Cigar Hustlers Podcast 249 Football Factory

Episode Summary
Episode 249 of the Cigar Hustlers Podcast opens with the Patreon smoke — a very hard-to-find Room 101 12th Anniversary in a Perfecto vitola — before the hosts swap weekend stories about Chet Atwill's "Camp Fear" haunted attraction at a you-pick farm outside Orlando, where Phil worked as a scare actor and Michael walked through as a guest. There's also flag football talk (Justice went one-for-one at QB before jamming a finger), a fall festival, a dehumidifier install at the shop, and a surprise call-in from Brittany.
The industry news block (the Cigar Hustler Podcast Report) covers the ongoing Luciano Cigars saga, in which the company issued yet another clarification asserting that it — not Pichardo — owns the factory now known as Luciano Cigars Factory (formerly Tabacalera Pichardo / Tabacalera D'Tue), that blender Luciano Morales blended everything made there "with no exception," including product for Crowned Heads, and that an exclusive press conference is coming. The hosts riff endlessly on the charcuterie, wine and stray dog from the earlier press event. They also break down Tatuaje's Drac Redux shipping from My Father's Cigars: a 6 3/4 x 52 belicoso with an Ecuadorian Habano maduro wrapper over Nicaraguan binder and filler, a slightly tweaked internal blend, covered foot, embossed and repositioned bands, a red box instead of black, $13 per cigar and 4,000 boxes of 13 — 20% fewer than the Frank Redux.
Mid-show, the hosts follow through on a running gag and get Justin Andrews of STG/Diesel on the phone after threatening to publish his number. Justin plugs the newest Sunday Gravy release, the Porcellino (a 6x52 toro made with AJ Fernandez, full-bodied and still a $5 cigar — likely the last one at that price), jokes about the infamous plastic half-pot giveaway, teases a future backyard barbecue/grill promo, and talks about working with Matt Booth and the TAA-only Atonement.
The news wraps with Davidoff of Geneva USA trimming 62 SKUs — more than half of them Camacho, including American Barrel-Aged, Criollo, Nicaraguan Barrel-Aged and the BXP blends — alongside an average 7.32% price increase (Winston Churchill The Late Hour up 20.19%, Royal Release up $10 a stick). Also covered: Caldwell and La Barba discontinuing six lines after the Tabacalera William Ventura fire, Freud Cigar Company shipping the $30 Agape from Tabacalera Diaz, and Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust dropping two vitolas from the Umbagog line — which fuels a long, unhinged "Umbago" bit. Listener of the week is Mitch Smith, plus a Powstanie factory segment.

This is how he repays us. We let Phil's face be seen. Yeah. Let me attach to that Rodecaster Pro.
I'm doing it. I'm done. I'm in. Oh, I didn't have to hit the button.
What do we got for the Patreon, Michael? This is your part of the program. We have the Room 101 12th Anniversary. Very rare.
Super rare. Super rare. Super, super rare. K.
Perfecto. No, it's not the Toro. It's a Perfecto. They don't make this size.
This is a limited production run or something. I don't know. I don't even think Half Wheel has had this. I don't even think Charlie Minato has experienced this cigar in the Perfecto format.
Hold on. The landlord has sent me pictures of the garbage cans. Those aren't ours. Can we just take one?
What are we going to do with it? They're big outside garbage cans. Use it outside up top. Oh, is that what he's talking about?
Yeah. That's nasty looking. There's a new one coming over here in the morning. All right, fine.
That's what he means, huh? But those belong to the bikers. They had a party Saturday night. Ah, okay.
We're lucky they got that far. Yeah, that is. We are very fortunate that they threw their stuff away. Right.
Well, I don't have my scale. What is going on with this mic? It's like, boop, doot, doot, doot. Yeah, you know, Ginger sits there.
Drunk motherfuckers, I'll fuck them on my mic. Hey, do me a favor, Phil, can you, my scale's right there. I'll get the scale if he switches to camera three, you can talk about the cigar for a minute, and I'll get the scale. What else am I supposed to say about the cigar?
S. It's room 101, 12th Anniversary Perfecto, 6 by... Movie magic, look at, I think it's 56. It's fluent.
Let me wait before I cut it. Yeah, that'd be good. 2 gram. 2.
2. Yada yadas. So, there's that. Should I call Justin Andrews right now?
Yeah, go ahead. If he doesn't answer, is this where we give another digit? Oh, he texts, he texts. What are you saying?
Oh, he's threatening me. You can't just read it. What's he threatening? Don't you threaten me, I'll fucking do it.
Can't touch our pots and pans. Oh, that just pushes me to do it, Justin. I'm not scared of you. Right, what's he holding back?
What's he holding back? He won't send us our family. You give out my number and you'll have bigger issues than me not answering. Okay.
Challenge accepted. Right. We'll just go with that. Well, I was going to give him the one opportunity and then I'll give him the other opportunity.
I'll call again before the show ends. Oh, okay. And as the show ends, I'll give the number out. Oh, let's see what he says.
Your call. Oh. What did he send? He sent a picture.
What, your pack orders? I don't know. " What other show threatens people? He's got an image of something.
I don't know, it's blurry. It's blurry, it's red, it's green, it's yellow. It looks like he's on meetings. Oh.
We should find out who's in the meeting with him and call him. I bet you they'd answer. Sure they would. That's probably why they fired Jack.
Because he answered the phone during the meetings? Yeah, Jack, we're going to have to fuel the growth of you because you answered the phone. You take the call, you answer the phone when Cigar Husser calls. This is not good here.
Wow. He's cutting a lot away there. Uh, so, uh, what'd you do? Oh yeah, that's right.
This other side's closed. Yeah. Both closed, Michael. What'd you do?
What'd you do? Uh, we, we did basically the same thing, but on different days. We did. Yeah.
That's so fucking funny. I didn't know you were going Saturday. I didn't know I was going Saturday either. Oh, he guilted me.
Phil guilted me. Guilted you. So where did you go, Michael? Uh, Friday night, I went out to no fear ranch for, uh, Chet Atwill's haunt.
No fear. That was opening night. I worked it with him. I was He's one of the scream gatherers or scare actors or whatever.
So our beloved Chet has gone out here and he has put together this haunted house. Haunted walk in the woods. Yeah, like haunted camp thing. You're right, Camp Fear.
And it is linked to some type of... It's a you-pick farm. Yeah, they do like a Halloween-esque month, I guess. Yeah.
They have a band out there. On the weekends. Yeah, they have bands at food trucks. Yeah, Candy Apple.
A face painter, or a tattooist, or something, a freak show. Did you walk the freak show? I did not. Oh, I heard it was really good.
Did you? I didn't either. Did you walk the freak show? Did you do the freak show, Phil?
I did. And how was it? It was great. Can I tell you a little bit about it?
Yeah, yeah, yeah. There was a strong man. Yeah, no, I did see him walking around before him when I was getting ready. Yes.
How strong was the strong man? He lifted a thousand pounds. Oh, just like that. With one hand.
Yep. And then there was a magician, which I thought was the best part of the whole show. How was he a freak though? No, let me tell you what happened.
Okay, wait, is this a, is this a spoiler thing where he's going to ruin it for somebody else? I don't think so. I think this is just a part of the show that everybody's going to figure it out anyways. Yeah.
All right. So, you know, those TikToks where people are throwing up blankets? Oh yeah, yeah. He threw his cape up and it ran.
Ooh, where'd he go? He's gone. He's gone. There was a bearded lady.
It's supposed to be a bearded lady. Was the man eating chicken in there? Yes. Oh, was that a person dressed as a chicken?
It was just a person, yeah. That's funny. How about the lady that lives in the fishbowl? Yeah, so that's like a camera thing.
Oh, oh. You can see it. Optical trick. But it's cool though, yeah.
Right, right, right. Those were the banners on the outside of the tent. Gotcha. Ricky got scared of the mad doctor that was in there.
Oh, okay. You're still talking about the freak show. There was a mad doctor in there, and she started talking about how she lost her spider on the ground, and Ricky almost ran out of the tent. Oh, nice.
Poor Ricky, man. Quite the abuse. He does. So it was good.
I didn't do the freak show. I should have, I guess. Was that included, or was that extra? No, it was like eight bucks.
Oh, but they weren't checking your tickets. I mean, you could have just handed it to me. That wouldn't be the right thing to do. Right, right, right.
You know, I didn't realize it was at all entertaining, I would have. That hearse that was out there, he built. Yes. Yeah.
So, so you were in, so you were in. I was one of the actors. You were a volunteer. Yes.
Yes. Okay. Did you scare anybody? Yeah, a bunch of people.
You did? Yeah. And where were you? I was behind the barrels to start with.
So as you walk down to the toxic beach. " Right. Yeah. And then after everybody would pass, because I had to do that like three times, depending on the size of the group.
Right. So when people would pass, then I would climb down from my perch on the scaffolding and start talking about my pet crocodiles and alligators out in the water and then interact with the alligators and scare the people. Oh, you were the, okay. Oh, so that guy was, he was the same person.
So that's who Chet was when we went. No, no. Well, Chet was the one who pulled the alligator. Pulled the alligator, yeah.
But I would then act like the alligator grabbed me and was taking me about, I would yell, "Get back in the water! " You were standing the man? Yes, with an eye patch. Yeah.
Fantastic. " I really don't want to go. The only thing is the drive, it is a bit far out there. Yeah, the drive is terrible.
It's a quick drive. It's all 429, which, thanks to our governor, is free right now. Yeah, which is lovely. Yeah.
So, Brittany said you should fucking go. Oh, she didn't go? No. Oh, just she didn't have anybody for the kids, and she ain't about that.
Yeah, I knew she didn't like it. She's like, you should fucking go. I'm like, okay, because I should go. Because for one, Phil asked me to go, and it's Chet's thing.
Right. So, and Chet has worked really hard on this. Oh, yeah. So, I should definitely go.
This is a dream come true for him. Yeah. The drive there fucking gave me anxiety. I'm getting old, man.
Yeah. I'm getting fucking old. It is out there. You gotta turn, turn, turn.
The lights. No, no. The one-way fucking lights. I can't, like, bright lights hurt me right now, so I'm fucking.
On the way back, I missed a turn on 429. It ended up on 583 or something, and I'm looking at the map and going, it's going, you turn. I'm like, oh, turn the fuck around. I don't know.
Moron, turn around. And you can't just turn around. You gotta go three miles up, get off. You have to stop off at Hillbilly Bob's, fucking ranch.
Right. Turn around. You gotta take a picture of him fucking his sister in order to get your car back. Take pictures?
Did you give him the pictures? I don't know. Oh. No, yeah.
Other than that, though, but I mean, he loves it. It's something he's always wanted to do. It was fun. Yeah.
It was really fun, and it, you know, he did a good job with it. I don't jump at those things. Right. One of the cool guys.
I am definitely. There was those cool, like, oh, yeah, hmm. I'm definitely one of those cool guys. Yeah, mostly girls scream.
It's important for me to go with other people that jump, though, because if there, if there is no, ah right i like i want that that's my entertainment all right right yeah so ricky definitely filled that entertainment for us yeah that was you know i actually vetted him beforehand i said does this you know so tell me are you just you're interviewing everyone so do you scare easy ricky i need to i need details do you scare easy no who should i walk with is what i'm looking no i don't scare easy and i found myself in the front of the the ride at first right and i'm like i gotta get the fuck I don't get to jump out of the front. Right, because then you don't see anything. Well, I mean, no. Well, the jumping out usually happens to you.
And I'm like, I don't get to see the other people jump. Right. Well, that's what I mean. You miss the show.
Yeah. I don't get to see the entertainment for me. And like, if they're jumping, I'm not seeing them jump behind me and I'm not jumping. Right.
Right. So I'm like, fuck. Even though you walk in a certain place and those speakers kick on with the screaming, that doesn't even make you jump? No, not really.
Because even after I knew it was there, that still almost got me every time. You want to know what made me fucking jump? Was when I saw the lights on with the mosquitoes, the amount of mosquitoes that were flying around the lights, that I'm like, holy shit, that's a lot of mosquitoes. So if you go, make sure you use your bug spray.
I did not get bit one time. Oh yeah, I bug sprayed, oh yeah, so he goes, there's bug spray in that cabin, like, oh, okay. I bug sprayed the shit out of myself. And then people forgot it, they brought them back to my car, I bug sprayed again.
I'm like, you know, fuck it, I'm already out here. When I sat down at home, I was like, "I need to get in the shower. " I mean, holy shit. So, when we're going through this whole thing, there's a spot where it's a two-by-four kind of frame, and then there's like a trash bag, and people rip through it, and like, wow.
Yeah, there's a bunch of different places. So, one of those had this Boy Scout person that was supposed to jump out at you, right? So, like, I'm looking, I'm looking around at image, like, stuff or whatever, and there's, like, three people. So that's, like, the first house, I think, is where the.
. It's actually around the turn. Yeah, like, well, the first house. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
The diner or whatever it is. No, it's past the diner. Oh. It's past the crocodile or alligator thing.
Right. You start kind of walking up that whole path. So, past the arrow target range. Yeah, yeah.
Okay, into the, into the campground. Yeah, yeah. Okay. So, so I'm looking around, like, I like checking out all the shit.
Like, this is cool, you know, oh, look, you know, and then all of a sudden I hear, like, I look down, I see this thump, and there's this fucking scout, and he's on the floor, and I'm like, oh shit, he must have jumped out, lunged out at everybody, and like, he's right around Phil's son and, you know, their little squad or whatever, and Ricky, and I was like, damn, that guy's committed to his fucking, to his craft, bro. I mean, this guy is not fucking around. " So when he jumped out, he fucking tripped. Snagged his foot on the plastic or something.
Nice. And he ate it, and man, that was fucking amazing. Was that not, that was pretty fucking hilarious. Did you see that went down?
No, I saw it, yeah. Yeah. And Chet's daughter was right there, she didn't break character. Yeah, yeah, she never broke character.
You ever said hi to her? Yeah, she was good. She was in it. Yeah.
So yeah, it was very good. I had fun. Good. I also did a little fall festival action with a person I do real estate with, Gretchen.
Oh. Yeah, that was pretty cool. What, like at her house? Yeah, she did like a whole party thing.
Oh. Mm-hmm. Did you go to that by yourself too? No, I read the whole thing.
Was it just a full weekend for you without gallivanting around? No, that was with the whole squad. Oh, oh. The sad part was it's actually close to where the fuck that thing was.
Oh, you had to go back out there again? Yeah, she's out in Claremont or something. Claremont? They do rent that place out when they're not doing Halloween things out there.
Yeah. For weddings and parties and things. That's nice. We'll never drive out there.
I just saw all the bugs in my car today. " Oh. They do something Christmas out there, too. I bet.
Sounds like fun. Let me know how that goes. There's a you-pick thing with blueberries, peaches, strawberries, and something else you can go out there. That's cool.
Whenever that season is. Yeah. I don't know when that season. Be missing that as well.
Oh. Mm-hmm. If Chet does the you pick, I'll go out there, okay? If he's handling, if he's running that, yeah.
Okay, I'll go. They are talking about him doing like a weekend thing once a month where you pay money to go out and camp. You actually really camp in a tent and stuff, and he and some people will scare the shit out of you while you're camping. Oh, that's nice.
I'm gonna tell you right now, that motherfucker works weekends, I'm gonna fucking kill him myself. It's one weekend a month. I'll give him a pass for the whole month of October. But if he works, I'll fucking every weekend, every one weekend a month.
That's it. That's it. I'm going to kill him. You'll be fine, Michael.
No, I won't. It'll hurt my heart. We had football. Yeah, the Buccaneers played Sunday.
I watched part of the game here. We came up here Sunday. Oh, no, I'm not even talking about that. I'm talking about the kids.
Oh, your kids football. Yeah, yeah, yeah. We played the Trader team in our pre-KK squad. Yeah?
Yeah, we got smoked, which sucked. Wifey, wifey. What was that? Oh.
Hello? Hold on. You're on the podcast. Hello?
Hello, Brittany Stepankevich. Welcome to Cigar Hustler Podcast. You were... Oh, hello.
We're recording. What did Michael do wrong? Okay. Nothing.
I... Oh, come on. It's gotta be something. I mean, he was a little bit of a Debbie Downer this morning, but he snapped out of that, I think.
Oh. Snap out of it, Michael, you better know. I feel snapped. Oh.
How, how, how will we, how can we help you, Ms. Brady? Um, I'm just letting you know that, um, I'm here at Teddy Sands and I was gonna ask you to bring me home smoke. No problem.
I'll make sure he gets those right after the show. Is that it? Thank you. Uh, yeah.
And you're gonna take justice? Yes. Okay, but am I missing something here? No, I'm getting back onto the stories that I was saying.
And you're, I don't want you to ruin it. I haven't gotten to that part yet. Oh, Lordy. All right.
Love you. Oh, Lordy. Love you. Goodbye.
Bye. So, Jess has had a game. Yeah, so, well. You have to take him to, oh, he got hurt.
Yeah. So, so we did, so we played the traitors, you know, the guys who defectoed from us today. Oh, I thought that was the name of the team. I was going to ask if they were really traitors.
Yeah, they're traitors, they're traitors. And they ran the same two plays, but the pre-KK team that we have right now, they're just, I mean, when you lose all your players, you gotta start over, it's a whole thing, we're in the process of rebuilding, but our first grade, second grade team is doing great, they played, you know, cause you play, we're all first graders, so you play some second graders, you get your ass handed to you a little bit, right, but, you know, you start holding your own on these first grade teams, like, okay, this is good, this is really good, so we started, Justice threw the ball, He threw the ball a little bit. Actually, he threw it once and it was a catch. I don't think he threw it again after that.
And then he ran on a touchdown. So he was 100%... Yeah, he was one for one. He had a QBR.
Perfect. Yeah. Absolutely insane. And then I told him on Sunday, "Hey, go throw the ball with your brother.
" Sure as shit, he fucking jammed his finger. Aww. That's what we're talking about. Oh, so he got taken to the doctor?
Yeah. Didn't get to pull the bag out? I don't know, man. So it looks kind of purple.
Oh, it's broken. So he might have fractured it. So we'll get it looked at. " Oh, I did.
Oh, okay. " Yep. As long as he says it's okay. Yep.
Damn. Oh, it's too bad. Yep. Wait till he get a camera that'll x-ray.
Then he just, he could do everything. Yeah. So that's where I'm at, buddy. Oh.
Good for you. What are you? What else did you do? Well, Saturday, Adrian had a homecoming dance, so I came up here and installed the dehumidifier, waited for an hour to make sure it was running and see how fast it was sucking in water, and then I went home.
Look at all that water that's sucked out of the air. I mean, it was exhausting for a night. We were there till one-ish, or midnight, and I didn't get home till one. Yeah.
So, and then at the end, you know, I gave him a hug, told him I was very impressed, you did a great job. " No, no. This has been fun, but no. I did it.
I did it. I was here for opening night. I supported you. I jumped from the scaffolding 22 times.
Yeah. No, I'm gonna go home. Yeah, Chad, good help's hard to find. Damn it.
Gonna go home before I hurt myself. I'm an old man. Just sitting there on camera one this whole time? No, no, he just switched.
He's been using camera two the whole time. He didn't even have it in his lap. He was napping. Taking a nap over there.
Napster. We do not have a Florida story this week. It's all hurricanes, so it's all depressing. I've seen people are dying, people are finding dead people, it was just, there was nothing funny.
But we do have some interesting news though. Okay. But we're early. Let's just get rolling, man.
All right, we'll just roll right into it. From the four corners of the world, all the cigar industry news you could possibly need. The Cigar Hustler Podcast Report with Mike Two. Lucio Cigars clarifies the ownership.
Okay. They're gonna say, who, So, they're gonna make sure we all know who's in charge. Luciano Cigars has put out the following clarification regarding ownership of factory and blending. After once again seeing misleading statements published in the cigar media, the company wanted to take time to make a clarifying statement in regard to their brand, Luciano Cigars, and their factory, Datue Tobacos.
The saga continues with this bullshit. Formerly DBA, Tabla Galera, Pichardo, now Luciano Cigars Factory. Oh, now it is Luciano Cigars. Now it is called Luciano Cigars Factory.
Okay. While formerly bore the name of Pichardo in the past, the majority of its ownership actually belongs to Luciano and Tiago. Interesting. This includes the entity as a whole from its employers, premium tobacco, the blender, Luciano Morales, and a reputation as cigar maker.
So you even own the reputation. Really? Yes. All products from Datue, made to Crown Heads, were blended by Luciano, with no exception.
With no exception. No exception. There will be no exception. Luciano Cigars will soon be holding an exclusive press conference in order to address all ongoing questions and issues of our company moves forward.
S. distribution, we will maintain you informed as to the date and time. It's doubled down. Yes.
This could get interesting. It's just more news all the time about Luciano Cigars, formerly called Pichardo, not distributed by Crown Heads. I told you, Strict 9 looks like this. Until we get to the story later, where it's all going the other way.
Crown Heads blended all of the Luciano Cigars, they owned the factory, formerly called Pichardo. The only thing they didn't agree on is that it was formerly called Pichardo. Everybody agrees on that. So let's start, let's, I mean, I could, could you imagine the fucking table?
All right, let's all just agree that the factory name was Pichardo. And then it's like, okay, is that what I'm talking about? Okay. Yeah, okay.
We all agree. Okay. Okay. And then somebody says, and moving forward, it's still Pichardo.
No, no, no, no, no, it's now Luciano's Cigar Factory. I am the vendor, I am the factory owner. Matter of fact, the Crownheads, we make those too, with no exception. You know, it's kind of interesting.
I like that there's something every week. Normally, there's a little fight, there's a story, and then it doesn't carry on. Yeah. These guys are just dragging.
Well, Luciano's doubling down. " We should have a nice crown head story next week, the way this is working. It's like, it makes you wonder, who the fuck is being honest and how committed everybody's gotta be to their lie. You know, that's pretty fucking funny.
Did, uh, that was the end of that? Yeah, it's a very small story. Did anybody? That was actually someone else's story.
I mean, it wasn't a normal supplier. Oh yeah, Cigar Houses podcast? Yes, it wasn't, it wasn't sent directly to us this time. Nobody got Pichardo to comment?
No. It's not, he's not around. It's no longer, it's none of it's his, none of this is yours. He can't talk, it's none of it's his.
Can I just start claiming things? Sure. Like, yeah, this is mine now. Right.
I mean, I don't know, I mean, I'm just making a joke. I'm just making a joke. I obviously don't know the fucking severity of the situation. Who owns what at that point.
The Postnania Cigar Factory, formerly known as Pichardo. Can I take over Nika Sueno? Sure. Hey, this is mine.
And I have blended everything Roma Craft. With no exception. With no exception. Especially the new stuff Skip keeps showing.
Yeah, exactly. I actually channel myself through Skip. He put up that one, some new cigar that he just came out with and it's smoking well or whatever. " Yeah, we did, yeah, you're welcome.
I'm gonna start. You're welcome, buddy. Anything else you need from us? Anything else you need, you just let us know.
Just happy to give, you know what, you take all the credit. Right. It's fine. Nobody will ever know Skip, it's fine.
Well, we're gonna start doing press release, and then when you start saying no, we're gonna just release another press release. Yeah, just backing up what we said and contradicting whatever it is you said. Yeah. Sounds amazing.
The poor Coop actually released prior to like the explosion of the fuckin' whole thing, I think he said something like Groundheads and fuckin' Luciano or, you know. Oh, he probably heard. No, no, no, he said like, you know, that's how business should be done together or something like that. Oh, yeah.
Working together. Working together. I mean, that poor guy just like legitimately stepped on a landmine and was walking his dog or something. The dog from the Airbnb.
The dog, yeah, oh, yeah, that dog. That dog. The dog from the Airbnb. Tatuaje ships the Drac Redux 2.
Charcuterie for everybody. Charcuterie for everyone. Yeah, at the press conference, there'll be charcuterie. And wine.
I just wanted to add that. At the press conference, there will be charcuterie wine, plus a random dog. We were holding an exclusive press conference in order to address all ongoing questions and to use the rest of our charcuterie boards. The wine we have seemed to have gone through since then, but the dog will be in attendance.
The dog will be in attendance and we will work on more wine. We will maintain you informed as to the date and time the dog is available. Okay, we're doing the Tatuai story for one reason. Oh.
I will, okay, first. Okay. There's only one? Only one reason.
Fuck it, let's go. All right, I will throw the photo up here for everyone else, but it's the box. Yeah. It's the box.
It's the box. Does it look familiar? it does everything except the name what yeah it looks like the reaper box yeah i mean exactly well i mean so they have the monsters their monster series is always in the coffin right but i mean this is same color and everything just about as the other one so i could see where you may have a problem no no i agree like this is kind of patreon stuff but i'm gonna tell you right now just touch on it now then we move forward to the other way look look i'll go ahead finish the story i just i don't know how things went down here's my fucking go ahead you go ahead All right, Tatuaje's second Redux in his Monster Series on its way to stores, as Pete Johnson told Cigar Hustler Podcast that the Drac Redux began shipping in stores on Friday. This would have been this past Friday.
The Drac was the second cigar to be released in Tatuaje's Monster Series, debuting in October 2009. The Redux version will come in the same six and three quarter by 52 Belicoso Vitola, with the blend still using Ecuador and Habano Maduro over a Nicaraguan dual binder and filler. But Johnson said that he made a minor tweak to the internal blend to achieve a little more balance of flavor. Oh, this will balance it.
Johnson noted that while there are many similarities between the original and the Redux, there are some differences as the Redux has a covered foot. Oh. Yes. Makes a completely different cigar.
Yeah, totally. While the bands will be embossed as opposed to the flat, so it's shiny versus flat, that makes it different, tastes different that way too. The bands do change the flavor. The printed bands on the original cigars, those bands will also be placed in the traditional position as the original version bands were wrapped around the very bottom, so they moved from a foot to a mid-size.
Mixing it up. I like it. Additionally, while the original images of the release featured a black box, Johnson said that the new retailers were getting a red box. Right, this is the red box.
It changes the flavor too. It also adds flavor. It also adds flavor. This regular box is what retailers are receiving.
Pricing is set at $13 per cigar with production limited to 4,000 boxes of 13 cigars, which is 20% fewer than the amount that Tatuaje released. For the Frank redux in 2021. 20% less. Yes.
It is made at My Father's Cigars. So it's like Disney movies. Now he's going back. Right.
It's like, now we're going to do it in person. We're going to make less. We're going to make live Pinocchio. Right.
Did you watch that? Have you seen that? No, I haven't seen it. I haven't either.
I don't find a whole lot on Disney that I enjoy. I think I'm too old. If you sat home and were watching the Disney movies, I'd have some concerns. Well, that's live action, though, with Tom Hanks.
Yeah. He did good in Elvis. He's Geppetto. He did good in Elvis.
Ah, I still have him watching it. Yeah. He was the snowman. The captain, whatever, or general, or cowboy Bob, or whatever the fuck he is.
Yeah, guy that fucked Elvis. Right. Oh, do you want to say something about this now? Are we done with the Tatuahe thing?
Yes, that is the extent of the story. It's a very large photo that is right here again. Save it for the Patriots. Oh, Justin Andrews texted me back.
Oh, Justin Andrews again. Mike, let me say this, son. Mike, please don't do this to me. I swear to God, I'm going to fly to Florida and rip your Popeye arm and beat your census with it.
My meeting just ended, so I'm free. Mike, oh, oh, oh. Mike, here's your chance. Mike, how long is it?
The meeting's very short. Mike, oh, it's four o'clock. Mike, here's your redemption, Justin. Mike, he's probably pooping.
Mike, because he held it for the whole meeting. Mike, yeah. Mike, that's what I thought. That's what I thought, God damn it!
See, you thought you were gonna... Oh, you're gonna beat me with my Popeye arm. You motherfuckers. I've never been held hostage by a friend, first of all, and then a podcast, second of all.
Jesus Christ, I thought I was gonna have to change my phone number. Yeah, yeah. Well, we gave everything but the last digit, so... The last two, the last two.
Oh, well, you know, there's only... I'm sure you did. But 20 choices they have to run through. Yeah, I mean, I'm sure like only a handful of people would have called you, you would have been fine, you would have survived, but it would have been funny.
How many people actually lifted the yard anyway? I don't know, maybe three. We have Matt Booth here. You know, why buy stuff from a dick?
I know, Matt, I don't know, but Justin sells it anyway. It's true, it's true. Well, Matt should, now that Matt is officially part of the family, he can appreciate the amount of stress That I have on this weekly meeting we have, and all the shit we're dealing with, and then the next minute I'm sitting there going, I gotta get out of this fucking meeting. I gotta get out of this meeting, or they're gonna publish my phone number.
That's right. That's right. This is great. It's fantastic.
I think our last Sunday gravy just dropped. Came in today. Yeah. Oh, good.
Good. Yes. It is. That is it.
Bonito. That's it. You're done. It's a very small box.
So now can I take the fucking, fucking plastic pot that you gave me and just throw that fucking thing away or what do I do with that? Do I fucking put it on eBay or...? I've never gotten so much shit for a pot that I literally gave away. Like you buy the cigars, you get the pot for free, and I got reps calling me going, my daughter could make a pot better than this and she's eight years old.
That's aggressive. First of all, it's not even a full pot, it's a half a pot. I mean, let's be honest. It is a half-pot.
And it helped sell the cigars. Who gave you a hard time? I thought it was pretty cool. I think it was very well thought.
You did a great job. Who gave you the hard time? You want me to call them? You want me to call them for you?
We'll give their phone number out too. Yeah. You want a three-way in? Let's publish their number.
I think it was too many to add to a call. But yeah, I thought it was pretty cool. And guess what? Guess what?
That pot probably has, well, no, definitely has a lot less to do than 10 cigars from AJ for 50 bucks. Yeah, no. You can't beat that deal. Yeah, you just get the pot.
You get a half a pot. Maybe with the last guy, we're giving the pot. Yeah. Oh, here, you take this.
You can have this. You can have this, too. Maybe my next one, I'll do like a backyard barbecue series, and I'll just give you guys like a Weber grill. Oh.
Cigars in there. How about that? Is it going to be plastic? Is it going to say STG on it or something?
I mean, diesel? Oh, of course. Of course. Absolutely.
I have to brand it. But then after you sell the cigars, you guys can keep a grill or raffle the grill off. I think that's my next idea. I love that.
Let's do that. When do we reach helicopter? How do we get... Well, he had that really nice bar.
Yeah. And now the plastic pot. Right, yeah. And now he's going grill.
Or at least he's going back up a little bit. He's going back up a little bit. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm thinking like a one-person diesel helicopter that you can get in and fly in.
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Something maybe like electric or something. Like a little pod, like a little flying pod there? Yeah, just big enough for one person, you know?
Maybe not with a backpack, but you know, you can give the backpack away later. I do have diesel backpacks. There you go. So, look at that.
Well, I've got to do something. Clearly, my cigars don't stand on their own, so I have to give away. It's the accessories, yes, it's the accessories that everybody likes. Like, what's the next big diesel giveaway?
You start doing knives and it's a done deal, buddy, it's a done deal. If only I was Matt Booth and I could just sell $20 cigars without giving anything away. He did give out condoms though at the trade show. Well, that's true.
Maybe some nice diesel condoms would go out. Listen, you just gotta get, here's what you gotta do. You gotta grow out your hair, okay? Okay.
You're going to have to tattoo your entire body. All right. And then what you're going to do is like, well, you start getting some paper clips and you start making your own jewelry, you know, Matt did ask because I don't have any tattoos. So Matt did ask if he could start using my body for all the tattoos that he's run out of space.
There you go. So I feel like that'll be the next evolution of our relationship. I would put that in the contract. Yeah.
I'm walking around with, with Matt Booth tattoos. Yeah. All right. I know.
That's a sign, but I need Justin Andrew's skin. I need Justin Andrew's skin, yeah, for additional tattoos. For more tattoos than I want. I think that'd be fantastic.
All right, well, hey, listen, I'm gonna let you go. I appreciate you answering the phone. Oh, no, no, no, no. I can hit the end button.
I'm not going anywhere. Justin, you really have to ask yourself, how much leverage do you really fucking have in this scenario? I will just hang up the phone. It's fine.
There's nothing you can do about it. This is, I cannot believe you fucking drug me away from my meeting. Yeah, yeah. Drug me away from my desk.
I know. For what? Four and a half minutes? Hey, listen, I'm a small retailer, man, but fuck, I swing a big stick.
I gotta tell you, it is what it is, brother. I'm sorry. You know what? I'll tell you what, if only that hurricane had shifted a few miles over, I wouldn't have to be dealing with this shit.
Dude, you and me both, brother. I'd be so fucking good. I'm not that fortunate. What's the new, here, plug your new Sunday gravy real quick.
What is it? What's it called? The Kamea? The new sundae gravy is porcelaino, it's a 6x52 Toro, typical AJ, full body, a lot of balance, and again, it's a fucking $5 cigar, so I would challenge anyone to find a better $5 cigar, long filler, all premium tobacco, and I'm pretty sure that's the last $5 cigar I'll ever be able to produce with AJ, since like everything else in this world, prices are going up.
Yeah, no shit. No shit. If you find it, enjoy it. I don't know if we got all of them or not.
That was the one thing we were talking about. It was a small box. No, but there was definitely fuckery with the orders or whatever. Yeah, I think we missed one round.
STG's a fucking mess. Let's just be honest. Oh, God, man. Well, yeah, thank God I'm not in charge of shipping.
Well, yet. You guys aren't TAA, are you? No, man. No, man.
Yes, yes, would you like to send us the TAA cigar? You should send that to us. I mean, I don't think that they'd ever let me in there. Michael, you always say yes, you always say yes.
I won't push Atonement then, because that's my, that's the other new one that just came out last week. Yeah. Is that TAA? I'd have to get that from a TAA member.
I'd have to buy that from a TAA member, you know, something like that. Well, that's okay. I might be able to, since you guys were so polite in getting me on the show here, I might be able to send you a box or two, but you can't you can't tell any of your TA friends there. That's very nice.
Well, honestly, we don't have any TA friends. I don't have any friends. This is how I treat my friends. Who are we?
Who are we kidding? You don't have any friends. There's no friends. I might have been your last friend you had, and you're blackmailing me to get on your show.
That's okay, man. Hey, listen, you know, it's called tough love. Hey, whatever works, man. It's tough love, yeah.
Yeah, don't put me to the test. You know what I'm saying? This is fucking... Good Lord.
He was sending some vicious text. He was. " I did like visualizing me chasing you around with your 22-inch bicep and trying to keep the shit out of you with it. That was nice.
That's nice. You're not a small guy. No, he's very tall. He's a big man.
He's a very sturdy thought. I'm not small, but man, I'm getting soft, sitting behind this desk too much. I gotta get back out there and get the routine going. But between Matt Booth and my work, I'm just, I'm just trying to keep my head on straight here.
Oh, well, Matt, Matt Booth was working out for a little bit and then he's like, oh yeah, I'm kind of on like a little bit of a setback because I hurt my elbow. And I was like, so you can't work out your fucking legs? What the fuck? Are you kidding me?
You hurt your elbow? I mean, he's like, you son of a bitch. I don't know Marines ever got hurt. Yeah.
Hey, you get old, you get brittle. It just kind of happens. You know? That is true.
All right, you fuckers. All right, bro. Hey, thank you so much. Thanks for taking our call.
We'll talk to you next week. I'll talk to you later. All right. Please don't.
God, please don't call me. Goodbye. Justin Andrews. Justin Andrews, everybody.
From STG Diesel. Yes, yes, yes. All right, four Camacho lines are discontinued as Davidoff trims their portfolio. Everybody's cutting back, Michael.
We're all scaling back. All scaling back. Total of 62 SKUs will no longer appear on Davidoff and Geneva's USA price list. More than half of the 62 are Camacho cigars.
Tomorrow, oh, this past October 7th, Davidoff, Geneva's USA new price list goes into effect. Did we get that? Oh, we don't get that. We don't get Davidoff.
Oh, yeah. And it's noticeably shorter than the December price list. We just lost our fucking Ford cigar. Yeah, we don't need more Ford cigars anymore.
Now we just shut down. Let's see. Davidoff, Geneva, USA, The Camacho American Barrel-Aged, let's see, The Criolo, The Nicaraguan Barrel-Aged Lines, The other lines being trim, for example, are the three Camacho BXP blends, aren't those the ones they're getting sued about? The BXP, isn't that the… Because I can't have the X's?
Yeah. I think that was another X. It's a totally different X. Totally different X?
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh, okay. So they have more than one X, like me and Phil. You mean the Opus?
You mean the Opus? That's what that is, right? Yeah, yeah. The Opus X?
I can easily confuse it, too. It's all the time. Very confusing. " Everybody gets a chuckle a little bit.
That's a great point. Oh, let's see. The total cuts are as follows. You want all these?
No. There's a lot of them. They'll fill a lot of them. No, let's not.
I'd rather have a short show today. Heritage, Heritage, Cinco, Cinco, American Paralys. Some cases of cigars will continue to be sold, but not... There's more on this page.
We're selling them, we're just not making them. Right, but not in a tubed packaging option. Yeah. We review our portfolio on an ongoing basis looking at performance and consumers' relevance on a global scale, said Lana Frazier, Director of Marketing and Retail for Davidoff in Geneva, USA, in an email to Cigar Hustle Podcast.
Our ambition is to offer the most relevant and attract assortment to our retailers and customers. " Let's just let them know. Well, why? They do a press release.
Yeah. " I tell you, we should do press releases all the time. Hey, Powstanie is not cutting any Vitolas. Yes.
We only have eight. Right. We are not cutting back anything. We're moving forward full portfolio.
The current owners of Nikasuenu, now Powshik Factory, are going to be moving forward with the same line Vitolas and whatever. We're actually adding. Well, easy, easy, that's what, calm down, I won't tell anybody. Okay.
And we will have a charcuterie board at our press conference as well. Oh, and a charcuterie board at the press conference, with a dog. With a dog. With the dog.
You gotta have a dog. You gotta have a dog, apparently. If there isn't a dog, is it really a press release, let's be honest. Good point.
Yeah. That's right. Was there a dog? Sorry, I don't give a shit what you have to say.
Right, there's no, right. Why are you bothered? There's no relevance here. All right, Michael, right after they announce that they are cutting back their cigar production, they're also going to raise prices.
Oh. Davidoff prices increase on October 7th. They did that on the same day. Why not do the press release for the price increase in the following week?
Mix it up. Because they don't want to have to print the things again. You know what, the guy who does it, he probably just wanted to work the one hour. Right, the price of most cigars sold by Davidoff, including brands such as Avvo, Camacho, Zeno, and others, will increase also on Friday, October 7th.
32% increase on average of the range from no increase to more than 20%. I love that. For the Davidoff brand, the increase will be... I love that some, like they probably have one that didn't move.
Then they probably had a handful, a bunch of them that moved to 20. 32%. 56%. Yeah.
19% across three sizes. Oh. So, it is a quite a significant price increase. 70.
Now it's $31. I'm going to tell you right now though, the guy who spends $27 on that cigar, don't give a fuck that it's $31. There's also a $10 per cigar increase to the MSRP on the Royal Release Cigars, one of Devinhoff's. Those are expensive.
Well, yeah. It's like a 10% increase. The increase is $10. Oh, so it's $100 a guy?
Yeah, something like that. That's just ridiculous. Hey, you know what? 5%.
Oh. Let's see if we can find something here that's not going up. Up, up, up, up, up. There's a lot of ups.
Where's the zero one? I'm looking for the zero one. You said there was one. You said there was one that didn't go up at all.
Maybe they just showed the ups. 83%. Which one's that? Cusano 18, Connecticut.
88%. 83%. It's all going up. All going up.
Except, Caldwell, Bilotto discontinued several lines of all the fire. Yeah, because they... They had a fire. Yeah.
Everything burned. They torched all that. The bird. Last month's fire, Tabacalera, William Ventura, and Inter Cigar will have a noticeable impact on at least two of the companies that made cigars of Tabacalera, William Ventura, Caldwell Cigars, and La Barba Bellado.
Premium cigars have discontinued six different lines following the fire. Those brands include: Would you like to guess any? No, it's not. I actually read the whole thing.
There's only six. Last czar. Yeah, Midnight Express, Pacific Standard, La Barba Red, La Barba Purple, Eastern Standard. I actually read the whole Robert Caldwell post that he did, and it was very nice.
And then at the end it says, if you read all this, thank you very much, and you're a better man than I. I was like, first of all, no, I'm not. Second of all, I guess you're right, because that was, I mean, wow, I was committed to the read, you know? I mean, shit, you had a fucking tragedy happen, you know?
Like, fucking, nobody got hurt on that shit, right? It just burned down? I've not heard about any deaths or anything, no. There is a hurricane had to write for Nicaragua now.
There is, but there's going to be a Cat 1 or some shit. It's Nicaragua. Dude, if it had, Esteli is the mountains, like when it, it just fucking, it doesn't stand a chance, that shit. Okay, I got you.
They are keeping the Blayman's Bluff, the Eastern Standard, Long Live the King, Long Live the King, Mad Mofo, and the Ricochet, all three versions. Yes, thank you. Well, Bellato's kind of doing his own thing now with another thing anyways. Oh, that's right, yeah, yeah.
Yeah, the Bellato. Well, he's got his own brand, the Bellato. Yeah, instead of La Barba, he moved to La Balado. Yeah, the red Balado, the orange Balado, purple Balado.
Really? No, it was La Barba. Now it's La Balado. La Balado.
La Balado. La Balado. La Balado. Freud Cigar Company ships the Agape.
Oh, the Agape. Not the Agape, the Agape. The Agape is coming. Yeah, it's Freud Cigar for Matt Tai at, how about that cigar?
How about that cigar? They're shipping the, can I have my camera, please? They're shipping the agape. The agape.
After delay of several months, Freud Cigar Company has been, oh, do you have your thing for the end? May the bridges I burn light the way? Is that what you're gonna say? That seems like an awful copy.
We're supposed to come up with that. That's what, that's what my matches say upstairs. I know, but it's too much similar to theirs. Do I have my quote?
Yes. No, I don't have a quote. Oh. Go fuck yourself, San Diego!
Mike Szczecars is being creamy and slightly spicy with a floral, cocoa, and oak wood sensation. Wow. That was quite the agape. Cigars were produced at Diaz's new factory, Tapicalera Diaz, and have been resting since they were rolled in January.
Price is set at $30 per cigar, $300. Well, that agape's $30 there. The agape is coming. We have the agape coming.
We have the agape coming? Oh, do we really? Yeah. You know what?
It's a new month. Alfredo should be coming by any time now. It's October. It's October.
I wonder what candy he's bringing this week. Yeah. Can we request? Can we request?
Where's my agape? I'm gonna text him right now. Where the fuck is my agape? I love it because he thinks that I'm so angry, but I'm not.
I'll continue with the show. We're running out of time. Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust discontinued two sizes of the Umbago line. The what?
Umbago? The Umbago? I like Umbago. Umbago?
Holy shit! The Umbago. Umbago. Matt, you get that one, Matt?
Did you get that one, Matt? Umbago. It's not. Fuck me, dude.
There you go, Matt. The Umbago. The fuckin' Umbago. A pair of sizes, Dunbarton Tobacco Trust.
Do you think it's age? Is he getting older? I mean, what the fuck is going on? I just read everything fanatically.
Is he losing his mind a little bit? I'm gonna do the show this way, this guy over here. This is, uh... Dunbarton Tobacco, cancelling the...
Oh, fuck. Oh, let's see, they have four Vitolas, the Corona Gorda, the Robusto, the Toro Toro, and the Gordo Gordo. Yeah. Well, Saka announced that these two Vitolas are going away.
He also announced he's going to add two more Vitolas. He's getting rid of, wait, wait, wait, what's he getting rid of? Hold on. Can I guess?
Yes, I have it right here. He's going to get rid of the Corona. No. No, Corona Gorda's right there.
Those are staying? Those are staying. Oh. What sizes did he get rid of?
I didn't realize that was a thing. And what's the other one? Short, in the Churchill. Oh.
Never bought either one of those. What's a, I know what a Churchill, what's a short man? I buy the Corona Gordo and the Toro Toro. Yes, not the Gordo Gordo?
Not the Gordo Gordo. Or the Robusto Robusto? I'm more of a fan of the Umbago fucking. Umbago.
No, the Umbago is a far superior cigar to the Umbago. Yes, it is. It's a different Indian tribe. The Umbago.
It's the hooey, hooey Indians. The hooey, hooey's. From Northern New Hampshire. It's the Huey Lewis and the...
Huey Lewis and the nooses. Umbagos. All right, that's all we got. We're in 50 minutes.
If you have a Florida story. Do you have a listener of the week? I have a listener of the week. Okay, hold on, give me a second.
Okay. Did you not have it? What's going on here? No, I went the wrong way.
Depends how long has we had a listener of the week. Who was a listener of the week? Mitch Smith. Oh, the King of the Broadleaf.
The King of the Broadleaf. However, he's not, you know, he hasn't been really fulfilling. Like, I started going at him with the Habano. Right.
And he's like, oh, SBC. Like, I feel like he ran out. He smoked somebody else's Broadleaf today. That's what I'm saying.
He stopped smoking the Posidas. It's like... Well, I mean, geez, the guy burns it down to... Because it's that good.
It's that good. The Habano's better. I don't know. You don't know?
Oh, no, I mean, he burns and I think, I mean, it's kind of changed the flavor when he gets down that short. Oh, yeah, I mean, he's committed, I mean, what are you even tasting at that point? Ash? Listen, listen, I'm impressed that he doesn't.
Oh, it's very impressive. I'm not impressed that he switched off the Broadleafs, switched to SBC 16 and then La Serena. Both of those are great cigars, but I had a thing going here. Like I was committed to harassing him every day with a brand new Posagna Habano and he has kind of scurried away.
You need to take care of your humidor, Michael. My humidor? Yes. You're taking pictures of cracked cigars.
I don't care. People have noticed. Mitch noticed. Someone else did too.
Who cares? I don't give a fuck. I think Mr. McTadish.
King of the owners. Let me just understand. Understand something. Cobbler's Kids, he's got the worst shoes, okay?
I don't give a fuck about my humidor at home. Who's got the worst shoes? The Cobbler's Kids have the worst shoes. Oh, oh, oh.
I didn't hear what you said. Ever heard that saying? Yes, yes, but I thought you said something about some guys. The kids need shoes.
No, yeah. Throw that in. This guy's kids need shoes. We need to GoFundMe for his shoes?
Yeah, yeah. Oh. I'm going to start a GoFundMe for something. I don't know.
For anything? Yeah. Sure, why not? What the hell?
It's a thing that's going around now. I feel like I need to. Oh. Hurricane Ian, Survivor, something.
You had no damage at your house. I had damage. Oh, the fence. Yeah.
That's damage. I fixed my own fence. I'm replacing it. Oh.
We're getting rid of the shoes. I had to replace a post. I'm done with it. Oh, you're going vinyl?
I'm going vinyl. Is vinyl as strong as wood? Well, it's metal posts. Oh.
Yeah, yeah. And like the posts are what wear away. Because Drew's fence comes down every time there's a big wind. Hey, he's got vinyl.
Well, that's because Drew installed it. That's why I tell my wife. This is how we're going to know if Drew's still listening or not. " What is up?
It's always the same corner. It's a corner. Yeah. By his gate.
I'll just call boots. It's easy. You just slide it all to pieces. I'm not doing it.
It's like a puzzle. I'm not doing it. Like a big puzzle. 5 or something like that.
For a vinyl fence? No. Oh, for a person. For a person.
Oh. So that would honestly put me right at the second half of my life at 38 and a half years old. Everything's going downhill now. So at this point.
Welcome to the downhill. At this point in the game, I refuse to do these things. Fuck it. I'm not doing them.
Oh. Yeah. Send someone. Send someone to do this.
I'm not doing it. No, it's not bougie-ness. It's that I know that I'm no longer young. But I'm 20 years older than you.
Yeah. Ish. I fixed my fence. Well, I'll let you- I only cut myself once.
Perfect. I'll let you know when mine comes down. No, it's vinyl. I only do one.
That's where you draw the line? Yes. I'll give you an umboago. Oh, you'll give me an umboago?
Yeah, I'll throw one in. Complimentary Umbago from my dry-ass humidor in my house. Oh, a Toro Toro? Yeah.
Or a Gordo Gordo? Uh, it's going to, no, it's a Churchill. Very rare. Oh, oh, and the short and fat?
Yeah, and the short and fat. Umbago. Nice. Umbagaga.
Umbagaga? Umbagaga. Umbagaga. It's a whole different cigar now.
Oh, is that one made by, uh, like the, what was that, Little Rascals? Yeah, it's by the Little Rascals. Harry, what are we doing on Patreon again, Michael? You got showered a week, Mike?
Mike, you are the one supposed to bring these. I don't know what to tell you. You don't know what to tell me? Yes, this is your part of the show.
You gotta tell me something. I bring 52 minutes to the show. You had to fill the last eight. Alright, I'm gonna do a factory of the week.
Oh, the new Powstanie factory? That's right, the new Powstanie factory, the Poshik factory, formerly known as Nika Swenja. Excellent. You gotta come up with a Polish name for it.
It's mine, Poshik, the Poshik Factory. I have a jar to use that. I'm boring. Keep it the same.
All right. Let's call it something else. What, like Nika? Nika Poshik.
