Cigar Hustlers Podcast Episode 309:I Have To Pee

Episode Summary
Episode 309 of A Cigar Hustler's Podcast opens with hosts Mike "Woody" Palmer, Andy Szczepankiewicz ("The King") and producer Phil explaining why the show remains sponsor-free — YouTube has been retroactively deleting cigar podcast episodes, including older uploads from The Cigar Authority, and the crew talks about Patreon support, Rumble as a backup platform, and the absurdity of platform enforcement against cigar content. They also announce winners of a charity fundraiser giveaway that included a 2023 SBC fiver, a Powstanie ashtray, an unreleased Powstanie Apollo Danny Connecticut Corona Gorda, and a Super P t-shirt.
The middle of the show is classic Hustlers banter: Thanksgiving recaps, a son's post-surgery struggle to eat, smoked turkey legs versus a whole bird, no-shoes-in-the-house rules, a still found in a dead guy's house, agave plants and homemade tequila, and Phil's Fun Facts (a dubious 17th-century England cigar-punishment "fact"). There's also shop talk about Keanu getting swept out of the Florida Cigar Club Facebook group, Cigar Coop's 89-rating review of the SBC, and shout-outs to Kiss My Ash Radio.
The news block is the meat of the episode. New Zealand's incoming National Party-led coalition is repealing its generational tobacco ban (which would have blocked anyone born after January 1, 2009 from buying tobacco) while still banning disposable vapes; in the UK, roughly a dozen senior Conservative MPs are pressuring Rishi Sunak to exempt cigars from his own generational smoking ban. Southern Draw becomes the first company to announce a 2024 price increase — a flat 5% across the portfolio (with the Rose of Sharon–era exception of Manzanita left unchanged), its first hike since 2021. CAA data shows 46.6 million premium cigars imported in August 2023, down 3.5% year over year, with Nicaragua supplying about 54%. Also covered: Espinosa's fifth Las Provincias release, ZDT (Zona de Tabaco), honoring Pinar del Río with a Nicaraguan blend in a 6 1/2 x 48 short Churchill packed in a ceramic jar; Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust's Stillwell Star Holiday returning at $15.95; and — an exclusive first reported by Cigar Coop — Fuente Padrón Legends finally shipping, two containers of 375 boxes each, sent on Thanksgiving Day, with pricing and allocation still undisclosed.
The episode closes with the hosts' takes on the eternal "do you sell Cubans?" customer conversation, an upcoming Agonorsa/Fabian event on January 8, a Pedro and KD in-store, a Florida story about a woman who pulled her pants down in the aisle of a Frontier Airlines flight, Shop of the Week (Smoke on the Water in Weston), and Listener of the Week (Alex Travella of Kiss My Ash Radio).

And girls. And ladies and gentlemen, thank you for- away. I'll tell you what I'm giving away. What did you give away, Phil?
An SBC 2023 Fiverr before they released. Oh. A Powstanie ashtray. Oh.
One Apollo Danny, which is the original Powstanie Connecticut Corona Gorda that's not even out. Oh. And then a Super P t-shirt. Oh.
Like you're wearing today that you're modeling. Yeah. Is that a size down? Is that a medium?
No, this is an XL. Is that the one you're going to send? This is, I'll, yeah, I'm going to send this. I'm going to take it off mid-mid.
It will smell like the king. Ooh. Essence. The essence of king.
Essence of king. It reeks confidence. Whoa. So let's see here.
Let me get some of these guys out of the way here. We'll start with the t-shirt. T-shirt. Ladies and gentlemen, the winner, they keep saying you need to log in.
What is going on over there on your computer? My computer? Yes, they keep saying log in. Stop looking at my computer.
It's right there. What do you want me to look at? Look away. Look away.
Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain. Pay no attention. Riveting podcast material, this is riveting. The t-shirt winner...
T-shirt winner is... Oh! Jason Hawkins. Whoa!
Jason Hawkins, you wear a small... So we will send you a small. He doesn't wear a small. Or we could just cut a little bit off of the Kings.
Oh, I think pieces. Jason, reach out to me so I can find out your shirt size, okay? Alright. The Apollo Danny winner will be...
Not the child, the actual... Yeah. Oh my God. Oh, this is nice.
Jason Hogan! Oh, sorry. J-Tron. Oh, Robotron.
Yeah, Robotron. Robotron! You won a, what did you win again? The Apollo Danny.
The Apollo Danny. I red-lighted today in everything. I red-lighted for 20 minutes, just the front. Oh.
Yeah. I watch a half-hour TV show now. It says you're supposed to wear the glasses. Maybe because I can't see the TV.
I'm just burning my eyes. The Powstanie ashtray. Uh-oh. Is Miguel Rocha.
Oh! Not the guy that does How 'Bout That Cigar. Oh, not the guy. No, not the guy that does that.
It's a totally different guy. Totally different guy. Which is awesome, because I think I already sent him some SPCs, because he closed this out. Yes, you did.
And the SPC 23 Fiver, before they are even available. Pause to build tension, everybody. Before they are even available. How do I not have that on the soundboard?
Here is Kyle Hefflinger. Oh my God. Oh my God, Kyle Hefflinger. Congratulations.
He's a retailer. Congratulations, you're a retailer. Oh, you mean he won the cigars? Yeah.
Did anybody else receive it? It used to be, yeah, he does. It used to be Tinder Box. Oh, they can't say that name anymore.
They don't say that name. It's not that one anymore. They don't say that name. I don't want to mess it up.
But thank you, everybody. You work somewhere. Congratulations. Thank you, everybody, for contributing to my kids fundraiser.
That is a congratulations in this month. For everyone. Congratulations, everyone. Thanks for playing.
So let's get right into this. Thanks for playing. So, Coop did a post. He reviewed the SBC.
Oh. Oh, I didn't even see that. Did you see that? No, I didn't see that.
He reviewed last year's. Got an 89. Oh. I don't know how this works.
I feel like that's pretty good. That's pretty good. What's the lowest you could get with him? Now, you sent us a clip of something.
He mentioned he reviewed it before. The SBC. Oh, is that what it was? Yeah, he mentioned it on Kiss My Ass Radio.
Right. Oh, he mentioned, I did not see the review. I always see all this stuff. Yeah, no, he did.
One of our news stories today, only he actually covered. What? Yes, he got an exclusive, apparently. He did?
Yep. Good thing he got it out earlier. I'd be talking about it in about 10 minutes. Oh.
Well, he's just out here, Coop's just out here redeeming himself. He is, he's just cranking away. And he's also, his music show is the number one cigar show now on Feedspot. His music show?
His music show. Is the number one cigar? Is the number one cigar show, yes it is. Dave Burke.
With Dave Burke, yes. I love Dave. And it even says it comes from Australia. I don't understand what goes on over there.
With him? Yeah. You didn't hear the several clicking? Yeah, he's doing it again now.
He's doing it again now. Yeah. And he just looked up. He's clicking, clicking.
Look, I just click it the one time. I'm in business. But you have a button. You could not even hear the click.
I do. So what'd you do this weekend, Michael? Everyone wants to know what sports are going on now. Uh, dude.
How do we turn to Stephen Gabbard Sports? This weekend was kind of low key because Justice had his... Oh, that's right. Oh, both?
Yeah. Oh. I thought it was one or the other. Dude, I'm gonna tell you right now.
It's been pretty stressful. This fucking... We're trying to get this guy to eat. I heard.
Something. He lost some weight. Ice cream? He was always a skinny kid.
You're not filling him with ice cream? Dude. Tons of ice cream. Rocky Road.
But he's not all about it. I don't know. Turtles. Try like a fruit slushie or something?
It came to a point where we had to have a come to Jesus moment. Protein? Give him some of your protein powder. I'm going to if he doesn't start eating.
He started to eat a little bit yesterday. Yeah? I was like... Get him a cupcake.
Listen. You need to fucking eat. You gotta eat something. If you don't eat, I'm gonna have to pummel you.
No, I said you were gonna have to go to the hospital. You want to go to the hospital? Let's take a tube down your nose and your feet in your stomach. Yeah.
And he's... Fairly uncomfortable. And he slowly started to eat. Oh.
But it's been rough. Yeah? Yep. Yep, it's been rough.
Teddy's sitting there eating in front of him going, mm, this is so good. No. Wow. I'd like a Dorito, please, and it's crunchy.
No. What, um, he can't, uh, is he past the ice cream stage? No, he's still at ice cream stage. It's like a whole two-week thing.
It's a long duration. Banana split? And what's funny is, you know, when I talk to people about it, everybody's saying, well, just let him eat whatever he wants. But he doesn't want it.
And I say, dude, I have brought McDonald's shakes. I have brought Wendy's, Frosty's, you know, anything under the sun. Still never had the strawberry Frosty. That he says, yeah, I'll eat.
I'll eat that. And then he doesn't eat it. Does he like try it and still go, "Oh, it still hurts"? No, he says it doesn't hurt.
Oh. Why don't they want to eat? I don't know. Nah, it must.
It must hurt. Is he eating when you're not looking? No. I don't want to eat, Daddy.
So I'm dealing with that. Not eating. We got our Christmas decorations up. Mac and cheese.
So that's done. Feel good about that. Yeah. Mac and cheese, I think he ate some mac and cheese.
That's always a classic for the children. My God, man. Just eat some food. I love it, God.
Everybody have a nice Thanksgiving. I guess Thanksgiving happens as we run last. Well, Thanksgiving wound up being super chill for me. We weren't going to do anything.
Right. Because... Because of the surgery. Justice can't do anything.
Right. And then my other son hit me with this, "Woe is me. " Hey, yeah. I didn't have surgery.
We're not going to have Thanksgiving now. Just because of him. We're going to do everything he wants to do. He's in his room.
I mean, come on. So we turned into a low-key nothing Thanksgiving. Oh, it looked like quite the spread there, Mr. Low-key nothing.
That was low-key. That was low-key. We covered all the things that Jack's wanted. Nice.
Oh, everything he wants. Yeah, sweet potato casserole, all nice and fucking potatoes. You're right, just as everything Jack's wanted. And, you know.
Smoked turkey legs or grilled. Yeah, I'm a big, yeah, I like to smoke the turkey legs. I don't, why, why am I buying this whole fucking turkey? I don't understand it.
I'd much rather be savage as fuck and have everybody have these turkey legs. Eat your turkey leg, right. You know what I mean? A whole bunch of Vikings are on the table.
Yeah, like Game of Thrones. Yeah, exactly. Winter's coming, eat your turkey leg. Exactly.
I think that the kids enjoy that a little bit more, and I definitely enjoy that a little bit more. I think that that's, you know. We saw the photos, you ran around shirtless all day Thanksgiving. Yeah, I ran around shirtless.
I, you know, and I eat steak every day with my hands. Right. Yeah, so why mess around? Have you had your grapes yet?
No, did she tell you about that? Yeah, she's very concerned about my grapes. You're supposed to watch your grapes. Yeah, I'm going to choke on them.
Yes. Doesn't she cut them up in little pieces like for the children? Well, listen, you know, I could tell where I'm at on the barometer of how well prepared I am for the week. Oh.
So there are days when my lunchbox is completely done. Right. And she'll even chop up the grapes. Right.
The whole shebang. It's the... Yeah. That's the part she's where you're going to choke on.
And then there are days where there's nothing built for me. Oh. But the meals are prepped. Right.
She just doesn't load the bag? Yeah, she doesn't load the bag. What is she thinking? I said, okay, this is where I know...
Do you know her position in the company that you have there? It's good to know where I stand with you this week. Oh, she's mad at you. Well, at least she cooked it.
Oh, wow. I'm gonna fuck that. That's where I stand. She's catching up on books and stuff as we speak.
We just talked to her a few minutes ago. She's doing the work for the shop. I can feel the stress. I can feel the stress.
End of the year. Of all the fuckery that we have done. I'm like, no, that goes here. It's amazing what she deals with.
Publix has these, or they did have these giant roasts on sale for like a dollar something, a pound or something. Really? A roast? Like a, yeah, beef, but it's beef.
Yeah. So we bought one of those and cooked yesterday, but my wife used to work at one of the steakhouses. That was her earlier career. Yeah.
So she had to trim, they used to, she had to cut up the steaks in the mornings. So she took this roast, cut it up into big steaks and a bunch of little cube stuff and everything. So we have lunch all week too. Oh, look.
I had a lovely steak and potatoes today for lunch. You're ahead of the curve. Nice. Here you are.
Here you are. Got the deal with my mother. Oh, your mother came to visit. Oh, I missed your mother.
Crazy. Did she tell you she didn't love you? She didn't stick around that long. Well, she had to get to Greg's house.
We had two two-hour intervals within the course of a week. Oh, wow. She's here for a whole week. Yeah, yeah.
Oh, long visit. Yeah. You could only cut it down to the two-hour visits, huh? The two-hour visits, huh?
Yeah, the two two-hour visits. No, no, you don't have to come back, everything's fine, the kids are fine, I'll come back later. Yeah, no, we're gonna be fine. She doesn't respect the no-shoe-off policy in my house, drives me fucking nuts.
Drives, I go, take off your fucking shoes. Take 'em off. I don't want to, Michael. Oh, I forgot.
Greg doesn't make me do this at his house. I forgot. Greg doesn't make me do this at his house. We'll start bringing little booties to your house.
Yeah, you should. Well, you can bring indoor shoes if you're there a lot and just leave 'em by the back door. You know, TikTok has this little saran wrap thing you can put your feet in. Oh, I've seen that.
You've seen that? It's a thousand dollars. I looked at it. It's a thousand dollars.
Yeah. Where it's automatic? Yeah. They have ones that are automatic.
And you put your foot in and... Yeah. It's a thousand bucks. And then they make ones that are probably...
It's kind of expensive. I think they're like 80 bucks. And you put the baggy ones in and you just step your foot in and it just attaches to them. That seems fine.
Just buy those blue booties and stick them in a bag by the door for what? They're expensive. No, they're expensive. Are they really?
Or you could just take your fucking shoes off when you come to my house or just don't bother coming over. Put big Ziploc bags by the back door. I just walked to the backyard. I'm good either way.
I'm good either fucking way. Just don't come over. It's fine. I understand.
I get it. I suck. I don't want to take my shoes off. Then don't come over.
Okay, that's fine. I'll see you at work. Have you noticed a difference with the shoes off? Yeah, of course.
Of course. I got this new steamer. Started steaming. What do you do with the dogs?
What dogs? They don't take their shoes off. You have dogs? I make them take their shoes on.
They don't have shoes. They go in and out and track dirt in. I put the shoes on, they go outside. No, they're actually the one problem that...
Yeah, that's the biggest problem we have are the dogs. Yeah. So I bought this, actually, Lightweight Heavy showed me this thing. It's a steamer.
For the dog's feet? No. Oh, to clean the floor. And I hit the floor with it, and then I wipe it up with a towel.
Oh, we have this giant steamer thing Adrian brings out like once a month and does the entire house with it. Really? It's got like this pad on it. Yeah.
And then when you're done, you throw the pad in the washing machine. Yeah, it's something like that. Something like that. However, I use a brush.
It is a shark steamer. I use like a brush scrubber on the steamer. It's pretty amazing. I think we got it from the dead guy's house.
Oh. I think so. It was probably a good one. We still have a dead guy Christmas tree.
It goes up every year. It's beautiful. Yeah, a lot of dead cool stuff. Yeah, we did.
Oh, you know that big pot I took? I thought it was a big crab pot? It was a still. Oh.
We finally opened it. It was a still? It's a still. I tried to give it to you.
You didn't want it. What does it do? No, I think I tried beer or liquor. You open up, all the different sizes are in it.
The copper coil was in it. Oh, I want that. Can I have that? I gave it to Keanu.
Son of a bitch. I thought I asked you if you wanted it. You said no. You didn't ask me.
Maybe I asked your brother. You don't drink. Why do you want to make your own liquor for? Because I think that'd be cool as shit.
I got agave plants. No directions. I got agave plants growing up, growing around my house. I want to make my own tequila.
The hardest part is no directions. You too, man. Agave plants growing around your house? Yeah.
I don't know. You can just boil it, can't you? I don't know how you make tequila. Someone would like to write in and tell us how to make tequila.
You have to boil it, but then you have to put it in the still. Do you? Mm-hmm. I can break it back from him.
I mean, I gave him as a going away present, so I couldn't say no. Tell him, in order to let him join again, he has to give you the... Hey, listen. Yeah, so Keanu was booted out of the FCC Florida Cigar Club on Facebook.
I didn't even know I did it. But if he doesn't participate, he might have gotten in a sweep one week. And he was affected by that. Apparently.
So I'm not in the Florida Square Club anymore. Why'd you tell everybody but me? He was nervous to tell you. So that's why I brought it up.
He's hoping that somebody else addresses the problem. Somebody else would tell me. Yeah. I'm gonna block him.
Oh God. Make him, and make him say something. Remove it back. And he joins again, I'm not gonna accept it.
Answer these three questions. Answer these three questions. And make them impossible questions. Impossible questions to answer.
Oh, Lord. Do you work at Cigar Hustler? Oh, no, sorry. Everybody have the quits, I kick out of here.
Are you in the industry, still? What are the requirements? Are you really in the industry? Oh, poor Keanu.
What do you mean, poor Keanu? He quit 17 different times, and he still shows up for the meeting every week. Well, they push back my start date. He works on Sundays.
He still works on Sundays. Does he? Yeah, he sent me an online order, and I was so confused. " Wait a second.
I thought he had to go to school on the weekends. He couldn't work the weekends. I don't know. Listen, that's beyond my scope.
I don't know. I just show up. I don't know. Right.
Who am I? Who am I? I don't know. I have no idea.
I know that the KMA guys were talking about us this week with Coop. Coop is out beating the drum. Right. Alex said nice things about us.
Yeah. Alex Travell, la la la la. He said he listened once. Yeah, I had to explain to Boots who he was.
Boots called me and wanted to know who he was. " I had the thing last year. At the Great Smoke? Oh, yeah.
Looks like it's going to be quite the event this year. You didn't say you know who I am? Do you know who I am? Yeah, the dragon or whatever the hell.
Chinese New Year. Yeah. I'm surprised you didn't get a tap to help run it with your Chinese expertise. I know nothing about dragons.
Are you sure? Yes. Stay away from those. I feel like you know a lot about dragons.
There's a lot about dragons. Not allowed to talk about it. And how was your Thanksgiving, sir? It was good.
What did Phil do? Well, Phil didn't do a lot. Phil and Mrs. Phil have people over?
Boots did a lot. Last we heard about Phil's wife, she was on vacation with her new boyfriend because she thought you were dead. Oh, yeah. That was a long time ago.
Right, I don't know if she ever came back. You guys reconciled? Yeah, sure. You guys worked it out?
That's good. He's not good at ad-libbing, is he? Not at all. Whenever it gets awkward for him, he shuts down.
Yes, he does. Like, we lost him on the group text yesterday when we were giving him shit about our lighting. The lighting. I'm leaving.
I'm done now. I'm going. Will you fucking relax? Taking my ball and going home.
I had deep fried turkey. Oh! It was good. That's nice.
Very delicious. Yeah? Mm-hmm. You have any greens?
Mm, delicious. Oh, they had all that, but I don't eat. You don't eat the greens? No.
No. Mashed potatoes? So, Tia's dad's girlfriend's side of the family was all there. Tia's dad's girlfriend's side of the family, okay, and they're very southern, so they had all that, you know, corn pudding, and greens, and they had like some called like a cowboy casserole, yeah, yeah, they had that, nice, whole bunch of stuff, but I didn't gain any weight from Thanksgiving, I did all right, I ate, but then Sunday I went fucking nuts, and I was up like two pounds, oh, yeah.
All the leftovers. I just ate everything under the sun on Sunday. I don't know. Stress.
Yeah. From your son's surgery. So all the milkshakes and things that have been filing up, you just went through them. Yeah.
There's a bunch of ice cream available. Ice cream, milkshakes, macaroni, cheese, all this shit. We don't want to go bad. We paid for this.
Look, kid, if you're not eating, I'll just fucking crush all of it. Tell mommy you ate it. Tell mommy you ate it. What do you mean he's not hungry?
I bought these little yogurt things with the little M&Ms on them. Oh, those are great. Yeah, those are fantastic. Apparently, Justice thought that I bought them for him.
Oh, silly boy. They had M&M's on it. Wait, wait, he was going to eat something and you stopped them? No, I didn't.
Don't eat that! Once Brady told me, well, he thought they were for him. I stopped. I left two alone.
The seven? No, there was four. I would have crushed all four of them. You didn't just eat the M&M's off the top?
No, man. I went with a little mixy, a little mixy-mixy. I saw on TikTok, somebody was making an M&M Thanksgiving Casualty. It's an M&M Thanksgiving casserole.
That sounds fantastic. It was just all different kinds of M&M's. It was a joke. Oh.
They like, you know, put the cookie crumb ones on the bottom. Oh, I love that. Put a cake one in. I did see that with like the peanut, the peanut butter, the regular.
We must be getting time for Phil's Fun Fact. Well, we're looking at Teddy's birthday's coming up. Oh. And we were looking at cakes.
Yeah. And Publix makes this Kit Kat cake. Oh. And then it's doused with M&M's on top.
Oh. Sounds delicious. Fantastic. You want that for your birthday?
Maybe, yeah. I don't know. Kit Kats remind me of my father. That was his favorite chocolate.
You know what's inside a Kit Kat? Delicious. Other Kit Kats. They chop up the ones that don't pass inspection.
Really? Yep. Oh, so Kit Kats are cannibals. Exactly.
Wait a second. Exactly. Inside of a Kit Kat is other Kit Kats that they chop up. Right.
So if they make one and it's no good, they chop it up and put it inside the next one. So how'd they start with the first one? Yeah, how'd they start with the first one? I guess they fucked up the first two.
They just fucked up the first two. I guess, I don't know. Started rolling from that point forward. Yeah.
Wow. So they just have a whole bunch of filler Kit Kats. Right. Maybe they had a really high QC rating there in the beginning.
" Chop 'em up, put 'em inside. Just throw them in there. Nobody will know. They're just gonna fucking eat the whole thing anyways.
They can really help with their EBITDA. Right. Yeah. Yeah.
Alright, he wants to do fills one facts. What's your waste? We don't have waste. No ways.
No ways here at all. Yeah. From the four corners. Oh, that's not it.
Rookie move. Rookie move, pal. Welcome to Phil Fun Facts. Welcome to Cigar Hustlers podcast feature, Phil's Fun Facts.
Oh, hello, peoples. All right. Hit the gobble. Hit the gobble.
Did you know that during the 17th century in England, there was a brief trend where smoking cigars was prohibited. However, the punishment for being caught smoking a cigar was to have to wear a wooden collar filled with burning tobacco around your neck. Is this where the phrase hot under the collar came from? I don't know.
Is it? I don't know. Is it you little smoked turkey, you? This is the last week for the turkey.
We're going to miss the turkey. Thank God. It could be a Christmas ham. Yeah, we don't have anything ordered yet, but we're going to...
I'll get on it We have a good back and forth where we review together. We review the mask selections for the next month. Yeah, and then we determine like, oh yeah, that's a good one. I think a Christmas hand would be amazing.
That would be fantastic. Is there a Christmas tree that exists? Oh, maybe. Oh, God.
You know what would be awesome? A fucking Hanukkah mask. Like the eight candles, the whole candle. I think we're really sending the wrong message there.
Are we? What kind of message? Maybe we rotate all the holidays. Yeah.
A Gwanza mask, a Hanukkah mask. The Christmas mask. The Christmas mask. Yeah.
Last week we'll do the Christmas mask. Then we do like Krampus at the end, maybe? Oh, Krampus. Yeah.
Oh, there's a Krampus mask. I've already seen that. Oh, yes. You start getting into decorating and stuff and now you're all into the mask thing.
Should we decorate the studio for Christmas? Maybe. Yeah, let's do that. Christmas lights on the table?
Yeah, we'll do some Christmas lights. A little tree. We had a tree, but we threw it away. We got rid of the tree?
Yeah, because you didn't like the Christmas decorations. I'm sure the dollar store has a baby one. I'm sure they do. Yeah, we'll make it.
Oh, a little nativity set. Oh, let's dress him up as baby Jesus. We just gotta get him to shave his head and beard. Can you shave, Phil, please?
No. Shave everything. Swaddle this baby. Swaddle him.
Just put him in swaddle. Yeah, we'll swaddle you up. You know, Keanu needs another job. Why don't you put his head on there and dress him up?
You wanna give him your job? I mean, are you done? Is that your sign? Are you leaving?
He's gonna be the new engineer. You finally broke? Is that what happened? No.
Oh. Okay, just making sure. Can't hang anymore, eh? Okay.
A baby Jesus. Baby Jesus. Baby Jesus, what did him in? Well, Phil's Jewish, so he's offended.
He's offended. Opposite. Opposite. Opposite?
You're excited? Phil's last name is Epstein. Nobody knew that. So you briefly touched on the fact that the Cigar Authority has lost their- That's not a news story, but yeah.
Has lost their- I know, that's why I'm bringing it up. Oh, okay, go ahead. Has lost their- some YouTube episodes because of their sponsors or- Because they advertise cigar- So they have gone back, from what they said, YouTube has gone back and started deleting their older shows, but not all of them, it's weird, so it's just kind of weird. And it is a little absurd that YouTube is just kind of crushing.
" Yeah, so what happened, do you think somebody has a new job or some shit? I don't know, maybe somebody reported them, maybe somebody got mad. I want, you know, that reminds me of... Maybe they have trigger words.
I watched Bill Burr's movie of old dads. Old Dads. Yeah. And it's a lot of that shit.
Like, they do a non-themed, themed party or whatever, and he's attacking a vapor while he's smoking a cigar. " It's totally different. You know, and they go back and forth. That is how they act.
It's pretty funny. So that's pretty much what YouTube's doing right now. They're in their sensitive trial. They probably have like a trigger thing, like if you say something.
A word they're looking for, or a phrase or something, yeah. Yeah. Brad Wraith from that show he does, he's off YouTube, I think now. Yeah.
Because you get the three strikes and you're out, you got his third strike, so they're on Bumble. Which we looked at years ago when this happened, this happened once before in our show's lifetime. Yeah. And we looked at Bumble and… Rumble.
Well… Rumble, is it Rumble? Yeah, Bumble's a dating app. Oh, I love shows, I don't know, I don't know. Well, maybe they're on that too, who knows.
Oh, it could be, yeah. It could be on that, too. Well, we can add it, if you want to add it. Rumble?
It's just extra work. No, I wouldn't even do that. I know, I don't want to do that. I don't mind you doing that.
You don't mind me doing more things. What's the big deal? Put it up somewhere else. You should probably start prepping for that.
Yeah, it might be good to pay the way, just in case. Nah, we don't advertise cigars. We barely even talk about them anymore. We've spent 30 minutes just talking about us.
That's what we've done for the last 309 episodes, sir. Yes, I understand. Yeah, we just, we talk about ourselves, and then we fucking go in and belliger everything about cigars. So maybe they think we're anti-cigars.
Oh, yeah, yeah, we're anti-cigars. You should promote us, you too. Start putting ads on our shows, it'd be nice. Yeah, about how tobacco kills.
About how tobacco kills. Or maybe they just watch the first two minutes and see if there's anything about cigars. Maybe, they're the worst first half hour. Oh, they're smoking, but they're not saying they're smoking, so it's fine.
Yeah, there's nothing there. How does, like, Joe Rogan not get kicked off? He's not on YouTube. Yes, he is.
Oh, is he? Mm-hmm. Because he's Joe Rogan. He doesn't sell cigars.
Yeah, he doesn't sell cigars. He promotes. Not really. Just because he's smoking them?
He talks about brands and stuff like that. Yeah, but he doesn't have, like, you know, this is the Zykar Minute, and let me light my cigar. How about that cigar? This is the Zykar Minute.
Torch, something they do, whatever. Torch cam or something? Torch cam. How about that cigar?
Yeah. Something where Matt turns. Where Matt turns. Yeah, Matt gets, right.
Right. The Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust Smoke Moment, la la la. Just don't make fun of him. Who?
Saka, don't say that even back. Why? 'Cause he's sponsored by the other show. But he can't fuck with my pots and pans.
Not our pots and pans, that's why we still have the pants. I will never be beholden. I like to be who I am. You are who you are, Michael.
An icon in this industry. Thank you. We are. What are we saying in the game?
Are we icons or are we... Oh, we're world famous. Famous, Cass, Icon, Icon, Icon, Icon, Icon, You wanna change it? Icon?
Yeah, sure. Okay, we'll change it, Icon. All right, let's go to the news. Let's hear what's going on, I'm Brian Jacobson.
Oh, hello. Oh, Mike. Dude, you, what is going on today? They had the red light backwards.
From the four corners of the world, all the cigar industry news you could possibly need. The Cigar Hustler podcast report with Mike Toon. New Zealand's government is scrapping the generational tobacco ban. Oh.
New Zealand's landmark generational tobacco ban, one that banned the And anyone born after January 1st, 2009 for purchasing tobacco products is set to be repealed. So... I don't understand that. So, in general...
You don't understand how it's repealed? No, they just... This just came up in the news, like, what, a couple... Like, maybe a month ago.
That they were doing it? Yeah. No, that was Britain we were talking about before. Oh, okay.
Yeah, it's a totally different country. Obviously. Obviously. New Zealand's like a big island.
You know what's really kind of funny? I feel like, from a political standpoint... Right? They just do the tobacco thing just to fill time.
Could be. You know what we're gonna do? We're gonna go after tobacco. And when I say we're gonna go after tobacco, we're gonna not go after tobacco because it's wrong.
But then we're gonna go after tobacco. Well, last month the country held elections which saw the National Party win more seats than the other party. The new coalition government, led by the National Party in New Zealand's FIRST, has announced that it plans to repeal the ban. So a new group is in charge.
And they said, "Oh, you know what? " They like tobacco. This is stupid. We're over-regulating.
Right. Hmm. This was in addition to the country's previous law, which banned anyone under the age of 18 for purchasing tobacco products. People that were 14 to 17 years old would have been grandfathered in.
Oh. Huh. Hmm. But anyone born after 2008 would never have been able to legally purchase tobacco products in New Zealand.
Never. So now, people under the age of 18 to the age of 14 can now purchase. Well, no, well, when they become of age, they become of age, they can smoke, there's no grandfathered in anymore. So 18.
18. Yes. It's better than America. Now they're looking to repeal.
Oh, the addition. In addition, the law also restrict the number of retailers that could sell tobacco and vaping products and introduce nicotine limits for cigars. The new government plans to overturn these provisions by March of 2024. Well, that's good.
We would love a 10. I think it's funny. And then when another government comes in in 2026, they're going to say: Banning on tobacco. We wish to shut down the tobacco.
They are introducing new laws banning disposable vaping products and increasing the fines for those caught selling to anyone under the age of 18 years old. That's a great law. Do you think so? For the vapors to be banned?
You want to ban the vapors? Yeah, well, I think the product is not a good product. I don't, you know, I personally, I don't give a fuck if you're a vapor or you're not a vapor, I think the part that agitates me is when somebody fucking reaches into their pocket in the middle of a crowd real quick and like, and they make this fucking poof cloud. And they wave it away, thinking nobody can smell them to a degree.
And they think that they're slick, and you just really look like an asshole. You just look fucking stupid, you know? Well, to us, yes. What if?
I think to anybody. No, I don't think some people mind. Do you get aggravated if somebody comes in the cigar shop with a vape, with a battery? No, we sell.
Do I get aggravated? No, I don't get aggravated if somebody comes. I will tell you, there was one time I was working behind the register, and this is when it just started vaping, just started. And this fucking kid came in, and I say kid, but he was probably 23, 24 years old.
Kid. He comes in with this fucking megalodon that he probably made himself. Oh, the battery out of the car. It used to be huge, yeah, like a car battery.
Yeah, and he sucked on this battery, and he blew this gigantic cloud. It was almost like Batman was in the room, and he had to make an escape. Oh, I am Batman. But it smelled like cotton candy.
Oh, wow. And I said, dude, what the fuck, man? It's a great trick, and it smells good. Why would you do that?
Right, Agavan. So that kind of bothered me. " He can fix anything. " Yeah, it's broken.
Looks like it's broke. Yeah, it's done. Should get a new one. Yeah.
Do you have fluid in it? Yeah, you do? Okay, good. Broke, I think.
Well, he saved the day. He went and bought another one. Took your recommendation. " I was like, yeah, I don't know.
Yeah. Uh, that's where you just start lighting it. Just take a lighter to it. Does this say AAA?
Is this how it works? Yeah. They say if you hit it on the table, it'll make it work. Put it in the fridge.
Oh. Oh. I'll go with that next time. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Cause that'd buy some time. They say you can put it in the freezer for 48 hours. Nothing? No, nothing, huh?
Wow. Call me in two days. I heard you gotta put it in rice. Can you put it in rice?
That would be funny. All right, pressure built to exempt cigars from a proposed UK generational smoking ban. Oh, so it's going around now. It's going around.
Last month, Prime Minister Risi Sunak unveiled a proposal that would ban anyone but born after... Why is this January 1st, 2009? Seems to be the date everybody's going with. So what is he trying to do?
He's trying to grandfather in anybody? Hold on. No, he doesn't want anybody to be able to, again, born after January 1st, 2009. So this guy is looking to shut it down?
No, no, this is the guy who wants it, but everybody else is shutting it down. " Some members of his party are allegedly pushing back on the plan unless cigars are exempt. Ah, that's the word. According to a report from The Sun, a group of senior MPs, Mike Palmers, are pressuring The Sun to describe the number as a dozen, oh, there's a dozen of them.
For context, there are 650 members of the House of Commons, 350 of which belong to the Conservative Party. You may be at least, they believe you have to be at least 18 years old to purchase tobacco products from the UK. This world's a fucking mess. It'd be nice if that one was on, when I'm doing the news.
Well, Mike, you start, okay, whatever. You know, Keanu would do a better job. Yeah, there you go. Yeah, baby Jesus Keanu.
Brandon would be baby Jesus Brandon. Yeah, he would totally be baby Jesus. Yeah, he'd be a mute baby Jesus. Southern Draw announces a price increase for 2024.
Southerndraw Cigars has informed its retailers of plans to increase prices beginning on January 1st, 2024. In a letter sent to retailers, the company says the increase was necessitated as a response to inflation and the increased cost of labor, materials, and transportation. So basically everything. That was sold last year.
As such, the company will be implementing a flat 5% increase across its entire portfolio, except for the one that tastes like an apple. Monsana. Yeah, thank you. Which will not see any increases.
Also not change its shipping costs or sending orders to retailers. The Apple stays the same. This marks the first price increase for Southern Draw since 2021. Southern Draw.
And Southern Draw is the first company to announce a price increase for 2024. So that's his first price increase in a long time. Now you go to two. Since 2021.
So in three years. Man, it kind of fucked that up. It seems kind of low. Man, I missed the space there.
That's what happened. Cigar Importers Remain Steady, Cigar Imports Remain Steady through August 2023. " See, he was talking, he should have been on two. Yeah, so that was way far away.
Well, you know what, we're just going to go on three the whole time. You know what, Baby Jesus and Keanu, we're going to take care of that. S. 6 million premium cigars in August, according to a new report from the Cigars...
It's okay, he'll be edited out of the show completely. 5% drop compared to 2022. What happened now? Start over.
Who did what now? 6 million cigars as of August. 5% drop compared to 2022. So it's down.
We're down. But they're saying it's steady. But it's steady. It's steadily down.
We're steadily down. We're steadily down. Right. Those numbers are in line with premium cigar imports for 2023 as a whole.
The person in the burning office, "I'm fine. " Nicaragua has supplied 100-- What is it? Oh, Nicaragua. Jeez Louise.
S. 2%. You know what drives me nuts? Tell us, tell us.
What? Not having your grapes cut up in your lunch? Yeah, tell us. Yes, tell us.
" Oh, I hate that question. Hey, what do you do for a living? " I don't want to go into, I don't want to say, "Well, you know, I got all these things. " I have a cigar empire.
I am. You should just say that. Yeah. I have a cigar empire.
I am the cigar industry. I am cigar hustler, you're not... So... So...
Start choking 'em. So, but then they ask me, and then it always goes into... Don't you know those aren't good for you? No, no.
Do you have one? It's way worse than that. Oh! I would much rather deal with that.
You know, you kill babies? No. That would be worse. Here's what they always do.
Oh. I got a buddy. Oh! Yeah, yeah, yeah.
He knows so-and-so from the parliament, or whatever, like, he's linked to some type of government, and I get Cubans for $12. It's always a Cuban. And I'm just like... Oh, yeah, I don't like those.
The fuck? I'm like, oh, okay. Or, you know, oh, the Cubans, the Cuban cigars. Do you sell those?
No, I don't sell those. Cancel this. I came in Friday. Can I help you?
Yes, I'd like a Cuban cigar. No, I don't. Oh, just take them to Cohibas, Dominican Republics. Just show them the Cohibas.
Well, that's usually whatever you do. Yeah, no, oh, you want a Cohiba. Or I get them to buy a Finca Santa Fe. Yeah, oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
It's, they say these have Cuban tobacco. This is, this is the... We can't say it out loud. They're from, they're Cuban descent.
They're made by a Cuban... I should have just held them in Golden Bulls. Don't fuck around. These are from...
Straight from Cuba. Straight from Cuba. It's so expensive. Yeah.
In that glass case. Yeah, they have the golden seal on them. It's a Cuban seal. The Fidel seal.
Yeah. Yeah. It's from Fidel. These were Fidel's private blends.
Not the ones that were poisoned, of course. Yeah, no, not those. The unpoisoned ones. Drives me nuts, man.
Drives me nuts. Yep. I can't wait. It's like...
They didn't ask you if you had... Oh, do you have some with you? Do I have some cigars on me? Yeah.
No, Cubans. The Cubans. I should ask them? " I'm like, "You know cigars are $12 to $15 a piece, honey?
" Right? Yeah. Do you know how I am? That's like me walking in and going, "Hey, you got a bottle of scotch?
" I'd like to try that. I'd like to try that. Do you have a bottle of $12 or $15 liquor? I wonder if they do that at like Walgreens.
What? Can I taste that? On liquor? You can at ABC and those places.
Yeah, those places are great. And it works. Yeah. Yeah.
Because I think for Halloween or something, we did that. I want to buy a bunch of bourbon that was like pumpkin flavored or something. Oh, we got you. That was delicious.
It went well. Yeah. This is good. After the ninth bottle.
I said, this is good. Yeah, I'll take some for them. I'll take some. Where else are we going?
Who else can we cover with this? Do you guys have any Cubans? Do you have any Cubans? Oh, they do.
Espinosa's newest Las Provincia release, ZDT, arriving at retailers. Yeah, I saw that. Too bad my fucking sales rep doesn't tell me anything about any of this stuff. Oh.
Well, it's not around. Right. The fifth installment in Espinosa Premium Cigars Las Provincia line, ZDT, which honors the province of Pina Del Rio. Pina Del Rio?
I am. I am. I am. Pino Del Rio?
Pino Del Rio? The western end of the island has begun arriving at retailers. Where did that guy go? Yeah, he's disappeared.
No, it's as much easier to sell these cubes. He's not a lot out of the country anymore. The acronym is the cigar's name stands for Zona de Tobacco. A reference to Pinar del Rios being the providence where premium cigar tobacco is grown in Cuba.
The blend, however, is all Nicaraguan. So we've made this cigar... Yeah, okay. Yes.
It's a membrane. Yes. Corojo wrapper atop a Nicaraguan binder and fillers, which gets presented in a 6 1/2 by 48 short Churchill Vitola. Cigars are being produced at the San Latino factory in Nicaragua, as with the other Las...
What? Oh, I thought you were calling somebody. No. Las 6 Provincias released.
The package is more dressed up than a traditional cigar box. The cigars come in a ceramic jar that features artwork by Edwin Guterres. It doesn't matter. We didn't get any of it.
Who created artistic... We didn't even hear about it. I asked your brother if you got it, and he said no, you weren't allowed. I wasn't allowed.
That's what he said. I believe him. This is really a passion project for me. My son and the team.
We have been creative on this project since the beginning, said Erik Espinosa in a press release. This year's project is simply beautiful. So, Fabian was up here. Yes.
Agonorsa? Yeah. And we hung out for a little bit. You were working.
Yes, I was working. I didn't even talk to you. That wasn't this Friday. It was about two weeks ago.
On the 8th, we're going to do a little thing with him. Oh, nice. A thing up there or a thing down here? Both.
Oh. We're going to do a little thing. What day? January 8th.
Oh, January 8th. January 8th. I thought you said December. No, you're not here.
You're not here. You're fucking gallivanting in the Midwest. Oh, by the way, what do you guys have to cover Dana's show that week, too? Yeah, you already told us that.
Okay. Yeah. Boot said he's got it. Okay.
I think she's using the big room that day, too. Oh. I'll verify this Friday. All right.
Good job. Are we doing something... What is it, Brandon? I'll have Keanu do it.
Are they getting fired yet, or...? No. Are we doing anything with Pedro and KD down here on Friday? Down here?
Yeah, we should. When is that? It's Friday. This Friday?
Coming up. Holy shit, really? Yeah. Oh my God.
But then we have a problem with... We've got to get some email blasts going on. We've got to get some email blasts going on. Well, I put it in mine today.
Did you? The event. Okay. They had the other room being used at that time.
Oh, yeah? Right before. Well, we'll wait until they're done. Okay.
What time are they getting here? I don't know. I don't know. Who knows?
We're figuring it out. We build the plane as it's going down. " Yes. " is always the line.
" The dog died now. Oh, I feel sorry. The dog died. The dog died.
Still all stars limited edition holiday. The holiday began shipping. Oh, yep. Did we get that?
No. I skipped that one. For the second consecutive year, Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust created a limited edition version of its Stillwell Star line. Oh.
A line of cigars that uses pipe tobacco in the filler for the holidays. That cigar is now shipping in stores. Was it Peppermint Tobacco? Six and a half by 52 Toro, and like the first five Stillwell Star cigars, all of which has used an Ecuadorian Havana wrapper over a Mexican-San-Adres Negro binder.
It released to use an Ecuadorian Connecticut seed wrapper. The other difference lies in the The Filler, a mixture of Cavendish, Burley, Golden, Virginia, and Red, Virginia from Cornell & Deal. 95 per cigar. There's a long quote from Mr.
Saka. It's the holiday season. Silver Starline is rolled in Fabrica de Tobacco, Hoya de Nicaragua, I say. It was offered in four regular production.
He'd send it around a different pipe, tobacco, and a filler. That's good. All right, now this is a story that only Coop covered. Oh.
This is it. One please. Thank you. Fuente Padrón Legends begin shipping.
No. No. Fuente Padrón Legends, a collaborative between Carlito and, oh, George, it says Jorge, Padrón, that pays homage to their fathers, is now shipping. According to Carlito, two containers, each containing 375 boxes, have begun shipping.
Wow. They shipped on Thanksgiving Day, as promised, a very significant date to pay gratitude and tribute to the two legendary men in our industry, said Carlito Fuente in a statement to Cigar Coop, confirming the shipping. Giving Coupa's props here, it's his story. At the time, specifics on who will receive or what price will be set are still not being disclosed.
We don't know who's getting in, we don't know how much it costs. But it's coming. But it's coming. There it comes.
To say who's handling distro. Carlito Fuente did confirm in Cigar Coupa that more shippings of Fuente Padrón legends will follow, but did not elaborate on the time frame when you don't know why they're coming. See, the cigar was first announced in 2020, the cigar was unveiled at the 2022 trade show. Project Principal Blended Cigar in honor, but the cigars come to collectible 40 count box.
I'm trying to get to the end to see who says I'm disclosed about cigars. Are we getting that? Nope, doesn't say. Padrón, Fuente.
It's a cool box. Legend box. Just a box. Two, please.
My question is, how are you going to ship it, because it's an oblong box. Oblong? They don't get the box. Dude, if you're selling that box, the check is going to be big enough.
And you just say, hey, look, here's what it costs to ship it. And I guarantee you the customer on the other end is going to say, I don't give a fuck, send it. 220 bucks. They won't care.
Per cigar? No, for... They won't care. I'm sure the cigars are expensive.
The consumer that's buying that box does not fucking care. Does not care. It's pretty cool, though. They just want it.
I didn't even go over to look at it. The crowd was always too big. It's a nice presentation. Yeah.
Good. It only took three years for it to get here. Right. Whoa.
What the fuck was the holdup? They say they're shipping it. We're waiting. I went right to the source.
What'd he say? He hasn't responded yet. He's probably contemplating a response. How do I answer this?
Am I supposed to tell him? Shit. Wait, hold on. Let me check.
Can I get him a couple boxes? Does he know? Do we know it's coming? How's this?
He's on the phone now calling Mike McKinney. How the fuck does he know? He knows what the second question's coming is. Mike McKinney, why is he asking me this?
How does he know? We got a Florida story. Oh. Oh.
You can jump the camera around. Yeah. I gotta pee! " Video shows.
There's a video. A woman riding on Frontier Airlines flight flashed her fellow passengers on Monday after pulling her pants down mid-flight, according to a video shared by News 6. The woman, who has not been publicly identified, was reportedly one of several passengers headed to Philadelphia from Florida. Footage shared with News 6 by passenger Julie Hartman shows the woman saying, sorry everybody before pulling down her pants and squatting in the aisle the woman indicated that she intended to relieve herself in the aisle reportedly being told she couldn't use the bathroom by a flight attendant however she was seen pulling her pants back up before yelling i don't give a expletive no expletive you i gotta go pee she eventually walked away and confronted a flight attendant meanwhile another passengers on the flight can be heard saying that poor little boy likely referring to the young boy in the seat next to her the woman dropped her In another video, the woman was seen confronting several of the other passengers aboard the flight with screaming and cursing.
Matthew Hartman and I had a most awful experience flying home from Florida this afternoon. Julie Hartman wrote on her Facebook, "A passenger was upset that she was required to sit in her assigned seat and decided to pull her pants down on the plane right in front of two children. " So, this is one of those incidences with the seatbelt sign, I'm sure. I'm sure, yes.
Seatbelt sign's on? Yes, you can't get up. You can't get up. Oh, I can't do it, I gotta pay!
But that's not a lie, is it? The seatbelt sign's on? The seatbelt sign's on. But I really have to go, I'm sorry, man.
This doesn't happen on Delta. Oh, I'm sorry. It doesn't happen on Delta? No.
Well, they don't turn the seatbelt sign on unless it's, like, necessary. Oh, she threatened to kill another passenger. I'm sure she threatened me after I told her to sit down. I hope she was arrested and banned from flying over again.
Oh, if she said, I'm going to kill somebody, she's gone. Yeah, they were. How do we not know her name then? They're not releasing it because she's going to sue News 6.
I'm sure she's going to try to sue a lot of people. Probably. Specifically, Frontier Airlines, for not letting her pee. For not letting her pee.
It was unsafe. Are they answering or are you just texting other people now? Um, checking your Facebook, updating your Instagram. - Oh, doing his taxes.
- I'm actually doing his taxes and dealing with wholesalers. - Thanks. - Sir. - Very busy.
- I'm very busy. - Super busy. - Super busy. - Super busy.
- Okay, it was Shop of the Week, Michael. - Ah. - Smoke on the Water, Weston. - Where you will be releasing the SPC 2022?
- Yeah. - In two weeks. - In two weeks. - Not this week, in the weekend.
- Dos. - Yes. You have a Listener of the Week, Michael? Do I have a Listener of the Week?
Pause for about five minutes. Let me pause for about five minutes, let me think about this, carry the wand. I don't know, I don't know if I have a Listener of the Week. Sam Ash!
Sam at Fine Ash? Yeah, Sam at Fine Ash. He's a retailer. He could be a Listener of the Week.
You think he listens? I don't know. Try to lighten his blood, his blood is coming soon. Why not Alex from Kiss My Ass Radio?
Oh, Alex Trevella! There you go. I said your last name wrong. I'm sure I'm very sorry.
Alex Trevella, you're listener of the week. Thanks so much for always listening. Thank you so much for always listening and telling Abe what we're up to. Telling Abe what we're up to.
Well, everybody's got to keep their eye on the number one. We're number six now on Feedspot, by the way. Yeah, we're number six. Number six.
We're behind three shows that don't even exist anymore. Yeah. And one that does music. So if you cut all the shows out that don't exist or actually play music.
We're back at number one. We're back at number one. We're back, baby. We're back.
We are in the top 5% on listen notes of all global podcasts. I believe that. That's a great number. We're a big deal.
Well, they say if you have like 25 steady listeners a week, you're in the top 5. I mean, that's basically how it works. Really? Because there's so many choices out there.
There's very few that do those thousands of listeners every week. Oh. That's like the top 1%. Probably like a Joe Rogan or something.
