Powstanie was founded by brothers Mike and Gregg Szczepankiewicz after major retailers began suppressing manufacturer inventory access to independent shops. Powstanie is Polish for 'uprising' — a name chosen to reflect the brand's mission of putting independent retailers first. The cigars are produced at Nica Sueño in Estelí, Nicaragua.

The Powstanie Connecticut Belicoso features an Ecuadorean Connecticut shade wrapper — a leaf prized for its silky texture, golden-tan complexion, and naturally mild-to-medium character. The belicoso vitola measures 5½ inches with a 54 ring gauge, offering a substantial smoke in a tapered figurado format.
