Tabak Especial is Drew Estate's coffee-infused brandmark, and it traces its roots to the Kahlua Cigars Delicioso collaboration of the early 2000s; when Kahlua moved away from the brand in 2008 after a change of ownership, Drew Estate re-tooled the project and released it under the Tabak Especial name. The company spent more than five years perfecting the nuances it had learned making the Kahlua and Java blends, and has celebrated the pairing of coffee and hand-rolled cigars since 2002 under the slogan "the perfect cigar for your daily grind." Dulce is the lighter, Connecticut-wrapped half of the range — a cafe con leche counterpart to the darker, maduro-wrapped Negra.
A smooth Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper over a Sumatran binder and rich Nicaraguan long-filler leaves, slowly infused with estate-grown Nicaraguan coffee before aging. Handmade at La Gran Fabrica Drew Estate in Esteli, Nicaragua, and finished with the line's signature shaggy foot, which lets the filler and binder tobaccos be tasted separately from the wrapper. Robusto format, 5 x 54. Box count: 24 cigars.
Luscious and luxurious, with sweet notes of coffee, cream and milk chocolate over a mellow, creamy body. Drew Estate describes the Dulce profile as cafe con leche inspired, and the sweetened tip and shaggy foot put that sweetness front and center from the first draw.
Alcoholic: Rum and Coke or coffee liqueur. Non-Alcoholic: Sweet coffee.
