Tatuaje is Pete Johnson's flagship brand, blended with Jose 'Pepin' Garcia and rolled by the Garcia family in Esteli, Nicaragua. Launched in 2006, the Havana VI line - widely known as the Red Label - was Tatuaje's first cigar produced in Nicaragua, and the first letters of its original six vitolas spell out HAVANA, the name of Johnson's dog. It was conceived as a more approachable, medium-bodied counterpart to the original Brown Label.
Nicaraguan binder and Nicaraguan long-filler tobaccos are rolled in the classic Cuban manner and finished with a Cuban-style triple cap. The Almirantes is the line's Churchill format, measuring 7 x 47. Box count: 24 cigars.
The Almirantes opens with spicy cedar, white pepper and dry oak carried by a satisfying sweet creaminess, with cocoa and sweet hay on the cold draw. Bread-like overtones and a subtle sweetness on the finish lend the smoke a gingerbread quality. Coffee, nut and earth tones round out a spicy but balanced profile.
Pairs well with cold brew or dessert coffee, a milk stout, or a glass of sweet vermouth.
The Almirantes is a well rounded all day cigar.
