Episode 120 Murder Hornets, The Truth is Out There, We will see you on the Patio!

Episode Summary

Episode 120 of A Cigar Hustler's Podcast finds Mike and Mike riffing on quarantine life — above-ground pool assembly, home repairs, a 3 a.m. FaceTime from a drunk brother who'd lost his phone, and the perks of the show's growing Patreon (including a virtual herf and the Pooparoos prank aimed at Skip Martin's daughter). They also recap their Patreon-only virtual herf, which featured surprise guest Matt Booth of Room 101, who joined from his yard with his family and, true to form, opened with a poop joke.

The cigar news is the meat of the show. The hosts break down the Fourth Circuit's unanimous rejection of the cigar industry's (and the vaping industry's, and the FDA's) appeals over the substantial equivalency deadline — meaning the 2021 extension stays vacated and the deadline holds. They cover Room 101's limited return of the "Death Bucket," a 6x52 Toro with Ecuadorian Habano wrapper, Dominican binder and Nicaraguan filler made with Henderson Ventura at Tabacalera William Ventura in the Dominican Republic, priced at $10 and sold in dress bundles of 10 to a handful of brick-and-mortar and online retailers, following the 2018 "micro drop." They also update the Imperial Brands story (Imperial retaining its machine-made Backwoods business, which Mike confesses was his first cigar) and note overall U.S. cigar sales figures and market growth projections.

The bulk of the industry conversation centers on whether the 2020 PCA Convention & Trade Show can realistically happen at the Sands Expo Center. The hosts walk through the Venetian Clean safety plan — 800+ initiatives, thermal screening at every entrance, reduced seating, plastic barriers, four-rider gondolas, four-person elevators — and argue that a trade show built on handshakes, hugs and crowded booths simply can't work this year, especially after the "Four Horsemen" pulled out and RoMa Craft's Skip Martin indicated the brand is leaning toward skipping it. Their pitch: cancel, take the L, and virtual-herf the show deals instead.

The back half goes full off-topic: murder/"death" hornets found and destroyed in Washington state, the Pentagon's release of three Navy UAP videos and Commander David Fravor's account, Florida alligator mating season, an alligator found impaled with arrows in Fort Myers, and a pair of dog-vs-gator stories. Listeners of the Week are Jason and Rebecca Falkenberg, and the episode wraps with news of the new Cigar Hustler patio for outdoor smoking.

Hey, like that. Welcome to episode 120 of A Cigar Hustler Podcast. This week, the Death Hornets, the truth is out there, and we'll see you on the patio. I'll listen more on A Cigar Hustler Podcast, episode 120, coming up next.

welcome to episode 120 is it recording camera's on okay camera's on oh 120 120 of a cigar We are hustling, to made it, where did we make it to, 120? Mm-hmm. I was pressing for that line, and here we are. Made it.

Thank you for keeping it a secret. I can rest now. Oh, good. Now you're just gonna do nothing still.

What's the next task? 121. That's right. That's just next week.

Yeah. All right. Hey-o. So what have you been doing?

The pool. Why does it seem like there should be music? The pool. Oh, that's right.

That's right. We did more home improvements, but. Dude. So I got the pool.

I got the pool. Everybody knows you have a pool, Michael. Skip had the pool. Yeah.

Everything Skip has, you have to have. Yeah. Well, I don't have a Raptor gigantic home or, you know. I'm sure it's coming.

I'm sure it's coming. Probably not. Or a man that lives behind you that does all your assembly work for you. Did you start off miserable today or what?

So, oh, so I built a pool. I did try and. Okay. You assembled.

You assembled the pool? I assembled the pool. I assembled the pool. You didn't build one from scratch.

It makes it sound like you dug a hole, filled it with concrete. So I assembled the pool. But when you start to, you know, break down the pool... It's a big tarp with a...

Wait, you didn't leave it up? No, no. When you start to build it. There's a lot there.

There's a lot of poles and shit. It's PVC. No, it's not. It's not.

I'm like, wow. It's not PVC? Aluminum? Yeah, they're metal.

Okay, still. See, so don't act like you... It's still, though. But still, though, I mean, you put A into slot B and then connect it to C and make a square with a couple of legs and then drop the tarp in it.

Did nobody put their thumb in your ass last night? Is that why you're miserable? No, I'm not miserable at all. Um, so look, you start taking this stuff apart and like the instructions are kind of vague and, you know...

Is there a photo? You don't read the instructions, you're a man! You don't read those, you just look at the photo! There are several photos.

You go, look, okay, it's a square, there's T's and corners. There's different breakdowns for different sized pools, apparently. So, all of this is being said, just to simply state that I tried to FaceTime Sean to get-- Oh, he did say that he missed the call. Yeah, for some consultation.

Yes. But he did not answer, so-- Very busy man. I had to figure it out. Fiorella probably got some new toys he was putting together or something.

So, I figured it out. The kids love the pool. Congratulations, Mike. The pool is amazing.

It's amazing. Does it have a filter, or is it just like a big thing? Yeah, no, I bought a filter. Oh.

Does it come with? That's extra? Yeah, it's extra. It's like 40 bucks or something.

Yeah, I'm just curious if that came with or not. I think it cost me like 500 bucks. Out the door. Wow.

So how long? 10 foot. Four feet deep? No, it's like two foot, two and a half.

Oh, really? Only two feet deep? Yeah, it's like two feet. Oh, wow.

The kids can stand in it comfortably. Wow. They love it. Well, two of the three.

Yeah, the little one can. We gave it an attempt, the water was still a little cold, so she wasn't happy, she didn't like that, but man, so we had it built, we built it Saturday, the kids were in there, we had it built later on in the day, so they were in there for like two or three hours, like, son of a bitch, I mean, they were in there a long time, and then Sunday, we had nieces and nephews come over, and they were in it for like, I think five hours or something, just going, just playing around, so when it was time for the Heads to hit the pillow. They were done. Everybody was out, huh?

They were cooked. So, yeah, the pool is working out well. Yeah. Working out well.

Very, very excited about it. How did Drew like the pool? He loved the pool. He's got a bigger one in his house.

I'm just curious. Yeah. So, Drew hasn't seen the pool. I know you're angry about Drew.

No, not angry. Yeah. Not angry at all. Bitter.

Bitter, party of one. No, not angry at all. Nope. So, um, we sent, uh, to give you a little, little sliver into the Patreon.

We should talk about the Patreon cause it's, it's doing quite well. Yes, it is, it is doing very well. They get a lot of perks and extras. We did the, uh, we...

Oh, we gotta do the one thing for the new guy. We had the, uh... I'll do that today. Yeah.

Well, he's actually, he, uh... Came over and used a bull? No. Oh.

Um, he recently placed an order, so... Oh, we just slide it in there. Yeah. Perfect.

Um, so we had a, uh... Shit, we had a Patreon where Skip wanted to call in and we spoke with Skip and it was pretty good. It was good, yeah. It's a good Patreon and part of it he was talking about how Fiorella treats him like a catalog, thinks he's just a catalog, I want this, I want this.

Right. So, Skip drew a hard line. Daddy likes to buy me surprises. " So Skip drew a hard line on some kind of Pooparoos toy and a jump rope.

Pooparoos. So Uncle Mikey sent the Pooparoos and the jump rope. So I took great pleasure in that. I watched the video on what the Pooparoo does.

Yeah. I don't know how that would be fun. It poops out the toys. But it only magic poops once.

And then you need to get another one. Well, you need to get more pooper thing. And then you... And they're not like little prizes or candy, it's just little plastic smallets.

Food or toys. Yeah, food like Spam and coffee and little hamburgers. Look, I, who cares? Like, I didn't care what it was.

Like, I'm happy that Fiorella got in, she's happy, but I just really got it, so the Skip would be like, "Fuck! God damn it! " So that's what I was really hoping for. I hope that I, uh, I got that.

It seemed in the message last night that he said that he was quite excited about the pooparoos. The pooparoos. Yeah. Pooparoos.

Pooparoos. Pooparoos. That went pretty well. I was really happy.

I'm really happy about the pool, really happy about the pooparoos. Oh. Um. Last week.

Yes. I got a phone call. Oh, yeah, the story. Okay.

You're looking at me like it was some kind of secret. So, um, here's one thing that a lot of people, a lot of people might know about me. Maybe not everybody knows, but now you're going to know, if my phone rings in the middle of the night, I'm answering it, if I get a text, I'm probably going to respond, and then if I'm bored, I might even respond to an email, I don't know why, I've always just kind of been like a, like I sleep in small intervals and I'm up, right, so I don't know, I'm always afraid that the ninjas are coming or something like that, I don't know, like somebody's going to come and attack me. Somebody's going to attack.

I don't know, like I'm always, I'm always on alert. I think we've discussed the night terror several times on the show. Yeah, several times on the show. Yeah, for whatever reason.

Over the last couple of years. That's just who I am. So, it was a little past three o'clock in the morning, and a friend of my brother's is FaceTiming me. He's also a mutual friend of mine, but he would never call me past three in the morning.

I don't think he would call you normally past like 10. Yeah. Very considerate man. So I would have, I assumed, so I instantly jumped, jumped up, grabbed the phone, because I didn't want to wake anybody else up, I answer the phone, and I'm thinking, my brother's dead, right?

Right, yeah, he hangs up with your brother all the time. There's no way that this guy's calling me. Right, this has to be bad news. He's got to be dead.

So the FaceTime rings, and I turn it on, and the face on the other side is my fucking brother. And he's completely shit-based. He's gotta be. I didn't know if that was gonna be at it.

So he's just kinda looking at me, and I'm like, "What's up, man? What's wrong? " At that point, did you think Steve was dead? " So I hung up the goddamn phone and went back to bed.

Okay, now you have to explain. It turns out that they were out and they were drinking and your brother had lost his phone. He did. So evidently one of the numbers on his phone under your brother's name, Greg.

Which I don't think that's correct. I think that he just saw the last name. I think he saw the last name, too. Yeah, there's no way that he would have it, you know.

And, I don't know, I just got a dojo alert. I have no idea why. I have no idea why. Dojo alert.

Dojo. So go dojo. So they were trying to call the phone to make it ring. I'm tired of both of you.

All right. That was Mike the Mailman from episode 12, I believe. We get no respect. We get no respect.

Just wanted to come in and tell us how much he hated it suddenly. So I had – I wanted to kill him the next day. I wanted to kill him. So that way I could get a FaceTime from somebody else.

You should FaceTime him one time in the middle of the night. Why? He'll be up. It was on a Sunday too, Sunday night.

No, not middle of the night, early morning. Ah, yes. 7:00 to 11:00 on a Sunday. From Brittany's phone.

Brittany's phone. Yeah. To make the kids know the phone, yes, you can just do it from the kids' phone. m.?

m. Sunday morning? m. But was it Sunday morning or Monday morning?

I mean, it was Monday morning. Oh, well, see, yeah, that's worse. I got, you can't, you can't defend that. No, there's a drinking problem or something, so.

Admitting you have a problem is the first step to recovery. So don't call me unless it's an emergency. Or, if you've lost your phone, just give him a ring. Yeah.

So, see if he has. Hey, you have my phone? " Mm-hmm. What are you doing with my phone?

Right. Oh, shit. I left my phone at your house. house uh i'll be right there you know what's funny is i have like uh so my mother for whatever reason god love her she has this tendency to she has all the shit from when we were kids right and then like when she comes up and makes trips she brings shit up right oh stuff and it's like yeah it's like stuff that nobody fucking wants right and it's just there so i have this old ass clown picture painting from when i was a kid sounds a little scary oh it's definitely creepy i never He never stayed in the room.

You know, we're older, obviously, but I had the clown pictures. Right, like, ooh, this is perfect. Yeah. Oh, but he's in the kitchen.

What were you thinking, parents? " So, normally, she brings stuff up to my brother and I, and we just take it to the curb. But I kept the clown thing to purposely break into Greg's house one day. Oh, in a hangout.

And put it in his house. So just a boop, clown picture. Have you done that yet? No, I haven't.

You haven't? But that would be good revenge. You have somebody who could help you now. Yes, I do.

I have ways. Yes. Is he gone? Is he out of the house?

Okay, boom. Alright, just deliver it and have it done for you. Ooh. They are doing practical jokes on each other now, as I understand it.

Oh, very nice. Because he's had a few items delivered here. Oh, that's next level stuff. Right.

That I'm not allowed to discuss, apparently, because I happened to be here when they arrived. Uh-huh. Ah! Not for you, but for him and his buddy to do back and forth on each other.

Yes, I understand. But you can't bring up what they are? No, 'cause he listens to the show, and I don't know if he has sprung that one on him yet. Ah.

So, you know. Okay. So we'll have to get confirmation of what they are, and then you'll have to bring them up later. Oh, okay.

Gotcha. Once they've occurred. Yes, yes, if they have occurred. Something in my eye all of a sudden.

The curse. So you've done more home repairs, you said? Yeah, yeah, we took the front door down and wife painted the front door. No, I just left it down.

For the day, 'cause it had to dry. Put some beads up. No, actually, we hung some furniture blankets. Perfect.

Over the doorway. Took the lights off the house, the outdoor lighting, and painted those to match the front door. You're going nuts, man. I don't know, she's just, well, you know, you can't paint the door.

Well, the door needed to be painted. We replaced the lock eight months ago, I guess, or whatever. You know, it doesn't fit exactly as the other one did, so there's Mark, so she just never painted it and all of a sudden it was time, apparently. And then here we are.

And then here we are, yes. But as we're putting up the door, because we just took it off, took the hinges and the whole door down, you know, just easily, boop. " I have the door in my hands. Right.

I'm like, "I don't know where the push door is, honey. " She just kind of shoves it on you. Well, she goes, I'll hold the door, so I go, mm-hmm, okay. So, all right, push it towards the frame, and it's all done.

Anyway, we have a retraction from last week's show. We gave out some misinformation. He's alive. Yes, Kim Jong-un appeared in public.

I told you he was alive! North Korean state media reported, Kim Jong-un has appeared in public for the first time in 20 days, as a North Korean state media says. KCNA News Agency reported that the North Korean leader cut the ribbon at an opening of a fertilizer factory. Mr.

Kim said he was satisfied with the factory's production system and praised it for contributing to the progress of the country's chemical industry and food production in the state. I'll never trust TMZ again. Never again. But the good news is we have our one listener back in North Korea.

Yay! And apparently he can watch porn just nobody else. Let's count it all. Premium package.

Yes. All right. Part of the agreement we made during the Patreon hearf was there was going to be no Corona news this week. Yes.

But there is one story. You still caved. No, no. Just one story.

Not the first story, but there is one story. It's pertinent to the industry, the cigar industry that we are media from. You couldn't help yourself. No.

Well, this one I feel we needed to discuss. But anyway. This just in, the Federal Appeals Court rejected the cigar industry appeal to move substantial equivalency Okay. This just happened today.

Ooh. This happened today. The substantial equivalency deadline will not be moved back to August 2021. S.

S. Food and Drug Administration in an appeal of a 2019 decision that threw out the August 2021 deadline for product approval for deemed products as cigars and e-cigarettes. In a rather short document, the court unanimously rejected the appeals of both the vaping industry and the cigar industry. It also indicated the FDA, appealing Grimm's decision, had requested that the appeal be dismissed.

Both others were rejected. The court's position towards the cigar industry is that it should have acted earlier in the Maryland case and that it was unfair to allow the cigar industry to appeal the case so late in the process. The court didn't actually rule on the merits of the claim. Rather, they found reasons to reject both parties' arguments on procedural grounds.

Aha. So the equivalency will stand as is, I believe it is September of this year. Yay. So the rent stays like a before.

The rent stays like a before. Do you need to handle something on your phone mic? I got this, I got it under control. I'm a multitasking machine.

You getting a high score? High score. High score. High score.

Snake to the left. Snake to the left. B-A-W-S. Alright, as a surprise to our Patreon members, we had a guest.

It was the best celebrity cigar person on our hearf. We did. We did. So, did we talk about the Patreon people on here?

And we didn't say we were going to do that. No, no, it was a surprise to everybody. No, but before that, we never said, hey, we're going to do a virtual hearf just for our Patreon people on this. No, no, we did not.

So you should probably clarify that before you go ahead and do that. Oh, you're right, you're very sorry, okay. As I'm multitasking. As you're multitasking.

Don't worry. Okay, you got it? Would you like to go ahead? You go ahead, Mike.

No, no, no. No, no, you go ahead. It's your day. No, no.

Have at it. You go ahead. We did a video, Herf, just for our Patreon members. We did.

There are 14 gentlemen. I believe we had 10 show up. We had one that didn't show up. He was very excited about showing up, but he didn't.

He was very excited he was going to show up. He was quite adamant to me the day before. How am I going to get this? How is this going to happen?

What time? What time? When will this happen? And then...

John, your yoga lead. Yoga light. You emailed him to the email he had provided, I personally texted him and it said red, so I mean, I thought he saw the message. Right, I believe we even sent a pigeon.

I think so, yes, yes, and I even called his wife and his daughter who just had a birthday. Not available. He was not available, they said, he just, very busy, very, very busy man. And he was out.

Apparently he had taken a nap on the couch. A little nappy poo. But at nine o'clock at night, is that a nap or are you just in bed? It depends upon, I mean, it was a Friday.

Right. The guy has a bar at his house. Oh. So I feel like he was just recharging.

He was just, you know-- Getting ready for round two. He was like, oh, let me, I need my third wind here. I'm just gonna power nap that. Mm-hmm.

Should we call him and humiliate him on the show? Uh, no, I feel like we need to, I feel like we really need to drag this out for a few episodes. Oh, perfect. So, you know, we'll bring it up, and then maybe we'll call him.

Oh. You know, the whole, let's, yeah. Anyway, where this is going, Mr. Matt Booth was our guest on the Hearth.

He was outside playing in the yard with his family. Yes. We got to interact with his family a little bit. Yes, he was.

Which doesn't happen everywhere, people. Yeah, it was pretty cool. It was pretty neat. I mean, you know...

He has been everywhere lately on every show. Yeah, but what's awesome is like... Blitz. It's like, hey, let's just put this to the test, right?

Let's just see if we can get one person on. " Right. I bet you I can get him on. And boom.

Now, apparently he would have been on sooner, but he confused you with a different mic. Yes. It's a totally different mic. So, he, uh...

So, it was very, you know, it was, that was pretty awesome. Now, before he got on, we would talk, we had to say, you know, um, how long till he mentions anything about fecal matter. And, like, the first sentence that comes out of his mouth was something. Something, something.

We all start dying laughing. And he had no idea why. He's like, wow, my jokes are amazing. Meanwhile.

Anyway, the reason I brought that up is Room 101 Cigars brings back the Death Bucket Cigar. The Death Bucket. It's not the official name of the cigar, Matt Booth has stated, it isn't one, but the Room 101 Death Bucket is making a limited return. It's a cigar that dates back 2017 and Booth's brief hiatus from the cigar industry.

After a few months away from the cigar making, he began working with Henderson Ventura at Tablicolera. Did I say it right, that thing? Nope. Damn it!

Tabaculera. Tabaculera. William Ventura in the Dominican Republic. Blending cigars that would eventually lead to his return.

One of the first finished cigars he created was released as the micro drop, sent to a group of brick-and-mortar retailers in August 2018 as a thank you for their support. Room 101 over the years, while it didn't have a solidified name, They quickly picked up a nickname based on the imagery of the band, Death Bucket. Are we going to get some of these, do you think? Yeah, maybe.

I don't know. Booth produced about 7,500 of those cigars in this run. He has made another 10,000 cigars. What's the size?

Hold on. Five retailers across the country. A mix of brick-and-mortar, online retailers that show, Runa One Love, Booth said. The cigar is a 6x52 Toro that uses an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper, Dominican binder, and Nicaraguan filler.

The blend and band were made strictly in fun for passion's sake, Booth said. They are priced at $10 per cigar and offered in dress bundles of 10 cigars. Do they come with a bucket? Booth said, no, it has the potential for a box version in the future.

He also told Half Wheel that he is exploring the idea of doing another run of cigars in a larger quantity that would make them available for more retailers, as cigars are currently shipping to retailers. Bucket not included. Bucket not included. No.

The photo looks, well, I'm not familiar with the band Death Bucket, but it looks like a KFC chicken bucket. Oh. Funny. Yes, funny.

All right. Updating the Imperial story from last week that we have been following. The. The.

Hail Hydra. 3 billion. Yes, Hail Hydra. Hail Hydra.

Imperial will retain its machine-made cigar business whose most popular. We're going to keep this. Brand is Backwoods, which was the first cigar I ever smoked. Which only constitutes a small portion of its overall revenue, the firm- Really says a lot about you, Mike.

Thank you. Entered the premium cigar- It ain't been a cotton I do, I've been very a long time do. With the acquisition of Spain's Altidus, the market for premium cigars has been driven by well-off Chinese consumers- Was it one of the flavored ones? Was it like a- No, it was just whatever that main backwoods was.

Came in the foil pouch, eight or ten cigars. Looked like it was wrapped by Clint Eastwood. Was it called Death Bucket? No, it's called Backwoods.

Just standard. Just standard Backwoods. Standard garbage. It's a long time ago.

Back then, they didn't come in flavors. Back then. Back then. Let's see.

You got off your tractor. Here is our backwoods. We're at 22 minutes. It's kind of a long story.

22, 22. What's the next story? Oh, but we were talking about Imperial. So is this the fact that they kept the Backwoods?

They kept Backwoods. Which is a relief for you. 2 billion in the year of October 26, 2019. Oh, a downtick!

5 billion in 2024. Look, man, we're not supposed to talk about that, okay? The impact of that thing that doesn't exist for us in this world right now. Well, the next story is the one story about it, and then nothing else.

I can tell you this, I feel like more people are smoking right now at a higher level ever than before. They're figuring out where the patio exists on their house, how to light up, how to socially distance from their wife and children. Okay, you're talking all about it now. I'm not even talking about it.

I'm just talking about people smoking. I feel like more people are smoking now, right now in the simple fact of today that people are smoking more cigars. I just feel that way. I just feel that way.

Well, you know, speaking of patios, they can come here and do that on the new Hustler patio. Check out the Hustler Instagram page for a photo of the new Hustler patio. It's glamorous. It's very nice.

I mean, you know, at the end of the day, it's just some mulsions of tables. Fuck it. It's a patio. It's a patio now.

Yeah, it's got umbrellas. We've gone from the-- We got umbrellas! --Hustler porch to the Hustler patio. Mm-hmm.

For all your smoking outdoor pleasures. Mm-hmm. We want you to be happy outside. We want you to stare at the cars.

There goes one. Count them. Another one. Maybe we do a daily contest with like number of red cars.

That one's blue. Number of policemen that go by. Oh, now would be a good time for them to do the work on the road where all the fire trucks and everything. I totally just wanted to sit out there today, but that's not going to happen.

We'll probably do it tomorrow. I'm just going to sit out there. Bring my laptop. Oh, look at you.

A little work. Tomorrow I'm on. I run the shop on Tuesdays. Oh.

Well, then I'll come. I'll come back. No, you won't. You can show up late.

All right, we're at 20 minutes. And then we're going to get into this one story. You know, I will say this about the Patreon Virtual Herf. Okay, one last thing.

I did, I started to get a little drunk at the end of it. I'm glad we called it when we did because... You had one drink. After that, no, no.

You started out drinking coffee. Yeah. And then you went and made a drink. Yeah, so here's what happened.

Yes. My friend, Drew. Yes, yes, your very good friend, Drew, who was at your house. The house where you said, "Nobody can come over because we have children.

" Exactly. So, my very good friend Drew, he brought Casamigos. Oh. Anejo.

Oh. And I haven't had it in a while. Yeah? God damn, that shit's good.

And it went down really easy. I just fucking started. Well, there's no way you get drunk in the 45 minutes with the one drink. You must have got drunk after.

I didn't have just one with you. I'm telling you, there was more than one. Was Brittany bringing you drinks? Because you only got up the one time.

No, I grabbed the bottle. I put it right next to us. I was like, "Fuck that. I don't want to get up again during the virtual, Herf.

" And then afterwards, then we started tearing into the other stuff because we sucked down that whole bottle. Big bottle? No. A little.

Standard sized bottle. There's only two of us. Okay. Yeah, it's just a very romantic evening.

Oh, we loved it. And the new enclosed patio. Oh, yeah. Enclosed.

Oh, yeah. It does. I saw that. It does.

They're nice. I bet. Yeah, sounds very nice. A little more privacy.

Oh, there you go. More privacy. Got a pool. I mean, life is good.

Life is good. The whole country is going to hell, but Michael's house, pool, enclosed patio. The whole world is not going to hell. Come on.

Let's be positive. Be positive. Alright. Be positive.

Okay, can we take a break now? Can we? We're gonna have to now. Should we?

We're gonna have to. I like to get to a point where we have to break. Okay, well, if we don't break now, the camera's gonna go off. Because if we don't, then I feel like we're just having a...

Okay, we're back! Mission accomplished. Mission accomplished. Boom.

Okay, here is the one story. The Venetian Sands Expo Center, the home of the cigar industry's most important trade show, has publicly unveiled some of the safety measures that were put in place whenever the hotel and casino reopens. These plans are notable because the Premium Cigar Association is scheduled to host its annual PCA convention and trade show on July 10th through 14th at the Sands Expo Center in the attached hotels and casinos, the Venetian and the Palazzo. So they have to set...

Do they have to yell? Really? Are you going to make the phone call? I'll text them.

Okay. Scott Pierce, Executive Director of PCA, told Half Wheel on Tuesday that the trade show is still scheduled to happen and that the organization was in talks, in parentheses, with the Sands regularly through and are working on better solutions. The new policy called the Venetian Clean was announced publicly Tuesday. Las Vegas Sands Corporation, the owner of the hotel complex, said there are over 800 individual initiatives.

initiatives the company is enacting in response to the coronavirus COVID-19, a plan that is required for reopening every casino in Nevada by the state gaming control board. Some of the changes are obvious. There will be personal protective equipment issued to workers and guests. Look, man, here's the deal.

You don't know what else they're doing? Go ahead. You want to keep going? Social distancing requirements will be enacted, which will lead to restaurants removing seating.

The check-in desk and others will receive plastic bears and even the casino's iconic gondola rides will undergo changes. Plastic in the gondola rides. No more than four riders per gondola and songs will be performed by people along the canal instead of in the boats themselves. So now as you flow along, people on the bridge is singing.

Wow, that's amazing. Oh, so I love you! Yelling down at you? The most notable change is there will be thermal screening at every entry point.

4 will be subject to a secondary screening. That's the anal cavity search, I'm thinking. I'm very excited about that. You're going to be out there just running in place to get your temperature up before you go in?

Look, look, look, here's the deal. Are you still going? I'll wait. I'll wait.

Okay. For events like the 2020 PCA convention and trade show, those thermal scanners will also be placed in interest to the trade show floor. The Sands will reduce seating capacity throughout the convention hall to help establish social distancing. All contractors also have to be scanned and there will be inspections.

One of the more drastic changes is that the hotel will recommend no more than four people per elevator. Oh, you gotta wait on fucking elevators like it is. Fuck outta here. Fuck.

As of now, the Venetian remains closed and is still not taking reservations. The company has stated that it will pay its employees through May 17th, but it's only got a couple more weeks. Announce any plans beyond that, including when it might reopen. Neither the state nor county have announced a date which is easier to stringent to the mayor.

The clock is ticking, May 17th. That is the one story. So, in our Patreon conversation with Skip, he said that Bromacraft is not going. Yeah, I mean, first of all, that's not confirmed yet, like, that's not 100%, but as of right now, they're leaning towards not going.

Right. You can't say that he's definitely confirmed not going, but. Well, I said he said he wasn't going. In a statement over the weekend, Danny also said as of this time, no, Roma Craft will not be attending the PCA.

Right, so as of this time, it's a little bit clearer than saying, ah, Skip's his not going. Because what if he changes his mind? So like, I would just say that he's leaning towards not going. Okay, he's leaning towards not going.

Protect yourself, cover your own ass. We don't fact check here. Allegedly he is not going. Allegedly.

Now they have to drink. We understand there's drinking games associated with the show. So, so listen, here's the deal with the PCA, okay? Yes.

You fuckin' got punched in the face with the whole evil Four Horsemen backing out, right? Correct. You know, the argument of, I don't know. The Four Horsemen paints a nice picture.

Yeah, it sounds nice. Yes. And they wanted, they wanna, they wanna be somebody on the board now or something like that. Yeah, they want representation on the board is what they're saying.

Your retailers were down last year, I mean, you know, it was just, it was a shit show. You got punched in the face. Correct. Parlay that into this situation and you get another punch in the face, right?

Right. Because even if, first of all, you have to be social in, because that's what cigars are. Right, exactly. So, you know, you got to like hug and shake hands and bullshit and, you know, there's more than four of us hanging out, you know, like all those things.

Kids on the cheeks. So, so there's that aspect of things that makes it even worse on top of the fact that, look, man, some retailers, dang. I'm not fuckin' thinkin' about fuckin'... No, I mean, the way things have been, a lot of people...

Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, no, we're gonna be... Oh, yeah, I'm goin' to Vegas! We're gonna be in Vegas in a month, yeah, no problem, yeah, we're shootin' fuckin'... So, on top of the fact that you've had factories shut down...

Right, yeah. that make cigars, that if they made cigars last month, they would be intended for the show. So, like, you have four things that are an absolute fuckin' catastrophe, just take the L, move the fuck on... But they need to just let it go.

Use this time to focus and make PCA great again. Make it great again. Make PCA great again. Let's have another name change.

Let's call it IPCPR. Moving forward. Just put it back. PCA has been canceled.

Now we're going to call it the IPCPR. And here we are. So, look. Let's just move on from it.

Let's just move on from it. " It doesn't make sense. No, because if they did it, it's going to be bad. What?

If they have the convention. Yeah. I mean, there'll be numerous industry people that are pulling out, we're not going to do the booth, you know, we just can't do it, blah, blah, blah. It doesn't make sense for them to do it.

No. It doesn't make sense for the retailers to show up. Right. The whole thing doesn't make sense this year.

No. So just… Just table it and put it off. Let's do a big Zoom. Let's virtual-herf the shit out of it.

We'll have everybody on. See, I suggested that a couple of weeks ago. We'll have the show deals. It'll be great.

Show deals. Everybody over-talking everybody. You'll have to raise your hand so they can unmute you. We can do like some kind of blackjack table virtually.

It'll be great. Perfect. Yeah. That's a nice thing.

Yeah. Normally, everybody kind of meets at one bar, which I think they eliminated, and now it's not there at the Venetian. Oh, really? Yeah, it's a different bar.

It's the one there on the corner? I mean, the circle bar was a couple of years ago. Yeah, that was the Venetian. That's still there.

Right, but last year, it was the other one. Yeah. On that corner. I don't remember what that was called.

Yeah, they moved it, and now it's a different bar, and it's smaller. It's closer to the elevators, so you don't have to stumble all the way back. back closer than last year's by the elevator because that one last year was like right outside the elevator thing oh no then all the non-cigar people were like oh it's mad that was when it was updated yeah oh that's the updated location oh well the other one was better it's in the middle of the casino i know i like that one yeah that was better more space okay moving on moving on the pentagon officially released three videos of unexplained errors no one cares and well i gotta We're going to talk about something. UFOs.

I know what we need to talk about. What do we need to talk about? We need to talk about the real problem that's going on in the world. What is that?

The war hornets. Oh, the death hornets. Death hornets. No.

Okay. Let's go ahead and get this out of the way then. They found one hive. Oh, okay.

In northern Washington State. Hey, that's where- Almost Canada. That's where the other thing started. Washington State?

Washington State. No, Washington State. Yeah. Remember the other thing started?

Uh-huh. It started in China. No, no. The first case was in Washington.

Well, they're coming in all the damn Canadians. Yeah. Playing in Canada. Anyway, they found one hive, and it was completely destroyed.

Mmm. So all the current ones that we had were dead. Who killed them? An entomologist.

He went in there? Yes. He took care of them. He was stung five times.

By the death hornets? Yes. And he didn't die? No, because he's been stung by several different things over the years.

He has a tolerance. It's still very, very painful, he said, but he didn't die. So he's a power, he's a super hero. He's a super!

So he's ant man. Bug man. Bug man. Bug man, not just ants.

Death hornet man. I don't know. But what these things do is, okay, they attack honeybees is why we don't like it. And they decapitate them.

They tear their heads off, carry the bodies back to their nest to feed their young. That is... And the things are about this big. That's some cold-blooded shit right there.

So like, you know, I got like this non-toxic, very... It won't work on them. It smells lovely. It won't work on the death hornets.

It's like a cinnamon. Actually, I read it's cinnamon attracts them. Oh, man. I better stop spraying that.

Stop spraying that stuff around. You know, I sprayed, it looked like, it looked, it could have been a death hornet. I sprayed a very, uh, large... Okay, hold on a second.

My phone rang. Okay, it still didn't stop the recording. We're not recording now. Great.

No, no, we are. It didn't stop. I don't know why we're on the phone. Yeah, so anyways, I sprayed a large waspy-looking animal yesterday, and it didn't want to die with the non-toxic healthiest thing.

Did it have a red face? I don't know. Didn't get that close? No, no, I sprayed it, and then it just kind of looked at me.

Gave you a finger, and then left? No, and then it just kind of walked around, and then I took the can, and I smashed it to pieces. Oh, see, that's what you have to do. So I still use the can.

Oh, the can still works. Which was important. I mean, that was the use for it. We're not going to talk about the UFOs?

No, let's talk about the UFOs, yeah. Oh, okay. S. Navy videos that showed what the Department of Defense called unexplained aerial phenomenon.

One video of the incident in November 2004, where the other two were recorded in January 2015, recorded in CBS News. Videos which were taken by Navy fighter pilots during training exercises were officially made public on Monday, but had previously been leaked between 2017 and '19. Defense Department spokeswoman Sue Goff told CBS Navy officials confirmed the existence of the tapes last fall while insisting the footage should never be made public. Goff said officials changed their minds after rechecking the videos and seeing how everyone was responding to the coronavirus, I added that last part, although a thorough review of the department- Hey, check this out.

Hey, hey, look over here, don't look over there anymore, look over here. " In 2017, retired Commander David Fravor told ABC News that what he saw in the sky back in 2004 seemed alien in origin. "I can tell you, I think it was not from this world," Faber said. I am not crazy, I haven't been drinking, it was after 18 years of flying, I must have been very tired, I've seen pretty much about everything that a man can see in this realm, and that was nothing even close.

I would like to have Mulder and Scully kind of break this down for us. Have them investigate it? That would be the way to go. Scully's still doing acting, but Mulder's got a lot of free time.

Let's just say… Or the other way around. The female has a lot of free time. I don't know who is who. I think Mulder was a guy.

I think you're right. Scully. Scully was a girl. Scully's got a lot of free time.

So, I mean, hypothetically speaking, let's say I owned a media source of some sort that… You would hire… …that actually covered this. I'm like, and here we go to agents Mulder and Scully. You would have to change their names. I imagine the copyright on those things.

Yeah. Oh, to FBI agents or some sort? Right. You guys are from the No Such Agency?

Yes, that's correct. I mean, you don't have to put their names up. NBI. Yeah, you could just...

Oh, yeah, they're very, very notable by their faces. Don't have to say their names. And could you tell us about the flying aircrafts? Well, we can't exactly explain...

Can't confirm nor deny their existence. I mean, just give us the news from them. We don't fact check, but allegedly... Listen.

These are flying saucers. At the end of the day, all I can tell you is, there's something out there. And then just, boom. I think that would be fantastic.

There's something out there. Say the call line from the show. Yeah. That would have been epic.

That would be epic. I mean, I think Fox owns X-Files. You can just put them on Fox. Alright, Fox News.

Fucking done. Oh, there you go. Alright. Moving on.

Look out and under your cars, Michael. Gator mating season is heating up in Florida. The Death Hornets? No.

Alligators. Oh. It's that time of year again, right before the hurricanes. Oh.

The Florida temperatures have become noticeably hotter and alligators are roaming around to find their mates. They're gonna have sex with my car? No, they have sex under your car. It's gator mating season and, according to the state wildlife officials, it typically begins in May or June with courtship beginning in early April.

So they started dating last month. Now they're starting to hook up onto your car. By late June or early July, female gators will lay between 32 to 46 eggs. Incubation periods for alligators require about 60 to 65 days and baby gators will be born in late August, early September.

So gators are allowed to interact with each other still? Doesn't matter where they come from? They can just... That's right.

No social distancing's on the other end. Yeah, that's fine. On an average since 1948, Florida has an average of five unprovoked bites per year, more than 300 unprovoked bites to people. There's just too many of them.

Well, there is a gator hunting season now. We really need to thin the herd. I mean, it's out of control. It's out of control.

They're everywhere. I'll tell you what, I remember, to get dark on you for a minute, there was like a week where the shit really hit the fan in Florida. Yes. The poor little boy died in Disney.

Oh, yes. From the gator thing. Oh, fucking brutal. It's a god, man.

Terrible. And then it turned into, like, Pulse Nightclub was two nights later. I'm like, holy shit. Oh, was it all at the same time?

Yeah, I'm like, what? That was a bad summer. And then there was one other thing that happened that was, like, atrocious. It just escapes me at the time, right now.

But I'm like, where the fuck are we living? Are you sure? Because I think we talked about the original story on the show at one point. I'm telling you, man.

It was Sheriff Dennings, and I've just felt for this guy, you know, 'cause he's out there talking, going, doing these press releases with all these, like, just having to deal with one of those things is already horrific, and then just to kind of get it parlayed into all three in a week, I mean, at least, we should at least get rid of the Gators. All of them? All, yeah, we don't need them. All of them.

What, why, what do we need? Well, there has to be something that they control because they eat. I mean, somebody could argue that, I'm sure, but, you know, we would figure that out. I've always liked the theory that the world is a giant airplane, everything on it is a nut or bolt or screw or something, and as these things start to disappear, the animals or the plants or whatever, the plane starts to fall apart, so at some point, it gets to the point where the plane just crashes.

Look, all I'm saying is, we can land without a couple screws, man. Let's just get them out of here. But I feel the alligators control something else. Like what?

I don't know, there's gotta be something smaller than them that they feed on, that in their absence would grow. You research that and get back to me, and then I could tell you if we could do with a lot of those instead. All right, we'll do that for next week. You know, oh, they eat a lot of fish.

Well, let's just, you know. But then perhaps this next story is about you, Michael. Uh-oh. A Florida resident found an alligator impaled with two arrows in its side.

The photo is going to be right here. I have a photo. You're right there. Oh, you have a photo?

I have a photo. I'm going to put it right here. The photo will be right here. A crime stopper group in Florida is asking the public to help after someone discovered an injured alligator with two arrows impaled in its side.

The gator was found by a pond near a home in Fort Myers, Florida. What have you had over the weekend? Okay, so let me explain a couple things to you. First of all, it couldn't be me.

Because it was Fort Myers? No, because the alligator was left alive. Well, that says something about the alligator. He also had a rope around his neck.

He was resilient. He had a noose, too. Oh my God. You cannot kill these things.

So that's the problem. You can't kill them. It's like dinosaurs. That's right.

A resident called the Lee County Sheriff's Office, according to the Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers, In addition to having arrows on its side, the alligator also had a rope wrapped around its snout and feet. The crime stopper called the incident an illegal act of animal cruelty. Oh, yeah, because they didn't kill it. Alligator hunting is legal in some parts of the southeast, including in Florida.

However, a permit is required. Hunting can only be done during the statewide alligator hunting season, which according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission begins in August and ends on November 1st. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission helped remove the alligator from the pond. Well, he already had a rope.

I mean, he just had to pull at that point. Here you go. He's out. Maybe it's Indians.

So I could... The agency did not immediately respond... Cowboys and Indians? Well, yeah, there was cowboys, but the alligator was Indian.

Who wants to talk about cowboys and all the backwoods? The agency did not immediately respond to CNN's request for comment, or ours, either. So, yeah. So, I got two good stories for gators.

Do they involve arrows? No. And ropes around their hands and snout? No.

I can tell you two quick stories without going too far into detail about people. All right, we're 45 minutes and I have two more stories. Are they pertinent? Are they good stories?

Actually, I have one more story. They feel good. They feel good to me. I have one more story, then I have a pair of listeners of them.

Okay. Okay, so let's talk about the gators. Okay, good. Tell the gator story.

You have five minutes. So Florida has a bunch of small lakes, right? You know, usually... Yes, they say in Florida, you should always assume every body of freshwater has an alligator.

So, I've definitely swam in lakes like an idiot, but I probably won't do that ever again, but, in Florida, but I've heard a story about a man whose dog was eaten by a gator. I saw a video last week of a dog getting eaten by a gator. And, don't make it about you, I'm trying to sound smart here. Okay, sorry.

And, so, this guy was very upset about the fact that the gator had taken his dog. Yes. So then he went out and killed every gator that he could find in the lake. In this one particular lake?

Yes. Okay, sounds reasonable. The other story is... That's where the story ends?

Yeah. Not a very good story. Not a good story, you didn't like that one? Didn't like that one.

Okay, so here's another story. Could he skin them all and wear them as clothes? Can you embellish the story somewhat? No.

I don't want to do that. I want to protect the integrity of the story. It's not a good story. I'm sorry.

Yeah, well, neither is your fuckin', uh- All my stories have been excellent and right on point. Okay. Please, move along. You're excellent.

Move along. So, the other story is, uh, I know, uh, I heard a story about a person on a horse trail with, with their dog, going down, you know, walking with their horse. Do you read a lot of dog news or something? No, no, no.

This is, this is, a friend of a friend. Hmm. Okay. All right, man's on a horse trail riding a dog.

Or, or a woman. He was riding a woman? No, a woman was on a horse trail with a dog. On a horse trail with a man or a woman.

Okay, a woman or a man's on a horse trail riding a dog. Big dog. Riding their horse with their dog. Oh, with the dog.

Oh, okay. Yes. What kind of horse was it? One with four legs.

Oh, excellent. Amazing. A white horse? I don't know.

I don't know, Mike. Was it a pale horse? Mike, you're getting to a point where I'm going to kick your fucking ass. So, they're going on the trail, and there's a body of water on this trail, and the dog The dog is close to the body of water.

Not the horse, the dog. No. " Boom! Out comes a fucking gator.

Oh. Dog gone. Right. So they killed every alligator in the pond.

So the person's distraught. Man or woman on the horse. Brings it up on Facebook, you know. Crying on the horse.

Can't believe this happened. Facebook Live? No, no. But, you know.

But on Facebook. A lot of people have a tendency to reflect their emotions on Facebook. Yes. Yes, okay.

So, you know, some people gave him or her shit about it, like, oh, you know, you should have known better, you know, what are you doing with it? Dog, you might as well just put a big sign, is it free meal on the dog? Two weeks later, the dog comes back home. Dragging a dead alligator?

With alligator in tow. No, alligator wasn't in tow, but the dog survived. Did he have bite marks on him or something? I don't know.

Probably. Big dog. It had to be a big dog. It had to be, I mean.

Like a big dog. You know what I'm saying? It was a chihuahua. I mean, I just.

That would be awesome. Dragging the alligator. Fucking. That's why it took two weeks.

You had to drag it all the way home. 15-foot alligator. Fucking. Little Pepe Le Pew.

Brings him home. Like, yeah. Is that a good story, Mike? What kind of dog?

I don't know. You need to have more information. What, Matt? Okay.

What does it matter? What does it matter? A dog survived an alligator attack. Okay, evidently the person on the horse did not stick around to see how this turned out.

I don't know. Because the video I saw, the dog's down by the edge of the pond, jumping around, alligator grabs it, dog wiggles away, alligator grabs it again, does a death roll, the dog and alligator disappear into the water. Okay, at that point, you can get on your happy horse and go, okay. I feel like something like that had occurred.

And you can ride it. I don't know. What kind of person records the death of their dog? Well, they were videotaping the dog playing by the water.

They weren't like, "Okay, look at an alligator over there. " They were playing with the dog by the water and recording the whole thing. "Oh, the dog's jumping around in the water. " If my dog were to be killed by an alligator...

Yes. and I got it on video... You would put it immediately on Facebook. You think?

It would be the intro to our show for the next six weeks. No, it would not. By the way, does Falcor get its own ice now? Uh, no.

That seems like a horrible idea. I would not want my dog tearing into my fridge. Yeah. It's up there.

Alright. Well, let's skip the story then and go right to the Listener of the Week. I want to hear the story. We're at 50 minutes.

Your story was a filler story. Nothing too exciting. Oh, I'm so sorry. Daredevil med Mike Hughes died in a crash in a homemade rocket.

Oh, that was a while ago. I just saw it in the news yesterday. Yeah, that's old. Videotape of the incident in which the rocket appeared to fall shortly after takeoff in the Mojave Derby outside of Barstow, California.

Yeah, it's old. Oh, it's old? Well, it's a good thing we're not talking about it. Excellent.

Alright, we have Listeners of the Week, Michael. Listeners. We have a pair. It is a couple.

Ooh. Big fans of the show, as I understand it. Big fans. Big fans.

Jason and Rebecca Falkenberg. Ah. Listeners of the Week. Very nice.

Yes. He is a big fan of the show. Ash Quarterly. Is White, yeah, the Ash Quarterly couple.

Apparently she comes in and every week goes, what in the world are you listening to? Very nice. So. I like it.

I told them I would make them listen every week. Boom. Done. So there we go.

There you go. It's episode 120. We only mentioned the thing we're not allowed to talk about one time. Other than that, we have a lot of alligators and dogs.

Toys. And some dog that ate an alligator. PCA. We covered some ground.

A lot of stuff. Matt Booth. A lot of stuff. Matt Booth.

Patreon. He just did Hot Ticket this week too. Okay. If you do not know who Matt Booth is at this point, you're living in a cave.

He is everywhere. That guy is, he's just out there. He is everywhere. Marketing machine.

He is. Alright, well that's it then. Alright, well do the stuff you're supposed to do if we were talking about things that you're not supposed to be doing. Wash your hands.

Wash your hands. Social distance. Wear your mask out in public. You couldn't help yourself, you had to throw it in, you gotta throw it in, I don't know, by the way.

Alright guys, we're gonna wrap this up, uh, this has been episode, uh, 120. I'll see you on the patio. Yes, we have to quickly get outside to the patio. Living our best life.

On the Cigar Hustler Patio. On a, it, and this is a Cigar Hustler Patio. Episode 120 brought to you by the Cigar Hustler Patio. Dun-dun-dun.

Dun-dun-dun. It would have been awesome if we made the podcast pay for the patio. Well. Sponsored by.

Make the patio pay for the podcast. You said the other way around. You said the podcast pay for the patio. Yeah, that's what I wanted.

No, no. We want the patio to pay for the podcast. Yeah, but I want the podcast to pay for the patio. Well, then it's the Cigar Hustler podcast patio.

And I'm like, we could have regulated who sits there. That would have been awesome. We could set this up quite easily out there next week. No, it's a Mike and Mike production, and you're not allowed to sit in here.

This is our studio. Yeah, no, sorry. You know what we should put, we should put a fence around it. Yeah, well, you need these things called permits.

You need a permit for a little split rail fence? I feel like you do. Decorative. Maybe just the little white one that you just stick, it's only about this tall.

I don't think so. Picket? Like a little picket? Yeah.

Or like a garden with the X's? Yeah, there you go. It's a little white metal garden with the little loopies on the top. " No, no, it's just for the- It's two feet tall.

It's for our chickens. Wait, live animals? You have live animals in here? You know what?

I heard that rabbit feces is quite flammable. I heard that as well. So be careful. Stay away from the words.

I know that joke kept going the entire weekend. Did it really? Oh, yeah. At your house?

Oh, yeah. Oh, wow. I'm kind of glad nobody listens or watches the show at my house. My wife brought it up a few times.

It's pretty funny. She knows when her delivery is always spot-fucking-on. It's pretty funny. Good for you.

Yep. All right, that's it. We're going. Bye.
