Tabak Especial traces its roots to the early 2000s, when Drew Estate partnered with Kahlua on a groundbreaking coffee infusion known as Kahlua Cigars Delicioso; when Kahlua stepped away from the brand in 2008, Drew Estate re-tooled it and relaunched it under the Tabak Especial name. Drew Estate says the blend took more than five years to perfect, building on everything the company learned making Kahlua and Java, and the house still calls it "the perfect cigar for your daily grind." The line runs in two expressions — the Connecticut-wrapped Dulce and the maduro-wrapped Negra — with Dulce the mellower, cafe-con-leche side of the pair.
A smooth Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper over a Sumatran binder and rich Nicaraguan long-filler leaves, with the tobaccos slowly infused with estate-grown Nicaraguan coffee from the Jinotega and Matagalpa regions. Handmade at Drew Estate in Esteli, Nicaragua. Toro format, 6 x 52.
Luscious and creamy, built on a cafe-con-leche mix of coffee and cream with sweet notes of milk chocolate. The silky Connecticut wrapper keeps the smoke soft and buttery, so the espresso sweetness complements the tobacco rather than burying it. Smooth from light to finish, and at 6 x 52 an unhurried one.
Alcoholic: Rum and Coke or coffee liqueur. Non-Alcoholic: Sweet coffee.
Afternoon — the most popular Tabak Dulce vitola.
