Charter Oak is Foundation Cigar Company's value-priced line from Nicholas Melillo, named for the historic 600-year-old Charter Oak tree central to Connecticut's legacy of independence and industry. The Broadleaf edition pays tribute to Melillo's grandfather, who smoked exclusively Connecticut Broadleaf cigars while earning a modest salary at the Winchester Repeating Arms factory after WWII. Blended by Melillo and hand-rolled in Nicaragua, it delivers Foundation's old-school character at an everyday price.
A dark, oily Connecticut Broadleaf Maduro wrapper over a Nicaraguan Habano binder and all-Nicaraguan long fillers, built in the Toro (6×52) format. Hand-rolled in Nicaragua with a closed (uncut) foot. Box count: 20 cigars.
Rich earth and a natural Broadleaf sweetness lead the way, backed by dark cocoa and nuts. The middle builds toward a dominant coffee/espresso note, with leather and subtle spice on the retrohale carrying through a long finish.
The layered, rich profile of Charter Oak pairs beautifully with coffee, whiskey, or rum.
