Episode 126 No love for the Hustlers....Gregg, sit there and don't talk! Secret Segment on youtube!

Episode Summary
Episode 126 of A Cigar Hustler's Podcast opens with the hosts (Mike Szczepankiewicz and producer Mike Too) heckling business partner Gregg, who sits silently in the studio as "the audience" for the entire hour. The first fifteen minutes are pure Hustlers banter — a long-running feud with a socially inept next-door neighbor who complained about TV volume at 10:18 on a Friday night, and the fallout from the mystery package sent to Danny Vee at Rojas, which was received with absolute silence.
The news block is heavy this week. Cigar Dave announced that after nearly 25 years, The Cigar Dave Show is ending its terrestrial radio run on June 27, 2020, and relaunching as an internet podcast out of Tampa on July 8 — prompting the guys to weigh in on the economics of radio versus podcasting. Oscar Valladares Tobacco & Company is releasing Superfly Connecticut, a $9 Corona (5.25 x 45) in 10-count boxes made at the company's Danlí, Honduras factory. Riste Ristevski's "Fuck the FDA" cigar from Jessum Krull ships nationally as a 6 x 52 Toro with a Mexican San Andrés wrapper at $9.99, limited to 499 bundles wrapped in pages of the 2016 deeming regulations. Also covered: Florida deactivating its I-10 COVID checkpoint, a $408 million Coast Guard drug seizure, the dissolution of the city of Weeki Wachee, and the cancellation of the Texas Cigar Festival and Smokin' in the Carolinas.
Industry news continues with the Traveling Roadshow — a joint retailer-only, appointment-based tour by Crowned Heads, Rocky Patel Premium Cigars, Oliva Cigar Co. and Alec Bradley hitting 15 cities from Naples, Florida (July 13) to Stamford, Connecticut (July 24) — which the hosts spend several minutes riffing on after misreading the overlapping schedule. Crowned Heads also detailed the Las Calaveras Edición Limitada 2020, a seventh release of four sizes plus a four-cigar sampler, made at My Father Cigars S.A. in Estelí with an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper, with production scaled down to 1,000 boxes per size.
The episode's running theme is "no love for the Hustlers" — nobody sends them samples. They call Wes Ferrell of Crowned Heads live on air to accuse him of giving the Hot Ticket Podcast a Las Calaveras pre-release; he denies it, and reveals the 2020 project sold out in roughly 30 hours after internal predictions of two months. Also discussed: Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust's STFU sampler of five unlabeled, variably sweet-tipped Sobremesa Brulee cigars, the upcoming Espinosa cornhole event, a Patreon review of the new Aladino Cameroon, and listener-of-the-week shout-outs to John Oliva of J.C. Newman and to Andrew McCreary's family. A bonus "secret segment" runs only on YouTube.

Welcome to episode 126 of the Cigar Hustlers podcast. I'm your producer Mike too. This week, no love for the hustlers. Greg, no talking.
And a secret segment at the end, only on YouTube. On the number one rated cigar podcast on Podbean, Episode 126 of a Cigar Hustlers Podcast. Alright, welcome to episode 126, Michael. Which is exciting for me.
Of a Cigar Hustlers Podcast. Cigar Hustlers. Still the number one rated cigar show on Podbean. Boo!
Going to ride that train all the way to the end. Yes. We have a member in the audience today. Oh, that's right.
Can we just acknowledge that right out of the room? Just in case you hear him yelling and screaming during the show. The lube of Cigar Hustlers. The lube.
I forgot we called him the lube. Is here, my brother Greg, and my partner. He's super busy, so he had to use the desk. He's very busy.
He needs to use the desk for the hour. Super busy. I think that he's in here just because he's caught a whim that we talk shit about him. Well, he's been listening to the show more regularly because he likes to call me with suggestions now.
Yeah, he's like, "Hey, you should do this. " Oh, okay, good. That's a great idea. Great idea.
I'll write that down. So now he's here, and I feel like he feels that if he's in the room, we won't talk as much shit about him. We'll talk more. Boy, was he wrong!
So, yeah. So, here we are. So, Mike, how are you? I'm fine.
Nothing exciting. We're working out of the yard now instead of in the house, but we did do a little bit of a... You know, it's funny. People come up to me, "Hey, Mike, how you doing?
" That's nice. Ronnie Hayesha just commented to me, he's like, "Dude, you know, I don't... " That's some next level shit. He said the last show, the best four minutes in podcast history was the end of the show.
I loved it. Now it'll be the first two minutes. Can you keep it down over there with your coffee mug, please? I can hear that.
The knocking, please. The knocking. The audience is supposed to be quiet at all times. Can we hold up the applause sign?
Yeah. Applause. I had a little fight with my neighbor. Oh!
How do you feel about— Wait, left or right neighbor? Because there's one you like, one you don't like. The left neighbor. Okay, that's the one you don't like.
Yeah. And I just—I feel like he's just socially inept. I don't feel like he means to be an asshole. He hasn't really said anything nice to me in the past six years.
Oh, nothing at all. Not really. Not really. And I just think that—yeah, I just think that he lacks the ability to actually carry a normal conversation with somebody.
So… What happened? So, we're patio people, Mike. I don't know if you know that about us. Yes.
But we're always on the patio. I've heard. So, it's Friday night, a little after 10 o'clock. Is that the birthday party day?
No. Oh, okay. This is just literally me and my wife. So, Friday night's just Drew and Kayla night.
No, they couldn't make it. Oh. Yeah, they weren't available. Super busy, Drew and Kayla.
Well, she had an article published about her little store. Did she? Oh, yes. Ooh, Gandy.
Gandy plug. Yes. com. Gandy Club.
And the Sanford Shopping Center next to Super Target. Yeah. So, okay, getting back to my story. Yes.
So it's a little past 10 o'clock. It's just Brittany and I hanging out. But now, usually every Friday night, I have somebody over. Correct.
It's not you except, you know. Drew. But it was you. Two weeks ago.
Okay. Yes. So it did happen. And now we have L10.
Yeah, that was the, well, the four-year anniversary of the last time I was there. Correct. Happy four-year anniversary. Thank you very much.
So, it's a little after 10, and we're watching TV, we actually started watching Bosch, you know, we figured you have quarantine time, it's six seasons, it's pretty good. I watched season one and two, and then Lost Interest. I think three took too long, now he's got gray hair, he's aged quite a bit. It happens.
He's got to embrace the wisdom, you know what I mean? Yes, right. That's with the gray. But now it's senior Bosch.
So we're watching Bosch. Watching Bosch, yes. " And I'm like, you know, I jump up kind of like, oh shit. Is it God?
God, is that you? And then I hear, hey Mike, are you over there? And I was like, uh, yeah. Brandy, Brandy be quiet, it's your neighbor.
His name is Mike as well. I was like, yeah, Mike, hey, what's up? And he's like, hey, could you, uh, can you turn it down a little? Wow.
How loud was the TV? I don't know. It wasn't that loud. Hmm.
But I've had the police arrive for the TV being on in the past, so now I know exactly who the culprit is. I don't know. So I was like, yeah. Police have come?
Somebody's complaining your TV is doing that? Oh, yeah. Yeah. " My wife and I are watching TV.
I'm like, "Are you serious right now? " Well, I don't think they're coming. " Yeah, they're not coming for that now. Fuck off, dude.
You'll figure it out. Just be respectful to your neighbor and tell them to turn on the TV. " Maybe that's what they told them this time. this time so maybe i'm like yeah sure man i'll turn it down um sorry you know like i just try and be courteous and uh britney turn it up turn it so so then he then he goes and he makes a comment of yeah you can hear it from the next street over he used the street name and now behind you that way behind you yeah well now i'm just looking at britney like this motherfucker so i'm just silent and i'm and i'm starting to boil and then he says have you ever considered getting He's having speakers that maybe aim in.
There's no speakers on you. Yeah, it's just a regular TV. It's just a regular TV. I don't have a sound bar.
There's nothing. There's no sound system out there. Like, if anything, the TV bar. For my vague recollection.
Like, you could crank it up all the way, and you still probably couldn't hear it. You know what I mean? Right. " Did you say that to him?
Oh, yeah. " It's like, what? He's seen you outside with the workout. So he's like, oh, don't piss him off.
You know what? Here's the deal. It's like, I feel like, that's my line, right? Here's the deal.
Here's the deal. So, here's the deal. I feel like I've always been, I always try and be courteous. Was it really late or anything?
It was 10 o'clock. So it's not even late. 10:18, we looked at the time. Oh.
So, does your wife have to announce you like here when you come in? No. No, she doesn't. But I'll work on that.
Do you want to start calling me when you arrive home and I'll announce you at home too? If you could do that, that'd be great. Perfect. Not a problem at all.
So, man, you made me lose my train of thought. Sorry, 10-18? He was 10-18. " So, there was one time, I think it was for, like, Jax's four-year birthday party, we had a couple kids over, and somebody threw rocks over the fence.
Right? Oh. So he came knocking on my door, like angry with the rocks. Oh, showed you the rocks.
" You know, my dogs got out once, and you could tell that he was pissed off about that. " They don't run loose, I mean, they're not that type of dog. Just kind of an anomaly that they made it out. I'm like, sorry, you know, one day for the hurricanes, I'm putting up the wood around the windows because I don't know, man, I just feel better about doing it.
I want my kids to be safe. Like, I care about my family, you know? Complained about the hammering? And he said, that's a waste of time.
Oh. And then meanwhile, the- Maybe it is just socially inept. So, right. So then a tree fell on his patio screen that for that hurricane, he lost everything.
He lost his entire- Was it your tree? No, no, it was his tree. Oh. Um, but like, so So it's, it has been ongoing for like six years and I've always just tried to be like, okay, man, you know, whatever, but to come and comment about the TV at 10 o'clock on a Friday night, I was like, yeah, no, nope.
Nope. You've, you've crossed the line now. I am officially done trying to fucking be nice to you. So don't even look at me.
Don't wave fucking high. And you know, now you're on the short list. It's, it's, it's, it's a Danny Vee, and then you, one, and then two. I see a whole new set of bad Twitter comments next time.
I'm not really mad at Danny. I'm over it. You're over that now? Is he still blocked?
I unblocked him on my phone. I haven't sent the friend request on Facebook. I don't think I'm going to do that. We'll just leave that alone.
So was there anything from the package? Oh, the package? Yes. I'm sorry.
Was that the end of the neighbor story? Yes, that was the end of the neighbor story. Your stories are so, they build up, they build up. I feel like I always disappoint you, Mike, I'm really sorry, you know, don't cross the line, Mike.
Can it be a fight? Next time fight the neighbor. I don't want to fight the guy. Fight the neighbor.
It's just a matter of time, he catches you on the wrong day when you get home, and he's like a computer programmer or some shit, he's been working at home, clearly gained the COVID-20, you know what I mean, like, oh, oh, he's fat too, you know, yeah, he's, I mean, it's just like, you could tell that he's, he's just bitter, you know, Is he old too? Is he a bitter fat old man? No, he's not an older guy. Does he have children?
No. So he's childless. Yeah. Does he have a wife?
Girlfriend. She must be a saint. So he can't find anybody to marry me then. A bitter fat, childless, lonely old man.
Listen, those are your words, not mine. I'm just saying, like, she's gotta be an angel of some sort. Like, you know, to... I mean, if he says that shit to me...
Right, just imagine what he says to her. Oh, imagine what comes across his mouth. Yeah, it's crazy. Wow.
But no. Is this how you clean the house? Is this how you clean the house? Exactly.
The food is cold. You did a real shit job on the toilet. That was the sex? You expect me to accept that as sex?
That was okay. Thanks. Thanks for that. All right.
High five. All right. Now leave. You really could use a sandwich.
The package. So the package went to Roma. You know, I took some time out of my day. Yes, we put up a photo.
We put up a photo right here last time. I had to send it to Art so he could get it. " Oh, Mr. Finch.
Yeah, Art Finch wanted it up close and personal, so I sent it to him so he could see it. I mean, there was devotion there. Yes, a lot of work. Zero acknowledge.
I had to pry. " Did you call Lightweight Heavy? I'm like, "No, I was talking to Rosales. " He's like, hmm.
Like, he gave me nothing. Childish. I mean, you know, yeah. Childish.
Immature. Like, I would have at least expected something like, you're such an asshole. Like, something. Put him a photo.
Yeah, you don't have to, I wasn't looking for, yeah, that'll teach him, 'cause he's, you know, they're all-- You really shouldn't have done that, or you went a little too far, you're an ass. Right, they're all on the same team, right? So, like, you support your boy, right? Right.
Like, you could have just countered at me like, you're so fucked up. You're so fucked up, man. Like, I would have loved that. Something.
You know? Well, you know what? That's why. Because they knew not – if they don't acknowledge it, that's what gets you the most.
Give him nothing. Give him nothing. Well, it successfully worked. I was affected.
You should send another one. Empty box. Empty box just written on it. With a brick in the middle.
Just poop in the box and send it. Maybe we send a glitter bomb. Well, but – That would – Like, Wade Heavy might open the box. You have to put on there, only open by...
Danny, please open. Danny, please open. My apology is inside the box. Danny, please open the box.
The problem with doing that is Skip would lose his fucking mind. Because Glitter would never get out of the office. Oh, that he's in Danny's house. I don't know where, I don't have his address.
I could probably get it, though. I'm about to say, wait a minute. It's not that hard. But no, I'm really not mad at him.
It's fine. It is what it is. I'm over it. I love Danny.
That didn't last too long. I love Danny even for all of his mistakes and his imperfections. Oh, nice. A backhanded comment.
Casually throwing shade. Oh. All right. Should we get started?
Well, that was 15 minutes. That's a good either time. Nice work. Last week came word that- I live an amazing life, Mike.
You do. So it's just really easy to talk. Very intriguing. We should just do one show and you just tell your- Just talking about my life.
Your stories that don't go anywhere. Yeah, really disappoint you. Really disappoint the story. I mean, I don't know how you wanted that story to end.
So I killed my neighbor. No, no, don't kill him. That's a little extreme. But a fight would have been nice.
So I got up, drug him over the fence, and pummeled him. That would have been great. What am I, a fucking savage? Come on.
You know, maybe. My workout was cut short that day. He said the wrong thing. So now they're looking for him.
You know, what's funny is I actually – I don't know if I ate some bad food or something, but, like, man, I was having super bad stomach pains at that time. So I'm stretched out. I'm laying out on the sofa on the patio. I'm like, oh, God, oh, God.
Then I hear, hey, Mike. I'm like, yeah, Mike. Did you think it was your stomach? What is this?
What's up? What's going on down there? It's talking to me now. The alien is about to pop out.
Oh, God. I'm like, no. Yeah. Okay, you done now?
I feel like I'm just getting warmed up, but yeah, I'm ready to move on for you. a. Cigar Dave, would be bringing a Saturday afternoon show, The Cigar Dave Show, to a close on June 27, 2020. For nearly 25 years, Cigar Dave delivered cigar-related content, which is good because it was called Cigar Dave.
Is that the General? To the terrestrial airwaves. The General? The guy, the little cartoon guy from the commercials?
I think it's the same guy. No, okay, Cigar Dave. Cigar Dave. You know who Cigar Dave is?
Yeah. Sorry, I didn't get you to go. Well, the show is coming to a close. It is not the end of the Cigar Dave show, as he announced he would be moving to an internet podcast format.
I heard that those are very successful. Cigar Dave show. I have Cigar, oh, it's going to be, oh, now it's a show on July 8th out of Tampa, Florida. So he's not quitting.
He's just moving to podcasting the week after Joe Rogan got the $10 million. I hear that podcasts are lucrative. I mean, I haven't seen it in two years of work, but- No, we still have yet to see the lucrative part of the industry. But we're hanging in there.
Yes. He's going to name his show Smoke This. It would grow to a nationally syndicate- Oh, we should syndicate. I mean, that's what we do.
Syndicate a program called, what? It would grow to a nationally syndicated program show called The Cigar Dave Show in at least once a week since the day the terrestrial, that's all about terrestrial, pioneer for many of broadcasts, as rewarding as terrestrial radio could be it is quite expensive, he says, improvements done to equipment and streaming platforms that allowed internet broadcasts to become more competitive and be done at a lesser cost. While I still think it's hard to ever replace a radio studio, the greater return on investment would be an agile internet broadcast, also difficult to compete with. Cigar Dave was the dynasty.
Whether you like him or not, you have to respect the run he had. Nobody has done more show related to cigars than Cigar Dave. Nearly a quarter of a century worth of content. Some will say that Cigar Dave lost touch with the industry and with the media.
I could not disagree more with that statement. There's some podcast formats that do put up the radio show. Oh, that's nice. Kind of weird, because on the ratings, he does come up on the ratings, on our podcasting.
So, anyway, moving on. So he lost touch and he's trying to reestablish the touch. Right. Now he's cool.
He's got a podcast. No more radio. Radio's for old people. I'm hip.
I'm hip. I'm cool. I'm cool now. And the FCC does not control podcasting.
You ever see Austin Powers? Yes. He probably just wants to be able to swear. He does the Macarena because it's cool.
Oscar Valadari, Superfly Connecticut, Michael, is going to be released. Superfly. Superfly Connecticut. During the 2019 IPCPR Convention and Trade Show, Oscar Valladares Tobacco & Company introduced what the company is calling its strongest line to date, named Superfly.
The '70s theme release debuted in three different vitolas and was made up of a Mexican San Andreas wrapper covered in binder from Honduras and filler tobacco source for the Dominican Republic, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Fast forward to January this year when the company announced a brand new variant that would be shown off at a different cigar show, Seriously, Tobacco Plus Expo 2020. Did you see that when you were there? No.
The Superfly Connecticut? I don't think so. Oh. I was busy working.
Whatever. As the original, then how did you get a picture with... Tommy Chung? Yeah, thank you.
How do you not? I thought you were busy working. I was busy working. I'm like, buy these cigars.
Oh, my God, Tommy Chung. Oh, I'm not working anymore. Hold my calls. You know what?
Tommy Chung would have liked the Superfly Connecticut cigar. Maybe. I don't think so. Does it have weed in it?
No. Allegedly, no. So then Tommy Chong would not like it because he likes a lot of weed. 25x45 Corona.
Each cigar is priced at $9. It comes packaged in a 10-gallon box. As with all the cigars that he has released so far, the Superfly Connecticut is produced at the Oscar Validari's Tobacco Company factory located in Donnelly, Honduras. Very exciting.
And the boxes began shipping to retailers in February. One size fits all. Yes. Corona.
Connecticut, Corona. All right, some good news, Michael. Florida deactivates. Where'd you get that?
Where'd you get that article from? Is that Half Wheel? Yes, I believe it was Half Wheel. Courtesy of Half Wheel.
Courtesy of Half Wheel. All our stories are courtesy of Half Wheel, courtesy of Cigar Fission Audio, courtesy of Cigar Coop. Ah. Because we're not media, so I steal other people's stories.
I love it. It just makes sense. We don't do the work. No, I do the work.
the non-benefits because we're still not financially. We just listen to yours and then we make opinions. Yes. We're not going to care to comment?
Like, that's not us. No. Yeah. This is off the wire, though.
This is like real news. This just in. Okay. Florida deactivates COVID-19 checkpoint in I-10.
Louisiana travelers no longer need to self-quarantine to come into Florida. That's it. It's over. Louisiana travelers can once again visit Florida without having to self-quarantine for 14 days.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, our boy, our boy Ron, issued an executive order, I like that guy, which brings the state into phase two of the recovery plan, which activates the COVID-19 checkpoint at I-10 at the Florida-Alabama state line, according to Florida Department of Trade of State spokesman, Beth Freidy. Motorists are encouraged to drive cautiously and safely while crews are working to deactivate the checkpoint, says Freidy, in an FDOT immediate release. I heard we're on an uptick though, Mike. Yes, I heard the last three days have been quite, quite dead.
Tampa. I'm considering wearing a mask again when I go grocery shopping. Tampa's a hot spot. Oh, is it Tampa going up too?
Oh yeah. Miami. I would not go to Miami if you paid me right now. Terrence Riley was up here though.
He's from Miami. West Palm. Anyone? Oh no, he's Miami.
Groover's West Palm. Yeah. I shook his hand. I might've hugged him.
I'm not sure. We're all gonna die. We're all gonna die. So I should stop licking the cigars before I sell them?
Is that what you're saying? Yes. Right now? With the new labeling program we have put into effect.
I'm very excited. You can still lick them all you want. You can lick the cigars and put them back. It's amazing.
Over 400 million. That's right. He didn't complain about that. I just want you to know, that was an entirely joking statement.
Yes. Nobody licks cigars. If you touch a cigar, I'm going to make you buy it. Moving forward.
You touched it. That's it. It's yours. He's just, oh, they're stroking his beard.
Yeah. Like an evil genius. If you decide not to buy the cigar and you've touched it here, there's going to be a de-sanitation fee. A de-sanitation?
A de-sanitation re-sanitation. It's a double sanitation. It's a double sanitation break. We're gonna start doing like the guy with the appliance commercial.
Sanitize, sanitize, sanitize. It's like seven times. That's a wacky noo noo. That guy?
Yeah. That's what you're talking about? Appliance Direct. Okay, we got time for one more story, then we have to take a break.
Oh my god, already? Already, we're at 22 minutes. S. Coast Guard.
Greg's over there looking intently at his computer. He's shopping for a new car again. Super busy. S.
Coast Guard on Tuesday showed off about 30,000 pounds of illegal drugs that were confiscated at sea. They said the cocaine and marijuana seas are all worth more than estimated $408 million. Isn't that lovely? The drugs were...
Why do you send the drugs together? They split them all up? I don't know if there's one big shipment. Hey listen, the weed and the cocaine just goes together.
Like, it's the same guy? I mean, you figure that the weed guy would be the weed guy. Well, maybe they're consolidating. And then, like, the Colombian Bam Bam guy would be totally different.
It's COVID-19. They're trying to consolidate orders for shipping. And then, like, I feel like the cocaine guy should be judgmental of the weed guy. Like, I'm not putting my stuff with you.
Oh, yeah. I'm a real drug. This is high-end stuff. This is high-end, yeah.
Let's see. The drugs were intercepted in international waters off the eastern Pacific Ocean, off the coast of Mexico, Central and South America, and the Caribbean Sea, including contraband seized and recovered during... Oh, see, it was eleven different stops. S.
Navy ships. They just had like the one day of, you know, we're going to check this out, and they popped eleven places? I know, it doesn't say there was a time. It's pretty fascinating.
Crews are offloading approximately 23,000 pounds of cocaine and 6,900 pounds of marijuana in Port Everglades, Florida. You know somebody took a brick. One of those police officers is like... Well, in an unrelated thing, I'm taking a small vacation.
I'm going to be here next week to the Port Everglades. Oh, nice. Yes. So you know a guy.
I didn't know, yeah. So that made the news here. Yes. You're excited about the drugs.
The drug bust. It was a lot of drugs. You feel good about it. Yes.
Because now the prices will go up, we can make more money. All right, we're at 25 minutes, we're going to take a break, then we'll be right back. Hey, it's Mike Tu. Want to be part of the show?

He is number one in the world. He's crushing it right now over there. He has a 60-foot snake. Super busy.
He has now, he has taken his Big Snake app game and he's put it on his dueling screens. That way he has a bigger landscape. Oh, he's going from one screen to the other screen. It's amazing.
Because the snake is so big, he needs two screens. I need a double screen. It's fantastic. So it chases people from one, crosses into the other.
He's looking intently at that screen. It's amazing. He's very busy. Super busy.
Jessam Krull's "Fuck the FDA" cigar debuts, Michael. Yeah. After quite a bit of teasing, the "Fuck the FDA" cigar is shipping to stores nationally. Yeah.
S. Food and Drug Administration against the cigar industry, is a 6x52 Toro that uses a Mexican San Andreas wrapper over an undisclosed binder and filler. Cheekily, the company says it's air-cured tobacco, the description that many companies are using when it comes to FDA-mandated tobacco ingredient disclosures. 99 per cigar and offered in a bundle of 10.
Those bundles are wrapped in a cover page of the regulations. Oh, that's a nice touch. You know, I gotta give it to Riste, Riste, I'm gonna fuck up his name. I don't know how you say his name.
You know, he's pretty creative when it comes to marketing. I did have one of his CBD cigars. I know. You're a big fan of his CBD stuff.
The first one hit me harder than the rest of them. I think it's-- Oh, you've become an immune to it. Apparently, yes. Let's see.
The initial release is limited to 499 bundles. What a weird, weird number. Oh, well, there's a reason for that number. Oh, what is it?
Keep going. I should say it. Which matches-- Oh, the number of pages in the main regulatory document is-- I should probably pre-read these stories, wouldn't you think? They have become shipping to five stores.
Okay, this is another list, Michael, you did not make, just so you know. No, but those shops are good. Rudy's is on there. Gold Leaf Cigar Lounge in Hobart, Indiana.
Omerta Cigar Company. Omerta. Everything's at Omerta. Everybody loves Omerta.
Rudy's Cigar Lounge. Stateline Cigar Lounge. My boy Lou. Yep.
Lou Liga. Tobacco Land in Munster, Indiana. He says the next month stores around the country will be able to be able to the cigar, oh, and hopes to ship the cigar at the International Council later this year. That's nice.
You know, the thing that's really kind of hurtful, and you know, I will say, let me tell you something. Is he getting a box? Is he going to get a box with "I hate to stay on the side"? The one big deal about PCA for me is how humbling of an experience it is.
Yes. " The event, not the organization. The trade show. Right.
You go into it and you're like, okay, I'm still a very, very small fish in this industry. And, you know, I was kind of robbed of that this year because of the whole COVID thing. Nobody's really slapped me down. Would you like me to slap you down?
No, I feel like I'm getting little drips and drabs of the slap down because, like, Skip posted a picture of the FDA box. So, you know, Skip got one. I want to try the cigar. Like, I want to see what it tastes like.
Skip also posted frog juice over the weekend. There you go. I even forgot about that one. Jeff Moutet Riverside said, I'm going to send you some.
Yeah, I'm going to hook you up. I mean, you could have just. I even offered to pay. You could have shipped it at the same time.
Right. Right? You could have just put it in the box, you know? Right.
And then. Everybody's smoking a Kraft 2020, too. Everybody's enjoying Kraft. At least got one or two.
Just living our, you know. I mean, just let me taste it. Right. What does it taste like?
Tastes like. The grand perfectos, Ronnie Hayes should get some grand perfectos. Oh, so you did get slapped down. Totally.
Across the board. Yeah, everybody. Just nobody. No love.
No love for the hustler. No love for the hustler. Wow. Well, we have a title name for this show.
No love for the hustler. No love for the hustler. And the audience is clearing his throat. Oh.
He's preparing to talk. He's gonna make some kind of brand announcement. I hope he has like a speech plan. That'd be nice.
I'm going to be back there when you're doing your podcast, I've got to be watching, I'm very busy, super busy, you guys take over that office for a whole hour, it's ridiculous, every week, every week, every week you're here, it's bullshit, like it's a thing, it's only been, it's only been three years now, I think you'd be used to it, you'd think, you'd think, he could make allowances to his busy schedule, we were downstairs for a while, it was nice, quiet, no, we didn't bother anybody, nobody bothered us, no, yeah, and then he tried to see, He didn't complain. We smoked in there. Yeah. Well, you can't smoke in there.
Okay, okay. Don't come down during the show. Yeah, yeah. Or for the day and a half after.
Yeah, we won't. We won't smoke. Not smoking in there. Scouts honor.
We won't smoke. Cross our heart. Yeah, it won't happen. Okay, let's see.
Weekiwachi, the city of Weekiwachi, ceased to be on Tuesday when Governor Ron DeSantis signed a bill to the municipality. And it's gone. And it's gone. Founded in 1966 to put the famous wiki-watchy mermaid attraction into the maps and roadsides, the city at last count had just 13 residents.
But in recent years, the city's coexistence with the state park caused friction. Questions arose to how the people running the city, which, I wonder if all 13 people were on the board that ran the city. Board meeting. Which was insolvent and provided no visible service to the small business community that paid taxes, could be the same people that ran important functions at the state park.
Oh, so everybody that owned Weekiwachi Park also ran the city. Collected tax money but did not give anything. It's like a monopoly. Yes.
The end of the city, though, will have no real effect on the Weekiwachi Spring State Park, which is largely idled by the coronavirus. Some upgrades are underway at the adjacent water park, Buccaneer Bay. Well, I'll tell you. Ooh, Buccaneer Bay.
Sounds like fun. You should get a pass there. Yeah. Have you been to Universal anymore?
No. Did they close back? No. No, I have not.
I did see a picture of everybody at Volcano Bay, like, nuts. Like, there were a fuck ton of people there. I was like, oh, okay, that wouldn't have made me too comfortable. I'd have been like, oh, no.
Back to back people. Oh, look at all the people touching each other. I got to slide in when there was nobody there. It was amazing, you know.
Well, we have an update to an earlier story. Yes? Yes. Tell me.
The Texas Cigar Festival and Smoking in the Carolinas are canceled for 2020. It's official. It's official. The 2020 edition of the two countries' most well-known and well-attended cigar events won't be happening due to the ongoing concerns about public health.
Safety admits the ongoing spread of the coronavirus on Friday. Cassidy Monte Cristo announced that both the Texas Cigar Festival and the Smokin' in the Carolinas are canceled this year. While the team has been hard at work preparing amazing festivals for you, we put the health and safety of our guests, associates, and community first, the retailer wrote. Given the information and guidance provided surrounding large gatherings, we have had to make difficult decisions to ensure the safety and well-being of our guests.
Texas Cigar Festival had already been delayed once, having to reschedule from April to August, so now the August dates are clear, if everybody had their schedule based on our other information. Cigar Fest 2020 and A Big Smoke meets Whiskey Fest both... So August is gone. August is now opening up, because also the one in Europe canceled, don't you?
Oh, I see what you're saying. So that event's canceled. Yes, August is completely open now as far as cigar events, I believe. Great.
Both major consumer cigar events have been forced to reschedule as well. Ticket holders for both events will receive a full refund through Eventbrite. Oh, that's so thoughtful. You can get your money back.
You can get your money back if you were going to go. Yay! All right, moving on. Four manufacturers create the Traveling Roadshow.
Have you heard about this? No. Oh, this is hot off the press. It just happened this weekend.
The Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic has once again shown the – this is from Coop – Premium cigar industry's resilience despite disruptions to the usual business, stay-at-home orders, and quarantines have affected the industry's ability to interact with cigar lovers in person. So almost the entire industry turned to social media platforms to host interactive live events. The pandemic has forced the cancellations of the Premium Cigar Association trade show and other similar events such as Enter Tabac, which we just mentioned is canceled. Let's see, the TAA is canceled, let's see, it's over at the new industry, and yet another burst of creativity to overcome the challenge of the Corona for premium cigar manufacturers.
Do you want to guess what the four are? Is it the four that pulled out of PCA? No. Okay.
No, I believe all of them were still going. Yes, all of them were going. Okay. You don't want to guess?
So they've got to be smaller brands. The boutique-y? A mix, actually. I would say a mix.
I would say a mix, yes. Tatuaje? No. Crown Heads?
Yes. That's one, there's three others. Ace Prime? No.
How do you do, Crown Heads doesn't do with Ace Prime? That doesn't make sense. Well, they don't list their sub-brands, I would imagine. It's okay, so Crown Heads.
Rocky Patel Premium Cigars. Oh my god, I got the one, you need to let me get there. You were dragging on, the show's only so long. Oliva Cigar Company and Alec Bradley Cigar Company and Crown Heads are bandied together They come together to take their new products on the road to present retailers in 15 cities.
On the road again? It's not really a road show. I was a little confused by that title. Beginning July 13th...
Is there an antique road show? Yeah. Is that still happening? No, that's not going on either.
They canceled that? You know, that's how I know that. That's how you know it's real. It's real chaos.
It's real. On July 13th in Naples, Florida, and concluding in Stamford, Connecticut. Now, see, when you read that, you would think it's just like one RV going to all these different cities. Right.
That's not it. It is 15 different operations set up in 15 different places. On July 24th, the Traveling Roadshow will allow local retailers an opportunity to see new products, talk to company representatives, and restock their stores with each of the individual companies and products. The events will be limited on a first-come, first-served basis due to the corona restrictions, It will offer free food, drinks, and product discounts.
Consumers will not be allowed to attend these events, and retailers do not need to be a member of the PCA to make an appointment to attend. Oh. Like in Florida, the only one in Florida is in Naples. It sounds like a complete disaster.
I'm not going to lie. It does, but I'll read the schedule to you, and you'll understand why I was confused on if it was one large thing. Let's see, the Traveling Roadshow event will be appointments only, and companies will begin to accept appointments on June 19th, which is Friday. Some of the new products planned to display in the Traveling Roadshow will be available at the events.
Okay, here's the schedule. July 13th and 14th, they're in Naples. Now, also on the 14th, they're in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Ah.
So, they could not drive from Naples to Pittsburgh and set up, I feel, for an entire new show. I feel like Rocky Patel has the ability to create a teleportation device. Oh, you think he does? And it's going to be released in his new cigar.
Oh, he's a very smart man, too. So, July 15th, Kansas City, Missouri. So then they would have to go from Pittsburgh to Kansas City, Missouri. That's amazing.
Right. And then... Maybe it's like a flying Winnebago, like the one in baseballs. Oh.
Maybe. Yeah, you really got to think these things through, Mike. I bet you that's what's going on. Is there a giant guy in a dog suit?
Yeah, of course. And his name is Barf? Barf. Barf.
Thank you. July 15th, 16th... Lone Star. Atlanta, Georgia.
July 15th and 16th, also in Chicago, Illinois, so two of them in the same day, in two different places. Let's see, then 16th also, oh three, Charlotte, North Carolina, and then on to Indianapolis, Indiana, Glendale, Arizona, Boston, Massachusetts, Dallas, Texas, Houston, Texas, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and it concludes July 23rd and 24th in Stamford, Connecticut. Buy a box, get a NE5 free or some shit? You get the teleportation device.
Ooh, there you go. That's what I'm talking about. All right. Let's see.
Crown head schedules lost. As if the airlines aren't suffering enough. Now you've gone and developed this teleportation device. Well, it's Rocky Vatel.
It's true. What else would he have? No doubt. I understand it also cooks a really mean steak, too.
Ooh. Yes. Listen. He's known for his cooking talents.
Is it medium rare or what? If it's overcooked. It depends on how far you want to teleport. You hold the steak while you teleport.
Ah, so if you go to Cali. From Florida to Cali? Well done. Well done.
Yeah. Atlanta? Can't happen. Medium.
If you go from Naples to Jacksonville, rare maybe? Oh, slightly cooked. Slightly cooked, yes. Just gently seared on both sides.
Yes. Fantastic. Cut the horns off, slap it on the ass, and put it on the grill. What the hell are we talking about?
I don't know. It's about nothing. That's what the whole show is. The whole show is about nothing.
It's like Seinfeld. We're the Seinfeld of the podcast industry. We are. It's a cigar podcast.
Cigar podcast. Yeah. So. Yes.
Coop did like this post about checking his microwave ventilation with his cigarette. Okay, I'm glad you brought that up. Yes, yes. I didn't watch the whole video, but I do have a question, but go ahead.
Okay, so first of all, I can't believe you started to watch the video. I did. Like, that's amazing. Well, I'll tell you why I started to watch it, so you go ahead.
Because the minute... Did you watch the video? " I'm like, I am not going to watch this fucking thing go down never in a million years. I mean, I don't want to see, like, I understand the logic of what he's trying to do.
I'm like, I'm not wasting the money. Oh, because I... And you did. Well, I just started it, but I saw him light the cigar and stick it in the microwave.
I'm like, okay, I don't know where this is going. He's stuck it in the microwave? Yeah, he's stuck it in the microwave. I think the whole thing was he was going to shut the door and show that the smoke did or did not come out.
Ah, okay. Okay, but why is the, why is, is who his wife is or what his wife looks like, why is that a secret? I have no idea. So you didn't read all, you didn't read the entire post?
No, I did, no, I would not, I refuse. The identity of his wife is evidently a industry secret. It's a mystery. It's a mystery.
Because she was there like this, holding something over her face. She was in the shot. That's why I started, I was like, oh, maybe she'll just take that down. No, she holds this cutting board or box or something, so where you can't, all you can see is her hand.
That is amazing. And he commented in the post that the identity of his wife is still to remain an industry secret. Wow. Yes.
I feel we need to somehow reach out to his wife and get her on the show. Coop, don't be ashamed, man, you married her. Oh! You should be proud.
I'm sure she's a very lovely, attractive woman. I bet you she is. That's what I'm saying. Don't hold back.
Wow. Don't hold back. You're attacking the man's wife? I'm not attacking his wife!
I'm saying that, you know, she deserves her moment in the spotlight, is all I'm saying. Oh. Yes, I think she does too. Right?
Maybe she's in some other industry that contradicts, maybe she's part of that smoke-free Florida thing. Maybe she works for the FDA. Maybe she works for the FDA. Maybe she works for the FDA.
That's how it gets all the information. It's a big conspiracy. I'm going to start spreading that rumor around. His wife works for the FDA.
I heard that she was, uh, she's part of the government. Oh, it could be. That's where he gets it. That's why he's like, you know what, I bet you I could report on some of the stuff that you talk about.
Maybe she's that secret part of the government that doesn't even have a name. He's like, check out this file. I'm like, oh, thank you. Thank you, honey.
I'm gonna videotape the microwave. Oh, you can't show me. Don't put my face up. He gets the information, then halfway releases it before him.
That'd be so funny. He did have several questions about the road show thing, and apparently they answered his questions. Oh, that's nice. Yes.
Good for them. All right. Moving on. Did he ask about the teleportation device?
No. No, that was not his question. No. Since I already had the story, I did not read his full second story.
Okay. All right. Crown Heads is scheduled Las Calaveras 2020 for the July. Yes.
After teasing them in April, Crown Heads has released the details of the four cigars that will be in the Las Calaveras Edition Limitada 2020, which is slated for a July release. 95, boxed at $24. 95, the 6x56, and a 6 and an 8th, kind of odd, by $52. Okay.
95. The samplers were all gone. I totally botched my order. This is the 7th release of the Las Calaveras line, which debuted in 2014 as a tribute to those who are Those who have died in the previous year, ooh, that's a little depressing, with the intentions to be a celebration of life and memories made as opposed to a mournful symbol of sadness and death, oh, well, that's good, according to the company, each year, the bans of the cigars feature the initials of four individuals who passed away since the prior release, is it four people that worked for them, or just four people?
Quite the emotional swing you took there, I don't know. I didn't, I probably read these stories beforehand, probably make more sense. Has it been the case for some time, there will be- It wouldn't be as good. That's true.
Three, I like getting the raw, actual- The true emotion. Yes, the true emotion. Yeah, don't hold it. Total is released in the line stand for 24-count boxes and one size of torpedo sold only in 4-count sampler that includes one of each cigar.
One notable change for 2020 is that the production is being scaled down to just 1,000 boxes of each size down from 1,700 boxes of each size. Well, no, not half, it's 700. It's damn near half. Half of 17 would be eight and a half.
Yeah. So it's at 1,000. So it's almost half. Not really half.
There's also just 500 samples produced down from 2,500 in 2019, so no samples. Now he's texting on his phone. No samples. He's angry texting.
Angry texting. He's probably one of us. Don't text my phone, it's hooked into the camera. Let's see, the blend uses an Ecuadorian Habano.
He's one of those guys that likes to talk to text. Oh, I know he does. Oh, it's driving him crazy. So because he's texting, because he has to be quiet, I'm sure it really fucking aggravates him.
Oh, you won't be able to read it because the misspellings will be terrible. Might as well be in fucking Mandarin. Let's see, where are we at? I can't look at the body.
It has been the case previously this year, Las Calaveras will be produced at My Father's Cigar SA in Esteli, Nicaragua. Very exciting. Can't wait. Okay, this is Wes, right?
Yeah. Okay. The Hot Ticket Guys did a review of the cigar on this week's show, pre-release review. And here we are again.
Here we are again, nothing. Nothing. Nothing. What's just not acknowledged.
So, I think your friendship has limits here with Mr. West. Damn. I'm very upset.
I got the hat, though. He sent me the white hat. I'd rather have the cigar. We could have done that on the Patreon this week.
I'm gonna text him right now. Should we call him? Let's call him. Okay, let's call him.
Okay, let's call him. Okay, let's call. Let's call West. Okay, cuz we need to stretch a little time here so Pedro doesn't complain.
Gotta keep Pedro happy. Gotta keep Pedro happy. Because, uh, after this we have a couple of listeners of the week and then, uh, the That's it, that's all I got. We're at 42 minutes.
I want to talk about the STFU sampler too. Oh, yes. I don't know how the Hot Brothers got it. I haven't listened to their show yet.
What's up, dog? What's up? Hey, you're on the podcast right now. Hello, Wes.
We use your handle every day. How are you? I'm doing well. I'm making my lunch right now.
That's amazing. Oh, what are you having? I'm having some ground beef and some shredded cheese because, you know, I'm back on my keto thing. Oh, leaning up.
Okay, I like it. But you're a skinny guy already. Yeah, but he's skinny anyway. He likes to look fit.
Is your dad still doing well? He was in surgery last time you were here. He is doing well, yeah. Good.
That's all good. All right, well, we want to get down to the nitty-gritty here, the brass tacks of this. The reason we called. So, I heard that you gave a...
Well, no, no, I don't know they came from him. I don't know who they know. It's gotta be Wes. Okay, go ahead then.
Wes, do you know the podcast, the Hot Ticket Podcast? Yeah, I'm familiar with it, yeah. I heard that they got to try the Las Calaveras pre-release before anybody else. Is that true?
It could be. John did that show. I've seen a few folks actually have tried that cigar, and I'm not sure if I've tried that cigar. Oh, so you haven't tried it?
it i think i'm i may have had it if i did it was probably two or three months ago but i didn't know that's what i was trying john sometimes will just give me something to smoke and ask for an opinion but not tell me what it is i think i've had it okay but i didn't know that was it see so you can't shit on west because of this because he yeah because he probably hasn't had one either i did not give the hot ticket podcast a pre-release sample of los calaveras okay all right okay you're You're off the hook. We'll let you go on that because, I mean, you know, you're so thoughtful, I said we got the hat. Yeah, you just send all these gifts for Michael all the time. These lovely notes.
I sent you the door, the door handle. The door handle? The door handle? I use it every day and I think of you.
Good. Every time you tug on it, great. But man. And last week we had those other cigars that he sent you.
Yeah, yeah, the... Pichardo's, yeah. Thank you. Yeah, yes, Pichardo's.
Yes, the Star Trek's. I don't know why we do this podcast. There's literally tens of people. Tens of people.
Tens. Maybe 12 on a good day. At least five or six solid people. Good.
So, yeah. Okay. So, there you go. We were just talking about how nobody loves us.
Nobody gives us cigars. There's been several cigars that have come out lately, and nobody has sent any. Nobody says, "Hey, you know what? " Right.
When I see one, I'll shoot 'em your way, but I've yet to stash 'em. Oh, come on. They come out in July, apparently. And I totally botched the order.
" But we made it work. I got a couple comments. He needs to contact Chet and I, so we badger you inseparably until you buy them. That's true.
That's true. You guys berating me definitely helps. Yes. Yeah, so when we were, we did a Zoom call, and we do one every day for Crown Heads and all the guys that are on there, they, you know, it kind of took a poll of how long everybody thought it would take us to sell that project out.
Most everybody guessed about two months because of, you know, current situation and all the crap going on. And I said six days and everybody kind of laughed at me. And we ended up selling it out in about 30 hours. I would have said, told all of them, you're all fired.
Except Wes. Right. You know, really undermining the company. Wow.
That's right. You know? That's right. It's fucked up.
All right, well... What was that going to do for you? That was it, we wanted to complain. Yeah, I just wanted to give you a hard time, and you being as sweet as you are, you made it impossible for us.
That's right. I really hope you enjoy your lunch. What's that? I said I'm not guilty.
Do you need John Hever's cell number? Is there a cell number? You want to call him? Nah, he doesn't know who I am.
Okay. You're probably right. I don't exist in his world. That's a fair analogy.
Maybe that's your Greg's texting. " He's still angry texting. What the hell? He's writing a story over there.
Yeah, no, that was all I have. Okay, well, thanks for calling. Sure, get back to your lunch and do your lunch. Hey, thanks for answering when I call.
I appreciate you. I'm not helping all the time either anymore. You're a good guy. You too.
I'll talk to you later. All right. Bye-bye. He needed to go eat.
A keto thing, you gotta eat. Yeah, you don't have the carbs. You wanna, you know, you gotta get that in. You gotta get the food in.
The melted cheese. All right. All right, so we have sort of two listeners of the week. I'm moving the phone away from here.
All right, listener of the week this week. C. Newman and Fuente. Hey!
C. Newman non, including in the comments last week. We were reading about the different factory updates and everything. Oh!
Ooh, he chastised you. C. Newman and we just went, nah, we're not talking about them. They're a American company.
So I apologize to John. He goes, "I listen every week. " So, thank you. John's a good guy.
Thank you, John. If he called John, he'd answer, too. Yes, he would. Yes, he would.
He's been on the show. He's a good egg. We also have a special shout out to Andrew McCreary and his family. Ah.
All our prayers with him and his family. I have a little bit of a health issue going on in his family, but there was some good news over the weekend. I saw that. So we'll give him a gong also.
We appreciate you listening every week, Andrew. Yes. All right, that's it. That's all I got.
What about the STF? Did we talk about that or no? We got 12 minutes. Go ahead.
I'm very excited about this. And then there's going to be a third segment, which is only going to be available on YouTube. That you want to go to YouTube and watch, trust me, you want to go to YouTube and see this. Oh my god.
Go ahead with the-- I have no idea what I'm in store for. No, you have no idea. So you go ahead. Is there going to be more tweets from people?
Somebody actually reached out to me and said, hey, I'm in-- oh, my buddy Luis said, hey, I'm in Austin, can I-- should I send you, you or Mike, a derogatory tweet? Well, Greg came to me and thought that section was-- he thought those were real tweets. Yeah, he's like, I can't believe-- Can't believe these people said mean things. He always said mean things.
" Yeah, messed up. So yeah, the STFU sample is just dropping. So the Sober Mesa Brulee. Well, the sales.
I think he announced today they're not coming out until the fall, I believe, or something? Yeah, something like that. Yeah, yeah. So he's putting five cigars in a box.
Yes, he's going to announce, I believe, Friday on the list. So that will be a list we are on, though, right? Yeah, we're on that list. Oh, thank God.
Finally, we're on some list. There's some respect in this industry. Steve Saga likes us. Steve Saga, that's right.
So, yeah, I'm excited about it because, you know, some of them are allegedly double sweet-tipped, some of them are sweet-tipped. Yes, you don't know until you smoke them. None of them are labeled. So you have like a regular, what, there's five?
Yeah, there's five total. So I think you have two regulars and three versions of different sweetnesses of the tips. Oh, but one is so bad, you just, birthday cake bang, bad. Like diabetes?
Yes. And number five tastes like diabetes. Right. I can't even smoke it.
Number five has calories. Also, was that it? No, so yeah, I mean, you know, I'm really looking forward to that because you don't know what the hell he's doing. Like, he's, it could go either way.
He could really, he could fuck with you and maybe there's none of them. None of them. Yeah. Oh, wouldn't that be great?
Wouldn't that be a big fuck either? Oh, yeah. Guess what? I just got your $60 in.
All that would do is just further prove his point. I don't know. You know, with the whole double, the whole non-sugar-tip. Yeah, nothing, nothing, yeah, nothing, or they're all sugar-tipped or something.
Right. Tell me which ones were, which ones weren't. Well, they all taste the same. That's right, fuckers, and I got you $60.
You know what would be awesome is if you open it up and it was a glitter bomb. And it didn't have, and it didn't have anything. Nothing. " That's right.
I'm opening mine here, just so you know, just in case. So yeah, so we started the pre-sales and I think we almost sold them all already. I got my one, Chad got his two. Oh, you already, oh, I should reduce the quality.
You should take three off the top. I'll take the hold down. Yeah. Check those.
Let's see, the 26th of this month, we have the Espinosa Cornhole event. There was some trash talking going on this weekend on Facebook. I don't know if you saw that, about who could win and who didn't. I missed it.
Oh, yes. Well, Erik Espinosa chimed in and said he is bringing his A game. Ooh, I really like to think that Erik carries his own beanbags. Oh, big E's on?
No, bro, I bring my own. Then we'll have to check them for weight against the other. Yes. Just in case.
This Patreon, we're going to be reviewing the new Aladino Cameroon, which is exciting. That's exciting. That's here next after this third segment. " I don't know, because I already had plans on reviewing it on the Patreon, so I was like, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm.
I like it. Maybe, I don't know. Maybe not. You'll have to speak to me later.
Right. No, they have to, what, pay the ten dollars. That's true. Or, you can hang out at my house on Friday night with a lot of tequila, I'll tell you.
With Drew. With Drew. And Kayla. And not me.
And not Mike. And possibly Adam Lipidolder. My friend. Yes.
Who comes over from... Oh, man, I love the fact that he trolls you, bro. Sunday Brunch. He likes the Sunday Brunch job.
