Cigar Hustlers Podcast 343 Cooling Down, Weekend Slows, and Foot Ink Dreams

Episode Summary
Episode 343 of A Cigar Hustler's Podcast opens with Mike "BDP" Palmer recounting a brutal week without air conditioning in the Florida heat — a broken thermostat, a shop vac at 11 p.m., and a landlord's DIY refrigeration job that has the repair tech scratching his head. The guys also look back at the prior week's surprise drop-in from Matt Booth, whom they describe as genuinely smart and always "on," and Phil delivers a Fun Fact about the old sailor tradition of pig and rooster foot tattoos meant to protect against drowning (a nod to Ben Rowland's ink).
The news block is the meat of the episode. The UK's newly elected Labour government is reviving the generational tobacco ban that would bar tobacco sales to anyone born after January 1, 2009, plus tougher vaping rules and stiffer penalties for retailers — prompting a rant about a country that won't honor Winston Churchill. Fratello is shipping the second Concealed Carry release, the Detroit River, and the hosts spend real time on how closely its Prohibition-themed artwork resembles RoMa Craft's Intemperance Volstead imagery, debating whether it's a stock image coincidence rather than a deliberate copy (with a detour into rum runner Bill McCoy). Crowns Heads' Las Calaveras Edición Limitada 2024 ships as an all-Nicaraguan blend made at My Father Cigars in four sizes ($13.95–$15.95, $56.95 sampler), marking the line's 10th anniversary with a forthcoming Decimo limited to 2,500 boxes of 10 at $18.95. North Carolina's SB 527 tweaks state law so cigar bars that don't serve food no longer need a standalone building, potentially letting many existing shops add liquor service. League of Fat Bastards continues its international expansion into New Zealand, Malaysia, Hong Kong and the Middle East, and RoMa Craft's new Mastranza line debuts with Spanish-named sizes the hosts cheerfully butcher.
The episode closes with an odd detour into a list of what C- and D-list celebrities charge to appear on podcasts, then the real headline: a press release announcing Mike Palmer's promotion to National Sales Manager for Poshick Distribution, with Mike Stepankiewicz on record about why Palmer was the right internal hire. Shop of the Week is Lake Country Cigars in Wisconsin (multi-vendor event August 19), and the guys head to Patreon for a coffee break with the Nestor Miranda Collection.

Do it. Okay, I have an update again. Are you ready? The show started, what do you mean?
We're waiting on you. Me? The show is going on, it started. Hello.
Hello. Okay. So how was your week? You cut the grass?
Yes. Saturday. Exciting things from Palmer's Life. I cut the grass.
Cut the grass on Saturday. This just did. Adrian did some grocery shopping, and at 11 o'clock at night, the air conditioner went off. Excellent.
Yes, I'm laying there in bed, going through my phone, actually cut and pasting our news for the podcast. I noticed I was getting a little warm. It wasn't hot flashes. It was amazing.
It was starting to get sweaty. I'm like, why am I getting sweaty? It's something wrong. Adrian had been asleep for at least an hour.
So then I ran down and checked the air and noticed, oh, it's three degrees hotter than it's supposed to be, doesn't it? The shitteth have hitteth the pan. Yeah, this is not the first time. I'm quite trained in the broken air conditioner things.
So first thing you think, it's the drain line. It's always what they say. It's got to be the drain line. It's got to be the drain line.
Clearly. 11 o'clock, I'm outside with a shop vac and a flashlight, take the cap off the thing and I'm trying to suck it out like, oh, it's not there. So then you check the float. You're out on the side of the house trying to suck it out, is that what you just said?
Yeah, you should definitely make that a clip. Except I make the clip, so you shut up over that case, so you can't make it. Or I'll play your woo, one suck and it's good. One blow.
One blow. Well, I guess I suck now. No, you gotta suck it one time. You gotta suck the fucking shit out of it.
That's right, yeah. I didn't erase that one off the board. That was one blow. That one's still there.
That wasn't it, so then I checked the float switch on the thing, no water in it at all. Yeah. And there's normally this little green LED light that's on inside the unit. Yeah.
That's not on at all, everything's dead. It sounds like you're a compressor blue or some shit. No, uh... Capacitor.
So there's a guy that working it. Flux capacitor. Yeah, the flux capacitor. Yeah, I was gonna say, just tell me what's wrong, I have to have something to tell my wife, I'll say flux capacitor if you want me to.
She's really not gonna know the difference. So anyway, he fixed a couple of things on the outside unit, fixed a couple of things in the garage, and it's still not coming on, and we trace it all back to the thermostat. The batteries in it, I guess, have corroded, and when he got it to come on, 'cause it came on briefly, And I went, I love you, I'm going to kiss you on the mouth if that's not a problem. He goes, it's not worked right, and it just went back off.
So apparently that burned something out somewhere else. Oh. So he fixed that, but now he's looking for a new thermostat. I don't know how this works, but he's trying to find the exact same thermostat for some reason.
That's stupid. Well, the ones he has on the truck are too big, he said. I don't know what any of this means. Too fancy.
Yeah, I'm guessing. I'm guessing. He goes, "These are three, fours, and five thousands I have in the truck. " Sounds like your landlord is just a cheap bastard.
Yeah, I was going to say, that's probably where I was landing that. Yeah, landlord is a cheap bastard. So, when I left your brother on my sweaty patio, the man was trying to find the thermostat at the parts things. Well, hopefully Greg does what we told him to do.
We told him to slap the AC with a sledgehammer real quick, so that way you can get a new one. That never happens again. He brought a new one with him when he redid the fence in the wintertime. But the thing was huge, and it wouldn't fit in the- he couldn't get the air handler to fit in the garage.
What do you mean? Okay, the house is 20-something years old, so it's an old air handler in the garage. Okay. So, the other one was smaller.
He couldn't get it to fit in the cabinet area. Right. Yeah. Oh, fuck the cabinet area.
Put it somewhere else. I mean, yeah. I don't- like I said, another- Just put it by the door. I don't give a fuck.
Well, doesn't it have to connect in the thing that goes up into the roof? Well, you can redo that. Yeah, you can run the duct, all you can do is just run it slightly over. I mean, that's not hard.
I don't know. Listen, I got this at going at the business sale. You might have, who knows, I don't know. It was gorgeous.
It was like this bronze color and everything. Oh, straight from Little Sandies. Right, maybe, who knows. I don't know, I don't let him leave with the old, the new unit at that point.
Right. " You're going to take that fucking air duct and you're going to figure it out. You're going to take that air handler, I want it plugged in. He had the old one out.
Yeah. Oh, I don't know what to do. You know what it sounds like? It sounds like you're not an American.
I need you to be a American because you can't put that motherfucker in there. He owns a refrigeration company or something out in California. So he rebuilt the entire thing, both units. Oh my God.
So I'm figuring that's half the problem because the air conditioner guy is looking at it and going, why is this here? It should be there. Yeah, that's a disaster. That's a fucking disaster.
So, anyway, apparently now we're down to a thermostat. So, what's that, 80, 90 bucks or something like that, or 100 bucks? No, way less. Right.
Well, that's his cost. If he finds the one from 1972 that he needs to put back on the house. Do you want it Wi-Fi? No, the question is, do you want a white or silver?
I am not getting the Nest unit in the house. Why not? I would have been like, you know what, I'm gonna have a Nest unit, I'll just go to Home Depot, buy the Nest unit, I'll just take it when I leave. Well, I already have to do it with seven ceiling fans, nine light fixtures.
Countertops. Countertops. All that shit's staying. I know, yeah, at this point, I told Adrian that a year ago, you know, when we leave, I'm not taking all this back down.
You might as well have just done, like, a rent-to-own contract with him. You would own it by now. It's too big now. It's just the two of us and the dogs.
Yeah. Half the house we don't go into. And then, did you see the barn dominium she put up yesterday? It's bigger than the damn house.
The barn dominium? She went to Barn Dominium. What's Barn Dominium? It's a metal building turning into a cool place.
Oh, that's her. I'm sorry, are we bothering you? Yes, apparently we are. I don't know, who knows where he's going.
Oh, Barn Dominium, so yeah, it's like a big open concept thing. But the one picture, you can put the house inside of it, the fucking thing's huge, we're not getting that. She went to Barn Dominium, that's the big thing now. That's a big thing now.
It's like a barn that they've turned into a house, but like a big metal barn. Yeah, you have like a master suite up in the loft upstairs. Right. The kitchen is huge.
It opens up into the giant great room and... Okay. They're nice. They're beautiful homes, but it has this big wraparound porch that goes all the way around the one you put the picture up on.
It's too damn big. Does it have AC? Nah, we don't need that. It sounds, I don't know, it doesn't sound like, it sounds like it looks cool until you, you gotta live there.
I don't know, I've never been in one, I've only seen videos and stuff. Well, it's got stairs, like, yeah, like I need stairs at my age. I don't fucking need stairs. I don't need stairs at my age.
Right, yeah, you were just having problems coming down on back. Well, I did jujitsu on Saturday. Oh. So anyways, Sunday we were gonna go to the beach with some friends.
Yeah. But I told her, I go, look, you go ahead and go, I'll stay home. On the outside chance, there is a guy that comes on a Sunday, I can't be 45 minutes to an hour away in somebody else's car at the beach. Right.
Yeah, and I didn't go anyway, so. Right, and Boots was, it must have been closed anyway. Yeah. There's no Boots.
No Phil. No Phil and his local group of celebrities and dignitaries. Yeah. I was trying to have the BDP.
So we stayed home. She laid out in the backyard in the sun. I sat in the house and moved fans and stuff around all day. We had to make sure all the blinds were shot.
Nice. So, yep. It was a good day. Sit around and sweat.
Oh, it's like a sauna. Yeah, kind of, yeah. Nighttime's the worst time when you're trying to sleep. Yeah.
That's when it's the worst. During the day, it wasn't that bad. That's where you had a cold plunge. You know what I mean?
I did take a cold plunge. Yeah, but you needed like, you know, 47 degree. Yeah, apparently I have like off, and then lukewarm. There's not like a cold.
No, cold doesn't exist. Not during the summertime. Minus five pounds, minus 10 pounds. does not exist.
So what did you do? I don't remember. Oh, after my long story? I did jiu-jitsu on Sunday.
Basketball? Can you say you did jiu-jitsu? Oh, we did basketball, yeah. Can you say you did jiu-jitsu on Sunday?
Allegedly. Allegedly, you did. Yeah, I did jiu-jitsu. He had jiu-jitsu noodles.
That's over now. Oh, good. Thank God. He's been doing it for years.
Jiu-jitsu's over? He's been doing it for years. No. The other thing.
Oh. Yeah, so I did that on Sunday, that was cool. Just to the point where we had the chairs that way, I could, and now we're facing again. I hung out at the house a lot Sunday.
How's the boy's arm doing? The boy's arm's, it's getting well, thanks for asking. Is it getting better? Yeah, he's ready to go.
Oh, I bet. Yeah, he couldn't play basketball, but we still showed up to the game. Right, you make him dress up. " He could break it the rest of the way off.
I don't think that she understood how... Wait, she? The female coach? Yeah, she's cool.
She's like a badass. How do we do this? How is there a female coach at men's basketball? At TNBA?
Oh, you're so... It's a new era, Palmer. So progressive. So progressive.
All right. Um... Women live, women... Oh, sorry.
Oh, Lord. We just lost all those viewers. What, both of them? Both female viewers we have?
Sarah's still watching, so... And my wife's still watching. You're right, so there's our two female viewers. No, so, but she didn't understand how bad it was, because we said, well, look, he can't play, because if it gets hurt, and he has to require surgery.
And she goes, well, isn't it just like a sprain? I said, no, it's a fracture. No, it's a crack in the bone, lady. She said, oh, okay.
Did you explain fracture to the woman what that means? No. She said, it's like when you're in the kitchen and you drop a plate. Oh, my Lord.
And it gets a little crack in the plate. Oh my God. Oh my God. We're in trouble.
Please excuse my friend, he's delusional. It's all the heat. It's all the heat. It's been very hot at his house.
Heat trauma. I was leaning on a tree in the shade, and I got bit by an ant on my neck, and then my shirt is all sweat-stained in it. My goodness. Greg's at my house alone.
Right now. He took his pants off. They're gone. He's on the patio.
It's hot. No, he's no longer on the patio. Oh, he's definitely in your bed. No, it's too hot in there.
Why is the bedroom the hottest room in the house? Lack of ventilation. Well, there's no air flow or anything, but there were more fans in that bedroom last night for the wife. Yeah, I'm just talking about like the rooftop or anything like that.
Ah, I gotcha. There's no release for heat. Oh. It just kind of clusters.
Makes sense. Yeah. I'm an experienced person. Well, it is also the only room in the house that has front to back access.
So, like, the sun comes up in the front over the bathroom, which is opened air into the bedroom. So, just to be perfectly clear, the master bedroom is the only bedroom that has front to back access? I knew he was going to say that. Okay, perfect.
That'll be the clip for next week, because I didn't have diarrhea this week. Yeah. Perfect. Ah, the diarrhea thing.
I only get two views, what happened? On the YouTube, yeah, they were on strike there. But they did okay on the other ones. Oh.
But I didn't get as many shares as I wanted. Hey, listen. Do me a favor, listeners and viewers of this fantastic podcast. Yes.
Share my stuff. Share my clips. I need more views. Share them on...
On all platforms. I'm clipping them. Can you share the YouTubes? I don't know.
I'm sure you can. The John Carney one. On YouTube? John Carney one got over 2K.
Was that the one? Where you asked him if they turned off his credit card? Yeah. Yeah, you cut me out with what I said about the e-pass.
That was right after. I didn't hear that. Because you cut it off. You stopped it after you got done talking.
I was just rolling, man. I'm sorry. I'll do one about you this time. I don't care.
No, I will. Don't worry. The front and the back. I thought that was going to be funny and then all of a sudden, oh, I didn't mind.
It was gone. You know, I'm sorry. No, you're fine. Doing the best of what I got.
Yes. And yeah, well, I don't even know what happened last week. I have no idea what, but I had to write it down, whatever I did, but it was productive. What?
I'm just trying to remember where I put all the new sound. We had a visitor. We had a visitor last week, yes. Oh.
We had Matt Booth pop in. Oh. Yes, he did a cigar emergency. He had a cigar emergency.
Yes. I had a good conversation with him, man. It was nice to see him, actually. Yeah.
You know, I feel a little bad for him. He's always on. I feel like he expects people that he's always got to be on. I don't know, man.
I mean, I have normal conversations with him. Yeah? Yeah. Well, even when you guys were in the next room, having the...
The powwow? Yeah, you guys are having like a regular normal conversation. When he drank his water, he'd look at me and it was like he was going down on the water bottle and sort of looking at me funny. Well, maybe that's just the normal thing he wants you to think.
No, he was doing it to try to make me uncomfortable. He likes to make people laugh. Yeah, you're right. Exactly.
And I laughed, but then, you know, I've reached forward and touched him on the leg. I go, look, if I didn't know you so well, I'd be really uncomfortable right now. But this is just you. He's super smart, man.
Yeah, he is. He's a very smart man. Yeah. So, what are we doing for the Bay Junks?
We didn't even mention that. Today, we are doing the Miranda Lambert. What was this? The Miranda Lambert.
Wow. Somebody. I don't know her songs. I know that she's a country singer.
I would definitely buy her cigars. We're doing the coffee break. I can't read who does this. He's Brick.
Nestor Miranda. Nestor Miranda. I was so close with Miranda Lambert. Miranda Lambert?
Really? Nestor Miranda. Nestor Miranda. It's Lido.
Yeah, that's why I'm smoking the post on the Toro first. That's not enough for me. So I look forward to that, because we'll dive into some of the conversation that we had with... I don't know.
Yeah, we'll dive into some of that. Uh, well, we're gonna either a Patreon extra or it might be this week's Patreon. No, we're gonna do a Patreon right now. We're doing the regular show, right?
Oh, Jesus. Oh, Jesus. That's broken. And wet.
Everything's fine. That's okay. You'll just leave that when you go. I'll get it afterwards.
It's in the ashtray. I did notice you did catch it in the ashtray. Good for you. It's in the ashtray.
Sticky, wet, sticky ashtray. What fell off and broke? No, man. Because these little tables are killing all our accessories.
Maybe the gorilla? I have no idea. My bobblehead has no chin. What are you looking at?
I have no idea. Look at a Nestor Miranda Coveybrain? No. We can do a Phil Fun Fact.
We're at 16 minutes. Oh. All right, let's hit it. All right, hold on.
I gotta go to the... Da-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na. Hello, peoples. Hello, peoples.
Hello, peoples. Welcome to Cigar Hustlers' podcast feature, Phil's Fun Facts. Fun fact. Yeah, it does have a word.
Hello, people. Wow, just stopped in a... I was trying to do something else. All right, fellas.
Sailors have a long history of tattoos, and there are many different meanings behind the tattoos. For instance, sailors often get swallows to represent... I would, BDP, I would mount you like a fucking facehugger. I've been thinking about that since I said it earlier.
Wow. I lost my spot. They often get swallows to represent 5,000 nautical miles sailed. I think that's swells.
Oh, fuck, man. What the fuck am I doing with my life? This ain't, it isn't working out. Wait, no, no, no, no, wait, it is gonna work out.
He has a great voice. - He does, doesn't he? - The foot tattoos of pigs and roosters - Big dick energy - are part of that history, started by sailors in the early 1900s, when ships went down - We're in the cigar business, it doesn't make any sense - the crates, the pigs, and chickens were kept and floated, and the animals inside would sometimes be the only survivors of shipwreck. Oh, Lord, I don't know who wrote this - The force is strong.
Sailors started to get these tattoos on their feet to increase survivability and keep them from drowning. That tradition continues to this day. For 45 minutes, life is good. Why do you get the tattoos on your feet?
Whose clip was that? Was that Mikey? Yeah, it was Mikey. Great.
That was great. Great fun fact, Phil. Yes. Thank you.
That was amazing. Who wrote that? What did he say? I don't know.
Something about tattoos on your feet. Yeah, obviously that was... Ben Rowland has feet tattoos. Something about the swells.
And I asked him one day what it was, and he said it's an old sailor tradition, so I assume that's why they did that for Fills Fun Facts. Hi, how are you? Hi, hello? Hello?
Don't play that one. Can you hear me? I'm in a bad signal area. Is this coming through?
Are you receiving me? I've been trying to reach you regarding the warranty on your lubricant. Wow. Who are we going to call with that?
Please, Justin Andrews. He doesn't answer the phone. He doesn't answer on Mondays. Okay, Jack Tronin.
We always call Jack. We always call Jack. I think it's somebody that would like. Mickey Pegg.
He didn't answer the phone we call either. Call Skip. He is in town. Who's he calling?
Brett Fry. No way. Oh, Brett Fry. He would probably have an actual conversation with Matt Booth.
With Matt Booth. They just keep saying that over and over. I had 15 clips in the first six minutes. Yeah.
Oh, it's exhausting. You did a good job cutting those though. Thank you very much. A couple of them had Snickers and stuff and I had to cut out of the middle.
You and I were laughing. Hi, how are you? Trying to reach you over here. All right, we moving on?
Yeah. News? We go news. From the four corners of the world, all the cigar industry news you could possibly need.
The Cigar Hustler Podcast Report with Mike Toon. UK generational tobacco ban resurrected by new labor government. Oh, I saw that. On Tuesday, King Charles will deliver the King's speech.
Hello. Hello, it is me, the King. My wife is ugly, but it doesn't matter. We must stop the tobacco.
Outline the plans of the UK's newly elected government. Expected, those plans include bringing back a proposal that would ban the sale of tobacco products to anyone born after 2018. Now you can say what you were going to say. I don't understand that, you know, one of the fucking biggest icons, I think it's, yeah, one of the biggest icons for- I mean, he has a size named after him.
Yeah. Are we talking about the same guy? Yeah, we are. We are.
James Bond. Yeah, that's right. Fuckin' Winston Churchill. How do you not honor that, dude?
That was a bad motherfucker. Right. And I gotta be honest, if he was a coke addict, you guys should be doing coke at this point. Oh, you know where you can get that, don't you?
You get it from, um... I got quaaludes, I got acids, I got cocaine. Right, Coop's got the cocaine, that's right. Yeah, I don't get that.
He was a big fan of Winston Churchill. Doesn't make any sense to me, you know? Because as of right now, if it wasn't for that dude, dude you'd all be speaking german that's true yeah they'll be part of that german cigar like we should you guys should all fucking have an obligation the cigars right there should be an obligatory cigar for all of you when you turn 18 when you turn 18 right we'll call it the churchill way i don't know smoke a vinston durcheville i'm tired of the shit remember the man tired of it i'm just tired of it. Your dumb fucking rules and your stupid laws.
Tired. But heroin's still good over there, though. Yeah, but that's why their teeth are so bad, though. What are you doing?
I always mess that up. What are you doing? It's gone now. You hit the music symbol, and then you...
What do you want? Nothing. Alright. If anything, the bill should have a much easier time passing now that laborer is in control.
On the 67 votes against the bill in April 59 were conservative members. If possible, the bill would ban the sale of tobacco products to anyone born after January 1st, 2009. In addition, it would make it illegal to sell or give anyone under the age of 18 any vaping products and allow for Secretary of State to enact new vaping regulations. Furthermore, it would increase the penalties for those caught violating tobacco age restriction rules to include...
What'd you hit? Nothing. To... Don't worry about me.
Just read your words. One year banned on selling tobacco and or vaping products for businesses caught repeatedly violating the Ross. I was gonna clear this next story with you because I'm not sure what we should be talking about. Oh, go ahead.
Is it the picture thing? I saw the picture. I think that's fine. Okay.
I didn't know if there was something else. Oh, fuck, man. What the fuck am I doing with my life? This ain't working out.
No, no, it really is. " Fratello is shipping the concealed and carry Detroit River next week. Yeah. The second release of Fratello's concealed carry sub-brand is named after a river that played a pivotal role during the Prohibition era.
Uh-huh. It is called the Detroit River. Is it called... Copyright infringement?
Is it called the Intent Prince of Alstead? Well, the difference is theirs is spaghetti. Oh! His is clear.
It's wavy? No, Skip did spaghetti, he did clear. That's like the different potato chips. The 20% change.
Wavy or classic. It's kind of a gray area. You think that that works? No, I don't think it's 20%.
I don't think that works. I don't think it's enough 20%. But the problem is, did Skip register the spaghetti? The logo?
Yeah. Probably did. Registered the logo. Either way.
Is it called the Intemperance? Look. Either way. You be quiet over there.
Listen, listen, listen. Yes. The reality is that it looks exactly the same like something else in market. It is exactly the same except for the squigglies.
Yeah. The noodles. So, from two different perspectives, number one is like, I don't want to be exactly the same as anybody else in market. Sure.
Now, if I felt that it didn't match that in market as far as a different brand, well, I think it's different. Sure, in your own head. This is not the case here. This looks exactly the fucking same.
Plus, they're doing an entire line based on the prohibition. Are they? Well, the concealed carry one. Yes, but this is the concealed carry line.
They put out the Detroit River one. Right. So, he does the Volstead, the pig, or whatever the name of that one is. I mean, those are all Volsteads, which are based on Prohibition.
Yes. And these are conceal and carries. I listened on a podcast about the Rum Runner. What was his name?
Billy something or other? Billy something or other, yeah. Well, I heard that, too. No, there's a cigar in Volsteads.
I have half my brain today. I don't know why. Billy something. Billy Eilis.
Ira Eilis. No. The singer. No, that's not it.
That's not it. That's not it. He's a rum runner. Right.
It's a good story. The force is strong. You've ashed on my road caster. That wasn't me.
That was you. I don't even have a lit cigar. That's the Bill McCoy. The Bill McCoy.
That's not George or whatever he said. Okay, well you guys look, I'll keep reading. 5x54 Robusto Extra. No information is given about any of the blends I wish the factory is making each release, though the company says the cigars are made in factories in the Dominican Republic.
Billy McCoy. Billy McCoy, that's it. Yeah. Honduras and Nicaragua.
It was, yeah, he was, you know, he'd run rum from the Caribbean. Oh, nice. And then they would sell rum off the boat on international waters. Oh.
Yeah, that's how they did that. That's nice. Pretty cool. Right.
then they would kind of hope that... So, off the coast, obviously. Yeah, I mean, the coast guard was... They can't get to the North Wars from the Great Lakes, because they're lakes.
I was thinking Detroit, this connection of this other story. It's just stupid. Yeah, it's... You know, like...
Wait. So, his is based off of Concealed and Carry? Concealed Carry is the name of the line. And then it's got a Prohibition logo on it.
That's what I'm saying. It doesn't make any sense to me. Yeah. So if you Google, if you go to Halfway and look this up, Boots, you will see the logo, you will understand.
Okay. It looks identical to- Or Phil. Sorry, Phil. I'm struggling here, I don't know what's going on.
I don't either. I'm still having heat stroke. I keep switching my legs, I'm afraid to switch my legs now. I don't turn it into Ant-Man, now I bit by me, it was a radioactive ant bit me on the neck.
Maybe I need some type of foot rest. You think we need Ottomans? We need Ottomans now? Something.
Yeah, see, it's hard, once you start crossing, because then your knee hurts, and your leg goes numb, and now you can still see our feet. I have nice shoes, I like to show them, that's fine. Oh, I like my shoes, too. I love my shoes.
Uh, Las Calaveras Edición Limitada. I'm still not done with this, I'm going back to this. Oh, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I'm going back to this.
I ended this story. No, it's obnoxious. Like, you could've fucking, he could've, he's a fucking rocket scientist. " Is that, you think that is possible?
That he just didn't know? Yeah, yes, look, I'm always going to give somebody the benefit of the doubt. Okay. " I don't think he...
It's not, the logo isn't desirable enough, you know what I mean? No, I don't think he deliberately copied it. I think that photo must be, or that image is a stock image somewhere. And he used it also.
And then somebody might have said, hey, this looks a lot like Volstead from Homecraft. And he went, eh, it's not that close. I think that, I don't think he did that. He's very tall.
He can see everything. So he had to have known. You think so? Because of his height?
He's very tall. He's everything. He's got a great field of view. Plus, he has satellites, a rocket scientist thingy guy, so.
I think that it, I mean, and the other thing is that we're, you know, we've given this clip an extra five minutes worth of conversation, when in all reality, it would have blown right through it. It probably wouldn't even made the fucking. No, probably not, except it was a slow news week. Well, his has bricks on the ground.
Yeah, yeah, right. And no spaghetti. He just colored the spaghetti in. Right, it's a solid spaghetti.
And I got nothing, like, I don't hate the guy. It kind of looks like a- Have you heard anything from the other camp? Have they mentioned it at all? The other camp?
The Roma Craft camp. I mean, I haven't talked to him about it. I didn't know if it would have come up. I mean, he likes to say things.
So this guy, well, the last thing I want to do is just trigger him and fucking have some Facebook diatribe. That's true. I gotta read it. It's not like he would call you personally, he would just flat out put it on Facebook.
Yeah, and that's fine, I just, but it's just a me reading thing, you know what I mean? The assassination attempt, he's all wrapped up in that. Like, I'd rather have the conversation. Oh, yeah, I mean, that's definitely a topic of discussion, for sure.
This looks like if Roma Craft and Drew Estate were to have a baby. You know, yeah. It looks like a can. It's the love child.
Oh, you know what? That's the can, not the band. These coming cans. Yeah.
Well, it has the band right here. Is it on the band, too? Yep. Oh, it is in it.
There it is. That's a terrible idea for a band. Wouldn't that be expensive? Wouldn't that be expensive?
I'm gonna put two people dumping a fucking bucket on a like, what the fuck? Here's the waste that we, we're gonna make your cigar. You know what, I'm gonna tell you right now, I'm not a good marketer, I'm not, you know, like, I'm not that creative, but... You're not doing that?
I'm not, uh, you know, let's just get two people in a fucking dump in some booze. Two people, it looks like they're dumping nuclear waste in something. Yeah, that's what it looks like. They are painting tar on a roof.
Is this in New York City? They're painting tar. Detroit. Oh, that's how the water got bad.
Detroit River, that's how it got bad up there, yes. Oh, I got bad up there. Yes. I don't know.
Ridiculous. Okay, you done now? I feel like I'm done. All right, Las Calaveras Edition Limitada 2024 ships.
Yay! The first two new Las Calaveras blends for 2024 has been released. Uh-huh. Crown Heads is shipping the Las Calaveras Edition Limitada 2024.
Like the last half a dozen or so Las Calaveras releases, it follows a pretty standard format. The blend is made by my father in four sizes, three of which are Sold in 24 count boxes, one of which is offered in a sampler. I thought he was dead. Blendwise, who?
Your father. My father. Yeah. So how's he doing the blend?
He did it before he left it in as well. Oh, okay. So how many more does he have coming? Releases?
Yeah. I don't know, they're timed. Oh, wow. Yeah, the attorney releases them every so often.
Oh, okay. I'll find out what happens. Hear ye. Hear ye.
Hear ye. We have an announcement from the dead man. Palmer's father. Palmer's father would like to announce the new blend of the Las Calaveras.
I mean, that's actually on brand when it comes to Las Calaveras, just for the record. There you go. I mean, a dead guy should have already blended it. Wow.
Blend wise, this year's release is made entirely of Nicaraguan tobacco. Oh. Okay. Entirely.
It's entirely of Nicaraguan. 5x52 is... I like ashing in my pool of ghost energy now. It's nice.
95. Looks like the Detroit River. He's big on the 95. Yeah, that's what they poured out of the can right there.
Oh, right there. That's the Prohibition. Ghost with ashing in there. When I smoked the final blend for this year at Las Calaveras, it immediately took me back to the 20...
" Took me back to the 2015 Las Calaveras. It reminds me of the best-selling one. What happens to be one of my favorite blends in the fairies, said John Huber, co-founder of Crown Heads and hater of Cigar Hustler Podcast. No, he doesn't hate us, come on.
He likes us. And a press release when the cigar was announced last month. Las Calaveras is an annual limited edition. So it's limited annually.
Yeah. So it's only coming out every once in a while. It comes out once a year. There are plenty of limiteds that come out once a year.
Limited annuals. The name comes from the Los Calaveras, Katrina, a zinc etching by Jose Guadalupe Pasada. Guadalupe. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the first release of the Los Calaveras.
Oh, which means the decimo, decimo. North Carolina Tweeho. You didn't announce that they have a special one as well. 95.
That's not the sampler, it's not a sampler. He has another Limited. Yeah, they made one called the Decimo that comes out because of the 10-year anniversary. Oh, yeah, the company expects it to come out.
They don't have it ready yet. So you just blasted through that shit. Well, normally the last paragraph is when Charlie says how great he is and that the PCA is in April or whatever it is. Oh, that's how all of the- That's all Charlie's stories.
I like all of them because I do steal them. Everything on Half Wheel says, and I'm great, and PCA is coming out. Can't wait. April of next year.
Okay. Can't wait to wear my sweats. The MSRP of the, what is that? DeSimo?
95, limited to 2,500 boxes of 10 cigars. Oh. There you go. That's good.
That's a good price. I feel like we could soundboard two things from Phil. Yeah. Oh.
That's good. And what was the other one? Hello peoples. Hello peoples.
And you wouldn't even know that he was gone. Wow. Like if we took a, if we took a mic away. Wow.
We're already taking the camera away. Yeah, well, I mean, but we're gonna go back to, you know, we're gonna start expanding cameras eventually, so... Just as soon as we get more Patreons, do it, do it now. You'd have to have do it, do it now, too, that way this is the trifecta.
Yeah, we don't even know. He's got the one blow and he's sucking on something already. You don't even need the AI. We just have the clips.
I feel privileged to be on the soundboard with Matt Booth. We keep it old school. Oh, and that too, I feel privileged. We'll just cut it right there.
No, don't, don't, don't, just get back, don't take that one off. I feel privileged to be part of the show. Well, I think we might cut that together. North Carolina tweaks the law to allow for more cigar bars in North Carolina.
I thought they were banning... They need more? cigars. Last-minute addition to the bill related to alcohol sales in the state of North Carolina should expand the number of cigar bars.
Yesterday, Governor Roy Cooper signed SB 527, a bill related to the state's Alcoholic Beverage Commission, And the bill is a text that critics have described as last-minute edition that will make it a lot easier to own and operate a cigar bar in North Carolina. Okay. While the state already allows for cigar bars, places that allow for cigar smoking, and serve liquor, previously those businesses were required to be the only entity located in a standalone building. That's a dumb fucking rule.
Well, now they've changed them, Michael. Well, no, you've got to be by yourself. Well, why? Well, because we just want you to be alone.
Oh, okay. Well, now, Michael, the rules have changed. If a cigar bar serves food, it must be located in a standalone building. But, if a cigar bar does not serve food, which is the majority of cigar bars, it does not need to be located in a standalone building.
I don't understand what the difference of food means. What's that? What does the difference of food mean? It's just a way to differentiate between types of stores.
Yeah. You want to feed people when they're drinking. It's good for them. It will greatly increase the number of locations where a cigar bar should be located and likely mean that many existing cigar stores may be eligible to become a cigar bar.
Oh, you can have a store but you couldn't serve liquor. Yeah, that's good. Now you're able to serve liquor. Because I believe you'll buy booze with it.
The headline change the bill is that it allows for cocktails to go. Ah, take these with you. Yeah, drive with these. Just drink them when you get home.
Drink these when you get home. Don't remove the plastic top though. She goes to Garibaldi's and she likes to take the, sometimes she takes the Margaritas to go, which is a nice little addition. Yeah, that's nice.
Yeah. It's like she gets all happy. Like you, you know, like that's her, like I like to go to Universal and go upside down on fucking roller coasters or whatever. Right.
And when we go to Garibaldi's, it's like her happy place. " She has a system. I can't go. You're not allowed to go?
She doesn't like it when I go, because I fuck up the system. You're a downer. No, she has, no. Yes.
It's the way that I execute things. I'll tell you what, it's not. For 45 minutes, life is good. Well, she's gone, so that's why.
Oh, is that what happens? No, I miss her for those 45 minutes. Oh, boy. That's longer than 45 minutes, buddy.
Oh, is it long? You said she got it to go. You said she got it to go. No, no, she goes in to eat, and like, if she brings the kids, like, there's a whole process.
Oh, the kids are allowed to go, but not you? Yeah, I'm just too fast. I'm too fast. I'm like, alright.
Oh, she needs the time. I'm like, let's order the kids food, let's get this going, come on, cha-cha-cha-cha, you know. I have a workout to get to, I gotta go plug, I got things to do. Yeah, I cut about a half hour off that bitch, and she's like, you can't come back.
Not now, dammit, I'm giving my margaritas. Oh my god, okay. So sorry. Yeah.
What were we talking about? The League of Fat Bastards. What? The League of Fat Bastards.
Have you watched Game of Thrones? I'm not liking the new season. Oh, it finally got good. Oh, I must have stopped it right before.
Oh, yeah, it finally got good. The one king is fucked up. Wait, which king is fucked up? The kid.
And now the other one's in charge? " Yeah, and then he went, then he got, he got on the, he went and got on the... Oh, made fun of his... He drunk, drag and drive.
Oh! Yeah. And he got fucked up really bad. DDUX.
Yeah. That sounds amazing. And now the other guy, his brother's in charge. The glass, the guy, the kid with the eye?
Yeah, I like that guy. I like him too. He's cool. He's like, fucking chop the dead rats down, lock everybody in the fucking village, and he's like, fuck him.
He executed like eight things in 10 seconds. That's like me and Garibaldi's. Him and I are like the same person. But you're not allowed.
You don't have one blue eye. I don't have one blue eye, yeah. He probably has two, but one's not real. He's like a husky.
Spoiler. Yeah, he's like a husky. No, he's very thin. Yeah, he likes...
They lock him inside the house because if not, he'll just split. He'll run really far away. Yeah, he's just like a husky. Goodbye.
What the... Huskies are runners. I understand that. We're just playing.
He's just like a husky. Oh, I thought there was an actual scene in the middle. No, he doesn't run away at random. Oh, that's what I thought.
No, he's not an animal. What is he running away? No, he's not a dragon. No, he's not an animal.
No. All right, back to the fat bastards. Sure. All right.
The newest addition is the New Zealand Market, where League of Fat Bastards is working with: Game of Thrones. Lord of the Rings The Hobbit Working with the Lord of the Rings Founder and Managing Director of Quinteros told the guys from the podcast that they are finalizing the initial order this week adding that they are very much looking forward to working with Adam Levine and his team to raise further awareness for his mental health He's like the one How do you know him? Through the, uh, the social media webs. Oh.
Yeah. Gotcha. Well, we should tell us in New Zealand. That's not that easy.
Well, I don't know, you just got to know Adam Levine, apparently. That's, well, you have to understand, like, overall costs are expensive. You go on that singing show. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
America's got the voice. The voice. Adam Levine. He's on the voice.
Jesus Christ. I don't think he's on that anymore. No, he quit. Oh, never mind.
Terrible idea. He said he was done. Malaysia is set to become the next country where the company's cigars will be available. Is it hard to sell one in Malaysia?
Malaysia? I would assume so, I don't know. Trinidad Cigar Group is in the process of registering League of Fat Bastard products in the country. Oh, so Fratello can't use that one.
At least not in Malaysia. It's gonna be registered. That'd be like sumo wrestlers like dumping the bucket. Right, right.
League of Fat Bastard is scheduled to become available in Hong Kong during the fourth quarter of 2024. Oh. As part of a distribution agreement with, uh, I can't even pronounce that. How many Roma Craft fans do you think shouted at this podcast when I was saying, Billy, something, they're all going, McCoy, McCoy, Dow, Dow, Dow.
Finally, the company's working with the Leaf Master to bring its products to the Middle Eastern region in fourth quarter as well, specifically to Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, UAE, and Saudi Arabia. If I owned that shit, I would make you all refer to me as Leaf Master. No, you would refer to me... You want to be leaf master instead of the king?
I am leaf master. No, I don't know leaf master. Oh. What is the first country?
Bahrain. No, I mean, but you can call me like your grace. Oh, New Zealand? Do you want to go your grace?
You can go your grace. Yes, your grace. Like the other people on Kingdom of Thrones. No, it won't stick.
Yeah. Your grace sounds weird. I like the weirdness. I have to get behind it for something to get around here.
Yeah, you really do. Your majesty is what you like to do. Yes, I prefer your majesty. Yes.
Is it majesty like... Yes, Your Majesty. Yes, Your Majesty. Girl version?
What? Majesty, isn't that like for the queen? No, that's the queen, Your Highness. Oh, Your Highness.
Sounds weird. How many brain cells do you think he has? Lefter that he uses. Like two?
Kraft Marquette La Mastrana debuting next week. You guys are sitting here talking about grace and all this stuff. Your grace, yeah. Okay, next.
It's not like Grace at Church, you're not forgiving someone. " Fuck. It'll be Graze. Uh, RoboCraft2Bag's new Mastrama line will go on sale in the first time next week.
Oh. Yeah, at, uh, well, it already went until I think, right? Uh, it was available. This is this week's story.
It was available at Cigar Den, I thought. Yeah, Cigar Den, yeah. Um, it says it here where it is somewhere. I almost went to that event.
- Oh, why didn't you go? Oh yeah, Cigar Den in East Brunswick, New Jersey. - Yeah, Nick. - Susqueen events will take place and non-event shipments will go to retailers in August, so we'll get ours.
- I know too many people. Yeah, Nick's a good guy. " And I said, "Oh, I can't. It's July 19th.
" And then I realized it was August 19th. " And then he didn't text me back. - You made him mad. - So then I text him a few days later.
" I text Nick Malillo that once. Are you a terrible person? " So he knows something. He's obviously in the works with your people.
He doesn't just randomly know that. He might. It's on Facebook. Oh, you know what?
If you have not noticed, my Facebook announcement from when you were in PCA has resurfaced on its own. Yeah. Some people started wishing me a happy birthday. I tried to stop it, the first one that did it.
" But now it's gone. It's gone. It's taken off. And I didn't share it.
I saw it in my history or whatever it's called. Well, hopefully it's far enough away where people will forget and they'll repost. I don't know. You'll get birthdays again at the end of the month?
Double birthdays. Double birthday. Let's see. Martin says the craft cigars have been aged for almost a year.
The three regular production sizes will be, oh, I can't pronounce these. What is he doing? Mastronza, C-I-U-T-E-D-E-L-L-A. What?
Say it again. C-U-C-I-U-T, A-D-E-L-L-L-A. Cuidadalo. That's what it sounds like, Cuidadalo.
Let me see it. Pronounce it, Palmer. Right here in the middle. Pronounce it.
Canzo. Cuidadela. Cuidadela. That sounds better.
Cantalonia? Let me see. It is Cantalonia. That one's right.
It's that middle word. Cantalonia? Yeah. The Castellito, Murcia, and the Caballera, Valencia.
Nice. It's the Catalina Wine Mixer. Fuck around. You know what I think he should do is, I think that he should have changed the name and called it, like, Possible Concealed Carry.
Or the Lunar Project. The Chicago River? The Chicago River. Who are we talking to?
" We have one. We got the one. And then he said, "Yeah, you're right. " That was the jukebox.
Oh yeah, that was good. Martin says he's just scheduled for Q4 2024. In that same post, Martin said he considers cigars to have a Spanish Market Selection Wrapper. I don't know what that means.
As for the name- It's a Spanish Market Selection Wrapper. As for the name, it's inspired by the people who have helped Roma Craft Tobac Take an associated Nicasueno factory to where they are today, and nod to the chef's table. So these are basically his SBC's. Oh, wow.
Hey, you know. But he said it in Spanish. They are his Sudadala Catalonias. I would like him to make a cigar and not make a word.
Just throw letters together. Oh, like a- And watch people try to- Like Elon Musk's kid's name or whatever, some kind of fucking symbol. Just have people just laugh every time somebody says it different. Well, I mean, I gotta be honest, you can make it a word at this point, and the fact of the matter is that people will fuck it up regardless.
Right. True. I mean, I would say more people fuck up Postanya than get it right at this point. Probably so.
Yeah, I don't know. People always say Paustan. Paustani. Paustani.
Paustatan. Paustatan. Why is there such a twang in it? Paustatan.
I like Paustatan. I guess it depends upon where you are. No, I really like them Pousatainies. We got them over here.
Look at that P on there. That stands for Pousatainies. You know, your new one at Connecticut is something special. Right.
Oh, thanks so much. So we have two more stories. We have one story. Yeah.
And then I also have come across a list of fees that people charge to be on podcasts from an agent, from an agency. These are not cigar people. These are regular celebrities, C and D level celebrities. Really?
And they charge to go on podcasts. Yes. Oh, so what you're saying is we should be charging. Yes.
I'm thinking, I didn't know it was a thing. Who... First of all, you know the cigar industry. Who are you going to get the fuck to pay you?
Yeah, no one charges. Well, that's just it. Cigar shows aren't going to pay any other cigar shows. You think it'd be a coupe?
Yeah, a coupe to pay. Well, other than... We're not considered C or D, by the way. We're like J.
No, no, I don't know. But these... J, did you say J? J.
No, in the cigar world, we're probably B&C celebrities. I would imagine. Do you think B and C? I think B and C.
We're not A's. We're not Carlito Fuente or- You can't call somebody up right now. They don't know who you are? Well, okay, but they're not gonna- Well, I don't know.
Nobody pays Carlito probably either, but- Yeah. But like, for example, Marina Sorvino, the actress. I have no idea. I don't know.
You know who she is? No. Uh, how about Perez Hilton? He's not a- he's- Nope.
He's more of an influence. Yeah. He gets between $1,000 and $2,000. Per podcast, it goes on.
Okay, who else you might know? Kato Kaelin? Yeah. 300 bucks.
I'll take it. So does he get like a sandwich or something? I don't know. Jackie the Joke Man Marlin, who used to be on the Howard Spurs a year ago, he gets 300 bucks.
Man, he's not on anything anymore, and he still gets 300? Yeah, I thought that was pretty good, too. " Yeah, you're not going on. Do you know who WWE wrestler Paul London is?
Yes. $200. I'm in. Heywood Nelson from the 70s show, What's Happening?
You probably don't know the show. No, yeah. Alright, nevermind then. $50?
What kind of list is this? You get a solid $50. Look, it's from some guy who sent it to me. What do you want?
Okay, if you think you're not a high-level celebrity. Yeah, some guy sent me an email asking about, you know, I had people on. I went, "Oh, sure. Send me the list.
I will. " I just want the list. You know what? Just charge Coop and then like 25 bucks just so that way you could say they paid us.
Look, listen, I am not gonna be that person. You know, here's what I can tell you is that, you know, like I've met like some social media influencer guys and stuff and some of them are at the gym or whatever. Like some of these guys are just so fucking full of themselves. Yeah, well, some of them they have to say what they do next because you're not gonna know them.
Yeah, I'm like, dude, fucking stop, man. I just said, what's up? I'm not like, oh my God, so many lives. Get that away from the lives!
Are you good over there, bro? okay? What are you doing? Is your respirator going off?
You need more oxygen? It was this weird Jochef butane fuel. It's the buzzer. Christopher Kid Reed from Kid and Play.
Oh, yeah. He gets $300. What? That was like the only thing he ever did.
What level is he, Jay? Was that the kid who wears their clothes backwards or something? Wasn't that their shtick? That was crisscross, bro.
Oh, I was close. Jesus Christ. Well, same era. Same era.
You're killing me. Paul Rodriguez? I don't know. You lost me on this.
I thought it was interesting. They're never on anything. Let me ask you a question, Palmer. That's because they're charging money.
Let me ask you a question. Do you know who any of those people are? Yeah, I know who a lot of them are. Why am I looking at the back of his head?
I don't know where to look. Are they going to fly in for 300 bucks? Because then I know I got my money's worth. No, imagine if they fly in, you got to provide airfare.
I'm not doing that. We're not doing that. You got to take it from the 300. Oh, is that what?
Yeah, yeah, yeah. So they have to fly Spirit. Yeah, get that 70s person on. I'm like, so what do you know about cigars?
I don't know anything about cigars. Cool. So in the past 60 years, what have you done since that fucking show? Well, in the 70s, I was on a highly successful TV sitcom.
Oh, great. On one of the black exploitive shows. Oh, boy. Okay, and finally we have a press release.
This is the one you've been waiting on. Yeah. Is this the one where we're doing it today? Of course, go ahead, fuckin' let her rip, baby, let's go.
