is he getting all these squirrels? Also, what was he using to keep them frozen?

Right, it's the same. Cooler. I mean, look, if you've got a box of frozen squirrels in the back of your car in Florida, you've got like an hour, and those things are thawed out, they're done. They're not frozen anymore.

Hmm. So he just froze those squirrels. Yeah, they were freshly frozen. Freshly frozen.

Flash frozen. Mm-hmm. Well, he's now been charged with battery, and somewhere in the evidence locker, there's almost certainly a frozen squirrel tagged in evidence. They probably have to keep it in a freezer.

Yeah, I imagine there's a cold room in an evidence locker for other things that need to be cold. Yeah. Well, I I went to Waffle House to get me some waffles, and this guy took my boof, so I went in, I drew my squirrel at him. You know, that accent makes me question, what city and what county does it say?

I don't know. How are you? Osceola. Osceola.

Lake, it was Lake County. Lake something. Lake County something, maybe. I mean, the guy had friggin' squirrels in his trunk.

What do you think it was? It's not Broward. Could be Polk. Think it was City of Orlando?

It's not Broward. No, no. Yeah, think about where they put Waffle Houses. Right.

No. Yeah, the guy looked at his banjo and said, "I'm not gonna throw that," and then grabbed the squirrels. I need that for later. Yeah.

I ain't gonna do that. I'm sure I got squirrels in there somewhere. I ain't gonna do that. By the way, I know this is gonna air tomorrow, but today, which means yesterday, is Ben Wilhelmi's birthday, so I always wanted to give him a shout out.

Oh, nice of you, yeah. Yeah, happy birthday, Ben. I won't get everybody, but if I see it, I'm gonna talk about it real quick, and he's a good one, he's a real one, so. All right, moving on from squirrels.

All right, now we're into, oh, you have a video from yesterday. I do. If you'd like to show your video. Well, now I don't know if I want to show it.

It's entirely up to you. Because he asked? I mean... I don't know, I'm just feeling different.

You told me yesterday to ask today. I was choosing violence yesterday, and now I'm chill, it was leg day. All right, well, we'll just move on then. No, no, now I'm intrigued.

He didn't show you until you after the show. I want to see his angry video. Don't make me get my frozen squirrel out of the car. It's not an angry video, but I'm going to text it to my guys right here.

You don't want condom. We're going to piss some people off, guys. Oh, we are. Yeah.

Oh, that's good. We like when that happens. Nice. Here you go.

There are fines. And then there are... Fines. Good night, buenos noches.

Oh, and it's just beginning. 2015 Subculture Studio never released. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Isn't this exciting? I don't... Okay. Here, I'll play this out for you.

How many do you want to get? Oh, we can't get those. That's what's going to make people angry. That's correct.

So, who's getting them? Him. Oh, you can only get them at his place. Well, he's pivoting to retail.

Yeah, he said he'd open a retail place. He said he never would. Okay. He said he never would.

Now we have the data. We have all the data. Wait, he said he would never go to retail? Yeah.

I thought he opened his place in South Florida and it was a retail place. It is. It is. But now he's releasing exclusive things that no one else can get.

Gotcha. Built on the backs of all these other retailers that refuse to say anything about this guy. And check him right and now he's gonna take all your money congratulations guys success wishing you all the best you know I don't it's it's about it boggles the mind to me yeah I mean like so like we've discussed this years and years ago when that whole thing started where they were like yeah so you know give us the customers email right that we're gonna have this thing that we're gonna do online it's gonna be good for you and And my brother and I were like, we're not. That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard in my life.

We're not doing that. Yeah, we did the first one and then we're like, oh no. Yeah, we're not doing that. There's any more.

Oh yeah, you're not getting, no, that's not, that's no. And now? And now. All of those people got emails and they can only buy this cigar from him.

And now his throne of money will be bestowed upon all of us. And hey, you know what, man, I guess kudos to you, buddy. Like I just don't understand how people are not upset, you know, they're like, is it because they got so duped that they don't want to admit it? What is he, you know, I don't know.

Yeah. It's probably, it was his long-term thing all along. There's long-term thing all along, long-term plan. Deep thoughts from Mike Palmer.

I mean, there's probably other things that he's been sitting on or stuff in the warehouse that, um, he just pulled the lost and found bro. Right. I found this in the warehouse in my own warehouse yeah i found this in my own warehouse where i wasn't saving it is this crazy for some later uh thing i was gonna do wild wild i can't believe i found it right here right now right next to these other ones look at these look check at these oh where are these these do look right next to the chiclets it's amazing here's a rare undercrum that i made years ago too look at this i went to go have a sandwich and i found these perfectly packaged cigars they're very rare it was incredible only you can only get them from me you can only get them from me Amazing. Humidity controlled for the last 18 years.

Perfectly regulated. Huh. Hmm. How weird.

So odd. I don't know how they showed up in my new shop. It's so crazy. It's so crazy.

Look, this makes him uncomfortable. I like that. Well, I mean, like, you know, you made the statement, you know, kudos to him. Yeah.

Good move. Smart, right? Maybe that's why people don't have a position where they're really genuinely upset about it because you look at it and you're like, all right, good gag. If you believe, listen, look, this is usually Patreon content, just for the record, but if you believed that he wasn't going to do it, and then it happened, and then it happened, you're not, it's just like the people who back a particular party, and they see that something is wrong with that party, they do something wrong, and they don't want to admit it, they double down, they're like, well, it's fine, because this is why, you know what I mean?

It's the same aspect. When you get duped, you don't want to admit that you got duped and just move on from it? Man, yeah, he got me, right? I think that that's more what it is.

Maybe. Yeah, yeah. Maybe. Yeah, everybody's, oh, I'm so happy for him.

He's doing such a good thing. It's gonna be great for everybody. Yeah. It's gonna be great for him.

Yeah. Good job, buddy. Attaboy. Okay.

Now we're not gonna get our picture taken if we go down there. Yeah. No, yeah. He's not down there.

With the apron on. No. Buenas noches. With the meat cleaver nature.

It's like an apron that he wears. Alright, Cigar News. Artesino Del Tobacco is proud to announce that the Viva La Vida Connecticut Churchill began shipping on July 2nd to all retailers who placed pre-orders during the 2026 PCA trade show. Following the success of the Viva La Vida Connecticut line, Artesino Del Taco is expanding with the collection with a new 7x54 Churchill.

Good size. These are the Pupo people, right? These are the Pupos. The Pupos, yes.

I like the Pupos. The addition of the size is especially meaningful as it was developed in direct response to recommendations from the company's valued retail partners and consumers. Did you call them and tell them to make a Churchill? No.

Michael, did you call and ask them to make a Churchill? I did. It went right to voicemail. Oh.

I said Corona. Oh. Yeah. Well, now I got the message.

Yeah. Our clients have always played an important role in helping shape our brand. Helping shape our brand says: Bill Faki, Gus Faki, and Ivan of Artesino Del Tabaco, Del Taco Tobacco. So many Faki's.

Del Tabaco, not taco, there's no tacos. You had two Faki Faki's. It's like the Vietnam prostitute you want, Faki Faki. That was their name, F-U-K-I-H.

Faki. Faki. We're gonna need armed security in the next PCA. They have eight arms because they're the El Pumbo guys.

We can't wait for everyone to experience this new Churchill. It took a little longer to bring it to market. Well, because it's longer. Yeah, it took the extra inch.

It took a little more time. We wanted to give the tobacco all the time it needed to develop the flavor profile we envisioned. How do you see a flavor profile? I mean, I understand I have not gone to tobacco school yet, but I'm going to get there.

Skip, I am seeing this tasting this way. Well, normally, here's what normally happens. What happens is as you smoke a cigar progressively, I'm going to tell you, it starts off with these kind of sharper notes. These kind of sharper notes.

Yeah. And then like through time, a lot of those notes were kind of dumbed down. However, that's probably not what happened here. AJ probably just never got around to it.

And then eventually he released the cigars. That makes really more sense. Yeah. He's like, okay, now they're ready.

You know, like that's probably the legit thing that happened on that one. So I would, I'm just guessing. Oh, look at this. It was crafted at AJ Fernandez cigars.

Who knew? Hmm. Didn't see that one coming. It features the same blend found throughout the Viva La Vida line.

It's made with premium tobacco, filler tobaccos wrapped in an age Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper. There you go. There you go. All right.

So much smoke and mirrors, guys. Enjoy it. Enjoy it. Don't ruin the magic for these people, Michael.

Yeah. Well, you know, it's, ah, whatever, guys. You know, it took forever for it to get to the flavor we were envisioning. We wanted it to age to perfection.

And AJ just called and said they were ready. By the way, uh, Pete, uh, Pete Johnson from Tatua, he reached out to me, And he was kind of breaking down more about the FDA and why the lawsuit is going the way that it is, it's because the user directly did wind up paying, even though the bill came through the importer. Say that again, the user did directly pay, even though... I'll show you the message, because I don't want to screw it up.

I'd be intrigued to see what he had to say. I also like the fact that my brother says, "Pete Johnson of Tatuaje," just informing me who he's talking about. about it. Well, I had to tell you.

Because I don't know that name at all. You think Pete Johnson's the guy that washes your car. Yeah. His name's Greg.

Well, actually. Well, that's easy for you. Yeah. To be fair, there are a lot of people that watch and listen to our show and they don't know if I said Pete Johnson.

I felt like it was for me. So now I feel better. Well, it was. The other people are just the benefit of your ignorance.

Yeah. It worked out well for them. Right. Good.

Glad I was able to help. All right. United's Independence Line gets two new Vatolas. The Little Firecracker got bigger.

The Little Firecracker got bigger. It's that cigar. Yeah. But now there's two more signs.

Now it's dynamite. However, Viaje possesses dynamite rights, so we cannot call it dynamite. We must call it Bigger Firecracker. Bigger Firecracker.

Well, actually, there's no fuse on the bigger ones. Oh. Sorry, sorry. A new limited edition cigar for its long-running Firecracker series of cigars.

It turns out that was only part of the plan. Next month, United Cigars will release the blend in two traditional Vitolas, without the Firecracker Signature Fuse, and as a regular production line, oh, no longer limited, it's unlimited, the Independence line will be offered in a Robusto, a 4x7, 8x50, and a Toro, 7 and 8x50 prices, gentlemen, uh, it's David G, my guy, he's, um, limit, it's not limited, not limited, regular production, I'm gonna say like $14. 50. Hmm.

Toro, $7 and an 8th? 50? Uh, $5 and $7 and an 8th by $50, yes. That's gonna be a pretty good size.

Yeah. That's gonna be pretty good. Yeah. Yeah.

$16. You always say $16. I did. Yeah.

50. Wow. That's impressive. Very affordable cigars.

Yeah. And it still comes in the metal box. Nice. Yeah.

I like the metal box. Uh, yeah. Okay. Turn it over into an ashtray.

Yeah, I was about to say. Yeah, I like that. That's a good concept. Yeah, it's very cool.

Yeah, I think this is gonna be a good size for that. You know what I mean? Because, I mean, that's a great price, too. Yeah, that's a good price.

Yeah. $11? Yeah. This is very good.

We should do those on next week's Patreon. The Firecracker one if we have some left. Okay. The line is made at the Arnold André Dominican factory.

Anybody ever heard of that one? Mm-mm. Greg doesn't even know anybody in the industry. Well, I was asking you.

No. Oh. Each cigar will be offered in a metal tin of 12 cigars. But to be fair, I don't know a ton about Dominican.

Yeah, we're not big in Dominican stuff. Yeah. Why mess with success, said Oliver, our friend Oliver, Director of Operations for United Cigars at a press release. The independent...

What? I'm still waiting on my blacks, by the way. I was about to ask you about that. Yeah, the order was placed.

Yeah, I got no problem. He probably looked at that text and just threw his phone right out the window. Like, I just wanted to try them. Like, I don't know.

He's taking orders like Pete Hernandez. Yeah, he's doing the Pete Hernandez style. Hey man, yeah, yeah. Like, look, I know, whatever.

I'm not a big retailer or whatever, but, you know, maybe I really want to try at least a cigar. I'm kind of enticed. He's like, sure, no problem, whatever. No problem, I'll take care of you.

Hey, you're going to see a message about these. I'll write that down, three boxes for Cigar Hustler, and just throw that out the window. Yeah, I'm going to write this down, and that's not happening. And change my cell phone number.

Yeah. And blocked the collar. Blocked. Alright, now it's time for the industry's favorite game.

You gotta stay with enthusiasm. Everybody get ready. Ready? Ready?

What's the score? Players, your clues from a half-wheel cigar review and try to predict the score before it's revealed. And sometimes cigar press. As more details are shared, the challenge gets easier, or does it?

Wait, did you guys interject? Are we now also doing cigar press? Yes, we did yesterday. We started doing them yesterday.

them yesterday oh how fun that's great yeah they gave us the 91 sumacho they get oh oh that's why i see that's right i like that well they don't do it they don't do as many reviews as half will does but we can rotate one in every once in a while yeah we're gonna slide them in right because fred roue is a nice person he is a nice person he's also very witty and if fred you're watching this if you could put who does the reviews that would be a big help thing yeah if you can add that to the reviews add that to the review who did it we will fix your gaps fred did not review our cigarettes. Thor did. Thor did. Oh, I like him too.

Thor is very sweet. I told Fred that we like him better now. We like him. Better than Fred.

Yes, Thor is better than Fred. Fred is still very witty, as I said. Fred is witty. I enjoy conversing with him.

But he said he gave us an 80. So, you know. Oh, that's right. Yes, he did.

Yeah, he gave us an 80 on the Sumatra. He did say that. Did he? Yeah, but it was in jest.

Yeah, yeah. I have it in writing. Yeah, well, it's in writing because it came in text. Oh.

The closest guess to the actual score wins the round. Can you read between the lines and predict Let's make the score. Let's play, what's the score? Let's play, what's the score?

Today's Cigars from 2013, Greg. 2013? Brooks Whittington. Brooks.

Brooks. The Drew Estate Nicaragua release, previously reviewed, Liga Privada, Unico Series, UF13 Dark. It's the pre-release. 90.

Does he say at some point, like, I love Jonathan Drew and the fact that he's protecting retailers and looking out for them? I'm gonna give him a 99. It's at the end. Oh, it is?

Okay. Wow. Wow. Wow.

Um, 91. The Cigar Reviewed is the Liga Privada Unico Series UF13 Dark. It is from Nicaragua, factory La Gran Fabrica Drew Estate, where Jonathan keeps all his hidden cigars. 5x52, they smoked 11 of these for the reveal.

Did they really? Yes, that's why I sort of pulled this, I thought it was quite strange. That's not right. It says 11.

That's a typo, somebody pushed one twice. It says 11, they smoked 11, we're going with 11, that's what the game says. It's the pre-release, they only had one. It's 11.

There's no way. I'm going to send that to Charlie and say, just so you know, this is how many I want to see you review of any of our cigars. I need 11 minimum. Minimum of 11.

Minimum of 11. 11 total. 11. I like went back and go, were there like a series of cigars or something?

He's going to be like, stop looking at our 2013 cigars. It's not 90, I'm sticking with 90. 87. Clue number one.

The cigar delivered an exceptionally rich and complex profile, layering espresso. Espresso, Dark Chocolate, Cocoa, Oak, Leather, Earth, Nuts, Pepper, with evolving sweetness that kept the experience engaging from start to finish. Were there so many descriptors because of the fact that they tried 11 cigars? With each one he added another word to describe the flavor of the cigar.

After smoking 11 of these, I've come to the conclusion that I could taste wood, pepper, cocoa, chai town, I don't know, whatever. I found. I take Chicago here. This is wild.

Green tea. Hints of frozen squirrel. Yes. Frozen squirrel.

Frozen squirrel. Sticking with 90. One head of a child. 88.

Clue number two. Construction was outstanding. Outstanding announced. Couturing a flawless burn, effortless draw, and enormous, dense smoke production that remains consistent throughout the entire hour and a half smoking experience.

Does that mean he was smoked for 14 hours? Hold the phone. Hold the phone. I've seen this a couple of times.

Okay. That cigar took them an hour and a half. It's a Toro. It's a Toro.

Yeah. It just seems like a long. They're smoking it slow because it's got all the flavor notes. Long, long.

Yeah. You gotta, like, you know. You know what I mean? You know how, like, chain cigarette smokers will, like, be down to the last, and then they'll take another one, They'll use the other one to light it.

I like to think they did that with the whole 11 cigars. Well, they had to, one after the other. 11. Just one, just keep it going.

You know, we have an 11 of these, Brooks. 91. 91. He eked up to a 91.

I'm going to ek up to an 88. Third clue. The blend was unforgiving if smoked too quickly, becoming noticeably harsh when overpuffed. That's the third clue?

Yes. Requiring a slow and deliberate pace to enjoy its full potential. Hmm. We have final thought left.

Wow. 90. 88. Alright, final thought.

When I first smoked this blend, I knew it was something special and begged anyone who would listen to make it more available. In my opinion, this is the quintessential Liga Privada blend. Strong yet complex profile, excellent construction, full of flavor, and a perfect cigar to age. Fresh out of the gate, it is not the most balanced of profiles, but the, there's a website mentioned here, I can't say, pre-release, prove how that can change over time.

To me, the UF-13 Dark is a better blend than anything else that Drew Estate has released so far. It's the greatest. Better than the UF-4, better than the #9, and the T-52, better than the Feral Flying Pig, better than the Velvet Rat, and yes, even better than the Dirty Rat. Criret.

Wow. I wonder if it's better than the cigar that Jonathan just found hidden in the back of the little worm. No, it's not better. It's not better than that one?

Possibility. We don't know. He needs 11 of them to find out. 2015.

2015. 2015. 2015. Oh, so two years after they made this?

After 11 years of hiding. I found. You found it. It was lost, now it's found.

Sorry. Oh, it's not. - Not lost and found. - Not lost and found.

- Triple G? - This is the last time you get the vote. This is the last score. - Is that how the rules work?

- Yes. - Yes, this is the end of the game. - 91. - I'm gonna win here, I'm gonna nail it, and I'm gonna say 92.
